ADAMS -- Phoebe Dell Adams Former Albuquerque resident, Phoebe Dell Adams, passed away in Lansing, Kansas on Sunday, February 13, 2011. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 26, 2011, 10:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 422 Chestnut Street, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048. Mrs. Adams was born in Fort Necessity, Louisiana on December 11, 1922 to Alexander and Virginia (Swor) Trisler. She retired as a Department of the Air Force Civilian from Kirtland Air Force Base. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wilson Adams; and sons, Lynn W. Adams and Wayne W. Adams. She is survived by her daughter, Gaye A. Orlov; her son-in-law, William S. Orlov; her grandson, William S. Orlov, Jr and his wife, Laura; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Orlov Craig and her husband, John. ANAYA -- Serafin Anaya, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 11, 2011. Mr. Anaya is survived by his son, Martin Anaya; his brother, Clarence Anaya and wife, Corkey; his grandchildren, Martin Serafin Anaya, Angeline Jordan and husband, Bill, Isaiah Orona and Sherry, and Felecia Orona; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Anaya was preceded in death by his wife, Amalia (Mollie) Anaya; and his daughter, Mary (Julia) Anaya. Mr. Anaya was a member of the Catholic Church, and a Veteran of the U S Army, serving during WWII. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., by Gabriella Nieto. BENNETT -- Katryn (Kate) Michelle Bennett born on May 26, 1963 passed away at home on February 14, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her children, family and close friends. Kate was a bright, creative, unique individual who was memorable to all who knew her. She was a loving mother, survived by her children; Adeo, Sage, Athan and Ellis. She is also survived by her sister; Alice Parker and her husband Keith, their children Shasta and Tanner. Kate celebrated life in her last years, she especially enjoyed being a museum docent and being together with her children. Kate wanted to be remembered thus: "I have loved and been loved and been better for it." BERNAL -- Ralph "Kiko" Bernal, lifelong resident of Pena Blanca, New Mexcio was born May 3, 1933 and passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday February 12, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Kiko loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandkids, going fishing and driving threw town to visit his friends at the old tire shop. Ralph was a Union Carpenter with Local #1319 and did numerous types of construction all over New Mexico. He was preceded in death by parents; Maximinio and Maria; inlaws, Amalia and Willie Lucero; brother, Andres; sisters, Paubla Garcia and Lola Bernal; and son-in-law, Wilfred Gurule. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Louise Bernal of the family home in Pena Blanca; son, Ralph Bernal Jr. and wife Jayne of Pena Blanca; daughters, Theresa Bernal and husband Eddie Montoya of Bernalillo and Molly Gurule of Pena Blanca; brothers, Manuel Leyba and wife Delfinia of Albuquerque and Polito Bernal of Pena Blanca; sister, Umelia Lucero of Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico; Grandchildren, Melissa, Alfonso, John, and Dominic; great-grandchildren, Analeise, Esteven, Tomas and Kalieya and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who loved and will miss him greatly. BUNTEN -- Billye Lee. On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, Billye Lee Bunten, age 84, passed on to a new life without pain and the difficulties she bravely endured with the onset of diabetes that began twenty-five years ago. She was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy, in 2002; and her husband Donald, in August, 2010. They were married 65 years. Her two surviving daughters are Donna Bunten and husband Joe Roush of Olympia, WA, and Sharon Boyd of Albuquerque; She is also survived by grandson, Jeremiah Glenn and wife Amanda; great-grandsons, Mason and Brodie Glenn; dedicated son-in-law Dick Glenn; brother-in-law, Daniel Bunten; and loving sister-in-law Mary Ann Bunten, all of Albuquerque. Billye and Donald were married at Greenville Army Airbase, SC, on August 7, 1945. They lived in Albuquerque's South Valley for forty years before moving to Rio Rancho in 1986. CARDENAS -- Gilbert Cardenas, age 92, beloved and devoted husband and father, completed his journey on this earth and entered into Eternal Life with the Lord on Monday, February 14, 2011. CASAUS -- Victor M. Casaus, 81, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Victor was born on June 29, 1929 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico to Carlos M. Casaus and Isabel Gallegos Casaus. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Maida Lopez Casaus; son, Michael Casaus and wife, Wendie; daughter, Donna Lanigan and husband, Michael; four granddaughters, Dana Casaus and husband, David Ivey, Lauren Casaus Brinkama and husband, Moritz, Kendall Lanigan and husband, John Montoya, and Caitlin Lanigan; and great-granddaughter, Elyse Ivey. Victor retired after 25 years of service with the federal government. A man of many interests and talents, he became an accomplished and prolific Santero and wood carver. Inspired by his deep faith, many churches, synagogues, and shrines are graced by his works. CROSS -- William Arthur "Bill" Cross October 6, 1953 - February 4, 2011 William "Bill" Cross, 57, of Farmington, went to his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 4, 2011. His valiant fight is over and he is at peace. Bill was a long time employee of QWest prior to becoming a signal tech for the City of Farmington. Bill was a man of God and his faith was the foundation of his life. He was a devoted member and leader of Cross of Hope Lutheran Church, United Church of Farmington, and finally Trinity Lutheran Church. His faith walk was, and will continue to be, an inspiration to his family and friends. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Cross of Hope Lutheran Church in ABQ. GARCIA -- Frances Montoya Garcia, 84, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents, T.R. and Marcelina Montoya; and her brothers, Louie, Bennie, Mel, Juan and Tally. She is survived by her sons, Charles (wife Clara), and James (wife June); grandchildren, Jessica Bianca, Wayne and Jessica Marie (husband Adam); sisters, Guadalupe (Lupe), Josephine (Fena) and Laura; and many nieces and nephews. Frances was a successful businesswoman and owner of Valley Distributing Co. She was generous and over the years helped many local women in their business ventures. Cremation has taken place. GUARDIOLA -- Maria R. Guardiola, 87, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Sunday, February, 13, 2011. Maria was born in Mercedes, Texas on February, 10, 1924 to Emilio and Maria Rivera. Maria enjoyed spending time with her wonderful family and was very generous and donated to all types of charities. Maria is survived by her loving children, Irene Flores, Dolores Flores and husband Jose, Rosa Ruiz and husband Robert, Juan E. Guardiola and wife Orfita, Amelia Montoya and husband Marty, Ruben Guardiola, Gilberto Guardiola and wife Maria and Eddie Guardiola; 33 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Oralia Hernandez; and numerous other family and friends. HERNANDEZ -- Albina M. Hernandez, age 99, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmundo G. Hernandez; and two daughters, Dolores A. and Elodia P. Albina is survived by three daughters, Grace Hernandez Fink and husband, Bob, Juliet C. Richardson, and RoseAnn Hernandez; eight grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She began her college education at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande, formerly, Catholic Teacher's College then transferred to New Mexico A & M. She earned her Master Teacher's Elementary Life Certificate on June 12, 1953, followed by a Master of Arts degree on June 15, 1962, both from the University of New Mexico. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Retired Teachers Sorority, as well as a long time parishioner of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the choir. Albina enjoyed reading, knitting and traveling. She will be dearly missed. A Memorial Rosary will be held Friday, February 18, 2011, 7:00 p.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. HERNANDEZ -- Tony "Googie" Hernandez, age 84, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away February 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his mother, Faustina and father , Jose Hernandez; four brothers, Tiburcio, Guadalupe, Catarino V. (Joe) and George Hernandez. Tony was retired from the city of Albuquerque Police Department after serving 32 1/2 years as a patrol officer. He started his employment with the police department in January 1951 and he retired in June 1983 as a sergeant. He was also employed by New Mexico Title Company from January 1984 to January 1990 and later he worked for French Mortuary from October 1990 to June 1995. Tony served in the US Army during World War II from March 1945 to November 1946 and he was honorably discharged as a Tech. 5. Tony is survived by his wife Ursinia DeLaO Hernandez of 59 years; one brother Ignacio Hernandez and his wife Mary; one son, Anthony Hernandez and his wife Geri; three daughters, Elizabeth Ernst and her husband Walt, Barbara Studerus and her husband Ted, and Victoria Apodaca and her husband Leo; eight grandchildren, Phillip Ernst, Michael Ernst, Angelina Maldonado, Teddy Studerus, Kassandra Studerus, Anthony Hernandez, Jessica Candelaria, Teresa Apodaca, and Xavier Apodaca; two Great-grandchildren, Isabella Maldonado and Mackenzie Ernst; three brother-in-laws, Frank DeLaO and wife Celia, Roger DeLaO and wife Rachael, and Albert DeLaO and wife Dorothy. HERNDON -- Shirley I. Herndon, age 74, a successful business woman and long time resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at The Woodmark assisted living facility after a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia. She was a very creative and talented person who enjoyed traveling, crocheting, making jewelry, and working in her garden. Shirley won numerous awards with her unique floral designs. Working with her hands was her passion. Shirley is survived by daughter Vicki Frank and her husband Ronald of Wyoming; and daughter Debbie Cosgrove of Illinois; She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Lisa Frank, April Frank, Justin Goldstine, and Traci Goldstine. HOVEY -- Mary Hovey, 55, of Columbia, Missouri passed away on February 14, 2011 at Boone Hospital Center. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Memorial Funeral Home. Private graveside services will follow at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery. Mary was born May 12, 1955 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Clement and Francis Boucher. She was married to Dean Burnam on September 14, 1991 and he preceded her in death in 1996. She was then married to her long time friend and companion, Thomas Hovey on March 17, 2006 in Columbia and he survives. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxillary and VFW Ladies Auxilliary where she was a Past President and she received the President of the Year Award. She was very active as a volunteer at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital and she loved to take road trips and fish with her husband in Canada. Mary will be remembered as a great cook and she enjoyed all types of crafts including knitting, painting and woodwork. She would display and sell her crafts at local craft shows. She is also survived by daughter, Julie M. Boucher; son, Barnard R. Boucher; father, Clement Boucher; grandchildren, Stephanie M. Sanchez, Matthew G. Standage, James M. Dake, Mary G. Dake; great-grandchild, Destiny Michaels; brother, Pete Boucher; sister-in-law, Kathy Boucher; and nephews, Brandon and Corey Boucher. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Francis Miller Boucher. KWIECIEN -- Shirley Ann Kwiecien (Eslow) died peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2011. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on September 22, 1920. Her vocation was nursing; she graduated from Foote Memorial Hospital, Jackson, MI as a registered nurse in 1943. Shirley met the love of her life Frank J. Kwiecien through her best friend Ty Sypanski of Florida. They married August 26, 1945. Shirley and Frank fulfilled a lifelong dream by retiring to New Mexico in 1973. They resided in Carlsbad and then moved to Albuquerque in 1986. Shirley is survived by her three children, Michael Kwiecien of Oak Creek, WI, Jerome Kwiecien of Fairview, TX and Lori A. Williams of Albuquerque, NM and their spouses, Sue Kwiecien, Ann Kwiecien, and Ken Williams, respectively. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christian Kwiecien, Kenneth Hurst Williams, Theresa Weddle, Jessica Kwiecien, Alexander J. Williams, and Nicholas Kwiecien; and one great-grandchild, Tena Weddle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and sister, Eileen Ariesan. Being a resident of La Vida Llena for the past three years, she made many friends who will miss her dearly. MONTOYA -- Adelina (Lina) Montoya, 97, our Flor de Las Flores, passed away peacefully in her home on February 12, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. One of ten children born to Manuel Mora and Virginia Tapia Mora of Chilili, New Mexico, Lina was a prominent North Valley business woman who, after moving to Albuquerque from Mountainair, New Mexico, owned several businesses together with her husband, James Montoya including James' Lounge, El Saguaro Lounge, and the Tower Bar among others. Some of her many joys included polka dancing and traveling. After their retirement they traveled to Europe as well as the Caribbean, Hawaii, and throughout the United States. Lina was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Felisitas Bachicha Montoya; husband James; daughter Mary Montoya; son-in-law Andres Lopez; and siblings, Benjamin Mora, Melchor Mora, Florenio Mora, Claudina Dow, Veronica Sanchez, Agripina Contreras, Adelita Mora, and Carlota Pohl. She is survived by her brother Juan Mora; daughters, Viola Lopez, Dodie Vasquez and husband Venito; 11 grandchildren including Shirley Baros and husband Raymond, Vivian Valencia and husband Tim, Monica Vasquez, Matthew Vasquez, Vanessa Vasquez-Garcia and husband Juan; and many great-grandchildren; She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including her niece Fanny Montoya, who has always been there for her. A special thanks to her loving caretakers Blanca E. Aguilar and Jose Luis Leos, Maria Rubio and Eucharistic Ministers Lucy Trujillo, Lila Marquez, Genevieve Corona and Maria Trujillo who so selflessly minister to the sick and elderly of the parish. O'NEILL -- Joseph W. O'Neill, Sr., 81, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away February 13, 2011. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Westby; sons, Joseph O'Neill Jr. and wife Karen, Brian O'Neill and wife Alma Marrufo; three grandchildren, Robert Westby, Dustin Westby, Alexis O'Neill. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Helen O'Neill. Joseph was born and raised June 9, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later became a member of the New York Police Department serving 20 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. He later moved his family to Albuquerque where he worked with the Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department for 19 years. POCCIA -- Anthony Poccia, 49, a resident of Albuquerque, died with his family at his side, Monday, February 14, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kendall; children, Samantha, Alexandra and Sydney; sisters, Lucille Sacchieri and husband, Joseph and Joan Davies and husband, James, all of New York; nieces and nephew, Cynthia, Pamela, Jaclyn, and James; mother-in-law, Lila Hess of Durango, CO; father-in-law, Jerry Hess and wife, Sandy; brothers-in-law, Chris Hess and wife, Denise and Travis Hess and wife, Erin, all of Colorado; and other relatives and friends. Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Paride and Grace Poccia. He was born on December 15, 1961 in Manhasset, New York and graduated from H. Frank Carey High School in Franklin Square, NY. After graduation, he attended UNM for a year before entering the United States Air Force. While in the USAF, he attended and graduated from Wayland Baptist where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Business. After his honorable discharge, Anthony and Kendall moved to Albuquerque where they raised their family. He also became a successful business owner of Virtual Reality in Albuquerque. Anthony was a very avid hockey player and an animal lover. He was a very generous, caring, sensitive, and loving person. Anthony was a loving and dedicated husband, father of three wonderful young ladies, brother, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. SANCHEZ -- Cipriana Baca Sanchez, a resident of Adelino, NM, peacefully passed away in her home on Monday, February 14, 2011 (on the first anniversary of her sister Carmen's death). She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Vincent de Paul Society in Tome, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilberto Sanchez; two sons, Tomas and Mario; and her parents, Antonio and Elicia Baca. Those left to treasure her many memories are her children, Lorenzo and wife, Gloria Jean, Charly and wife, Theresa, James and wife, Yvonne, Allen and wife, Carolina, Karenjune and husband, Richard, Frances Sanchez-Duran, Martha, David, Raymond and Alice Sanchez. Cipriana was most proud of her 32 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Cipriana was a mother who was strong in her faith and living her life accordingly. VAUGHAN -- James A. "Jim" Vaughan, age 83, a resident of Bosque Farms, passed away on Monday, February 14, 201 in Los Lunas. He was born in Lunenburg County, VA on November 11, 1927 to Arthur Vaughan and Nellie Croft Vaughan. As a young child, Jim moved with his family to Wichita, KS. He lived there until he moved with Dorothy to New Mexico in 1959. In 1958 he met and married Dorothy Wells and they shared a loving, memory filled life together for 53 years. Jim was responsible for overseeing many construction projects throughout the state. He joined the Plumber's Union in April 1951 and retired from Local Union 412 in December 1989. Jim served as the first Water Superintendent in Bosque Farms and oversaw the laying of the initial water lines. He was a member of the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #56 and was a past Worthy Patron of Jessamine Chapter #45 Order of Eastern Star. He was a U.S. Army veteran. His parents; brother; and two sisters preceded Jim in death. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Bosque Farms; son, James R. "Jim" Vaughan and his wife Linda of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Sherrie Gravlee and her husband Charlie of Bosque Farms; brothers, Hugh and his wife Louise, Tom and his wife Anna of Wichita, KS; grandsons, Jason and his wife Shannon and Justin Barnes of Albuquerque. Also surviving Jim are his step-grandchildren, Jennifer Logvin, Christine Roberts, Stephanie Blue and Brandon Gravlee; two great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends. All services will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Peralta Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Rd. Peralta, NM beginning with a viewing at 9:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Masonic Graveside Services and interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery, 1200 W Aragon in Belen.
