ARMIJO -- Luis J. Armijo, 78, passed away June 29, 2009. Luis was born May 26, 1931 in Gabaldon, NM. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War and is preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Celia Armijo, son, Alex L. Armijo, brother, Greg Armijo and sister, Tina Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; children, Mark Armijo, Gilbert Armijo, Gary Armijo, John Armijo, Lori Armijo and Lonnie Marsing, Valerie Garcia and husband, Harold and Elizabeth (Lisa) Crespin and husband, Edward; siblings and their families, Sadie Lucero, Tony Armijo, Selina Gonzales, Alice Vigil, Jimmy Armijo, Leroy Armijo, Joe Armijo, Priscilla Armijo and Nick Armijo Lucero; grandchildren, Alexander Jason Armijo, Chrystal Gonzales, Mark Joseph Armijo, Ysabel Andrea Garcia and Alexandro (Antonio) Garcia; great-grandchildren Jayden Gonzales and baby Madison due in November. BETTIS -- Boyd L. Bettis, passed away peacefully at his home in Moriarty, NM surrounded by his loving family. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Madge Bettis; and brothers Troy and Ronald Bettis. He is survived by his children, Boyd Jason Bettis (Brenda), Jessica Medrano (Alan), Jennifer Saladen (Mike), Boyd Jeff Bettis (Sarah), and Julie Webb (Matt); Pauline Dube, mother of his children and close friend; sisters, Clata Dodd and Carole Kay; brother, Dean Bettis (Carol); nine grandchildren; one great grandchild, expected this fall; many nieces, nephews and numerous relatives and friends. Boyd was born and raised in Canadian, TX. and spent his adult life in New Mexico. He was a longtime resident of Santa Fe and Moriarty. He was a Corporal in the US Army, a First Lieutenant and longtime member of the NM Mounted Patrol, and a member of the Santa Fe Chapter of the Elks Lodge. He owned Boyd's Housing (Art Hay Trailer Sales) since 1972, which he operated with his sons in Santa Fe and Moriarty. He was appointed to the NM Manufactured Housing Commission by Governor Bruce King. He was a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan, loved fishing, hunting, horses, country western dancing, and riding his motorcycle. He was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed. Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., at the Moriarty Church of the Nazarene, 1204 Poplar Street, Moriarty, NM. Interment will be at the family plot at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian, TX. CASTILLO -- Joan Elizabeth Bento Castillo, 52, passed away on June 26, 2009, in a car accident. She was born in 1957 in Prince George County Community Hospital, Cheverly, MD, to John and Theresa Bento. Joan is survived by her husband, Richard Castillo; her daughters, Emily Rose and Jenna Marie; her father, John Bento, of Tucson, AZ; sisters, Madeleine Bento Boyer, of New Orleans, LA, Marian Bento Hopper, and Marcia Bento Bishop, both of Las Cruces, NM. She joins her mother in peace. Joan graduated high school from West Mesa High, in Albuquerque, NM. She attended the University of Albuquerque, University of New Mexico, and college in Corpus Christi, TX. Joan worked as a Surgical Technologist for the New Mexico Orthopedic Associates. She enjoyed volunteering at her daughter's schools, golfing, quilting, and traveling. Her family came first and her home was always open to many friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. CATES -- Anna Lee Cates was born August 10, 1926, in Pullman, West Virginia to Noah and Lorena (Davis) Riggs. Anna Lee passed away on June 25, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque. Anna Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Thayer "Pete" Cates. She is survived by two daughters, Diana Dunbar and Vicki Herrera. Other surviving family members include, son-in-law Len Herrera, Roberta "Red" Martinez, grandchildren and their spouses, Eric & Tania Dunbar, Andrew & Yasmine Dunbar, Michael Higley, Jeffrey Herrera, and Daniele & Alex Lau. Great-grandchildren include Marcus and Avery Dunbar, Gabriel, Daniel and Connor Dunbar, Taryn and Kai Lau along with numerous nieces and nephews. Anna Lee retired as the Chief Deputy of the Supreme Court Clerks Office in Arizona. Anna Lee was an active member in numerous charitable organizations, which included Amaranth and Eastern Star where she held the highest offices attainable in these local organizations. COX -- Melba G. Cox, age 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Cox; parents, Edgar and Martha Stautzenberger; brothers, K.C. and Edgar Stautzenberger, Jr.; and sister, Flo Turek. Melba is survived by her son, Dr. Glendel Cox and wife, Sylvia; granddaughters, Dana Cox and Michelle Anderson, and their husbands; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Melba and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1941. She was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church and later was an active member of Heights First Church of the Nazarene and Del Norte Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for many years and loved playing hymns on the piano even into her 90's. Melba was very active in Bernalillo County Extension Club, and she won many awards for her sewing and cooking. Melba loved her family and church very much and will be greatly missed. The family appreciates the special and loving care given to Melba by Georgia and the staff of Marlor Manor, and Tammy from PHS Hospice. DOTY -- Faith Marie Miller March 6, 1957 - June 26, 2009 The rose that lives its little hour. Is prized beyond the sculpted flower. - Bryant Our rose, Faith Marie Miller Doty has gone home to be with the Lord. Faith is survived by the love of her life, Ernest Doty Sr.; her treasured daughter Courtney Marie Miller; stepchildren Lavinia Brannan and Ernest L. Doty Jr.; her loving sisters, Kathy Rhoades, Dawn Pasternacki, Brenda Romero, Julie Gipson, and their families; fathers Jerald Rhoades, his lovely wife Naty, Roy Howard; her sister of the heart, Pat Schneider; along with a great many more family and friends. Faith was preceded in death by her cherished son Travis Wayne Miller; her dear mother Joan Rhoades; and her sisters Christann Marie Rhoades and Debbie Kalm. Faith's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her and she will be remembered and missed for her independent spirit and her great capacity to love everyone who came into her life. HECKLER -- Roberta S. Heckler, 73, a resident of Bernalillo, NM, passed away on June 28, 2009. Roberta was born on July 1, 1935 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Roberta was preceded in death by her brother Donald; mother Rae; and father Morris Stern. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, George B. Heckler; her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Allen Baca, her daughter Deborah Heckler; and granddaughter Brittany Heckler. Roberta was a graduate of UCLA and was an elementary school teacher. Once she married George they began their life together traveling throughout the world, including living in South America, the Middle East, and Asia. Roberta was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of N.A.M.E., National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts, and enjoyed making and collecting miniatures. She was a great cook and loved traveling with her family. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, her smile and her love of life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends worldwide. HOTOVEC -- Carolyn E. Hotovec, age 67, went to be with her Lord on June 28, 2009 in Albuquerque, She was born on June 3, 1942 to Clarence and Grace June Hotovec in Havelock, IA. Carolyn had a 30+ year career with US West Communications, and retired in 1997. She pursued her education and graduated with top honors with a degree in early childhood development from CNM. Carolyn enjoyed several years working as an educational assistant at Susie Reyes-Marmon Elementary School and was in the process of retiring from APS. She loved children and fostered several. Carolyn will be greatly missed and her memory will always be in our hearts. Carolyn is survived by her son, Gary Hotovec and wife, Dianna, two grandchildren, Megan and Emily Hotovec; her mother, G. JOHNSON -- Glendora Johnson, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968 died Monday, June 29, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Milton; daughter Sheri Glen Schaefer and husband Mike, son Dean and wife Lynn; and four grandchildren, Sarah Kimberly (Jason), Shaun Schaefer (Meghan), Kelly Johnson, and Kristen Lamonde (Cory). Glendora was preceded in death by her parents Shube and Zola Robbins; and sisters Bonnie King and Helen Woods. Glendora and Milton were married in the First Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1948. Glendora worked at Tinker Air Force Field in Oklahoma during WWII. She was a substitute teacher in Santa Fe, and later worked as an electrionics inspector in Albuquerque. Glendora enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing, cooking and doing ceramics. After retiring, Milt & Glen enjoyed traveling, dancing, golfing and playing bridge. Glendora was an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother who loved the Lord and her family with her whole heart and demonstrated that love in her actions. LOVELY -- Violet Lorraine Our beloved mother and grandmother, Violet Lorraine Lovely, 85, of Albuquerque New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2009. Violet was born on October 18, 1924, in Alamosa, CO, the daughter of George E. and Lorraine Sorenson. Violet was a long time resident of Albuquerque. She retired from Sandia Laboratory, and also worked for Strong Thorne Mortuary throughout her life. Violet remained active in the community as a business woman for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents George and Lorraine Sorenson; brother Kenneth Sorenson; sister Eileen Sorenson; daughter Lonnie and son-in-law Tom Abbin; niece Barbara Abbin; daughter-in-law Rosemary McCafferty; and husband, Guy Lovely. She is survived by her sons Eugene McCafferty and William Lance Foderaro; grandchildren, Tommy and Dianne Abbin, Brenda Repichowski, and Stacye Heaton; great-grandchildren, Tracy Abbin, Zachery and Alexandra Abbin, Mina Willemin, and Nicholas and Kristen Repichowski, and constant, loyal companion, Puppet. Violet will always be remembered for her strong will, kind heart, and humanitarian ways. MUNYON -- Neil R. Munyon, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, June 28, 2009. Born March 12, 1925 in Lincoln, NE to George Munyon and E. Grace Smith the middle of three sons. Grew up in Agra, KS, graduating from Agra Rural High School in May of 1943. Served in the U.S. Army Air Force August 1942 through January 1946. Assigned to Air Transport Command serving in New Guinea, Townsville, Australia and Manila, Philippine Islands. After the war he went to work for the Department of Energy as a security guard in Los Alamos, NM. There he met and married Mary Jane Steffens of Minneapolis, MN on May 28, 1949. Mary Jane died February 1984. Survived by seven children, Joan Davis of San Diego, CA, Thomas Munyon and wife, Utahna of Marysville, WA, Elizabeth Sawyer and husband, Daniel of Sacramento, CA, Claire Robertson and husband, Terry of Oceanside, CA, Carolyn Garcia and husband, L. Bert of Albuquerque, Virginia Lupinek and husband, Danny of Henderson, NV and Mark Munyon and wife, Donna of Ventura, CA; brother, Dwaine Munyon and wife, Connie of Lincoln, NE; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Neil moved to Rio Rancho after retiring in 1985. There he met and married Marie Hubbs in 1991. They were together until Marie's passing in January of 2008. Just last September, Neil moved to Albuquerque to be closer to Carolyn and Bert. Neil became a member of the Roman Catholic Church in November of 1950 after having been raised Methodist. Through his generosity he helped support Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Los Alamos, St. Thomas Aquinas in Rio Rancho and had begun to contribute to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 plus years. He was also very generous to all he met in his own very giving way. He will surely be missed by many. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 1, 2009, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 2, 2009, 9:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal SE. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m., at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM. Timothy served two years in the U.S. Navy. He attended the Nazarene Church. Timothy loved adventure and travel but mostly he loved his family. PADILLA -- Apolo Padilla, 77, a resident of Albuquerque died Saturday, June 27, 2009. Apolo was born November 23, 1931, in La Ventana, NM, the first-born son of Atanacio and Juanita Adonelia Padilla, who predeceased him. Apolo is also preceded in death by his brothers Adonaiz and Isidro Padilla. He is survived by his daughter Ruby Chavez and husband Paul; three brothers, Frutoso, Frank and wife Teresa, and Johnny and wife Judy. He is also survived by four sisters, Priscilla Carrillo and husband Lurie, Pauline McMaster and husband Ray, Lucille and Abel Gamboa, Annabelle Carrillo and husband Luis. He is also survived by stepchildren Richard Sanchez and wife Joanne, Ronnie Sanchez, Rita Trujillo and husband Ray, and Ruth Chavez. He was affectionately known as Uncle Polo to his nieces and nephews. His other family members, friends, and many cousins will miss him dearly. A Rosary will be recited at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 9502 4th St NW, on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated following the Rosary at 9:00 a.m. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.

PIERCE -- Lloyd W. Pierce, 76, of Cedar Crest passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009. He was born January 26, 1933 to W.L. and Kathleen Pierce in South Norfolk, Virginia. Lloyd was a Korean War veteran and retired as a Warrant Officer from the United States Army after 20 years of service. He then went to work at the University of New Mexico, and retired as the Physical Plant Director at the Medical School. He was married to Maxine N. Jones on July 1, 1955 in Albuquerque. She preceded him in death on December 27, 1998 after 43 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William D. Pierce. Lloyd is survived by his two sons, Michael and his wife, Brenda and their children Kimberly, Jennifer, and Aaron, and daughter-in-law, Karen, all of Albuquerque; and Ronald and his wife, Suzette, of Cedar Crest, and their children, Valerie, of Denver, Sandi, of Edgewood, Eric, Ryan, and Joey, of Cedar Crest, and Eric Maes, of Belen. Additionally, Lloyd is also survived by a sister, Ollie L. and her husband, Sim Lowe, of Boulder City, Nevada. A celebration of Lloyd's life will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 4109 Eubank N.E. PRESCOTT -- Marion Prescott, 89, a long time Albuquerque resident, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 28, 2009. Marion was born in the Bronx, New York on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1920, the daughter of Irish immigrant parents, Patrick and Nora Spillane. One of four children, Marion survived her brothers, Daniel and Timothy Spillane, and is survived by her sister, Catherine Spillane, of New York City, NY. Marion attended the Mother Cabrini College. At the close of WWII, Marion married Nicholas Prescott and moved to Milwaukee, WI. The marriage produced one son, Michael Prescott, of Houston, TX, who has survived both Nicholas and Marion. Marion and Nicholas retired in 1977 and relocated to Albuquerque, NM. They loved the Land of Enchantment. In 1979, Nicholas passed and Marion became active in the many senior activities of Albuquerque. Her many loves were folk dancing and interacting with the other seniors at the several senior centers. Marion was a resident of the Bear Canyon Independent Living Apartments for ten years. Most recently she moved to the Twin Oaks Assisted Living Residence. Marion had a zest for life and will be missed most by her closes circle of friends, especially Paul Griego and his sons, Paul Jr. and Eric. QUINTANA -- Josephine G. Quintana, 75, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home on June 29, 2009. Mrs. Quintana is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Mr. Horacio Quintana; her children, Jenny Gonzalez and husband, Norosvaldo, Dolores Pohl and companion Anthony Saiz, Eloy Quintana and companion, Norma Ballejos, Monica Quintana, Evelyn Sedillo and husband, Herman, Eli Quintana and companion, Patricia Miranda, and Chris Quintana and wife, Jennifer; her sisters, Alicia Duran, Lucia Gutierrez, Beatrice DeVos and husband, Al, and Lillian Meyers and husband, Don; her brother, Henry Martinez and wife, Mary; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; goddaughter, Patricia Gutierrez; her aunt, Tillie Maes; and many, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Quintana was a member of the Catholic Church; a dedicated member to the Legion of Mary since 1972; past Treasurer for Nuestra Senora de Nuevo Mexico, Comitium; Correspondent for the North Curia as a member of Our Lady of the Divine Mercy, praesidium for the past 12 years and serving as President, Vice President, and Treasurer; member of the Blue Army; member of the Catholic Daughters, Court of St. Joseph #2523 where she served as financial secretary; she was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Joseph Catholic Church and also served the home bound; and a member of the Charismatic movement. Visitation will Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at St. Josephs on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Pl NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Legion of Mary. Final visitation will be Friday, July 3, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at the Church, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Monsignor Lambert Luna, presider. RODGERS -- James Garner Rodgers, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died June 28, 2009 while visiting family in California. He was born October 22, 1930 on a farm near Mena, Arkansas. His childhood home was near Carlsbad, New Mexico, and he moved to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico, where he graduated with a B.A. and then an M.A. degree in education. It was at UNM where he met his wife, Patsy Burke Rodgers. They married in 1950. He began his long career in education as a classroom teacher in 1952, and also taught night school courses for newly arrived immigrants. He was an elementary school principal for two years, served as president of the New Mexico Education Association, and was executive secretary of the Albuquerque Classroom Teachers Association. He then returned to his first love in teaching, the elementary school classroom. His career in education in Albuquerque spanned 35 years. After Jim and Pat's retirement from teaching in 1987, they enjoyed traveling, and were able to visit all of the continents except Antarctica. Jim also spent his adult life deeply involved in church activities. At UNM he was a music team leader at the Baptist Student Union, and later served as music director at Edith Street Baptist Church and then Parkview Baptist Church. For the past 37 years he has been active in many aspects of Del Norte Baptist Church activities. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat; children Karen Grosskopf and her husband, Jack, of Austin, Texas; Dr. Kevin Rodgers and his wife, Dr. Anne Geroski, of Burlington, Vermont; and Kayla Calkins and her husband, Don, of Laguna Niguel, California. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathy Hauser in 2005. Jim was very proud of and greatly enjoyed the company of his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. As he was a teacher in life, he will continue to help educate medical students at the University of California, Irvine through the donation of his remains to their willed body program. A Memorial Service will be held at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery Blvd. NE on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 2 p.m. For those who wish to do so, donations in Jim's name can be made to the Scholarship Fund of Del Norte Baptist Church.

ROJAS -- Betty Marie Rojas, 69, was called home to the Lord on Monday June 29, 2009. Betty was born in Chicago, IL to Oscar and Wilhelmina (Jensen) Kjellin. She was a long time resident of Albuquerque and was a parishioner of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Betty was a proud Registered Nurse and served a lifetime in the medical field. She is preceded in death by her loving parents. Betty is survived by her son William "Bill" M. Rojas and wife Carey; grandchildren Mikal and Rhianna Rojas; and special friends Dana Hill, Roseanne Coleman and Shirley Hight-Baker. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. TAFOYA -- Pete Tafoya, Jr., age 76, a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at his home. Pete loved the outdoors, especially hunting wild game with his boys. He enjoyed farming his own garden. Pete proudly served as a 1st Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Evangelista Tafoya; brothers, Jesus and Jose Tafoya; sisters, Mercy Ellis and Erlinda Griego and his son, Richard Tafoya. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carmen; children, Theresa Romero and husband, George, Charles Tafoya and wife, Yvonne, Peter Tafoya, Julian Tafoya and wife, Joann, Gloria Tafoya and friend, Sanje and Josephine Archuleta and husband, Louie; brothers, Johnny and Martin Tafoya and sisters, Angie Jones and Adela Beck. Pete was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
