DUFFEY -- Peter Andrew Duffey, 39, of South Portland, Maine, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, June 13, 2007. Peter was born in Albuquerque, NM, on January 24, 1968, where he spent his childhood. He attended Albuquerque schools until 1984, when he moved with his family to Eliot, Maine. There, he attended Marshwood High School and was an active member of Future Business Leaders of America. He was also proud to be a cast member in the play "Guys and Dolls" during his senior year. His classmates presented him with a gold watch during a graduation assembly for being voted "Most Inspiring Student". After graduating in 1987, he was a volunteer at Portsmouth Hospital for two years. He then moved into his own apartment at Landry Village in South Portland, where he lived independently for nearly 18 years. Peter had many friends in the apartment complex over the years and often spoke fondly of all the people there. Peter was a very cheerful, fun-loving, warm-hearted person, who really enjoyed laughing, cracking jokes, and getting together with friends and family. He never could resist a chance to think up a joke to make others - and himself - laugh. Despite being in a wheelchair since the age of two, Peter participated in many activities throughout his life, including rowing, kayaking, sailing, bicycling, bowling, and swimming. He liked spending time working on his computer, playing games, watching movies and TV, and he really enjoyed going out to Sea Dogs games, Pirates games, bowling, and rock concerts. Peter liked all kinds of rock-n-roll music, and Weird Al Yankovic was one of his favorites. He also loved animals, especially the various Old English Sheepdogs belonging to his mother over the years. Peter was a proud Uncle to his niece Allie and nephew Colby, who both called him "Uncie". Every summer, Peter looked forward to attending the Pine Tree Camp on North Pond in Rome, Maine, where he would spend a couple weeks enjoying nature, swimming, boating and other camp activities. Everyone who has volunteered or served on the staff at the Pine Tree Camp should know how much this meant to him every year and how much he truly enjoyed it. Peter used to really like to go dancing at John Martin's Manor, where he would see live bands perform and dance around in his wheelchair - one of his favorites was the Jenny Woodman Band. In recent years, Peter has been participating in a craft class where he has made several impressive items and he has also had fun going to his biweekly swimming class at the South Portland pool. Peter's smiling face will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all of those fortunate enough to have known him. He is survived by his mother, Janet Consavage and stepfather Lee, of Eliot, Maine; his father, Tom Duffey and his wife Nelda of Tijeras, New Mexico; his sister, Carrie Sturgis, her husband, Jim, niece, Alexandra, and nephew, Colby of Gorham, Maine; an aunt, Susan Dysko of Levittown, New York; and his great-aunt, Caroline Phillips of Anchorage, Alaska. A Memorial Service will be held at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook Street, South Portland, at 6:30 p.m. on June 18, 2007. Arrangements are made by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, Maine. Box 518, Bath, ME 04530 or to The Center for Therapeutic Recreation, 222 St. John Street, Portland, ME 04102.

MONTOYA -- URIAH DANIEL Remembering Uriah Today on the anniversary of Uriah Daniel Montoya's passing; we reflect not on how he died, but rather how he "lived." Uriah, known simply as "The Lover" by his Great Grandma; lived a lifetime in just under 5 years. He loved to laugh & play baseball and he brought joy and sunshine to all who knew him. He was such a good and precious son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, but most of all he was the best big brother to Samantha. Uriah touched people in a very special way; perhaps it was always his calling to be an Angel in Heaven. We love and miss him dearly today and everyday. We remember him with tears of joy and feel blessed that the Lord shared the gift of Uriah with us from July 30, 1999 to June 16, 2004. We take comfort in the Word of the Lord, Strength in the Eucharist, and long for the day when we will be reunited with our Precious Uriah.

VILLARREAL -- Amelia G. Villarreal, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on June 13, 2007 surrounded by her family. A resident of Albuquerque since 1951, she was born in Bastrop, TX on July 13, 1913. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Celso M. Villarreal, a Baptist minister in New Mexico for 28 years, and her son, Abelardo Villarreal. She is survived by her brothers, Samuel Garcia, Jr. of Georgia and Gamaliel of Ohio; and sisters, Zulema Vasquez and Eudelia Gonzalez of Texas. Her sister, Gregoria died in 1944 and brother, Daniel in 2005. Amelia is also survived by her sons, A. Gilbert Villarreal (Janice) of Albuquerque, Hildebrando (Mary) of Pasadena, CA, and Albert (Sheila) of San Antonio, TX. Other survivors include grandchildren, Helen Nielsen (Jeremy), Belen and Carlos Villarreal; step-grandchildren, Howard Sleeper (Martha) and family, Tyrrell Patterson; step-great-grandchildren, Steven Sierra and family, Patrick Sierra, and Matthew, Christopher, and Samantha Fielder; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews in Texas, Ohio, and Georgia. The oldest child of Samuel and Nemesia Garcia of Bastrop, TX, Amelia had six brothers and sisters. She always described her family as "addicted to work" and "very united." Although scattered throughout the country, over the years they always kept in touch with each other. When her younger sister, Gregoria died in 1944 leaving three orphaned children, the family joined together to raise the children as their own. Her three brothers enlisted in the U.S. Army and served their country proudly at home and abroad. Zulema is a registered nurse, and her sister, Eudelia is a homemaker. Amelia described her early life in Texas on a ranch 20 miles from Bastrop as "very simple." Her 3-room childhood home had a small kitchen, a wood stove and no electricity or indoor plumbing. Amelia remembered vividly the big flood of 1935 that destroyed their home and all their possessions. She was very proud of being born into a Baptist family and in 1932 she married Celso Villarreal, who later was to become a Baptist minister in the Mexican community. They started their missionary work in Gonzales, TX where he had his first assignment for the Southern Baptist Convention. Times were difficult but they both were dedicated to the work they felt called to do. In 1941 they came to New Mexico, a place they came to love and appreciate as their permanent home. They lived first in Gallup and then Belen before finally settling in Albuquerque. Amelia was a homemaker until 1969 when her husband died. With no formal education beyond the 8th grade and no work experience she started to work at Margo's la Mode and continued there until she retired in 1990. She was very proud of the fact that she remained independent and never had to ask her children or relatives for financial help despite the modest wages she earned. Amelia described herself as reserved, compassionate and friendly. Although her hobbies were few, like crocheting and quilting, she never complained of being bored. She was completely dedicated to her church, The First Spanish Fruit Avenue Baptist Church, and her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Amelia's memory to the First Spanish Fruit Avenue Church's building fund, Women's Missionary Union, or Golden Circle. Services will be held at The First Spanish Fruit Avenue Baptist Church, 812 Fruit Ave. NW, on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 with visitation from 1 - 2 p.m. and Service starting at 2 p.m. Intement will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
