HASBROOK -- CARLETON CONRAD Passed away early in the morning on Friday, February 24, 2012, surrounded by family. Born in Glendale, California on June 6, 1948, he spent his early childhood in Clovis, New Mexico. The eldest son of an Air Force Colonel, from an early age he showed a vibrant spirit and an indomitable passion for life. Growing up in a military family gave him the opportunity to travel extensively and experience the world, which only further fueled that passion. In his early 30's, Carleton was asked by a boss to pick up golf as a way to mingle with their clients. So began a deep and abiding love affair with the game that would later come to define him. So great were his twin passions for golf, and for the wide open beauty of New Mexico, that in the late 1990's, Carleton left a successful career in marketing for the aerospace and defense industry in Ohio to follow his dreams. Returning to the Albuquerque area in 1997, he started working on his golf game in earnest, rising in status as he lowered his handicap. Turning pro in 1998, he spent many happy years, working in country clubs, representing Callaway Golf, and playing every chance he got. He found his true calling in working with children, teaching them to play the game he loved so much, and inspiring in their young minds the same energy and passion. A charismatic and charming man, Carleton spent his last years in the Lake Valley, New Mexico community, where his heart and soul had at last found their home. A friendly competitor to the end, Carleton had five holes-in-one to his credit, and he played his last game of golf just a week before he passed. He follows his parents, Colonel Carleton and Dorothy Hasbrook and his cherished sister Peggy Botkin death. Carleton is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Faulkner Hasbrook; his sister, Kathleen Hasbrook Robinson; brother William Hasbrook; son Forrest Hasbrook and wife, Capiz Calloway; daughter Portia Hasbrook Mohr and husband Scott Mohr; grandchildren Adelyn and Beckett Mohr; and various nieces and nephews. The family will be holding a private celebration of Carleton's life at home on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at 25 Black Range Road, Hillsboro, NM. They ask that in lieu of flowers, you go out and hit the links. Cremation arrangements are by Kirikos Family Funeral Home, Inc. & Sierra Crematory, LLC. 303 N. MCCANTS -- HILMA JEAN ARLINGTON, TX -- Age 86, passed away peacefully after a long battle. Funeral: 3:30 pm, Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home-Bowen Chapel. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM, Friday, March 2, 2012 at 2:15 pm. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Lung Association or American Cancer Society in honor of her husband, John Arthur McCants. Jean McCants was born in Lake Como, Miss. on February 27, 1925. She was the third oldest of 11 children. Life was a struggle growing up as money was scarce. What Jean lacked in personal belongings though, she made up for in love of family and friends. Life was very rich in that she was fortunate enough to marry the love of her life, Arthur. Together they raised their three sons and took in two teenage nieces who all grew to have beautiful families of their own. In her later years, with eyesight failing, she moved in with her youngest son Larry and his family, close to her brother, Joe (Dan). She loved hearing of her grandchildren's accomplishments and interests. Her youngest grandsons loved helping their Granny. Likewise, her brother Joe was often helping out and giving her a great belly laugh. Jean was full of stories, loved to laugh, had a tremendous memory, and was sentimental about absolutely everything. Jean was dear to all of us and will be sorely missed. Survivors: sons, Larry McCants and wife Pam, John McCants and wife Jody, Bob McCants; nieces, Annette Little and husband Gary, Bertha Morrow and husband Rod; brothers Dan Dawkins and wife Louise, and Bobby Dawkins and wife Doris.
