CHAVEZ -- Gloria E. Chavez, 78, of Las Vegas, NV passed way on September 19, 2004. She was born on January 27, 1926 in Albuquerque, NM. After her husband, Gabriel A. Chavez passed away in 1962, Gloria went back to school, acquired her business degree at Browning Business College, then worked at First Interstate Bank in the Trust Department until she retired in 1988. She fulfilled her life's dream and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1991. Gloria worked as a school bus aide for handicapped children until the age of 75. She is survived by her four children, Linda Farley and Nancy Chavez of Corona, CA, Gabriel Richard Chavez of Las Vegas, NV and Daniel Chavez of Albuquerque. A memorial mass will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2004. Family and friends are invited to share memories of our precious mom, Gloria, at Westside Community Center immediately following the services.

CORNWELL -- Gloria E. Cornwell, 60, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004. She was born December 1, 1943 in Arizona to the late Harry and Veta (Rice) Stewart. She worked for Mountain States Insurance Group for over 30 years. Gloria is survived by a son, Larry and his wife, Linn‚ of Albuquerque; 2 sisters, Ethel Holyoak and her husband, Grant of Kingman, AZ & Jean Koonce of Winslow, AZ; a brother, Donald Stewart and his wife, Fran of Cheyenne, WY; one grandson, Loren Cornwell of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday 5:30-8:00 p.m., September 24, in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m., also in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, with Rev. Mark L. Stefanov officiating. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. CUNNINGHAM -- Alice M. Cunningham, 85, was born September 2, 1919 and reborn to eternal life on September 21, 2004. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Barker and husband, Daniel of Panama City, FL, Patricia Smith and her husband, Morris of Ontario, OR, James Cunningham and wife, Kathy, Ann Foreman and husband, Jack and Jean Barr all of Albuquerque; 24 loving grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly; and sister, Florence and husband, Jack of Athens, TX. Alice was born in Ellingson, SD, daughter of Louise Arpan and Aloysius Johnson. One of seven children, she attended St. Johns School of Nursing in Rapid City, SD and joined the Army Nurse Corps serving through WWII. She was a nurse in Albuquerque for many years, working at St. Joseph Hospital, VA Hospital, Girl's Welfare and Turquoise Lodge when she retired. Alice was a member of Holy Child Parish in Tijeras, NM for many years and most recently was ministered to by members of Risen Savior Catholic Community. Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 23, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 24, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Fr. Richard Olona, Celebrant. DE LA PORTE -- Terry De La Porte, 57, a management consultant, died Monday, September 20, 2004, at his residence. There will be two services in Terry's remembrance: 3 p.m. Saturday at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake, TX, and 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, Terry asked that each of you vote Republican or make donations to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 6311 Driscoll Avenue, Albuquerque, N.M. 87109, and note in his memory. Terry was born in Burlington, IA, and passed away at his home in Keller, TX with his family by his side after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He moved to Albuquerque, NM, when he was 6 and graduated from Sandia High School where he excelled in both baseball and basketball. He played basketball at the University of New Mexico on a scholarship where he earned his BS and MA degrees. He served at Alamogordo High School as head baseball coach and assistant basketball coach. Terry later served for 12 years as director of personnel and training for McDonald's Restaurants and left in 1980 to create De La Porte & Associates Inc., where he conducted workshops for over 150,000 participants across 42 states and 12 foreign countries. Terry's hobbies included golf, traveling around the world with friends and family, periodically fishing the streams of New Mexico and dressing as Santa each Christmas for family, friends, and neighbors. As a strong Christian leader in home and business, he was loved and admired by his devoted family, friends and clients for his loyalty, generosity, mentoring and sense of humor. His passion was developing and mentoring others to reach their full potential. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 38 years, Pam De La Porte; eldest daughter, Kim Haight and her husband, Mike, and their daughter, Taylor, and grandbaby-to-be, Terralyn Haight; daughter, Dawn Leath and her husband, Blake, and their daughter, Lauren; son, Jason De La Porte and his daughter, Kylar; mother, Evelyn Arterburn and husband, Tex; father, Carl DeLaPorte and wife, Betty; sister, Marca DeLaPorte; sister-in-law, Patty Robinson and husband, Mike; numerous nieces and nephews; and aunt and uncle, Son and Louise Timbrook. FERGUSON -- Alvis H. Ferguson, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. He is now singing in God's heavenly choir. GALLEGOS -- Kathryn Nadine (Lyon) Gallegos departed on September 21, 2004. Nadine was born to Arthur LeRoy Lyon and Katherine R. Gray in Salem, Lea Co, IA on July 6, 1923, and was the youngest of ten children, including Irma Marie, Pauline Gladys, Ralph Bernard, Geneva Eileen, Maxine Eleanor, Marjorie Helen, Miriam Elizabeth, Wilbur H., and Robert Dale. She was raised on the family farm in Mount Pleasant, IA and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1941. Nadine then moved to California where she bore three sons, Michael Lyon Burke (son of first husband William Riley Burke), Patrick Lyon Gallegos and Timothy Lyon Gallegos (sons of second husband George Thomas Gallegos, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM). In 1954 the family moved to Albuquerque, where she bore Gallegos' Kathryn Julia, Thomas Lyon, and Linda Theresa. Nadine began employment in the banking industry while in California. Upon arrival in Albuquerque, she was employed by the First National Bank, and in 1987 retired as Assistant Vice President. She then was able to travel the world with family and friends, contribute to the rearing of grandchildren, and remain active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Albuquerque. She has been a resident of Rio Rancho, NM since 2002. Nadine is remembered as a loving and providing mother and grandmother and as a dedicated wife and friend. She is survived by her brother, Wilbur and sister, Miriam; and by all of her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren are: Lisa Cathleen and Sean Lyon, children of Carol (York) and Michael; Ethan Lyon Arthur, son of Pamela B. (Duran) and Patrick; Tamara Selina, daughter of Patricia (Mullville) and Timothy; Dustin Uriah, Kandace Laurelle, Nathaniel Isaac and Celestine Rochelle, children of William Joseph Robertson Jr. and Kathryn; Lamanda Lyon, daughter of Linda. Her great-grandchildren are Robert Nicholas, Brent Lyon, and Colin George, children of Tyler Gray and Lisa (Burke); Michael Lyon and Abigail Anne, children of Christina (Sundberg) and Sean Burke. Services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Albuquerque West Stake Building at Ellison and Golf Course Rd., NW. GOETHALS -- Bernice Goethals, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, died on Sunday, September 19, 2004. Bernice was born Anne Bernice Corvello on February 8, 1926 in San Francisco, CA. Her family moved to Merced County where she attended Merced High School. From 1943-1947, Bernice attended Mills College in Oakland, CA as a music major. She studied piano under noted composer Darius Mihaud. After college she worked as a concert pianist in San Francisco. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Goethals; and her son, Glenn R. Goethals. She is survived by her daughter, Lee Anne Waldfogle of Cincinnati, OH; daughter-in-law, Pamela Goethals of Bernalillo; grandchildren, Amanda and Cale Goethals; and many friends. Bernice was loved by all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 27, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., SE, Rio Rancho. GOODSON -- Virginia Goodson passed away in a Las Vegas, NV hospital on September 19, 2004. She was born August 26, 1915 in Des Moines, NM to M.G. and Laura Edmondson, who preceded her in death, as did her two sisters, Eileen Johnson and Marian Pinson. She was married to Lawrence Wilkinson from 1932 until 1971, when he preceded her in death. They had lived in the Des Moines area for many years until they moved to Logan, NM in 1959 where they operated a Texaco gas station. She later was married to Claude Goodson who also preceded her in death as of 1989. Virginia was an active member of the Baptist church as well as other organizations in Logan. Virginia will be greatly missed by her daughter, Betty Ann Christopher of Las Vegas, NV; grand-daughter, Alice (Lonnie) Sproul of Logandale, NV; and great-grand-children, Brandon, Lacey, and Kaley Sproul; as well as many nieces and cousins, all of whom loved her very much. HARROD -- Ira E. Harrod, Jr., (Joe) 87, a resident of Albuquerque, NM for the past year, died on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. Harrod was born in Kansas City, MO but soon moved to Burlington, VT where he lived through high school. In 1935, he began his over 30-year association with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY with his enrollment in industrial engineering. He received his B.S. in 1939 and later an M.S. and worked as an engineer in Albany, NY until 1941. Joe joined the Marines in 1941 and was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Pacific theater seeing action in Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He retired from the Marines with the rank of major in 1945. After the war, he returned to engineering, this time in Philadelphia. This was short lived in that two years later he was back at his alma mater joining the staff of the management engineering department in 1947. He remained at RPI until his retirement in 1979. From teaching, he was appointed Assistant Dean of Students in 1952, and Dean of Students in 1957. He was the first Director of Academic Advising in 1976. He received many awards for his work including the Albert Fox Demers Medal, Dean Emeritus of Students in 1984. He was honored for his contribution to the high standards of RPI and his devotion to the improvement of the quality of life at the Institute. Upon retirement, he and his wife Betty moved to Maine where they remained until 2003. During his retirement in Maine, Joe was active in his church, St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Falmouth, as well as in his community. He earned the admiration of his peers by exemplifying the Yankee virtues of his Vermont upbringing. He was an avid hockey enthusiast, loved swimming and sailing and enjoyed other hobbies such as woodworking, history and antiques. He was married for 64 years and devoted to his wife, Betty. Joe is survived by his son, Peter E. Harrod and wife, Anna; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Harrod Clark, James G. Harrod, Rachael Conti, Daniel E. Harrod, and Gabriela Rose Harrod; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty B. Harrod; and eldest son, James C. Harrod. HODGIN -- Joyce Aileen Hodgin, 64, of Willard, NM, passed away September 21, 2004, at her home. She was born to Max and Lorena (Porter) Evans on August 9, 1940, in Corona, NM. Joyce worked for the Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency in Estancia, NM. Joyce was Secretary/Treasurer of the Torrance County Farm and Livestock Bureau. She was a 40 year member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority, served as State President in 1978-1979, and held numerous charter and state offices. She was also on the State Board of the New Mexico Special Olympics, Cystic Fibrosis, and supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles David Hodgin; and three daughters, Sandy and her husband, Robert Davenport of Las Cruces, NM, Cathy and her husband, Darrell Melcher of Ashburn, VA, and Kristy and her husband, Robert Chavarria of Mansfield, TX; her mother, Lorena Mariner; one sister, Athol Miller; and one brother, Robert Evans, all of Las Cruces, NM; four grandchildren, Evan and Jessica Woodard, and Cameron and Lorena Melcher; and four step-grandchildren, Jeremy and Brian Davenport, and Josh and Jordan Melcher. Joyce will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Estancia, NM, on September 25, 2004-10:00 a.m., with Pastor Eric Turner officiating. JARAMILLO -- Mr. Luciano Jaramillo, 70, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on September 21, 2004. MARTINEZ -- Anthony Jim Martinez, Sr., passed away on September 22, 2004. He was born on December 25, 1941 in Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by his sons, Tommy J. O'Rourke and Richard K. O'Rourke. He is survived by his wife, Mary Martinez; sons, Anthony J. Martinez, Jr. and wife, Carol and Jimmy J. Martinez; daughters, Emmy Kitsuse and husband, Edward and Debby L. Victoria was preceded in death by her father, Jessie James McGehee; uncles, David and Gerald Chavez; grandfather, Victor Chavez; grandfather and grandmother, Jessie and Margaret McGehee; aunt, Lorene Pennington; uncle, Carl McGehee; and brother, Terry James McGehee. Victoria is survived by her mother, Susan A. MCKINNEY -- Oliver James McKinney Sr. was born on June 15, 1910 in Huberton, West Virginia, the only child to the late Oscar James and Grace McKinney. His early education was received in Columbus and Mt. Vernon, Ohio where he extinguished himself as an outstanding minority student. He was the first Adventist Afro-American to be inducted into Sigma Kappa Psi. Oliver was given a four year scholarship to Howard University in Washington, D.C. His education was shortened when he met and married Lucy Jeannette Howard on September 7, 1935 in the home of Dr. Eva B. Dykes. Lucy preceded him in death on September 2, 2002. Their marriage continued for 66 years, 11 months, 26 days. He believed in the educational system of the Adventist church. He sent his children to such schools as Washington Union, South Lancaster and Sandia View Academies, as well as, Oakwood, Atlantic, and Southwestern Union Colleges. Oliver moved his family to Albuquerque, NM, in 1957 to seek a better life for them. During the past 48 years he has seen the city grow, a church established from his home, his 10 children grow up and get married, enjoyed 17 grandchildren, and enjoyed 11 great-grandchildren. Oliver has served the Bethesda SDA Church as Sabbath School teacher, head Elder and church Treasurer. Oliver was a very devoted, loving, supporting husband and a caring father who instructed his children to develop qualities that Christ wants His children to have-faith, love virtue, self-control, brotherly kindness, piety, and fortitude. He may have been short in stature, but he was a giant in doing the Lord's bidding, and nurturing his family. He leaves nine to cherish his memory: Oscar (Bertha), Charles Sr. (Jaquelyn), Oliver Jr. (Bonnie), Lucy Parlor, John (Gloria), Elizabeth, Samuel (Brenda), Daniel (deceased), Lavinia Young (Thomas "Chico"), Jerome; two brothers-in-law Warrick Hill (Christine), Willis Hill (Joyce); one sister-in-law, S. MULLER -- Minnie Muller, 99, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2004 of natural causes. Minnie was born on August 11, 1905 in Gans, OK, Indian Territory, the daughter of Dock and Lulajane Corbin. She is survived by her children, daughters Narosonia Spatz and Dorothy Arensdorf of Albuquerque and son, Douglas Muller and wife, Ann of Las Cruces. Ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren also survived her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Muller, sons-in-law, Fritz Arensdorf and Don Spatz, and step-great-grandson, Lance Corporal Shane Stubbendeck. Rudolph and Minnie were married at Vinita, OK on November 17, 1922 and moved in 1926 to a farm in Butler County NE. In 1944, Rudolph and Minnie moved to Bruno NE where they owned and operated a general repair shop and frozen food locker plant. Minnie was active in extension work, Red Cross, and received a 20-year pin in 1956 as a 4-H Club leader. They moved to Albuquerque in 1956 where she was a bookkeeper for several home construction companies. After retirement, Rudolph and Minnie were active in the Gray Gladiators Club, Siglo de Oro-R.V. Club and Rock Hound Club. They enjoyed many winters with camping friends in Welton, AZ. A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE with Rev. Scott Penrod officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. RANFTLE -- Dorothy Ranftle made her transition on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. Born April 4, 1916 in Cold Springs, NY to Earl and Vera Pardee-Hall. She graduated from Yonkers High School in June of 1934. Married Walter J. Ranftle in May of 1941, at Saint John's Church, Long Island City, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 10, 1965 and a sister, Mildred Matheny. She is survived by a son, Robert W. Ranftle and wife, Ann e of Metaire, LA; daughter, Lois B. Ranftle of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Damon, Amy and Chad; great-grandchild, Devon and sister, Edith Anderson of Coca Beach, FL. Dorothy lived in New York for 80 years and worked as an addressograph operator at Bulk Mailing Services in Mt. Vernon, NY. She lived in Albuquerque for eight years and loved the people, scenery and weather. She participated in the La Amistad Senior Citizen Center in Martineztown and Share Your Care Adult Day Care in the North Valley and Bear Canyon. Dorothy has donated (gifted) her body to Medical Sciences at UNM Medical School. ROMERO -- Cristoval C. Romero, 71, passed away at home Wednesday, September 22, 2004, surrounded by his family. Born in Las Nutrias, NM, he lived in Albuquerque and worked many years as a Barber. Cristoval was an officer and an active lifetime member of the D.A.V He was preceded in death by his parents, Filiberto and Mariana Romero, and one brother. Cristoval is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cora Romero; children, Carrie and Chris Romero Jr.; granddaughters, Marissa and Crisann; great-grandson, Efrain Munoz III; two sisters; one brother; other family and friends who loved and will miss him. All services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 550 Atrisco DR. SW., on Friday, September 24, 2004. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Bill Sanchez, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. SANCHEZ -- Eric Sanchez, 24, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 20, 2004. He is survived by his father, Michael E. Sanchez; mother, Marcella A. Sanchez; brother, Christopher M. Sanchez; grandparents, Rebecca Sanchez and Ermelindo and Stella Marquez; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Eric graduated from Rio Rancho High School in 1998. Eric left us before his time, but his impression on our lives will never dwindle. He was passionate about so many things. He was a singer and loved expressing himself on his keyboard. His family and friends knew how much he loved them through all the countless little things he did for them. WATSON -- Jessie Aliene Watson, 82, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Bessie Lee Wyatt and husband, Albert of Gibsonville, NC; Jenny Lynne Morton and husband, Paul of Rio Rancho, NM; son, James Nelson Watson and wife, Sara Nell of Ozark, AL; daughter, Teri Aliene Helton and husband, Tim of Camarillo, CA; sisters, Mary E. Ullock of Bremerton, WA and Bessie E. Burris of Twenty Nine Palms, CA; 14 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was married 56 years when her husband, James L. Watson, passed away in May 2004. Mrs. Watson was active in the North Hills Mobile Home Park and in Sombra de Monte Christian Church. She loved life and particularly enjoyed music, dancing, and cards. Mrs. Watson especially loved corresponding with her friends. She maintained many longtime friendships. Service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. ZAMORA -- Mr. Ignacio (Nash) Zamora, 61, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 22, 2004. Mr. Zamora is the beloved husband of Mrs. Nell New-Zamora. Mr. Zamora is also survived by his two sons, Stephen Zamora and James Zamora; two stepsons, Bill New and Tom New; one brother, Rudy Zamora and Rosie; one sister, Anna Zamora; two grandchildren, Stepanie and Andrew; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Zamora was a Veteran of the Unites States Army and served in Vietnam. A Committal Service with full Military Honors by the Army National Guard will be Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
