MADRID -- JOHN Loving father, grandfather, brother and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, May 28, 2012 at the age of 66. John loved his family and enjoyed collecting and riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles, horse racing and gambling. John is survived by his daughters, Michelle Roche and husband Benny, Jenee Sanchez and Fiance Jason Marquez; son, James Madrid and wife Margarita; brothers, Wilfred and Raymond Madrid; grandchildren, Johnathon and Samantha Roche, Monique Villescas and fiance Dominic Sherfy, Kassandra Sanchez and fiance Francisco Gonzales, Isabella Marquez, Michael Valles and James Madrid; two great-grandchildren, Nehamiah Sherfy and Josiah Gonzales; friend and caregiver, Anthony Mead; close family friend, Liza Gonzales and numerous other family members and friends. TAPIA -- JOHNNY "Legendary Five Time World Boxing Champ of Albuquerque", went to be with his two beautiful mother's Virginia and Annie; grandma, Lala; grandpa, Miguel Tapia; brother, Robert G.; and nephew, Benny on Sunday, May 27, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Teresa C Tapia of Albuquerque, NM; three children, "Little J", Lorenzo, and Nicco; fathers, Jerry Padilla Sr. and "Pops" Tom Creg; and many siblings, nephews, nieces, other family members, spiritual mentors, friends and millions of fans across the world. ROMERO -- ADELINA MARIA Age 82, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Chimayo, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sotero Romero; parents, Emiliano and Ramoncita Martinez; uncle and aunt who raised her, George and Frances Chavez; brothers, Benny, Carmen, Eliseo and Vicente Martinez; sisters, Cordelia Marquez and Anslema Pacheco; nephews, Ricky, Tony, Leroy, Ralph and Wilfred Martinez and Harold Pacheco; sister-in-law, Martha Martinez and brother-in-law, Nash Marquez. Adelina was a religious woman and very proudly supported Morada de Nuestro Senor de Esquipula del Santuario. She was a hard worker, an excellent cook and a very loving and caring person and was always willing to offer a helping hand to all her family, friends, neighbors and others in need of help. She adored and raised her loving successful children. GONZALEZ -- MABEL R. Age 88, a resident of Albuquerque, went home to God on Thursday, January 5, 2012. She was proactive in caring for the needy in terms of food and clothing. Mabel served as a volunteer at the VA Medical Center. Mabel supported her husband while he was Chapter Commander of the POW. Mabel was very sociable in any environment. She really enjoyed spending time at the casino. She was artistic and loved horse racing. Above all she was a great cook and loved her family and friends unconditionally. Rosary will be recited January 9, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Parish, 5310 Claremont Ave NE, Albuquerque, with Deacon Pilar reciting. Mass will follow the Rosary at Queen of Heaven Parish. SILVA -- JOE F. "POMPOS" Age 62 of Santa Rosa died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Guadalupe County Hospital following a sudden illness. Joe was born May 30, 1949 in Puerto de Luna, NM to the home of Anastacio and Linora (Salazar) Silva. He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and Santa Rosa High School. Joe married Florence Sanchez on August 10, 1968 in Santa Rosa. He owned and operated Joe's Diesel Service in Santa Rosa from 1968 until 1999. Beginning in 1999 he worked with his son Joey at Silver Moon Auto Repair. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, car racing, and riding his motorcycle. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by a brother Chris Silva in 1969. Survivors include his wife Florence Silva of the family home in Santa Rosa; a daughter Rhonda Alarid and husband Donnie of Santa Rosa; three sons Robert and wife Lisa Silva of Tijeras, NM; Joey and wife Crystal Silva of Santa Rosa; Johnny and wife Monica Silva of Albuquerque; his parents Anastacio and Linora Silva of Santa Rosa; two brothers, Vincent Silva and Steve Silva both of Santa Rosa; four sisters, Tina Silva of Santa Rosa; Helen Romero of Los Lunas, NM; Dolores Lucero of Santa Rosa; and Frances Marquez of Espanola, NM. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren along with a host of family and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Mass will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011 with Father Bill Sanchez and Father Joseph Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna. SANCHEZ -- WILLIE SR. 1935-2011 Willie Sanchez Sr., age 75, a resident of Belen, and formerly of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011. He was a member of the Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley. Willie enjoyed spending time outside, fishing and hunting. He loved being a grandpa so much that other children besides his grandchildren would call him grandpa. He was a loving and devoted husband and dad. He was preceded in death by his son, Willie Sanchez Jr.; parents, Eusebio and Emma Candelaria Sanchez and sister, Lucy Tafoya. MORA -- Corina E. Mora, 80, was born January 31, 1931 in Placitas, New Mexico and passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011 in Albuquerque. Corina enjoyed keeping busy cooking, traveling and picking pinons with friends and family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oracio Mora and daughters, Rita Canham and Gloria Marquez. She is survived by her son, Martin Acosta and wife, Lucille of Bernalillo; grandchildren, Sharon Mora and husband Joe, Jacquelyn Acosta, Janice Baca and husband Brian, Lori Canham, Amanda Lopez and husband Johnny, Veronica Acosta, and Kristi Canham; 12 great grandchildren and many other family and friends who love and will miss her. CHAVEZ -- Blas Chavez, 66, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, November 1, 2010. Blas was born in Los Chavez on November 12, 1943. Blas enjoyed fishing, camping and loved to watch wrestling and football Go Redskins!; but above all Blas adored his family and enjoyed spending all his time with his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. PADILLA -- Benjamin Marquez Padilla First SGT US Army Retired, 81, passed away on June 3, 2010 at his west side residence. Mr. Padilla was a lifelong resident born in Mesilla, NM on March 6, 1929 to Ysidro Chavarria and Louisa Marquez Padilla, the 10th of 13 children, five passing away at infancy and childhood. "Benjie", "Ben" graduated from Las Cruces Union High School. He and four brothers served in the military. Ben was recruited at the age of 20 into the National Guard and later enlisted into the regular Army in 1951. He fought and served in the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Marksman (Carbine) Expert (Rifle), Total of eight Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal with Oakleaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He retired in 1975 after 27 years of service to his country from Fort Bliss, Texas. During his service he met his lovely wife Anita Cano and raised two sons, Raymond and David. He served tours in Japan, Okinawa and Korea after the war. After retirement, Ben continued his education at NMSU - Dona Ana Branch where he attained an associate degree in Water/Waste water System Technology. He was a Level IV Operator at the town of Silver City Waste water Plant where he retired after eight years. He also worked for three years for the town of Anthony, NM at their waste water plant until health problems prevented further service he was a member of VFW. He loved his guns, hunting, woodworking and being a grandfather. He was preceded in death by his eldest sister Sofia; brother Samuel II; his mother Louisa; father Ysidro; brothers, Valvino, Gilberto, Eduardo, Salvador; sister Aurora; and nephew Danny Padilla. He is survived by his lovely wife Anita Cano Padilla; one sister Lydia Beardsley of Madison, IN; his sons, Raymond Padilla and wife Mickie of Las Cruces, David Cano Padilla and wife Jerrie of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Michael Paul, Desirea, PVT2 Alexandra US Army, Diego, Isabelle, Mateo and Alejandro Padilla; one great-grandchild, Amara Alicia Padilla; and many nieces and nephews. Ben will lie in state from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors.
