BLOOM -- MAURICE M. JR. Ret. Col. Maurice M. Bloom, Jr., a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte Fugate Miller Bloom; son, Allan Maurice Bloom and wife, Leslye of Blacksburg, VA; daughter, Linda Susan Bloom; and granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Burn of Albuquerque; daughter, Phyllis Bloom Stice and husband, Bob; and granddaughter, Mary Kathleen Kierst of Albuquerque. Col. Bloom was born January 29, 1921 in St. Louis, MO to Maurice M. and Beatrice Roberts Bloom. In attendance at this birth were his grandmother, Helen Litherland Roberts and two great-aunts. Colonel Bloom, known better as J.R. served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a lead navigator in the 756th Bomb Squadron, 459th Bomb Group, 304th Wing, 15th Air Force in Italy. His plane was shot down on his 51st mission over Austria in 1944. He spent ten and a half months as a Prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III and Stalag VIIA. When he was liberated in 1945, he returned home to Saegertown, PA to his wife and young son where he entered the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was called up to active duty again in 1950. J.R. did two tours of duty in Germany. He loved to travel and while in Europe he traveled extensively with Char and their three children. J.R. also did a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia with the U.S. Army MAAG where he was named Assistant Chief of Staff, Logistics, and also served at the Pentagon in the Requirements Division. J.R. came to Albuquerque when he was assigned to the Weapons Test Division Headquarters at Sandia Base. J.R. finally retired from the Service in 1969. J.R. was awarded several medals for his outstanding service to the United States Armed Forces including the Prisoner of War Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Department of Defense Joint Service Commendation Medal. When he retired, the G.I. Bill sent him to the University of New Mexico where he majored in History of the Southwest and minored in Anthropology and received his teaching certificate. In 1973, he joined the staff of the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology as a volunteer. J.R. and Char were integral members of the Maxwell Museum Association for many years. As a result of his experience there, J.R. was able to start a new career in 1984 as an appraiser of Southwestern Indian art. He will be greatly missed. BOMMELAERE -- Henry Bommelaere, 90, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006. BRONITSKY -- Hedwig December 22, 1910-October 17, 2006. She was the beloved wife of the late Jacob Bronitsky, MD, and is survived by her children, Ann Admoni and husband, Ezra, Gordon Bronitsky, Ronald Bronitsky; and her grandchildren, Micah Bronitsky, Joshua Bronitsky, and Dan Admoni. She was born in Vienna, Austria, came to the United States in 1935 and moved to New Mexico in 1955. She loved New Mexico and its mountains and all who knew her loved her. Funeral Services will be held at Congregation Albert on Friday, 2:30 p.m. The family will sit shivah at the family home Saturday and Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hadassah or the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.

CHAVEZ -- Elena Chavez, 71, a resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 after a brief illness. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and was employed by the City of Belen. Elena was preceded in death by her parents, Nestor and Delphina Sanchez; sisters, Vicky and JoAnn Sanchez, and Clorinda Chavez; and her brother, Lawrence Sanchez. Also preceding her in death was her companion, Gillie Gonzales. CUEVAS -- Sara Cuevas, 72, passed away October 18, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born August 10, 1934 in Michoacan, Mexico to Mariano and Dolores Avila-Cuevas. Sara is survived by her sons, Felipe Vega, Mauricio Buenrostro and wife, Cristina; daughters; Maria Araceli Rodrigues and husband, Eulalio, Martha Alicia Gutierrez and husband, Jaime; Elva Rocio Rosales and husband, Rodolfo; Yolanda Tafoya, Veronica Buenrostro; Norma A. Cornejo and husband, Manuel; 28 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Sara loved her family and enjoyed her grand- and great-grandchildren immensely. She was always there for her family in any way they needed her. DAVIS -- Gladys M. Davis, 84, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, October 16, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Farris E. Davis of Albuquerque; sons, Penn E. Davis and wife, Linda of Peralta, and Robert Jack Davis and wife, Rosie of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her oldest son, Farris William Davis; and grandsons, Scott Davis and Farris Elmer Davis. Gladys was a longtime member of the Valley Christian Church. She had been active in politics since 1968 and served two terms as Bernalillo County Clerk. Mrs. Davis was a world class cook, homemaker and gardener. She raised three boys and one Marine. DORSO -- RICHARD With his wife Armita, his childhood sweetheart, waiting for him at the gates of heaven, Richard J. Dorso, 72, left this world October 5, 2006 to begin his journey of eternal life in the Kingdom of God. Preceded by his wife Armita in 2001 he is survived by 4 children: sons, Stephen M. Dorso, Richard J.Dorso and his wife Gabriele; daughters Lori M. Perrini and her husband George; Marlene A. Ruiz. Brother Jack Dorso and his wife Carol; sister Audrey Diesslin and her husband Bill; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Born in Hoboken, N.J. moved to Albuquerque, NM in the 40s, Richard served proudly with the New Mexico Air National Guard for over 42 years with a tour in Vietnam. After retirement, and the passing of Armita, Richard moved to Tucson to enjoy his family. Services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2006 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. GREATHOUSE -- Youel Ray Greathouse, 52, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven Monday, October 16, 2006. While dwelling in Gloryland Mr. Greathouse is anticipating the arrival of his wife, Carol Greathouse; son, Youel Greathouse Jr. and wife, Jenise; two daughters, Octavia and husband, Mark Fox, Shavonne and husband, Jeremy Beal; his mother, Geneva Coleman; five sisters: Joycie and husband, Charles Grandberry, Jessie Greathouse, Anna Greathouse, Cynthia Greathouse, and Regina and husband, Tony McCoy; two brothers, Donnie Greathouse and Terry Greathouse; six grandchildren: Dominique Greathouse, Daniel Smith, Jeremiah Beal, RaeChelle Greathouse, Ayanna and Naimah Beal. HARRISON -- Virginia A. Harrison, born September 21, 1949, lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, went to be with our Lord on October 15, 2006. She is survived by her three children, Robert Sanchez and wife, Stella, Melissa Garcia and husband, Thomas, Jennifer Harrison and Kevin Littenberg; two sisters, Jeannette Torrez and husband, Danny, Loretta Gurule and husband, Al. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Amanda Garcia, Alisia Sanchez, James Garcia, and Steven Sanchez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Corrine Harrison. Virginia was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She was adored by her grandchildren who she spoiled with love and affection. Virginia loved to travel which is why she took a job with Southwest Airlines after retirement from APD. Virginia was a wonderful person who always lit up a room when she entered. She was a true friend to all who knew her and she was always willing to help those she loved in any way she could. Her spirit will live on through those whose lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Jojola is survived by one brother, Max; two sisters, Lena and Ricki; two daughters, Carmen Martinez, and Margaret and her husband, David Pacheco; 13 grandchildren, Paul, Mary Lorraine, Angie, Raymond, Rachel, Virginia, Barbara, Irene, Kathy, Ben, Ernest, Jeffery, and Johnny; 28 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. JONES -- J. Wilbur Jones, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, died Monday, October 16, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Wilbur was born February 7, 1912 in Oskaloosa, IA. He moved to Denver, CO at age 14, and did odd jobs until he went to work for his uncle in the sign business at 15th and Colfax. Wilbur moved to Albuquerque in 1938, working for Electrical Products Consolidated from 1938 to 1941. Wilbur was deferred from military service to become Electrical Foreman on National Defense Projects from 1941 to 1943, which included Los Alamos, Walker AFB, Roswell, Bruns Hospital, Santa Fe, Internment Camp at Lordsburg, Camp Roberts at Las Vegas, NM, before returning to the electrical sign business. Wilbur was Electrical Administrator for the state electrical board from 1943 to 1945. From 1945 to 1969 Wilbur was owner/operator of QRS Neon, which later became Electrical Products of New Mexico. Wilbur managed Electrical Products for new owners from 1970 to 1972, then retired. Wilbur was a member of B.P.O.E. #461 for 51 plus years. He was the first president of the Rio Grande Kiwanis Club. He was a 65 year member of I.B.E.W. Wilbur built a beautiful fishing cabin at El Vado Lake in 1939. He also built a home in Kino Bay, Mexico to fish in the winter months. Wilbur built a cabin at Angel Fire, but later sold that cabin to spend winter months at Happy Trails Resort in Surprise, AZ, mostly playing golf and cards. Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys M. Smith Jones in 1980. Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Naydene R. Plath and husband, John L. of Albuquerque; son, James W. Jones, Jr. (Jimmy) and wife, Patti of Escondido, CA; step-daughter, Darlene J. Shannon of Victor, MT; step-son, Ronald E. Smith Jones; traveling companion and friend, Phyllis Yager; niece, Marian Jones Stummp and husband, Victor; numerous other nieces and one nephew; grandchildren, John W. KUETTER -- Barbara Hubbell Kuetter (Bobbie), 95, was reunited with her beloved husband, Bill, on Sunday, October 15, 2006. Born in San Bernardino, CA, Barbara grew up on the Navajo Reservation at Hubbell Trading Posts in Pinon, Nazlini, and Ganado, AZ. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education in Flagstaff and worked for Social Services in Arizona for two years. In 1945 Barbara moved to Albuquerque, where she managed her brother's dental office for the next 35 years. She dedicated her life to her work, her husband, and her deep and abiding faith in God. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Kuetter; parents, Madge and George Hubbell, Sr.; brothers, George P. Hubbell, DDS and Donald Hubbell, Ph.D. and their wives; and nephew, George H. Hubbell. She is survived by her nephew, Donald Hubbell, Jr.; nieces, Lila Miller, Helen Jeanne Chase and Madge Hubbell; and a close-knit group of loyal friends from her senior living community. LANE -- Robert E. Lane (Bob), age 74, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 14, 2006. He is survived by two daughters, Traci Sanchez and husband, Kraig of Albuquerque; and Vicki L. McClelland of AZ; and son, Alan Hixon of CO; three grandchildren, Erica K. McClelland of AZ, Noah A. and Jenna Mari Sanchez of Albuquerque who will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Becky; mother, Callie; daughter, Vicki Graham; and three brothers, Doyle, Melvin, and Bill. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Bob loved to play the slots, talk and was an avid reader, he also enjoyed going to Noah's football games. He prided himself in being a dedicated and loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. Bob was a man with a really large heart who spent his life taking care of the ones he loved and cared for and doing what he thought was best to protect those who did not really know he loved them. Bob is finally where he has wanted to be for some time in the arms of his beloved wife Becky. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. LOCKNER -- Avery A. Lockner, 92, a resident of Bernalillo County since 1981, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006. He was born in upstate New York, lived in Rockland County, NY and retired to Tijeras, NM. LOEFFEL -- Victor C. SANCHEZ -- Beatrice Sanchez, 81, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 22 years, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2006. Beatrice was born May 8, 1925 the daughter of Saturnino and Eufelia Chavez in Magdalena, NM. Beatrice enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and dancing. She was a much loved wife, mother, and grandmother. Beatrice made a friend of everyone. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Juan P. Sanchez of Rio Rancho; two sons, Frank P. SANTISTEVAN -- Mary Santistevan, 78, was born May 17, 1928 in Roy, NM and passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Terri Santistevan, Louise Clayton and husband, Richard of Palm Coast, FL, Veronica Duran and husband, Pete of Rio Rancho, Victoria Otero and husband, Mike of Winslow, AZ, Gloria Santistevan of Jacksonville, FL, and Valerie Thurman of Albuquerque; son, Lawrence Santistevan of Moriarty; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard on June 10, 2004. Mary was a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty. SERNA -- Virginia C. Serna, age 45, passed away at her home, Tuesday, October 17, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Aurora Perea; brother, Felix Perea; and nephew, Manuel Delphino. STAFFORD -- Sherman C. Stafford Sr. died on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Leola Stafford; 11 children, Florence Alexander and husband, Earmer, Sherman Stafford Jr. and wife, Denise, Jo Ann Stafford-Chaney and husband, Billy, Shannon Bouldin and husband, Johnny, Lawrence Woods and partner, Melinda McDonald, Mary Woods, Andra Woods and fiance, Richard Fellner, Donna Stafford and fiance, Joe Kirkland, Charlotte Hinderman, Malcolm Stafford and wife, Felicia, and Benny Brown; 32 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Parks, Florida Woods, Verlene Madsen and husband, Eric; and a host of nieces and nephews. WARDELL -- John W. and Frances L. Wardell, residents of Albuquerque for 20 years, died within 30 days of each other on October 12, 2006 and September 15, 2006 respectively. They are survived by their son, John F. Wardell and wife, Sandra J. Wardell of Helena, MT; grandson, Christopher Wardell who is working in Morocco; and daughter-in-law, Marie Wardell of Alameda, CA. They were preceded in death by their son, James M. Wardell. Mr. Wardell was a retired USAF Lt. Col. He worked for many years designing and constructing cranes at the Cleveland Crane Company in Cleveland, OH, before retiring to Albuquerque. Mrs. Wardell worked for many years in the home. They enjoyed playing golf and hiking together in New Mexico. One of their favorite hiking areas was the Sandia Mountains. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE. ZUCUSKIE -- Eugene W. Zucuskie, 79, of Tamaqua, PA, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Del Webb Memorial Hospital in Sun City West, AZ. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred Hill Zucuskie of Drehersville, PA, currently residing in Sun City West, AZ; son and wife, Dr. Terry G. Zucuskie and Margie Zucuskie of Peoria, AZ. The family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1963 where Eugene worked in Research and Development at Sandia National Laboratories. Hobbies included jewelry and watch repair work. He was an avid member of the Boy Scouts of America acting as a Scoutmaster for Troop 444. Services are to be held at Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Drehersville, PA on Saturday, October 21, 2006.
