ACEVES -- CARLOS Mr. Carlos Aceves, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home with his nieces at his side on November 13, 2007. Carlos was born in El Paso, TX on April 14, 1914. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Enrique and Luis Aceves; and sisters, Marta Okubo and Angelina Diaz. Carlos owned and operated Casa Blanca Weavers since 1934. He was a WWII veteran serving with the 84th Replacement Battalion in England and France, 1944-1946. He is survived by his sister, Carolina Vargas of Friona, TX and brother, Alfredo Aceves of Denver, CO. He is also survived by his nieces, Theresa Aceves, Esther Luna and husband, Leo, Marti Lesperance/Keller and husband, Walter, all of Albuquerque and their respective immediate families, Mark Chewiwie of San Diego, CA, Annette Nanez and husband, Ruben of Anthony, TX, Monica Chewiwie-Otero and husband, Randy of Albuquerque, Lawrence Luna of Albuquerque, Edward Luna and wife, Sharon of Rio Rancho, John Luna and wife, Samaranthe of Albuquerque, Charles Luna of Tempe, AZ, Len Lesperance and wife, Karen of Mesa, AZ, Matt Lesperance and wife, Michelle of Tijeras, Pam Castillo and husband, Nick of Rio Rancho; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by 12 grand-nephews and -nieces and six great-grand-nieces and -nephews. Uncle will be VERY GREATLY MISSED. Carlos was a life-long member of the San Jose Catholic Church and Choir. ATKIN -- Phyllis M. Atkin, resident of Albuquerque since 1960, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 15, 2007. She was born May 3, 1931 in Columbus, OH to the late Harry and Miriam Mathless. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Martin Atkin; two sons, Gregory and his wife, Kathleen of Albuquerque, Darrell and his wife, Dona of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Hillary Atkin of Santa Monica, CA; six grandchildren, Samuel, Daniel, Evan, Michael, David, and Rebecca Atkin; her brother, Paul Mathless and his wife, Surang, of Washington, D.C; two sisters, Eileen Spector and husband, Donn of Denver, CO, and Barbara Trager and her husband, Tom, of Boulder, CO. She is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Atkin; and by a brother, Leonard Mathless. Phyllis was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be greatly missed. BERNHARDT-RICHARDS -- JoAnn Bernhardt-Richards, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007, after a terminal illness. JoAnn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jack and Louise and her brother, Glenn. She is survived by her husband, Scott Richards; son, Scott; sister, Lynn and husband, Pat and two children; and sister-in-law, Marilyn and four children. JoAnn was born February 2, 1958 in Albuquerque. She worked in the title insurance industry for 30 years. She started as a courthouse searcher and worked her way up to becoming an escrow officer and branch manager. She participated in many activities such as Ryan's Run, Walk For A Cure, and Run For The Zoo. She touched many people's lives and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed by everyone. CARRION-TURRIETTA -- Mary Ann Carrion-Turrietta went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 15, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Oracio "Sana" Turrietta; two sons, Danny Carrion, Richard Carrion Sr. and wife, Rosina Carrion; two grandchildren, Richard F. Carrion Jr., Chasity R. Carrion; brother, Bennie "Boy" Carrion; sister, Viola Moya and husband, Phil Moya; best friend, Clara Ortega and husband, Joe Ortega; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was employed at Herrera Bus Company for 32 years and actively served in the church. She will truly be missed by the friends and family she touched, we will also miss the amazing food you used to prepare. DZIEDZIC -- Juanita M. Dziedzic, age 83, of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at a local hospital. She was born on March 1, 1924 in Ironton, OH to Louis and Ruth Hanshaw. She married Henry R. Dziedzic on January 29, 1944 in Dayton, OH. Mrs. Dziedzic was a member of The Albuquerque Solo Club. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Skillern and her husband, Timothy; her son, Robert Dziedzic, all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Norton of Albuquerque and Betty Hollars of Cookeville, TN. Mrs. Dziedzic was preceded in death by her husband, Henry on October 19, 1992; daughter, Emily Frazier September 10, 2005; son, Ronald Dziedzic on July 23, 2002; two brothers, Robert, Charles and John Hanshaw ; and her sister, Mary Hanshaw. EDGAR -- Mary Alice Edgar, 66, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007. She is survived by her brothers, Doug Edgar and wife, Kathy Oakley, Mike Edgar and wife, Madeline; seven nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored; and many friends. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Bobbie Edgar, formerly of Bethany, LA. She received her BMEd from Webster Collage in St. Louis and her MS from Cardinal Stritch Collage in Milwaukee. She taught music in the Milwaukee Public School system for many years, then moved to Albuquerque to help take care of her mother. She played the piano beautifully and had a heart for ethnic music. ETTINGER -- Wanda Ettinger, 87, of Alamogordo, NM, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007, in Alamogordo. Mrs. Ettinger was born May 15, 1920 in Highland, KS to Glenn Forest and Hazel (Shofstall) Heckman. She was a co-owner of an advertising agency in Cedar Rapids, IA. Upon her retirement she moved to Socorro and then to Alamogordo in 1999. She enjoyed golf - was an excellent putter, loved flower gardening, and her family was very dear to her. Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Maynard and her husband, Kenneth of High Rolls, and Linda Gail Carter and her husband, Jim of Albuquerque; beloved grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister. FISCHER -- Antonia "Toni" H. Fischer, 98, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, November 11, 2007. She was born in Santa Fe, NM to Guadalupe Herrera and Jesusita Sedillos on June 22, 1909. Toni was preceded in death by her husband, Adolpo Fischer. She is survived by her nephew, Tony Herrera, nieces, Tesse Garcia, and Gloria Richards; nephew, Ernie Godsey; nieces, Sandy Krantz, Laura Fay-Salazar, Martha Fischer-Aragon, and Edwina Brown; nephew, Ray Aragon; nieces, Bernice Jensen and DeDe Stutchman; and great-niece, Christine Perea. She and her husband opened and operated Hoffmantown's first Barber and Beauty Salon in 1948. She was an established hair stylist. Toni was a great cook and loved to give dinner parties. GARNER -- Bette Cornett Taylor Garner died November 12, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Marceline, MO on December 17, 1918 to Dr. Craig and Capitola Cornett. In 1934, the Cornetts moved to Artesia, NM where Dr. Cornett was the town's only physician. In 1938, Bette met Kyle (Son) Whitmore Taylor, a rancher from Maljamar, NM on a blind date in Artesia. They married in 1939 in Carlsbad and honeymooned in El Paso, TX. They made their home on the Taylor Ranch in Maljamar, where she lived until Son's death in 1961. She was active in the March of Dimes, 4-H Clubs, NM Cattle Growers Association, Lea County Fair, Lea County Democrats, REA and Lovington School Board. In 1974, she married Lee Garner, the NM Livestock Director under Governor Bruce King and moved to Albuquerque. Lee was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and Japanese prison camps in WWII. In 1977, they attended the "Reunion for Peace" in the Philippine Islands, where Lee was taken prisoner. It was the first time in 35 years after WWII that the widows and survivors had been to the Philippines. It was hosted by President Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos. The Philippine Air Force flew over the crowd and dropped thousands of flowers. After marriage to Lee, Bette lived in The Vineyard in Albuquerque, NM. She was active in PEO Chapter X, All Faiths Receiving Home, a volunteer at Bernalillo County Hospital now UNM Health Sciences Center, Central Methodist Church, and many other organizations. She is survived by a son, A.C. Taylor, wife, Ann Taylor, granddaughter, Ashlee from Albuquerque; granddaughter, Marissa and husband, Tony Jabczenski, and great-granddaughters, Kylie and Taylor from California; daughter, Kyla Thompson and husband, Roger from Albuquerque; grandsons, Taylor and wife, Ashley; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Addison from Denver, CO; and grandson, Brandon from St. Louis, MO. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Los Poblanos, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. MALOUFF -- Michael Malouff, Sr., age 82, passed away in Albuquerque on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. He was born on November 4, 1925 to Michael and Vera Malouff in Trinidad, CO. He was a second generation descendent from Zahle, Lebanon. Michael had a long career as a Mercedes Benz Sales Professional at European Imports of Albuquerque. He held a seat on The Knights of the Round Table as one of the top ten sales associates with Mercedes Benz of North America for 15 years. Michael served his country proudly in WWII for the United States Army. PADILLA -- Mariano F. Padilla (aka Indio), a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 13, 2007 at age 61. He was born in Cuba, NM to Florentino and Amalia Padilla. He is survived by his only son, Lawrence Marianito Padilla Sr. and wife, Angela; and his daughter, Neysa Marzulli and husband, Joseph; his grandchildren, Stephanie Marzulli, Lawrence Padilla Jr., Jonathan Padilla, Danielle Marzulli, Sarah Marzulli, and Maria Padilla; and one great-granddaughter, Rhea Lucero. SIMPSON -- James Edward Simpson, our beloved Jimmy went home to Heaven on Monday, November 12, 2007. Jimmy was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He was born on August 23, 1925 in Globe, AZ and raised in Quemado, NM, relocating to Albuquerque in 1950. He served his country in WWII, stationed in Germany as a radio technician. He received a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from UNM and worked in the field for over 40 years at Sandia Labs. Although Jimmy had a wide variety of interests; dancing with his wife, playing softball well in to his 70s, bowling on a league until just last year and tinkering with anything that needed fixing, his true passion was the Lord and his family. Jimmy would sit at the piano and play hymns, rejoicing as he worshipped through song. He loved the occasions when he was able to gather with his brothers to play his guitar and harmonica, reveling in the music they all loved so much. He adored his wife and children, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Thelma; his first wife, Eva whom he loved dearly; his sister, Lucille; his son, Eugene; and his great-grandson, Aaron. SUITS -- Joan Thatcher Suits of Rio Rancho passed away on November 5, 2007. Born July 31, 1921 in Plainview, TX to Walter and Nell DeJarnatt Thatcher, she graduated from Plainview High School in 1938. Joan married Gordon Suits in 1942 in Chicago where he was stationed in the army. While he served in Europe during the war, she worked at Radio City Music Hall in New York City as a secretary for NBC. After the war the couple lived in Dallas as he continued his career at WFAA radio. They moved to Amarillo Texas in 1950, where Gordon was known on radio and TV as "The Red Robin". Joan had a successful gift shop and later worked as legal secretary to the VP of Shamrock Oil. In 1963 she became office manager for Lawrence Hagy, prominent oil and gas businessman in the Texas Panhandle until her retirement in 1985. In 1968 she served as president of "Desk and Derrick". After retiring, Joan and Gordon moved to Santa Fe and then Rio Rancho, NM in 1992. They spent many happy years roaming the country in their RV, making lasting friendships along the way. She especially enjoyed their cruises during the last decade. Joan will be remembered for her great beauty, graciousness, her wonderful sense of humor, and kindness. Joan was a devoted wife of 64 years; a proud and loving mother and grandmother. She loved her sisters, her nieces and nephews. Joan will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her husband, Gordon died on January 18, 2007. She leaves her daughter, Susan Dodge and husband, Steve; grandson, Brian and wife, Domi; granddaughter, Melissa; sister, Nancy and husband, Earl; and seven nieces and nephews. SWANSON -- Marty (Martha) Swanson, 46, a resident of Albuquerque and later of Tijeras, died Thursday, November 15, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Swanson; daughter, Ali Moore; son, Riley Swanson; mother, Elisa Dawson; brother, Al Dawson and wife, Jane; sister, Margy Gore and husband, Bill; sister, Mary Kelly and husband, Murray; brother, Pat Dawson and wife, Sandra; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Dawson and brother, Tom Dawson. Marty was an occupational therapist who loved working with children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister who had an incredible love of mountain biking and all animals. Marty had a passion for life, an irreverant sense of humor, and a positive impact on all who knew her. She will be terribly missed. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007 at French Mortuary - Lomas Chapel, 10500 Lomas NE. WILKINSON -- Michael, 40, of Mountainair was born March 25, 1967 and passed away on November 13, 2007. He is survived by his mom, Annette Wilkinson; sister, Alberta Wilkinson; aunt, Reba Barth; cousins, Pat, Tessa and Ruben Cisneros, Molly, Robert, Shawn, Kenny and Kraig Wilkinson; special friends, John and Bernadette Roybal and Merle Jones. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at St. Alice Church in Mountainair. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alice.
