ARCHULETA -- Phillip E. Archuleta, 76, long time resident of Albuquerque, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, December 9, 2008. He is survived by his children; sons, John G. Archuleta and Don M. Archuleta and his wife Mary; daughter Lisa M. Marable and her husband Ernie; grandchildren, Tasha, Tyler, Tommy, Nina and Mia; sister Helen Ridley and her husband Richard and brothers, Cecilio Archuleta, Jr. and his wife Maria and Albert Archuleta and his wife Gloria. Phillip was preceded in death by his loving wife Rose. He retired from the United States Federal Government with 35 years of service and proudly served his country with the United States Army. There are not enough words to say what a wonderful father he was to his children, and how loyal and faithful he was to his wife. BALDWIN -- Dora Couch Baldwin, age 99, a resident of Rio Communities in Belen, NM passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. She was a member of Sierra Vista Baptist Church in Rio Communities. Dora was born in Spring City, Pennsylvania. She spent most of her youth in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Dora retired from the Department of Army, Washington, D.C. after 30 years of outstanding service and moved to Belen in 1973. In 1974, she organized the XYZ Club for the purpose of greeting newcomers to the Rio Communities. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Couch Davis Bigger; two sons, John S. Couch, Jr. and Ronald Couch; and two ex-husbands, John S. Couch and George M. Baldwin. Dora is survived by one sister, Mary Salena Deeter of Reading, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Sierra Vista Baptist Church, on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.

BORUNDA -- Ruth Borunda, born September 6, 1948, passed away at age 60 on Sunday, December 7, 2008. She is survived by her loving husband, Santiago Borunda; her children, Tommy, Timmy and Tammi; grandchildren, Thomas, Alex, Destri, Gabby, Isaac, Zach, Payne, Elisa, and Tianna; and four great-grandchildren. Rosary and funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 at St. Therese Catholic Church on 4th Street.

BUNKER -- Merle Eugene Bunker, 85, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, December 4, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Bunker; two sons, Bruce Bunker and wife, Cathy and Paul Bunker and wife, Koleen; one grandson, Ross Bunker; and other relatives and friends. Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Ada Spitler Bunker; and one son, Brian Bunker. He was born on February 8, 1923 in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Union City High School in Union City, IN. Merle attended Indiana University and Purdue University, receiving a PhD in Nuclear Physics. He served in the United States Army during WWII, serving at Oak Ridge on the Manhattan Project. Merle went to work at Los Alamos National Labs, in New Mexico, in 1950 where he worked until his retirement 40 years later. During that time, he established an international reputation in nuclear spectroscopy and high energy nuclear physics, and was the manager of the Los Alamos Omega Canyon Research Reactor. Merle enjoyed a wide range of outdoors activities, including bird watching, gardening, golfing and hiking. He also loved astronomy and woodworking. More than anything, he loved and supported his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. COEN -- Raymond Lewis "Russ" Coen, 80, born December 19, 1927, passed peacefully at home Monday, December 8, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose Marie (Dudy) Coen; daughters, Pamela K. Wigal and husband, Ben, and Janet Marie Coen; grand-daughter, Pamela Marie Aaron; his mother, Laura Coen; and sisters, Rosalee and Carol. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 611 for 55 years, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. DEWEY -- Alpha Lee Smith Dewey, an Albuquerque native, passed away at her Pinetop, Arizona residence after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, December 4, 2008. She was born on August 26, 1952 in Albuquerque to Richard and Olivia (Montoya) Smith. Alpha graduated from Del Norte High School, attended Business College and subsequently worked in several businesses over her career in Albuquerque. She and Ted, her husband of 31 years, lived in several locations in the southwest US following his career path and finally settled in the mountain town of Pinetop, Arizona. Alpha was an animal lover, and was always rescuing new pets of every ilk! To be greeted at her door by a parrot, dog, or cat (or several!) was the expected, not the unusual! Alpha was greatly loved and will be missed intensely. She is survived by her husband Ted of Pinetop, Arizona; her mother, Olivia Smith of Albuquerque; her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Chuck Donahue of Albuquerque, and her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Smith of Shawnee, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Reina Gardner, Maureen Kirby, Christina Peacock, Meghan Donahue, Kelly Williams, Kimberly Smith, and Richie Smith. FREGIA -- Kelly N. Fregia, 52, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kelly was a very caring and compassionate man. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, dad and partner. Kelly retired from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office in 2002 and returned to work for the BCSO Court Services in 2004. He was a dedicated officer and passionate about his career in law enforcement and was very well respected by his peers. He was a true, second generation Dallas Cowboys fan. He is survived by the love of his life and soulmate Stephanie; son, Nick and his companion Kari and her daughter Larissa; dad, Kelly L.; sisters, Minnie Jo and her husband Jeff, LeeAnn and her partner Frank; nieces, Trudy, Lena and her husband Jason; nephew Scott; great-nieces and nephews, Jeffrey, JJ, Madison, Sequoia, Emma and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins and his many loyal brothers and sisters in law enforcement. Kelly was preceded in death by his loving mom, Betty Jo. GALINDRO -- Amada (Amy) Galindro, 78, a resident of Albuquerque passed away December 10, 2008 with her family at her side. Mrs. Galindro is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Pablo Galindro; children, Lucy Baca and husband, James, Pauline Rodriguez and husband, Mike, Steve Galindro and wife, Laura, Dan Galindro, Mike Galindro and wife, Eva, Tony Galindro and wife, Emily, Lorraine Torres, Margaret Dickson and husband, Frank; sisters, Clara Bachicha and husband, Joe, Bennie Fong; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and two on the way; close friend, Wade Young; many other extended family and friends. Mrs. Galindro was a member of the Catholic Church. GALLEGOS -- Manuelita Gallegos, 94 years old, from Vallecitos, New Mexico, went home with the Lord on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. She was born to Ambrosio Martinez and Emilia Maestas all residents of Vallecitos. Mane was preceded in death by her husband Crestino Gallegos; and her two sons Eli and Joe Max Gallegos. She is survived by her family Mary Frances and Carlos Santistevan, Walter Gallegos and Yvonne Gonzales, Lorraine and Sam Baca, Mike and Amanda Gallegos, Sally and Skip Skinner, all from Albuquerque; Benny and Linda Gallegos from Oklahoma; Billy and Elizabeth Gallegos from Flagstaff, AZ, and Charlene and Gary Burriss from Virginia. Mane is also survived by her younger sister Carlotta Jaramillo; and was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. Manuelita dearly loved all of her children and grandchildren, and like any matriarch, enjoyed cooking and caring for all of them. She brought love and laughter and great inspiration to her entire family and to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed. GONZALES -- Gilbert A. Gonzales "Gilly", 86, a lifelong resident of Pecos and Albuquerque, went to be among the angels on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ester; children, Eva Lujan of Albuquerque, Captain Anthony J. Gonzales (USN Retired) and wife, Julie of San Diego, CA, and Angeline Maldonado and husband, Kenneth of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Lisa Guevara, Luke Smith, Loyd Smith and wife, Terri , Markus Lujan, Michael Gonzales, AJ Gonzales, Adriana Maldonado, and Mia Maldonado; great-grandchild, Tessa Hernandez; sister, Mary Darr of Mission Viejo, CA; and numerous extended family and friends including Joyce Armijo, Annabell Silva, Juanita Martinez, Tanya Hernandez, Julie Duran, Pat, Tanya, Mark, and Matthew Maldonado, Theresa Giron-Garcia and John Ullom. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laura E. Smith of Albuquerque; grandson, Jonathan Gonzales; and sister, Sally King of Santa Fe. Born in Pecos to Jose and Guadalupe Gonzales on June 11, 1922, Gilbert was raised in Pecos and Rowe Mesa. In 1940, he joined the CCC in Santa Fe and was stationed at Conchas Dam and then worked in Colorado and Arizona performing defense work. He joined the Navy in 1942 and proudly served during World War II with the Naval Armed Guard located in the South Pacific, Caribbean, North Atlantic, and Mediterranean Seas. After World War II, he married Ester Mondragon of Denver, CO, and worked in Albuquerque as a plumbing and paint contractor. He then joined Civil Services with Sandia Base Engineers only to return back to the Navy to bravely serve in the Korean War while on the USS Los Angeles. Once his service was completed, he returned to Albuquerque to work again with Sandia Base Engineers and paint contracting. He loved spending time with his family and friends, playing his guitar, and was an active member of the VFW Chapter 401 and DAV. In 1975, he retired to Pecos to enjoy his wife, ranch, and animals. He returned to Albuquerque in 2005 to spend his last years surrounded by his family. Gilbert was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandpa. He never met a stranger and had many friends. He was loved and will be greatly missed. The Rosary will be recited Sunday, December 14, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr SW. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday, December 15, 2008, 9:00 a.m., also at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Gino Correa, Celebrant. GUFFEY -- Bruce Edwin Guffey, 82, a resident of NM since 1957, died December 2, 2008 at his home. He was born in Southland, Nebraska on November 7, 1926 to Edwin and Esther Guffey. Although he was born in Nebraska, Guffey was raised in El Paso, Texas where he joined the US Navy and served proudly during WWII. Upon his return he enrolled in the University of Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry. Guffey was a jack of all trades and entrepreneur for awhile until he went to work for Mountain Bell where he retired after 22 years of service in Roswell, Clovis, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. Most importantly, Guffey was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Guffey; eight children; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a member of Toastmasters, an active political advocate, loved outdoor and water sports and lived to play golf. HAMPTON -- Marcelle (Quita) Blakemore October 15, 1928 - December 10, 2008 Marcelle (Quita) Blakemore Hampton died December 10, 2008 in Farmington, New Mexico. Her husband of 28 years, Robert G. Hampton, preceded her in 1995 in Albuquerque. Born to Winston and Esther H. Blakemore on October 15, 1928 in El Paso, Texas. She attended University of Texas El Paso, New Mexico State University, and University of New Mexico. She was a member of PEO sisterhood Chapter AW in Albuquerque and active in numerous organization thoughout her life. She is survived by four daughters, Catherine E. Silva and Marci (Wes) Williams, San Deigo, California; Earleen B. Sullivan and Kelly H. Sullivan and partner Lester Maitlen, Aztec, New Mexico. Three grandchildren are R. Danell (David) Zawaski of Austin, Texas, Mindy B. (Brian) Roman; with great-grandsons, Brock and Brandt, Pueblo, Colorado; Montie Arnold, Olympia, Washington. Her brother-in-law, John L. Maj. Gen. Ret. Martin, resides in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her sister Betty Martin. Niece is Teri Martin; nephew is John L Martin III; and grand-niece, Melissa Martin. She attended St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, Albuquerque and St. John Episcopal Church, Farmington. KELSEY -- Barbara L. Kelsey, age 64 of Albuquerque, NM, was called to be with our Lord, Thursday December 4, 2008. She is survived by her loving husband, David H. Kelsey and her daughter, Elizabeth Kelsey; stepsons, Tom and Kevin Kelsey, their spouses and children. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Judy Kelsey and their children. Her siblings are Joe and Dorothy Penney; Pat and Edna Comiskey; Mary and Hebert Ludwig; Bill and Annie Comiskey; Dorothy Comiskey; Glenn and Brenda Comiskey; Jerry and Kevin Comiskey; Paul and Cynthia Comiskey; and Theresa and Harold O'Hayre. She leaves many nieces and nephews. Barbara was raised in Ennis, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. She was employed by the local Veterans Administration Regional Office from 1974 to 1984. She enjoyed many friends at Duke City Bridge Club. LEHRMAN -- G. Philip Lehrman, PhD., died Thursday, December 11, 2008 after a short illness. Phil was the retired Assistant Dean of the College of Pharmacy at UNM. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Natalie; sons, Philip Lehrman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Paul Lehrman of Farmington, New Mexico and Peter Lehrman of Albuquerque; daughters-in-law, Sherrie Smith and Kathleen Kennedy; and grandchildren, Philip, Jaclyn and Jessica. Phil was born in New York City, and raised in Stratford, Connecticut. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, earned a PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and worked in the pharmaceutical industry before becoming a professor. MCOLASH -- Bryan C. McOlash, age 66, died November 26, 2008 in Albuquerque, after a long battle with lung cancer. Born in Sturgeon Bay, WI, Bryan graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. In 1964 he came to UNM and earned a master's in psychology in 1966. He received a MBA from New Mexico Highlands University. Bryan's interest in education brought him to the Cultural Awareness Center. This federally funded project promoted cultural diversity in the schools and helped teachers see the strengths in students' differences. Bryan's skill in proposal writing also brought hundreds of thousands of education dollars into New Mexico. He later worked in state public school finance. Bryan is survived by his wife, Caroline; and his son Timothy (T.J.). He was preceded in death by his son Bryan, Jr. (Chip). His Funeral will be held on December 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community. METZLER -- Frank Metzler, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2008 surrounded by his children and grandchildren at the Veteran's Hospital in Albuquerque. Herman Francis Metzler was born in Amarillo, TX on Tuesday, June 7, 1921 to Herman J. and Charlotte E. Metzler and was raised in Springerville, AZ. He attended the University of New Mexico from 1938-1943, where he obtained a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD one of the Navy's "Ninety Day Wonders". Frank enlisted in the Navy in 1942, just after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the Pacific Basin as Chief Engineer on the Destroyer USS Hunt, escort to Admiral William Halsey's flagship, the USS Missouri. During the war, Frank was awarded a letter of commendation for his part in the rescue of 422 survivors of the aircraft carrier USS Franklin. In addition to his Commendation decoration, he also wore the American Defense and Asiatic-Pacific ribbons. Mr. Metzler married Shirley E. Bartlett in 1947 and raised a family of ten children. Frank was a licensed Professional Civil Engineer and lifetime member of the N.M. Professional Engineers & Surveyors, employed by the State of New Mexico and several private firms, however, the love of his life was cattle ranching. For 17 years, during the time of its founding, design and construction, Frank managed Paradise Community Services in Paradise Hills. "Pancho", as he was known to some of his close friends, raised cattle and horses in the areas of Bosque and Chama, NM and in the Manzano Mountains south of Albuquerque. Mr. Metzler is survived by his brother, Dr. Charles Metzler of Lubbock, TX; his sisters Alice Flournoy of San Diego, CA and Katherine Millard of Albuquerque; children, Charlotte L., John F., Caroline E., Gerald B., Anne T. Schaub, Thomas J., M. Katy, James A., Ross E., 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and his partner and friend Sara R. Casias. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Eileen; and his dear mother and father, Charlotte Elizabeth and Herman Joseph. Services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Church in Tome, N.M., beginning with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. with the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Tome Cemetery and a reception at the Parish Hall. MURRAY -- Alexander Stewart Murray Sr., 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years, died Thursday, December 11, 2008. He is survived by his spouse, Betty Albyn Murray; his daughter, Melinda Cook of Tijeras, NM; his sons, Alexander Murray Jr. and wife, Diane of St. Charles, IL and Alan Murray of New York, NY; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Marcelo Jara and Constantine Foukas. He was a longstanding member of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church. Alexander was born in 1923 in Lasswade, Scotland. He was a Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy during WW II. SCHWARTZENBERG -- Janis Baca Schwartzenberg, 52, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 near Alamo, NM. She was born March 23, 1956 in Albuquerque, NM to Robert and Frances Baca. Janis taught school for the past 15 years. She taught for nine years in the Socorro Public School District, and the last six years in Alamo. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Donn Schwartzenberg of Alamo; son, Shawn Schwartzenberg and wife, Mel of Socorro, NM; daughter, Christine Schwartzenberg of Socorro; brother, Robert Baca and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Cynthia Gonzales and husband, Sammy of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter, Destiny Sposito of New York; and many other relatives and friends. STEVENS -- Margaret Patricia Stevens, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, passed away on Wednesday December 9, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Margaret was born August 20, 1929 in the town of Watertown, Massachusetts. She graduated from Waltham High School in 1947. Margaret moved to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1948.
