SIEVERT -- JEAN CLARA PESKE passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2012 of congestive heart failure. Jean and her husband Clifford Sievert moved from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1962 where she taught 25 years for the Albuquerque Public Schools. During her 20 years living in Rio Rancho, Jean and Cliff were extremely active in politics and helped create a city charter along with bringing various issues of concern to city government. Jean pursued her avocation as the author of local and state political initiatives. After Clifford died, Jean moved from her 20 year residence in Rio Rancho to a house behind her daughter, Linda Stebbins and son-in-law, Jack Stebbins's home. There she authored several children's books with the encouragement of her friend from junior high, Betty Lambert Thorpe and Aunt/Artist Shirley Cloninger. Some of these books have been translated into braille. Her house always had a Labrador or a Chesapeake Bay Retriever as a continuous companion. When her last dog, Oops passed away, the Gordon Setters moved into her daily life. She was a huge advocate for the Gordon Setter Club of America and extremely supportive of the Gordon Setters who visited her talking cookie jar every day. Her three Gordon Setter books depict the appreciation and love for the breed. Jean was an avid reader, finishing up to 5 books a week. She studied five languages, which included Latin and Russian. She always said the best she could do nowadays is read a French menu poorly. (That wasn't fact.) Lorraine Hansberry, "A Raisin in the Sun" was one of her favorite floor mates at the University of Wisconsin in Madison where they were attuned to one another's values, ideals and work ethic. As an accomplished writer, caring teacher, loving mother and generous human being, Jean will be truly missed by all who have crossed her path. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Stebbins and son-in-law Jack Stebbins, along with a passel of Gordon Setters. A fancy dresser and style maven Aileen loved going shopping to second hand stores with her beloved and dedicated daughter Kathleen.
