PADILLA -- KATE G. TO THOSE I LOVE AND THOSE WHO LOVE ME, When I am gone, release me, let me go. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears, be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love, you can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I traveled on alone. So grieve a while, for if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part.. So bless the memories within your heart. I won't be far away, for life goes on. So if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all of my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and say, "Welcome Home". At 94, Kate received the sacrament of Extreme Unction and peacefully entered into the eternal kingdom of Heaven on October 15, 2011 at her home which she shared with her daughter. POTEET -- HORACE MONROE Died October 16, 2011. He was born April 5, 1930 in Turnersville, Texas to Horace and Elizabeth (Ulmer) Poteet. His father was a Methodist Minister and the family moved often to various small Texas communities during his precollege years. He started undergraduate school at Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth on a Methodist scholarship. Knowing that he wanted to study physics and math, he transferred to North Texas State Teachers College in Denton and obtained his masters degree in physics in 1951. During his final year at school a recruiter from Bell Labs approached him suggesting that he look at Sandia Corporation as a possible employer. The subsequent interview convinced him that both Sandia and Albuquerque were his future career destinations. On March 23, 1952, he went back to Denton to marry his college sweetheart Joy Hook who had recently graduated from Texas State College for Women. Horace and Joy have been happily married ever since. In 1956, he joined the active duty USU Naval Reserve where he attended Officer's Candidate School. At his request, he was assigned to the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project, Nuclear Weapons Training Group at Sandia Base---now Kirkland Air Force Base and home of Sandia National Labs. There he taught maintenance and repair of the MC1 and MC3 fusing radars. By 1956, the couple was settled into their own home in the far northeast heights of Albuquerque with their first son, Horace Wesley Poteet who now lives in Colorado. They have lived in this same house, but with many modifications, ever since. Three other sons were born to them, Thomas Monroe Poteet now of Colorado Springs, Colorado; William Peter Poteet of Albuquerque; and Jonathan Daniel Hook Poteet now living on the island nation of Grenada. Horace began his career working as an engineer at Sandia Labs in 1952. He retired from the same company after 50 of service on January 14, 2001 - having held one of the longest continuous careers in Sandia history. During his career there, he was involved in many projects ranging from radar work to investigating the "Taos Hum", and from doing "black hat" security studies on coded switches in nuclear weapons to participating in US/Soviet Joint Verification Experiments. The variety and novelty of the work he performed were among the many reasons he stayed at Sandia for those five decades. Since his formal retirement in 2001, Horace has remained with Sandia Labs on special contracts for various projects on a part time basis. For many years - since his days as a Boy Scout Leader Horace has been an avid hiker and spent many, many hours hiking in the southwest and Sandia Mountains. Horace was deeply interested in New Mexico, and known for his ready knowledge of bird life, plant life, and geography in the area. He was a long term Albuquerque Symphony Orchestra devotee holding season tickets and giving his sons the gift of classical music appreciation. He was an active hands-on Dad, participating in Boy Scouting trips, family projects, and activities for all his sons. He and Joy also traveled extensively with their sons while they were at home. Horace was a devoted family man who also left a life time of service to the nation in the fields of science and engineering. He is survived by his wife Joy and his four sons. Other survivors include William Peter's wife, Bonnie Dee and two sons, Gordon Erick and Arlie Dee; and Jonathan's wife Clare and their son Caleb. Gordon Erick and his wife Michelle Poteet of San Antonio, Texas are the parents of the two great-grandsons, Erick and Russell Poteet. Grandson Arlie Dee Poteet resides in Albuquerque. Horace is also survived by his brother William Poteet and wife Clara of San Angelo, Texas, and his sister Ann and husband Leonard Radde of Cleburne, Texas. "A Great Man". Please share your condolences, sympathies and memories with the family at: www.danielsfuneral.com. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm with services beginning at 4:00pm at Daniels Family Funeral Service Carlisle Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions be made to organizations that support the flora and fauna of New Mexico. Horace's care entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Service 3113 Carlisle Blvd, NE Albuquerque, NM 87110

QUETONE -- MICHAEL WELDON Sunrise: 10/20/1965 Sunset: 03/26/2007 HAPPY BIRTHDAY my beloved son. I remember many happy events during the time you were with us. When I see a feather or a marble in the yard - I think of you and feel that you are near. You had a liking for feathers and I have a memory of how you cut marbles in half to create a design for your window ledge(sills). I remember how you used to drop by unexpectedly and add to our day. If there was anything that needed to be done you would always do it for us and this includes the time you helped me with preparation of green chile for freezing. We look forward to the day we will be together again. Until then, we will all miss you, son. May the "WAR EAGLE" continue to gracefully soar high and proud in your honor forever and ever. With all of our love forever, Mom and Dad Sara and Buddy Quetone

TRASK -- RICHARD "DICK" Following a short illness, Dick Trask, 82, of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2011, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Kitty; and their three sons, Richard Jr. and wife Liceth of Palisade, CO, Ron and wife Gloria of Albuquerque, and Randy and wife Sarah of Minneapolis, MN. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, K.T. and Richard Trask, III, Torey Standley (Chris), Adam Gurule, Teresa Moore (Bob), and Randy Trask, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Whitley and Gage Moore; brother, Arnold of Webster, NY; and sister, Gloria Wagner of Yonkers, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Julia Trask; and his brother, Warren Trask, all of Yonkers, NY. Born in Yonkers, NY, Dick began playing the saxophone at age 12. By the age of 16, he was a member of the American Federation of Musicians and playing professionally. Using the sax to finance his education, Dick graduated from Manhattan College with a BS in mathematics in 1950. Later that same year, Dick started his career as a Department of Army civilian math statistician at Aberdeen, Maryland. He met the love of his life on a blind date in Aberdeen in 1953. Their courtship rarely included a Saturday night, as those were reserved for musical "gigs!" They were married in 1955 and began a 56 year adventure that spanned the globe, but no place more beloved to them than Albuquerque. While working in Maryland, Dick earned an MS in Statistics in 1959 from the University of Delaware. Upon his departure from Aberdeen, he became a Department of Air Force civilian where he served in a number of civil service assignments in the United States and in the Netherlands before moving to Albuquerque in 1973. Dick developed a profound love of New Mexico, and while he accepted one additional assignment in Dayton, OH, there was no question that he would return to New Mexico to retire. While in New Mexico, Dick earned a Master of Management degree from the University of New Mexico in 1977. In 1984, he retired from federal service as a member of the United States Senior Executive Service (SES). Dick was honored to receive numerous awards and citations including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award and Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service. He was a member of the Association of Old Crows, the Operations Research Society, and the Air Force Association. Following his retirement, Dick was selected to open and manage the Albuquerque office of General Research Corporation (GRC) in 1984. He continued to lead the office until his retirement from his second career in 1994. Dick was a founding member of the Professional Aerospace Contractors Association (PACA), served as president and vice president, and remained active as a member of the board until his death. While Dick's passion for music never diminished throughout his career, his ability to devote more time to music was a welcomed benefit of retirement. Dick was a founding member of Jazz a la Carte, a member of the Rio Grande Jazz Society, and a very active supporter of the Albuquerque Outpost Performance Space. He frequently worked with and encouraged young musicians. Dick was well known and loved throughout New Mexico's music community and was a true inspiration. He was an active member of John XXIII Catholic Community and a true American patriot. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Dick's passion for life was evident to the leagues of people whose lives he touched. His loss will be felt by many. Services will be at John XXIII Catholic Community on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Outpost Performance Space in memory of Dick, in honor of his love for jazz music.
