BUFFETT, GEORGE DUVAL Age 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938 died Saturday, October 13, 2012. He is survived by his "wifee", Jeanette; sons, George II and wife, Rhonda, John and wife, Donna, and daughter, Patricia; grandchildren: Tyler, Rachael, Mitchell, George III and Lauren Buffett, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his nephews: Don Wunsch II of Rolla, MO, Tom Wunsch of ABQ, Doug Buffett of Seattle, Brad Buffett of Durango; and nieces Debbie Byrd of Maryville, TN, and Sandra Buffett of Santa Fe. Other survivors include sister-in-law and husband, Marilyn and Don Wunsch of ABQ, sister-in-law Linda Buffett of ABQ and brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Skip Franzen of Palm Desert, CA. His father, Clarence Buffett, his mother, Irma Buffett and his brother, Robert Buffett, preceded George in death. George, along with his mother Irma, was a founding member of Unity Spiritual Center over 65 years ago. He attended Sunday services regularly with his entire family. He was also an influential person in ABQ through his various businesses and involvement in politics. George's interest in politics stemmed from his uncle, Howard Buffett (a congressman from Nebraska) and he started getting involved in Young Republicans at UNM. He first attended the Republican National Convention in 1952 in Chicago and he served as a State Representative for 24 years (1979-2002). During his years in the Legislature, he served on the Appropriations and Finance Committee for many years and was best known for introducing the fewest number of bills during a session. He was a fiscal conservative, "pro" small business and fought against wasteful spending in Santa Fe. To further his cause, he started writing a political newsletter to educate and to provide insight into the inner workings of politics in NM. He wrote these newsletters, called Buffett's Bullets, from 1989 through 2008 and had a mailing list that grew from 150 to over 10,000 people from across the state. Once leaving the legislature, he also served as the Republican National Committeeman for the State of NM for four years (2004-2008) where his journey came full circle and he again attended the Republican National Convention in 2008 in Minneapolis. George founded B&H Company in 1952, which ran concessions at various fiestas and fairs across the state. This business also ran the concessions at the ABQ Zoo for 16 years, the concessions at Speedway Park, the concessions at the Civic Auditorium and the concessions at the ABQ Dukes for 18 years. This business grew into B&H Wholesale, which supplies other concessionaires, their products and currently distributes across the state of NM and into parts of AZ, CO, OK, TX and UT. His two sons run this business. In 1956, George founded Buffett's Candies. Quality candy in addition to the giant candy cane decorating the building turned the candy store into an iconic landmark in ABQ. His daughter currently runs this business. In the early 80's George founded the Popcorn Cannery, which produces and distributes pre-popped and flavored popcorn to grocery stores in ABQ. Jim Poland, a long time employee and family friend, currently runs this business. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, October 19, 2012 at 1:00pm at Mountainside Church of Christ, 12300 Indian School Road NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's name may be made to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch, PO Box 9, Belen, NM 87002-9901 or United Way of Central New Mexico, www.uwcnm.org. LOHMAN, M. D. New Mexico has lost one of its most entrepreneurial and colorful businessmen. On October 16, 2012 at the age of 92, M. D. Lohman passed away peacefully and with a smiling spirit having lived well, accomplish- ed much and left the world a better place. A member of The Greatest Generation, he served in the U S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. The two driving forces in M. D.'s life were family and business. Over the years he combined the two, folding family members into one aspect or another of his many ventures and passing on to them the values that made him successful: work hard, think big, stay close. M. D. was never afraid of the unknown and always ready to take on a new challenge. A resident of NM since 1960, his enterprises included Commercial Products Restaurant Supply, Lohman Motors, and several night clubs throughout the state, as well as the #1 rated country western night club, Caravan East. He was also a licensed general contractor and an active investor in NM real estate. M. D. was generous and quietly philanthropic. During his years in business, he was always there to help a friend in distress or a stranger in need of a job. A member of the Seventh Day Adventists, he most recently donated a building for their church in Ruidoso Downs. Adventurous and enterprising, M. D. saw life as a smorgasbord of activities, fun and interests from which to choose. And he always chose big. He had a pilot's license, owned single and twin engine planes and loved flying around the U.S., as well as giving a lift to NM politicians as they campaigned around the state. Las Vegas, NV was his favorite destination for what he called a "vacation" of one or two days. He enjoyed gambling, playing cards, water skiing, and golfing. Throughout his life, cars and trucks were his passion; he bought them, worked on them and rebuilt them. Even into his 90's, M. D. came to work each morning to rebuild old pickup trucks, paint them red and sell them. He was a Denver Bronco fan and loved to watch Tiger Woods play golf. A handsome and charming man from beginning to end, M. D.'s trademark was hats. He wore cowboy hats, golf caps and baseball caps, but he especially loved his Greek Fisherman's caps, and wore them most often. M. D. Lohman will be affectionately remembered for all this and more. He was proud, tough, mischievous and smart. And no one can ever say he didn't take a huge bit out of life. He leaves a vast legacy of grand memories to all who knew and loved him. Born Manford Daniel Lohman in Axel Basin, CO to Daniel and Effie Rose Lohman, M. D. was one of children, all but one of whom has preceded him death. He leaves his wife 55 years, DeLores Griess Lohman; his devoted and loving daughter, Terry Lohman-Vigil and her husband, the Honorable Michael E. Vigil; his industrious and life-long business partner and son, Todd Lohman and his soul mate Kim McDonald; and grandchildren, Josh Lohman Shainin, Courtney Todd Lohman and Travis Haguewood. From a previous marriage M. D. is also survived by son, Dan Lohman and wife, Betty of Pasadena, TX; son, Don Lohman and wife, Judy of La Porte, TX; son, Doyle Lohman and wife, Diane of Deer Park, TX; and grandchildren, Danette, Darren, Chris, Kelly, Lori, David and Derek. M. D.'s only surviving sibling is Florence Harris Parker of Ruidoso Downs, NM. Services will be held Monday, October 22, 2012, 11:30 a.m., at French - University. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Friends may visit French - University from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012.
