RUMINSKI -- BARBARA V. On October 27, 2007 Barbara V. Ruminski, at the age of 90, left the frailties and ailments of her mortal body behind and proceeded to her eternal reward with our savior Jesus Christ. There she will rejoin the love of her life and husband of fifty years, Frank Ruminski. She was born Barbara Victoria Koszkovska in Brooklyn, NY on September 2, 1917, the only child of Julia and Boleslaw Kosacowski both Polish immigrants. Barbara was raised as a first generation American and learned to read, write and speak fluently in Polish and English. She remained proud of her ancestry and passed this to her children. At about the age of 14, on the sidewalks of Brooklyn, she met another first generation American of Polish immigrant parents, Frank Z. Ruminski, who would become her husband of fifty years. Barbara graduated from Girls Commercial High School in 1934 and began her secretarial career and worked for such notables as Walter Chrysler in Manhattan's then new Chrysler Building. As with all members of her generation, World War II interrupted the normal course of life. While Frank fought his way through North Africa a combat infantryman, Barbara volunteered with the Red Cross, worked, and cared for her mother at home. In October 1944, she and Frank were married in St. Casimar's Catholic Church and began their married life. In 1946 Barbara gave birth to son Richard and in 1952 to son Ronald. In 1956, for health reasons, Barbara and Frank bravely uprooted the family and moved to the then wonderful small city of Albuquerque. After arriving the family set about fully exploring the city, state and its cultures. Barbara and Frank also helped found a Polish-American club and became members of a dance troupe performing folk dances in traditional colorful costumes at various civic events. Frank continued his civil service employment at Kirtland AFB and retired in 1973. Barbara, in 1956, started a new career at Sandia National Labs where she worked until her retirement in 1988, concluding with her service in the Medical Division. Barbara and Frank were 48-year members of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Parish and have many friends counted among the parishioners. While physically able, Barbara attended daily mass, was a volunteer money counter and an active member of their prayer group. Barbara was preceded in death by husband, Frank in 1998. She is survived by son, Richard and friend, Claudia Romero of Albuquerque; son, Ronald and wife, Carol, granddaughters, Katie, Ellen, and Beth, all of Colorado Springs. We will miss our mom, as we do our dad, forever but know the lessons and values they taught us will guide us through our lives. Rosary will be recited Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 2, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, corner of Lomas and Tennessee, NE with Father Michael Cimino celebrant. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if people wished, they could make a contribution to a charity of their choice.
