ABRAMS -- Frances Abrams, 69, passed away April 13, 2008. She was born on January 03, 1939, in Bayonne, New Jersey, to Giovanni and Frances (Sinatra) Pona. Frances was a resident of Albuquerque, NM, for 10 years; where she enjoyed going to casinos, TV mysteries, fine dining, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandkids. She is preceded in death by the love of her life of 49 years, George E. Abrams, who passed away on December 01, 2007. BONADONNA -- Joseph C. Bonadonna, 90, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 27 years, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008. Joseph was born September 2, 1917 the son of Guy and Grace Baio Bonadonna in Sicily. He was a member of the Italian American Club of Rio Rancho. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and fixing things. He also enjoyed playing cards. Joseph was the anchor for his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas in 2005. Joseph is survived by his wife of 69 years, Agnes Bonadonna of Rio Rancho; two daughters, Cookie Bonadonna of Rio Rancho, and Beatrice O'Malley and husband John of Mastic, NY; eleven grandchildren; eleven great -grandchildren; and one sister, Camella Cannata of Staten Island, NY. BORLING -- Edward Gustaf Borling, age 102, died April 12, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. Born on October 30, 1905, at the family home on Chicago's south side (7700 Drexel), Ed attended Hyde Park High School and the University of Illinois, graduating in 1928 with a BS in General Business. He did graduate work at Northwestern University in sales, finance, and business administration. He was a Lieutenant in the Cavalry Reserve. Ed worked as an accountant for Federal Electric and W.C. Ritchie and Co. He transferred into sales in the 1950's. When Stone Container, later Smurfit Stone, purchased Ritchie, Ed was a top salesperson in the company and remained with Stone until retirement at age 65. Ed married Vivian C. Strietelmeier in 1934. He and Vivian (deceased 1989) were very active in school and church affairs. Ed served as a Deacon and Treasurer of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church for 16 years. He was a long time member of the South Side Swedish Club and served as President 1961-1962. Ed also enjoyed the summer home he helped build in 1927 in Sister Lakes, Michigan visiting there with family almost every summer including 2007. Ed and Vivian moved to Albuquerque in 1983. They lived at The Meadows Mobile Home Park and Ed most recently at Andrew House. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and loved to worship there and fellowship with the members. Ed is survived by his daughter, Betty Begeal and husband, Dave, of Albuquerque, NM; son, Major General, USAF (Ret) John Borling and wife, Myrna, of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren, Lauren Sperry and husband, Kirk, Megan Durczak and husband, Jim, Kathryn Begeal and husband, Garrick Delzell, and Carlton Begeal and wife, Cindy Trujillo; and one great-grandchild, Kirstyn Sperry. BURTON -- Charles Edward Burton, 83, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008. COBB -- Donell Cobb Sr., 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 51 years, passed away on April 10, 2008. Mr. Cobb was born on October 25, 1931 to George and Daisy Cobb. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and belonged to Morning Missionary Star Baptist Church. Mr. Cobb is preceded in death by is father and mother and four brothers. DAVIS -- Col. Andrew S. Davis, USAF (ret) passed away November 3, 2007 as a result of complications due to an automobile accident. He was born in Detroit, MI, February 27, 1920, the third of four children to Sarah and Andrew Davis. He graduated from high school at age 15. Andy was a very industrious fellow and helped support his family in a variety of ways. He was rural route salesman for Green's Cleaners visiting nine towns a week. He trapped muskrats and sold the furs to a local furrier. He worked in the family landscaping business and also at General Motors as a dynamometer mechanic. In addition, he sold his mother's homemade candies to the local businesses. He attended Wayne State University and in 1942, Andy enlisted in the US Air Force pilot program. He was a Command Pilot with over 10,000 hours of military flying time. One retired, Andy attended UNM and Anderson School of Business where he obtained a master's degree in Business Administration. He was a real estate broker from 1970 to his retirement in 2006. Always interested in new experiences, Andy traveled extensively during his air force career and after retirement. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman with a great passion for fishing, hunting and golf. He was an active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, where he served as usher. Andy was a member of the Masonic Order, Shrine, and Retired Officer's Association. He was a devoted member of his daily coffee club. Andy married Kathleen Ruth Blackwell in 1941 and had two children. He married again to Merry Vargo Carraway in 1970 and this loving union lasted until her death in 1991. Andy is survived by his younger brother, Paul Davis and wife, Elaine, Tucson, AZ; daughter, Gerladine Wilkins and husband, Don, Severn Park, MA; son, Dennis Davis and wife, Helen, Vicques, Puerto Rico, Mike Carraway and wife, Julia, Houston, TX, LTC David Carraway and wife, Jacque, San Antonio, TX, Nancy Aslam, Albuquerque, NM, Martha Chambers and husband, Dewey, Burlingame, CA; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Andy led a humble life as a true gentleman, forgiving and slow to anger, with a special glint in his eye and a wonderful smile. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. ETHRIDGE -- Mack Edward Ethridge passed away at the age of 63 on Monday April 7, 2008, in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; daughter, Karey and her husband, Chuck Mitchell; and son, James and his wife, Alisa Ethridge; as well as granddaughters Kelsey, Kylie, Ava, and Diana, all of Albuquerque, NM. Also, brothers, Joe, Lonnie, and Raymond Ethridge; and sister, Betty Frazier, all of whom live in Texas. He was born on October 27, 1944, in Ft. Worth, Texas and was raised in Weatherford, TX. Mack was a graduate of The University of North Texas where he met Cheryl Rulaine Kiourkas, his wife of 40 years. After a career as an Account Manager for General Mills in El Paso, TX, he started Ethridge Tire Center, which has been located in Albuquerque, NM for the last 28 years. Mack was a recognized member of the community in which he lived, a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and the Executives Association of Greater Albuquerque. He will be remembered as an unassuming man who believed in people, who charted his own path in life, and lived it on his terms until the very end. He will also be remembered as a caring man who helped countless family, friends, customers, and employees in their times of need. We will miss him dearly. GONZALES -- Manuel Vicente Gonzales, 68, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on April 13, 2008. Manuel was born in Mineral Hill, NM on April 29, 1939 to Jose and Lucinda Gonzales. He and his 3 brothers grew up in Las Vegas, NM where he graduated from Robertson High School. He then served 3 years in the US Army where he was stationed in Germany. Manuel then moved to Albuquerque where he met and married his wife Sarah on October 7, 1967. During their 40 years of marriage they lived in the North Valley, built a home and raised 4 children. Manuel worked for Culligan Water Conditioning for 24 years then went back to school for a business degree. He then became owner and operator of Earlybird Lawn Sprinklers for 20 years. Manuel will be remembered for his love of children and grandchildren He enjoyed fishing, raising cattle, and watching sports. Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Lucinda Gonzales and his parent in-laws, Candido and Rose Montoya. GREGG -- John Irvin Gregg, age 87, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 14, 2008. He is survived by his wife, June, of 60 years; sons John I. Gregg Jr. and wife, Mary, of Glendale, AZ., and Steven Gregg, Jeff Gregg, and Leslie Gregg of Albuquerque; grandchildren John I. Gregg IV and Lisa (Gregg) Duncan and husband, Jamie, of Arizona, Jeffrey Gregg and wife, Danielle, of California, and Juli Gregg, David Gregg, Rebecca Gregg and Lauren Gregg, all of Albuquerque; and great grandchildren Alexa, Madaeleine, Olivia, AJ, Ashlen, Alaina, and John I Gregg V. He was preceded in death by son Michael Gregg of Albuquerque. John was born and raised in Raton, NM, played in the high school marching band, and helped support his mother and sister after the death of his father at an early age. John attended the University of New Mexico and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He attained the rank of sergeant and served as an air traffic controller in Georgia. After the war he returned to UNM and graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree under the GI Bill. Upon graduation, John worked for the Federal Housing Administration and retired with 30 years of service. He was a dedicated employee, had many friends and colleagues around the state of New Mexico, and was often called "Mr. FHA". Beyond federal retirement he worked for New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority for an additional eight years. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He spent many years with his sons in Boy Scouts of America and was selfless and giving in supporting his family and helping others. He had a strong will to live and endured various illnesses without bitterness. John attended First Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE. HOMAN -- Margaret J., 91, a resident of Albuquerque for 54 years, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2008, with her family present. She was born on August 24, 1916, along with her twin, Martha, in Dallas, Texas. Margaret attended public schools in Dallas before her father moved the family to Colorado where she graduated from Delta High School in Delta, Colorado. She attended the University of New Mexico in 1932 and completed her Bachelor's degree a few years later. Margaret married Lilburn C. Homan in 1940, and they had one daughter, Carol Ann Homan. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann and husband, Tom Goodwin, of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Becky Goodwin of Albuquerque, and Thomas Goodwin and wife, Sarah, of Denver, Colorado; three sisters-in-law, Genevra Jackson of California, Janice Blevins of Portales, NM, and Marian Homan of Albuquerque, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lilburn C. Homan, in 1986; parents, John Alexander Jackson and Nola Katherine Jackson; three brothers, Jim, Jesse, and Frank Jackson of California; and her two sisters, Mary Lou Ballenger and Martha Moore of Albuquerque. Margaret was an educator in New Mexico since 1934. She started teaching at age 18 in Estancia, NM, she taught in Moriarty, NM, in Albuquerque at Zia Elementary, Van Buren Jr. High, and Aztec Elementary. After achieving her Master of Arts degree in 1971, she became a Reading Specialist at East Area and later District Reading Coordinator for Albuquerque Public Schools in June 1979 until her retirement in 1985. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 .a.m. Friday April 18, 2008. at Christ Community Fellowship at 5908 Anaheim NE. JOHNSON -- Jan (Janice M. Johnson) Jan had her 76th birthday on April 1, 2008, this year and passed away peacefully at her home on April 12, 2008, from colon cancer. Jan was born to Harry and Mary Paulus in Los Angeles, CA in 1932 and met her future husband, Bob Johnson, when she was 15 years old. They were married on February 2, 1952. Jan was preceded in death by her oldest son Scott. Jan has four surviving children, Kathy Brown of Highlands Ranch, CO; Steve of Fountain Valley, CA; Matt of Albuquerque; and Craig of Stockton, CA plus her husband of 56 years, Bob. She leaves four grandchildren and four step-grandchildren plus a brand new great-grandson, Scott J., born February 21, 2008. Jan was very active with the Good Shepherd Center and its Auxiliary. She is a Past Treasurer of the Auxiliary and was its Secretary when she died. Jan met Brother Mathias Barrett, founder of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, shortly after arriving in Albuquerque in 1983. They chatted for over an hour at their first meeting, due in part to her knowing Brother's cousin, Fr. Vince Barrett, in California. She called Brother Mathias a saint and he said she was an angel. Cremation has taken place and a memorial Mass with Father John Daniel as celebrant will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be handled by the Brothers at the crypt of Brother Mathias. Special thanks are due to Vista Care Hospice and Christina, Marla, and Delora, who provided wonderful assistance. KILGORE -- David Bruce Kilgore, MD, 53, died unexpectedly of natural causes early Saturday morning, April 12, 2008. A loving husband, father, son, brother, and physician, he will be dearly missed by his family, his friends, and the many patients who have benefited from his care. He is survived by his wife, Miryam; his daughters Corinne, 17, and Maysie, five; his son, Benjamin, eight; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Donald E. Kilgore; brothers, Deke and John Kilgore, and their families; sisters, Susan and Julie Kilgore, and their families; and former wife, Barbara Seese. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Kilgore. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, David graduated from Albuquerque Academy in 1972. For many years he worked as an actor, director, and technician at theaters around the country, including Albuquerque's Alley Theater, of which he was a founding member. Subsequently, he became a cabinet-maker and fine woodworker, owning his own company, Bosque Woodworks. Throughout this time, he was an enthusiastic mountain climber and adventurer, participating in ascents of Alaska's Mount McKinley, Nepal's Cho Ouy, and other peaks around the world. As a member of Albuquerque Mountain Rescue, he joined in a number of difficult emergency operations, and later he was part of the first team to survey Lechugilla, a newly discovered chamber of Carlsbad Caverns. After Corinne's birth David returned to college at UNM, finishing his BS in Molecular Biology in 1996, his MD in 2001, and his residency in Family Medicine in 2004. In this difficult enterprise he was tirelessly supported by Miryam, who is currently pursuing her own MD degree at UNM. An associate at Rio Grande Family Practice until 2007, he then joined the Los Lunas Presbyterian Family Practice. Ever generous with his time and expertise, he has been zealous in attending to the needs of his large extended family. To lose him so early in his adventurous and productive life is very difficult. LUJAN -- Ida Lujan, born December 27, 1927, passed away peacefully in Rio Rancho, NM on Sunday, April 13, 2008. She was surrounded by family, friends, prayer and song. Ida loved to dance and listen to her sons play their guitars. She also enjoyed playing the accordion and the piano. She was famous for her beautifully crafted crochet blankets. Ida grew up on a farm in Mora, NM. Her strong will, zest for life, and unconditional love for family and friends was respected and appreciated by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Floyd, Phillip, Reuben, and Tim; and her daughters, Pauline, Mary Jane and Priscilla. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Joe; and youngest daughter, Bernadette. She will be missed by all including her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; in particular, her granddaughter, Lori who admired her strength. Ida spent the last seven years of her life with her daughter, Mary Jane and husband, Charlie Martinez who loved her dearly. The family would like to give a special thanks to the ICU staff at the Westside Lovelace Hospital as well as Ida's cardiologist, Dr. Dubroff and her primary care physician, Dr. Garcia. PENA -- Raymond Michael "Ray" Pena, age 19, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM entered into Eternal Life, Saturday, April 12, 2008. He was born in on December 8, 1988, to Michael and Sara Pena of Albuquerque. Ray was preceded in death by his father Michael Pena; his great-grandparents Jennie and Isidor Pena. PEOPLES JR. -- James 1917-2008 James McDill Peoples, Jr., age 90, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, after surviving prostate cancer, stroke, heart attacks, renal failure, and low alfalfa prices. He was known as James, Jim, and to most of Valencia County as "Mr. People". He was born in Matthews, NC, and plowed his father's fields behind mules while still in elementary school. He grew up attending Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, where burial took place on St. Patrick's Day in the family plot. Jim served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941-1946. He was stationed at Kirtland as well as in the Philippines and Japan. Following discharge, Jim returned to Albuquerque and made it his home. He was a realtor, but a farmer at heart, and moved to Valencia County in 1974 to farm and raise Hereford beef cattle and Alfalfa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and James McDill Peoples Sr.; his sister, Rachael; brother, Preston; infant daughter, Charlotte; and stepdaughter, Candi Smith. James is survived by his devoted wife, Claire; son, James R.; stepchildren, Harold, Jeni, and Kent and their spouses; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Perry, Margaret, and Emma. TAPIA -- Mary Susan "Susie" Tapia age 51 passed away in her home with her family by her side on Saturday April 12, 2008. Susie was born to Henry Aragon and Charlotte Martinez on September 21, 1956. She was happily married to Dennis Tapia for 31 years. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to spend time gardening and with her family. She was the department secretary for the pediatric unit at University of New Mexico Hospital for five years where she shared her gift of care giving. Surviving her is her husband Dennis of Albuquerque NM. Four Children: Melissa Briscoe & husband Sean of Sturgis, South Dakota, Angela Tapia-George of Albuquerque NM, Vicente Tapia & wife Anna of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dennis Tapia II of Albuquerque NM. Six grandchildren: Michael, Reyna, Abby, Vicente, Joshua and Ashley who brought so much laughter and joy to her life. Also surviving are her brothers, Alex, Charlie, George, Rick and Frankie Aragon along with her sister Lupy Lacy. She also is numerous nieces and nephews. Griselda was married fifty-two years to Charles Thomas, whom she met at Sandia Base while Charles was serving in the Army. She was a dedicated housewife and mother who devoted her life to caring for her husband and four children, Barbara Thomas and husband, Phillip Chavez, Charles Thomas II and wife, Patsy, Robert Thomas and wife, Carol, and Paul Thomas; she is also survived by her two sisters, Eulalia Sanchez and Isabel Garcia, she cherished and guided her grandchildren, Jessica Chavez and husband, Mathew, Samuel Chavez and fiance, Lila, Matthew Thomas, Amanda Thomas, Nichole Lucero and husband, Gerald Jr., Erica Chavez and Seth Noel; her great-grandchildren which gave her great joy, Gerald III, Gavin, and Azryella; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. UMPHRES -- Annette Ruth Hooten, 72, went to the Lord on April 11, 2008. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home following a long illness, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born January 29, 1936, in El Paso, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Gladys Hooten of El Paso, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Whitehorn-Umphres of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Darlene Bastien of Henderson, Nevada; her brother Clyde Hooten Jr. and wife of Citrus Heights, California; two grandchildren, and her beloved cats, Momma Cat and Monet; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her "adopted" daughter, Laura Wolfe of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and "adopted" granddaughters, Jessica Skaggs and Jael Esquibel. Annette was a true angel on Earth. Annette was a native of El Paso, Texas. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School, class of January, 1954, graduating in the top 10% of her class. Immediately following graduation, Annette was married on her 18th birthday Prior to her marriage, she had begun a career with the El Paso Times and Herald Post, which she put on hold to raise her family. She became a single parent in 1974, and resumed her career at Albuquerque Publishing Company, which lasted from 1974 until 1998, when she was forced to retired due to a severe illness. Annette was a stellar salesperson, and of her many accomplishments, salesperson of the year was one of her most cherished. Annette's integrity was impeccable, her faith and courage remarkable unshakable, her friendship was invaluable, her loyalty was unquestionable, her love was immeasurable and her presence will be irreplaceable. Those who relied upon Annette's wise, compassionate listening ear will sorely miss her as mentor, confidant, and peacemaker. The family invites you to celebrate the life and legacy of this beautiful, gentle and loving spirit, who left the world a better place than when she entered.
