Bernice Goethals, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, died on Sunday, September 19, 2004. Bernice was born Anne Bernice Corvello on February 8, 1926 in San Francisco, CA. Her family moved to Merced County where she attended Merced High School. From 1943-1947, Bernice attended Mills College in Oakland, CA as a music major. She studied piano under noted composer Darius Mihaud. After college she worked as a concert pianist in San Francisco. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Goethals; and her son, Glenn R. Goethals. She is survived by her daughter, Lee Anne Waldfogle of Cincinnati, OH; daughter-in-law, Pamela Goethals of Bernalillo; grandchildren, Amanda and Cale Goethals; and many friends. Bernice was loved by all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 27, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., SE, Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. It has been suggested that memorials be made in Bernice's name to the Fountain Gate Children's Home, P.O. Box 184, Alamogordo, NM 88311.
