ALCALA -- THEODORE (TED) Age 57, a resident of Corrales, New Mexico, passed away on July 8, 2011. Ted was born on December 19, 1953 to Frank and Dolores Easterday Alcala of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He served in the US Air Force from 1974 until 1982. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor, and his beautiful soul. He can now rest in peace. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Daniel Alcala; and his brother-in-law, Aaron Levin. Mr. Alcala is survived by his children, Cherie Meguess of Pensacola, Florida, Anthony Alcala of Valdosta, Georgia, and Meghan Alcala of Ft. ANCHONDO -- JOSE J. Was born August 13, 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in Denver, CO at the age of 35. He is survived by his mother, Mary Trujillo and by his father, Oscar Anchondo Sr. and wife Ester; his dear son, whom he loved very much, Julian Anchondo; his companion, Yevette Trujillo; brothers, Oscar Anchondo and wife Elicia and Socorro Vargas; sisters, Sonia Rocha and husband Salvador, Sylvia Fierro and husband Adrian, Socorro Trejo and husband Alejandro, Alicia Ramos and husband Eric, Christina Cueva and husband Carlos and Monica Anchondo; grandmother, Delfina Mesa; as well as many other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 820 Broadway SE. just south of Central, on Friday, July 15, 2011. ANGEL -- MARY LUZ Was born March 21, 1929 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the age of 82. Mary was a waitress and nurse's aide and a lovely lady who will be loved and missed. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Frances Josephine Angel. Mary is survived by her two sons, James A. Angel Jr. and Johnny C. Angel; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; other family members and friends who will always remember her. ATENCIO -- JOE Age 79, went to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, July 4, 2011. He was born on May 22, 1932 in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Atencio; son, Keith Atencio and son-in-law, Milo Lovato. Joe is survived by his sons, Joe Atencio and wife Vivian, Steve Atencio, Patrick Atencio, Tommy Atencio; daughters, Kathy Atencio, Sarah Neronha and husband Jeff, Jacqueline Schan and husband Larry, Mikki Lovato, Sonya Atencio and fiance Mark; sisters, Rosella Villa, Lola Ragan and husband Bill; 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; niece, Sylvia Serna; and brother-in-law, Max Sanchez. Joe loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them; he will be greatly missed by numerous friends and extended family. BACA -- JUAN May 7, 1933 to July 11, 2011, age 78, went to be with our Lord after a long battle with oral cancer. Mr. Baca was preceded in death by his parents, Jose M. Baca Sr. and Paulita J. Baca; and his brother, Jose M. Baca Jr. Mr. Baca is survived by his sisters, Rita, Soila and Elena (Mark); his brothers, Richard, Robert (Anna), and Ray (Grace); his children, Eloy Linda, Donna, Theresa, Juan Jr., and Lucille; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; the mother of his children, Felicita Arevalos; his good friends, Moises Chavez and Ray Candelaria. Mr. Baca was a gardener planting mostly blue corn and chili. He loved animals, especially his chickens. His favorite place to go was "El Pino" where he said he felt at peace. He also like going to "66" casino. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and many cousins who thought the world of him. CANDELARIA -- DAVID Funeral Mass for David Candelaria age 89, of Austin, Texas and Ice Caves, New Mexico will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011, 10:00 am at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants, New Mexico. Burial will follow at the Candelaria Family Cemetery at Ice Caves, New Mexico. A Prayer Service and Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 7:00 pm at Compassion Mortuary. David was born on January 27, 1922 in Concho, Arizona and he passed away on July 10, 2011 in Austin, Texas. He is the grandson of Silvertre Mirabal and Lorencita Jaramillo Mirabal of San Rafael, New Mexico. He was the son of Prudencia Mirabal Candelaria and M.A. Candelaria. David was the owner/operator of the Ice Caves and Bandera Volcano since 1947. He developed the Ice Caves Trading Post and successful tourist attraction known as The Ice Caves. Upon his return from Navy duty in World War II, David began developing the Ice Caves as a business. During these years he cleared trails, worked the land, and strongly advocated for tourism in New Mexico. The Ice Caves is still thriving today. He is survived by his three loving daughters, Janet O'Connor of Grants, New Mexico, Debbie Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas and Betsy Reinschmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Kathleen O'Connor of Grants, New Mexico, Marcie Bradley of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lora Alford of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amy Goodman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rory Reinschmidt of Parker, Colorado, Daniel Reinschmidt of Colorado, Chelsea Reinschmidt, David Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas and Janet Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan Alford of Grants, New Mexico, Meaghann Reinschmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Connor and Logan Goodman of Monument, Colorado. FITZ-GERALD -- GERALD JR. Was born July 2, 1939 in Houston, TX to Gerald and Elizabeth "Betty" (Eyler) Fitz-Gerald, who raised their only son in Midland, TX. He died peacefully at home of natural causes on July 9, 2011, surrounded by family and friends, in Albuquerque, NM, following an eight-month battle with cancer. An accomplished artist who worked in numerous mediums, primarily watercolor in his early painting periods and most notably monotypes later in his career, Gerald's still-life subjects and Southwestern landscape paintings were hailed as "hauntingly sensual" by The Albuquerque Journal circa 2002. Gerald printed with close friends at New Grounds Workshop in Albuquerque and served on various art acquisition committees and in donation capacities for the Albuquerque Museum. Gerald was also proud of his tenure as the President of the Albuquerque Museum Foundation in the 1990s. Gerald grew up in Midland, TX, attending St. Edward's High School in Austin before attending Rockhurst College in Kansas City. Gerald returned to Austin to earn a B.A. in English from the University of Texas, where he was an active member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Following one year in pursuit of a law degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Gerald moved to Albuquerque in 1963. The New Mexican city is where "Gerry" met his future wife, Dorothy Ann Burke, and established his life as a trust officer for Albuquerque National Bank, his employer for nearly 35 years under numerous banners, including SunWest, Boatmen's, and eventually Bank of America. He is survived by his son, Gerald III ("Trey") and daughter-in-law Rachel, residents of Salt Lake City; daughter, Erin Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Catherine Ann, of Albuquerque; and innumerable friends. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy, in October 2007. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at French-University Chapel. GUEST -- JOHN D. February 17, 1917 - July 10, 2011 John was born in Cole, OK, on February 17, 1917, and during the Depression and Dust Bowl days moved with his family from Cole to west Texas and the Estancia Valley in New Mexico. The family eventually settled in Albuquerque where John graduated from St. Mary's High School and then attended Loyola of the South in New Orleans, LA on a football scholarship. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps as a flight instructor and pilot. He and Sophie Bubany were married in Gallup, NM in 1943. After the war, John pursued his love of flying as a pilot with United Airlines. He and Sophie raised their six children in Gallup where he served as President of the Merchants Bank / Sunwest Bank for over 25 years. He was an active Rotarian and promoted New Mexico through his service with the New Mexico Amigos. After retiring John and Sophie divided their time between Wickenburg and Pinetop, AZ before moving back to Albuquerque in 2004. John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sophie; children, Michael Guest (Sandy); Phyllis Bachhuber (Fred); Ellen Guest; Regina Guest-Rupert (Mark); Christopher Guest (Suzanne); Marigail Littlefield; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; sisters Teresa Sei, Rita Curran (Johnny), and Regina Moran. He was preceded in death by brother, Patrick F. Guest, and sister, Mary O. Bachechi. HODOCK -- MARY A. Age 95, was born October 8, 1915 to Mary and Michael Dedich in Cambridge, Ohio. On July 7, 2011, she quietly passed away in the family home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael and her son, Joseph. Mary was a generous woman who tutored children while in high school and did not attend college in order to help her brother, Michael, pay for medical school. When she married her military husband, she became the ultimate mother and multi-tasker When her husband was on out of town assignments, she was both mother and father to her children. Mary also managed to move the entire family to wherever the next military assignment was. She was blessed with an irresistible personality and a strong will and it was this will that enabled her to actively live her 95 yrs., and enabled her to leave this earth on her own terms to rejoin her loved ones who left this earth before her. Her great sense of humor and a very strong belief in God was shared daily with family and friends. She was blessed with a keen mind that was with her to the end. Mary was the example of how a mother and wife should be and she will greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Mary is survived by her daughters, Barbara and Teresa Hodock of Albuquerque, Suzie and Lee Duff of Las Cruces; her sister, Helen Kelly, aged 98, Sarasota, Florida; daughter-in-law, Maureen Hodock of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Megan and Robert Schuller of Las Cruces; grandson, Colin and Heidi Duff; great-grandson, Tristin Duff, Roswell; grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Katie, Annie and John Hodock of Albuquerque; numerous nieces and nephews. MARTINEZ -- JOSE QUINONES Age 93, of Albuquerque, passed from this life on Friday, July 8, 2011. Jose was born in Anthony, New Mexico on October 15, 1917 to Manuel and Camila Quinones Martinez. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a friend to all. Jose is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ventura; his four sons, Robert (Rita), Daniel (Diana), Jerry (Cecilia), and Michael (Rossela); eleven grandchildren, Yvette Baggerly (Dave), Monique, Daniel, Tanya, Melissa, Jeremy, Alyssa, Nicole, Matthew, Michael and Monet; three great-grandchildren, Andres, Brandon and Tayla; brother, Ramon of Deming; sister, Jesusita of Deming, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carmen Avalos of Las Cruces. Jose proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an artillery man - serving in Europe against the Germans and after Pearl Harbor, in the Aleutian Islands against the Japanese. Jose married Ventura Torres on November 19, 1944 in Garfield, New Mexico. Jose and Ventura moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Jose worked for Jill's Bakery from 1952 to 1984. His hobbies were gardening, watch repair and tinkering with anything that was broken or not. Jose lovingly cared for Ventura at home as her Alzheimer's disease progressed, until his broken hip led both of them to live at Manzano Del Sol Village, where they shared a room. Jose was affectionately known as "Scooter" at Manzano Del Sol for his speedy travels around the facility to attend all the activities in which he participated - Bible study, church, bingo, movies - and to spend time in the courtyard. He was an honest, faithful, hard-working man and will be fondly remembered by the numerous lives he touched. His parting remark to everyone was always, "God bless you". Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011, 6:00-7:00 p.m. with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 15, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque. MILLER -- HESTER Hester Miller died on July 9, 2011, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on November 3, 1920 in Morenci, Michigan to Russel and Bertha Myers, she grew up there and in Hillsdale, Michigan. Hester attended Michigan State University at East Lansing from which she graduated second in her class in 1941. In 1943, she graduated from the University of Michigan with graduate degrees in English Literature and Library Science. At University of Michigan she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Following graduation, she served a summer internship in the Theatre Collection of the New York Public Library. In the fall, she began a seven year stint in the Music and Drama Department of the Detroit Public Library. In Detroit she met and married Ransom Miller, one of her clients in the music department. In 1951, the couple moved to New York City where Hester worked in the Music branch of the New York Public Library. Following several years in New York, she moved around the country with her husband, working as a librarian at Johns Hopkins University, the American Association of Accountants, Michigan State University, Detroit Public Library (again), and finally the Albuquerque Public Library. She acted as the Arts Specialist at the Albuquerque Library from 1958 until her retirement in 1982. In the latter of those years, she organized and mounted, with the invaluable assistance of committed volunteers, several major exhibitions. At the time of her retirement, Mayor Harry Kinney declared "Hester Miller Day in Albuquerque". Hester belonged to a number of professional organizations, including the American Library Association, the Theatre Library Association, the Music Library Association, and the New Mexico Library Association, of which she served as President. She was also a member for several years of the local chapter of the Santa Fe Opera Guild, of which she served as secretary. Ransom and Hester enjoyed traveling, gardening, dining in interesting restaurants, and all kinds of theatrical and musical performances, including ballet, modern and ethnic dance, opera, musical theater, and plays. They also were enthusiastic sports fans - especially for the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Hester was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Helen; her husband, Ransom; her brother, Kurtz. She has no survivors, but she leaves many neighbors and caregivers whose friendship, kindness, and help she deeply appreciated. MONTOYA -- CARMEN S. Age 90, born in Corrales, NM in 1921 and passed away on July 10, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clory and Evangelina Silva and sisters Dora, Pia, and Adela. Her husband of 49 years, Juan Montoya passed away in 1992. She is survived by her son, John Montoya and Carmen Quintana; daughter, Becky Pixley and husband Bruce; brothers, Clory Silva Jr., and Felipe Silva; sisters, Sistie Baca and Mayta Welbat; four granddaughters, Ann Howard, Elizabeth Campbell, Julie Ilgen, Kimberly Spence; and seven great-grandchildren. ROMAN -- MARTIN MATTHEW Entered into Heaven on July 11, 2011 in Corona, California. Martin was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 27, 1963. In Albuquerque, he attended Saint Mary's Elementary and Middle School, Saint Pius High School and West Mesa High School. Martin went on to graduate from Barstow High School in Barstow, California in 1981. Martin maintained a 3.5-4.0 grade point average and favored science over the rest of his studies. Martin enjoyed the simple things in life like camping, fishing and a good meal. His intelligence, humor, wit and concern for others will truly be missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Deacon Francis Roman. He is survived by his mother, Lenora Roman; brother, Benedict Roman and his wife, Patricia Roman; sister, Laurianna Sargent and her husband, Jim Sargent; Nephews, Ben Roman, Derek Roman, Wyatt Starr, Jack Sargent; aunts, Vina Sesma, Vera Gutierrez; uncle Raymond Sandoval and wife, Angie Sandoval. SILVA -- JOE F. "POMPOS" Age 62 of Santa Rosa died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Guadalupe County Hospital following a sudden illness. Joe was born May 30, 1949 in Puerto de Luna, NM to the home of Anastacio and Linora (Salazar) Silva. He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and Santa Rosa High School. Joe married Florence Sanchez on August 10, 1968 in Santa Rosa. He owned and operated Joe's Diesel Service in Santa Rosa from 1968 until 1999. Beginning in 1999 he worked with his son Joey at Silver Moon Auto Repair. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, car racing, and riding his motorcycle. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by a brother Chris Silva in 1969. Survivors include his wife Florence Silva of the family home in Santa Rosa; a daughter Rhonda Alarid and husband Donnie of Santa Rosa; three sons Robert and wife Lisa Silva of Tijeras, NM; Joey and wife Crystal Silva of Santa Rosa; Johnny and wife Monica Silva of Albuquerque; his parents Anastacio and Linora Silva of Santa Rosa; two brothers, Vincent Silva and Steve Silva both of Santa Rosa; four sisters, Tina Silva of Santa Rosa; Helen Romero of Los Lunas, NM; Dolores Lucero of Santa Rosa; and Frances Marquez of Espanola, NM. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren along with a host of family and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. STEPHENSON -- MURIEL L., Ph.D Age 88, longtime resident of Albuquerque, lately of Tucson, AZ. Passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011, in Tucson. She was born in St. Paul Minnesota Jan 15, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Jacob E. and Daisy V. Janzen of Moorhead, MN. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Lonnie F. Stephenson, Jr. (United States Army), and the sister of the late Robert B. Janzen, Ft. Worth, Tx. She leaves as survivors her sister, Dorothy Janzen of Phoenix. Her son, Lonnie F. Stephenson III of Tucson; daughter, Melissa Stephenson, Queens, NY; two grandchildren, Jacob P. Stephenson, U.S. Army Fort Benning, Georgia and Haley R. Stephenson, Tucson. After completing a B.A. Degree from Concordia College in Moorhead MN, Muriel briefly taught in Montana. She then joined the U.S. Foreign Service to work in post-war Germany in Nuremburg and Frankfurt where she facilitated transfer of displaced persons. It was there she met her future husband, "Steve" who was stationed there in the service. Subsequently upon his transfer, they married in Oakland, CA. As a service wife she moved many times, including a tour in Taiwan. In Grand Forks North Dakota, Muriel completed her education at the University of North Dakota earning an M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literature. They moved to Albuquerque in 1969 where she taught in the English Dept. at the University of Albuquerque for a number of years. In 1980 she went to MN to be near her parents as her father was seriously ill. At that time she accepted the position of Academic Dean at St. Thomas University. Upon her father's death, the family returned to Albuquerque where she returned to teaching at the University of Albuquerque. After retirement, Muriel continued her special interest in the fine arts, music and theatre. She traveled widely and attended events in New York and elsewhere always supporting the arts in Albuquerque. She served on the Board of the Arts Commission and on the Board of the Library in Albuquerque. Because of failing health, Muriel in 2008 moved to Tucson to be near her son, Lonnie. It was in Tucson that she passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 3, 2011. Muriel was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, teacher and a staunch friend. She assumed all these roles with dedication, feeling and dignity always striving to do her best despite encountering many obstacles on the way. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A Service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 E. Chelwood Blvd, NE, Alb. NM, on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:00 am.

WECKEL -- DOROTHY ELIZABETH Age 85, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 10, 2011. Our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend suffered for a short time with cancer and was finally released from the disease. She was welcomed to eternal joy by her parents, Lola Ethel Goodpasture Kornegay and Thomas Gilder Kornegay, and her husband, Wilfin Robertson Weckel. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Dr. Wilfin (Billy) Ray Weckel and wife, Patricia (Hall) Weckel, and Thomas Allan Weckel; and daughters, Kathleen Weckel Boyd and Linda Ann Rhodes and husband, Loren Maurice Rhodes. Mrs. Weckel is also survived by four grandchildren: Geoffrey Weckel and wife, Meridith, Bryan Weckel and wife, Leanne, Beth and husband, Daniel Robinson, and Tabitha and husband, Carmen McCauley. She has seven (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren: Andrew Weckel, Avery Weckel, Morgan Rae McCauley, Sofia Robinson, Tate Robinson, Samuel Robinson, Luke Chester Robinson (to be born in September), Mary Weckel and Kye Weckel, (to be born in late November). Dorothy touched many people through her love of our Lord Jesus Christ and was a Sunday School teacher, prayer warrior, and faithful member of Sandia Baptist Church. WIDDOWS -- RHODAMAE "RAE" Age 86, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. She was born on December 26, 1924 in Los Angeles, California to George F. Weston and Evelyn V. Hudson Weston. She moved to Bella Vista in 2003 from Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she had lived for 43 years. Rae loved life and living in her new home in Arkansas. She enjoyed playing bridge with the ladies, her flowers, and watching the beautiful birds from her deck in Bella Vista. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years, Harold Widdows. She is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Cook and husband, Don of Bella Vista, Linda Milakovich and husband, Joel of Amarillo, Texas, and Lisa Evans and husband, Bob of Farmington, New Mexico; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. YOAKAM -- GENE A. "PAPPY" Pasted away at home on July 2, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. Gene is survived by his sister, Betty Briggs; four children, G. A. Yoakam, Cheryl Brown-Sampson, Tim Yoakam and Janine; two step-children, Brett Bentley and Jack Bentley; five granddaughters; four grandsons; and many close and wonderful friends and family. Gene better known by his trucking handle, "Pappy" retired from ABF in 1996 after a life-long career in trucking that included time with P. I. E. and Navajo. He was a Union Steward of Teamsters Local 492 and worked effectively for his fellow Teamsters. Pappy was known by all as an honest, kind and humorous friend, father, and husband. Pappy is preceded in death by his mother and father; fourth wife, Marty; and his life-companion, Lucille Tindell.
