Obituary for Gonzales

Rudy R. Gonzales, passed away on Saturday August 4, 2001. He was born in Colonias, N.M. on January 21, 1932. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served two years in Korea where he had the distinction of reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant in under two years, then a record. Upon his discharge, he and his parents, Leonard and Mela M. Gonzales purchased and managed Dee's Bar in Santa Rosa for five years. He then attended the University of New Mexico for 2 years after which he transferred to New Mexico Highlands where he received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1961 followed by a masters degree from the American Institute for foreign trade, Phoenix, Arizona. His employment as International Sale Manager with Emerson Electric gave him the opportunity of traveling to many foreign countries, from the Middle East, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Europe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonardo and Mela Gonzales; two sisters, Pita (Rita) Urban of Artesia, N.M. and Angie Dunn of Indiana; two brothers, Anthony Gonzales of Las Cruces, N.M. and Johnny Gonzales of Santa Rosa, N.M.; 3 nephews, Steven, Ernest, and Gene Gonzales; and a niece, Ida Aguilar. He is survived by two brothers, Leonard Gonzales of Santa Rosa, and Gene Gonzales of Espanola. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August, 8 2001 at 12:30 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:00 p.m. The family of Rudy Gonzales has entrusted his arrangements to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
