OVERTON -- Helen Thomas Overton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, died peacefully at The Montebello on Friday, April 11, 2008. She celebrated her 99th birthday March 26, 2008, among several family members and friends. A resident of Albuquerque since 1947, Helen was an active member of The Tuesday Literary Club, a docent at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and served as President of the YWCA Board. She was a lifetime student of art, music, history and literature who traveled extensively. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Lewis M. Overton. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Covalt, Lewis M. Overton, Jr. and wife, Priscilla Franklin, and Mary Pashyo; grandchildren, Cale Carson III, David Carson, Jane Cooley, Mary Matteucci, Thomas Overton, Anne Merkert, Cyrena Schroeder, Rasila Lester, Rebecca Covalt, Kathleen Covalt, and Martin Covalt; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Helen was a member of First Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will be held at a later date. GOODGION -- Janice Goodgion, 69, resident of Albuquerque since 1965, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 49 1/2 years, Overton "Odie" Goodgion; daughters, Robbie Schamp and husband, Greg of Scottsdale, AZ, Suzie Goodgion of Albuquerque, Debbie Chavez of Albuquerque; son, Eddie Goodgion of Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Mary Brumbaugh and husband, Dick, of Glendora, CA, Maxine Nolte and husband, Ronnie, of Wilson, TX, Paula Parson and partner, Debbie Miller, of St. Louis, MO, Terrie Bennett and partner, Renae Phillips, of Lubbock, TX; grandsons, Nick, Alex, Josh and Aaron Chavez; and several other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Eunice Ayers; and brother, Robert J. Ayers. Janice was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Twosom Sunday School Class in Albuquerque. She worked as a Christian Educator at various churches in Albuquerque until retirement. She was very active in the Fellowship of Christian Educators in New Mexico. Janice loved to garden, travel and care for her grandsons. The family would like to thank all the friends who have shown support through cards and prayers over the past four years of her battle with breast cancer. LUND -- Ralph E. Lund, 87 a longtime Fort Sumner, NM resident died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Ralph was born April 4, 1920 in Laconia, NH to the home of John Edward Lund and the former Katherine McCrea. He was reared at Laconia where he attended Laconia High School. He later attended Laconia Business School. Ralph was a World War II veteran he served in the Aleutian-Alaska area until he was reassigned to the Army Air Corps at the Fort Sumner Air Base. Ralph, a staff sergeant was assigned to the Finance Office. While at the Air Base he met Lorna Chick a civilian employee in the Finance Office. They were married January 12, 1946 in Albuquerque. Following their marriage they returned to Laconia, NH where Ralph was employed with the Scott & Williams accounting firm. Ralph and Lorna made their home in Fort Sumner in 1953. Ralph ranched with his father-in-law E.H. Chick at Taiban, NM. He later worked as a bookkeeper for City Gas & Electric Co. In 1956 Ralph was hired at the Citizens Bank where he was later named Senior Vice President and Manager of the Fort Sumner Agency of Citizens Bank. Ralph also continued to ranch south of Fort Sumner for several years. He retired from Citizens Bank in 1985. Ralph was active in the Fort Sumner business community; he was a past member of the Lions Club, Fort Sumner Rotary Club, a league bowler, past city council member, a longtime member of NM Cattle Growers Assn. and an "Alligator Golfer". His pastimes included golfing at the Salt Cedar Country Club in Fort Sumner, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, music, fishing and sports especially March Madness. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Lund. He will be missed by his wife, Lorna Lund of the family home in Fort Sumner; two daughters, Linda Manchester and husband, Richard of Boulder, CO; and Marilee Koontz and husband, Jim of Fort Sumner; one sister, Rita Freeman of Laconia, NH; four grandsons, Clay Koontz, Justin Koontz, Alexander (Aldy) Manchester, and Rex Manchester. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 from First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Keith Niehaus officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Clay Koontz, Justin Koontz, Alexander (Aldy) Manchester, Rex Manchester, Bob West, Billy Wilton, Eddie Spitz and Powhatan Carter. Honorary bearers will include Carl Vick, Don Wahe, Jim Payne, Neal Vaughn, Bill Sykes, Jim Walling, Kildee Herring, Donald Franks, Charlie Overton, and all his many friends. THOMPSON -- Betty J. Thompson, 84, passed away August 17, 2007. She was born April 17, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas to the late Henry and Stacy (Jolliff) Stevens. Betty's husband, Harry J. Thompson, died in 2000. Betty was pre-deceased by her brothers Max Stevens, Stanley Stevens and Charles Stevens, and her sister Nellie Parrish. Betty lived in Albuquerque for the majority of her life, but she has resided in Denver, Colorado since 2002 to be closer to her son. She is survived by her son, Jerrold Thompson of Centennial, Colorado, his wife Helen (Overton) Thompson, and their children Stacey Mitchell of Aurora, Colorado, her husband Eric Mitchell, and Scott Thompson of Puebla, Mexico, and his wife, Maru, and her great granddaughter, Addison Mitchell. Betty was a member of the Northdale Baptist Church when she lived in Albuquerque. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Chapel at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 3113 Carlisle NE. The Reverends Michael Hay and G.R. Patrick will officiate at the private graveside Services on Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park.

OVERSON -- Ila O'Donnal Overson, 87, a three year resident of Las Vegas, NV, passed away at her home on Monday, June 11, 2007. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Overson; infant daughter, Lila; and son, Ronald Ray Overson. Ila is survived by her sons, Michael Overson of Overton, NV, Dwane Overson, Frank Overson and wife, Donna of Moriarty, NM; daughter-in-law, Sharon Overson of Albuquerque and her daughter, Carolyn Yoss and husband, Charles, of Las Vegas, NV; four brothers, Valden O'Donnal of Nephi, UT, John Forres O'Donnal of Washington, UT, Marvin O'Donnal of Fruitland, NM, and Wendell O'Donnal of Reno, NV. Ila was also the proud "Nana" of 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was born on July 2, 1919 in Bluewater, NM to John Christopher Franklin O'Donnal and Sarah Ann Cluff. Ila was the eighth child of 14 children. She was raised in the Colonies in Chihuahua, Mexico and graduated from the Juarez Stake Academy in 1938. Ila loved to sing in solos, duets, and trios. She took many a leading part in three act plays and operettas in her young adult life. Ila was Queen of the Gold & Green Ball in Farmington, NM. At this time she met Ray E. Overson and they were married on April 18, 1940 in the Mesa, AZ LDS Temple. Ray and Ila moved to Albuquerque, NM upon Ray's honorable discharge from the US Navy after WWII. Ila was a resident of New Mexico for 58 years prior to moving to Las Vegas, NV. Ila's greatest joy in life was loving and serving her family. In her life she served as Relief Society President, Primary President and Chorister. Ila received her 20 year Primary pin. She was a teacher in various organizations in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ila loved genealogy and served in the Name Extraction Program working specifically with names from Mexico. She was proud to have won First Prize for her Cinnamon Bread and Plum Jam in the New Mexico State Fair at the age of 82. Ila will always be remembered and admired for her gentle, loving ways, beautiful voice and infectious smile. Her love for others and her compassion and care for those in need was exemplary. Ila's untiring service to family and friends will always be remembered. She led a faithful life devoted to the Lord. Services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2007, 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sage Ward Chapel, 8130 Sage Road, SW.
