LUND -- Ralph E. Lund, 87 a longtime Fort Sumner, NM resident died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Ralph was born April 4, 1920 in Laconia, NH to the home of John Edward Lund and the former Katherine McCrea. He was reared at Laconia where he attended Laconia High School. He later attended Laconia Business School. Ralph was a World War II veteran he served in the Aleutian-Alaska area until he was reassigned to the Army Air Corps at the Fort Sumner Air Base. Ralph, a staff sergeant was assigned to the Finance Office. While at the Air Base he met Lorna Chick a civilian employee in the Finance Office. They were married January 12, 1946 in Albuquerque. Following their marriage they returned to Laconia, NH where Ralph was employed with the Scott & Williams accounting firm. Ralph and Lorna made their home in Fort Sumner in 1953. Ralph ranched with his father-in-law E.H. Chick at Taiban, NM. He later worked as a bookkeeper for City Gas & Electric Co. In 1956 Ralph was hired at the Citizens Bank where he was later named Senior Vice President and Manager of the Fort Sumner Agency of Citizens Bank. Ralph also continued to ranch south of Fort Sumner for several years. He retired from Citizens Bank in 1985. Ralph was active in the Fort Sumner business community; he was a past member of the Lions Club, Fort Sumner Rotary Club, a league bowler, past city council member, a longtime member of NM Cattle Growers Assn. and an "Alligator Golfer". His pastimes included golfing at the Salt Cedar Country Club in Fort Sumner, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, music, fishing and sports especially March Madness. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Lund. He will be missed by his wife, Lorna Lund of the family home in Fort Sumner; two daughters, Linda Manchester and husband, Richard of Boulder, CO; and Marilee Koontz and husband, Jim of Fort Sumner; one sister, Rita Freeman of Laconia, NH; four grandsons, Clay Koontz, Justin Koontz, Alexander (Aldy) Manchester, and Rex Manchester. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007 from First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Keith Niehaus officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Clay Koontz, Justin Koontz, Alexander (Aldy) Manchester, Rex Manchester, Bob West, Billy Wilton, Eddie Spitz and Powhatan Carter. Honorary bearers will include Carl Vick, Don Wahe, Jim Payne, Neal Vaughn, Bill Sykes, Jim Walling, Kildee Herring, Donald Franks, Charlie Overton, and all his many friends.
