Baca -- Patricio Baca, 92, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, April 24, 2003. Pat retired from the Albuquerque Police Department as a sergeant with the traffic division in 1972. He then served as Bernalillo County Under sheriff and as a New Mexico State Fair policeman for a few years. Patricio was married to Josephine Sanchez on July 29, 1933. Josephine died on January 8, 2003. They are survived by son, Deacon Rudy Baca and his wife, Juanita; daughter, Patricia Hendren and husband, Philip; the Baca grandchildren, Rudolph Patrick and wife, Mildred, Rodolfo Antonio and wife, Arlene, Carlos Ambrosio and wife, Charlene, Joaquin Francisco and wife, Mindy, Javier Antonio and wife, Beth and Maria Vahtel; the Hendren grandchildren are, Philip Paul, Chris Alan and wife, Stephanie, and Monica Rawson. Pat and Jo were blessed with 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. There are 13 nephews and nieces surviving Pat and Jo. Pat was known for his service to the Albuquerque Police Dept; as an unofficial public relations man when he watched for the safety of schoolchildren at Buena Vista Elementary (now part of TVI) and as a parking enforcement officer where he rode a three-wheeled motorcycle. Sgt. Baca also worked as supervisor of traffic division officers. Pat worked for Springer Transfer Co. as a heavy equipment operator prior to joining A.P.D. Pat and Jo served the Martineztown neighborhood by their active involvement in civic affairs as well as their participation in San Ignacio Catholic Church activities where they assisted as mayordomos in the sixties. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2003 at St. Therese Little Flower Church 300 Mildred Ave NW. Viewing and Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2003 at St. Therese Little Flower Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. Jim Suntum, Celebrant. A committal service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel. Serving as Pallbearers will be Rudolph Patrick Baca, Rodolfo Antonio Baca, Carlos Ambrosio Baca, Joaquin Francisco Baca, Javier Antonio Baca and Christopher Allen Hendren. Benavidez -- Antonio"Tony" Benavidez, 64, left this world peacefully on Thursday evening, April 24, 2003 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was attended by his loving wife, Doreen, family members, and Staff from the UNM Hospice Center. Mr. Benavidez, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, was born in Montoya, New Mexico on March 27, 1939. He served in the United States Army. He spent his working career as a framing and finish carpenter. He was preceded in his passing by his parents, Policiano and Abelina Benavidez; brothers, Paul and Jimmy; and his son, Patrick Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Doreen; sons, Paul Anthony and wife, Cindy of Altus, OK and Shawn and wife, Jennifer of Placitas, NM; two brothers, Carmel"Pancho" and wife, Lorraine and Emiterio of Albuquerque; a sister, Patricia of Tacoma, WA; and his wonderful grandchildren, Jacob, Alysa, Jonathan, and Noah. Benavidez -- Gregorio Benav°dez, 60, a lifetime resident of Casa Colorada passed away on Friday, April 25, 2003 in the loving arms of his family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Gregorio was born on February 23, 1943 to Gaspar and Ursisinia Benav°dez. He served in the Vietnam War and retired from Kirtland Air Force Base after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Tomé. Gregorio was an avid runner, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and fixing cars. Gregorio was preceded in death by his parents. Gaspar and Ursisinia Benav°dez; his brothers, Louie and Richard Benav°dez; and his father-in-law, Tomás Chávez. Edna was cared for with loving attention by Dora Fuchs Porras and Elmer Jose Fuchs, which are in-laws of her grandson, Sean Paul Lemons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lemons in 2002; her son, Edwin Daniel Lemons in 1994; her daughter, Kathleen Lemons in 1970; and her great-granddaughter, Crystal Lee Joyner in 1998. She is survived by her two brothers, Raymond Chavez of Arizona and Alfoneso Chavez of New Mexico; her two sisters, Natalie Willis and Felicia Baxter both of California; her daughter, Edna Mary Lemons-Henson and husband, Fred of Rio Rancho, NM; her grandchildren, Roy Charles Lemons and companion, Barbara Boeske of Belen; Cynthia Lee Lemons of Florida; Sean Paul Lemons and wife, Margarita of Belen; and Amey Mary Reinicke and husband, William III of Albuquerque, NM; her great-grandchildren, Sabrina Archuleta, Alisha Mary Joyner, Tracy Renee Joyner, Christina Margarita Lemons, Christian Alexander Lemons, Tiffany Rochelle Lemons, William Horton Reinicke IV, and Chadwick Aaron Reinicke; and her great, great grandchildren, Anthony and Elishia Archuleta. Dowell -- Uley¯Pappy¯ Dowell, age 79, a resident of Lake Sumner, NM for many years died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in an automobile accident at Lake Sumner State Park. Pappy was born April 11, 1924 in Eldon, Iowa to the home of Uley Dewite Dowell Sr. and the former Grace Howard. He served over 22 years in the United States Navy during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a longtime member and Post Commander of American Legion Post #29 at Lake Sumner, a member of the National Bass Club, North American Fishing Association; Good Sam's Club; National Rifle Assn.; and a member of the Eagles Club in Roswell and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at Fort Sumner. Pappy was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Georgia Jones on November 16, 2002; a brother, Irish Dowell and a sister, Goldie Chapman. Survivors include a son, Marvin Dowell of McAlester, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Christopher T. Dowell of Alameda, CA; and Benjamin M. Dowell of Maryland. Cremation has taken place. Doyle -- Philip G. Doyle, 72, a 10 year resident of Rio Rancho, died April 24, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Doyle of Rio Rancho, NM; son, John T. Doyle and wife, Barbara of Hudson, NH; grandsons, Patrick J. and Ryan C. Doyle; sister, Mary Jane E. McArthur and husband, Earl of Cohasset, MA; and several other family members. Philip grew up in Woodland, ME before moving to Chelmsford, MA where they lived for 30 years. Espinoza -- Molly Elizabeth Espinoza, 17, a resident of Albuquerque since 1987, died suddenly, Thursday, April 24, 2003. She is survived by her father, Brent F. Espinoza of Los Alamos; her mother, Barbara Snow Ghahate and husband, Jon; sister, Jennifer Espinoza; brother, Ian Ghahate; sister, Jonnie Lee Ghahate, all of Albuquerque; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Fidella Espinoza of Albuquerque; maternal grandfather, Dr. Lawrence Snow and wife, Susan of Cheraw, SC; maternal grandmother, Patricia and husband, Dr. Joseph Workman of Durham, NC; great-grandmother, Helen Wilsey of Pinehurst, NC; aunts and uncles, Cathy and Fred, Bennette and Jon, Carla, and Larry; cousins, Cara, Mike and Brittany; special friends, Jill Schaefer and Joyce Elliott; her special dog, Dixie; and many special friends and teachers from Manzano High School, from Los Alamos and from Colorado Springs, CO. Gallegos -- Mary Ester Gallegos, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, formally of Moriarty, NM, passed away Friday April 25, 2003. She was born January 21, 1911, to Felipe and Flora (Torrez) Alderete in Punte De Agua, NM. She was married to her late husband, Fidel Gallegos November 5, 1932 and they lived in Moriarty until his passing in 1993. She is survived by their daughters, Rita White of Albuquerque, Josie Padilla and her husband, Ramon of Albuquerque, Mollie Candelaria and her husband, Robert of Tucson, AZ, also surviving her are her 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Francis Perea, two grandchildren, Stephen and Nicholas Candelaria and her son-in-law, David White. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, she will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Greenfield -- Lydia Louise Beatty Greenfield passed away on April 21, 2003 as a result of an accident suffered while traveling in Southeast Asia. Lydia was 77 years old. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Paul V. Greenfield; daughter, Patricia Greenfield West; sons, Paul V. Greenfield, Jr., John A. Greenfield and Alan R. Greenfield; granddaughter, Kate West; sisters, Pat Tyler and Eleanor McNamee; brother, John Beatty, and many nieces and nephews. Born July 23, 1925 in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Lydia's family moved from Pennsylvania to California when she was 14. She graduated from the University of California at Berkley in 1947, and taught elementary school prior to her marriage to Paul Greenfield in 1953. Lydia touched the lives of countless friends and family members in the many places she called home during her lifetime, including Mt. Shasta, CA, Midland, MI, Newark, OH, Cleveland, OH and Albuquerque, NM. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and exceptionally positive outlook on life, her interminable enthusiasm, an endless love for travel and adventure, and the fact that she and her adoring husband Paul never had an argument. Griego -- Esibia C. Griego, 82, went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2003 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso Griego and a son, Tony Martinez. She is survived by her son, Charles Martinez and wife Sharon; five grandchildren, Lloyd Martinez, Prescilla Tapia, Gilbert Martinez, Tanya Martinez and Naomi Chaudahuri; and eight great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. (Louie) Gutierrez,79, formerly of Las Vegas, NM, passed away in Albuquerque on April 22, 2003.¯ He was born in Dilia, NM to Francisco and Adela Sanchez Gutierrez.¯ Louie was a WW II veteran.¯ He married Helen Crespin of Chaperito on June 11, 1953 and they made thier¯home in Hammond, IN where he worked as a crane operator for Inland Steel Mills for 30 years, and he retired in 1978 and moved back to Las Vegas, NM where he resided until recently when he became ill.¯ Louie¯ was a long time member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen, of 32 years, on May 26, 1985; his parents, and¯three brothers, Arthur, Tony, and Mike.¯ He is survived by his second wife, Hazel, of Las Vegas, NM;¯daughter, Terri Grimm and husband, Jim of Wichita, KS; sisters, Evelyn Lovato and husband, Tony of Rio Rancho, Margaret Page and husband, Abel of Albuquerque; brothers, Raymond and wife, Annabelle of Santa Fe, Benito and wife, Carmen of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Anna Gutierrez of Rio Rancho, Loretta Gutierrez of Seattle, WA, and Ramona Gutierrez of Santa Rosa, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Rose Montoya of Las Vegas; also many nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends that all loved him very much and will miss him. Funeral services are in Las Vegas, NM, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home.¯ A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas.¯ The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 28, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Hamilton -- Donald Raymond Hamilton passed away at home early Friday, April 25, 2003. 2-19-29 - ¯4-25-03 Oldest son of Raymond Whittier Hamilton and Elizabeth Slattery Hamilton Born in Denver Colorado. Moved to California when a youth, graduated from Topeka High School, Topeka, Kansas. After a 2 year tour of duty with U. S. Army, Don returned to Topeka and married Virginia Woodward on February 20, 1954. After graduation from Washburn University with a BA in Accounting, Don was employed by Sears Roebuck and, transferred to Santa Fe in 1964 as controller of the downtown Sears store. Don's last 25 years of employment were with the New Mexico State Corporation Commission, retiring in December 1990.¯The last few years he helped distribute commodities for the Senior Centers. Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia, of 49 years, four adored children - Cynthia Mae Chambers and husband, Robert of Colorado Springs, CO, Jean Elizabeth Taylor and husband, Michael of Santa Fe, Douglas Wade and wife, Libby Butler Hamilton of Las Cruces, and Stuart Raymond Hamilton and AnnMarie Lynch of Santa Fe.¯The lights of his life were his wife, children, their spouses and his grandchildren: Chad, Tiffany, Scott, and Kimberly Chambers; Eva, Danielle, Sarah, and Michael Taylor; and Derrek and Amelia Hamilton. He also leaves his brothers, Theodore Hamilton and wife, Patricia of Las Vegas, NV and Patrick Hamilton of Alba, TX.; and many nieces and nephews scattered all over the country. Donald was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Kitchen -- George is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Nancy Kitchen of Rio Rancho, NM, his son Thomas Kitchen of Bryan, TX, his daughter Kathleen Champignon of Bridgewater, NJ, three grandchildren, Jay of Albuquerque, NM, and Chris and David of Bridgewater, NJ, brother John K. Kitchen of Bedminster, NJ, Edward F. Kitchen of Jeffersonton, VA and his sister Joanne C. Murray of Barnegat Light, NJ. George is a graduate of Holy Spirit High School, Atlantic City, NJ Class of 1942. He attended Drexel Institute of Technology. His undergraduate work was interrupted by World War II where George served in the Army's 103rd Cactus¯ Infantry Division. George received four bronze stars for service in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Rome-Arno, and Southern France campaigns. He returned to finish his college studies at Drexel and Penn State Universities earning degrees in Petroleum and Chemical Engineering. George was employed by Atlantic Refining in Philadelphia, PA from 1948 to 1955. He then became supervisor of the Fuels and Lubrication research at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ until 1982. At his retirement, he was recognized for having introduced new lubricants and lubricant practices that improved the reliability of an enormous variety of equipment. He was a pioneer in using solid lubricants, especially PTFE and molybdenum disulfide for applications ranging from the Telstar antenna to undersea systems. Of particular significance, were his studies on the stabilization of stored fuels, which have made perpetual storage possible. George retired to Rio Rancho where he co-founded International Lubrication and Fuel Consultants Inc. with his wife Nancy in July 1982 to continue working in his field. The company has developed several patents relating to fuel additives and testing procedures He was a lifetime member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers. In 1966 he received this society's Wilber Deutsch Memorial Award and served as President from 1986 to 1987. He also was an active member of ASTM International for over 30 years and was currently working on cathodic protection standards for underground storage tanks. George was a vibrant community leader and servant who led by example. He was a historian and board member of the Telephone Pioneer Museum of New Mexico since its inception in downtown Albuquerque in 1997. The Museum, a project of retirees from AT&T, US West, and Lucent Technologies, celebrates the history of the telephone communications industry. As a member of the Lions Club, George prominently served the organization in many capacities. His Lions career started when he joined the Albuquerque Northwest Lions Club, which today is the Rio Rancho Host Club. He was president from 1987-1988. He was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1991 for his outstanding humanitarian services. He served as 40N District Governor, 1997-1998 and the state Multiple Council Chairman 2000-2001. During his term as Governor he ran the first Charity Ball in Rio Rancho to benefit the New Mexico Lions Eye Foundation. He department and Lions to bring Diabetes testing along with eye screening to rural areas of New Mexico. George was a member of the Edelweiss AM, the Rio Grande German American Club. Through the year he brought many of Rio Rancho's charity organizations together for the fundraising Oktoberfest celebrations. George was also a member of the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce and the Rio Rancho Chamisa Hills Country Club. October 2002, he returned to Atlantic City to attend his 60th class reunion. He enjoyed spending time with his schoolmates. In April 2003 he had an opportunity to say his final goodbyes to his fellow Lions, as he was MC at the 40N Convention in Rio Rancho. He was hospitalized on April 14th and died in the hospital of heart failure. We who knew him well will miss him a lot. Mass of Christian burial is Monday, April 28, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Krug -- Barbara Ann, passed away April 24, 2003 at the age of 75. She was the third child born to Lucien and Novella Hoch on May 8, 1927 in Las Vegas, NM.¯ She graduated from East Las Vegas High in 1944 and attended Colorado Woman's College in Denver for two years. Barbara, then, attended the California Medical School of Technology and graduated as a Medical Technician. After moving back to Albuquerque, Barbara met her future husband, Roland W. Krug, in September of 1947 at the Paradise Valley Club. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, NM on June 10, 1949. Barbara was married to Roland for 53 years, raising four children. She is survived by her husband, Roland, and sister, Marion N. Smith, and was preceded in death by her brother, David H. Hoch.¯ She is also survived by her children, Kristine K. Kline and husband, Edward, Marc S. Krug, and wife, Yue Zhang, Gary D. Krug, and Laura D. Krug and fiance, Gary Mathews.¯Also surviving are her four grandchildren, Kinnan L. Kline, Jared N. Kline and wife, Karen, Geoffery J. Krug, and Holly X. Krug; and one great-grandchild, Castor J. Kline. Barbara immensely enjoyed cheering on the UNM Lobo basketball team and completing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She also stayed abreast of current news, especially headline trials, and enjoyed debating national, state, and local politics. Maio -- Charles Louis Maio (Charlie) of El Paso, Texas passed away on April 24, 2003, after a short illness in Del Sol Hospital with wife, Sally and Father James Hall at his bedside. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on February 27, 1938. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Mr. Maio is preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Cleo Maio, sister, Lorelle (Lori Dee) Maio and daughter, Terry Maio. He is survived by his wife, Sally of El Paso and his faithful companion, BEHR. Sons, Rick Francis of El Paso, Scott Francis of Clint, TX and daughter, Tammy Minot of Tucson, AZ. Sisters, Betty Painter of Albuquerque, NM and Beverly Dysart of Suisun, CA. 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM and attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Along with his wife Sally, he was the owner and operator of Office Liquidators II in El Paso. He was a member of the BBB, El Paso Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He was active in many local golf tournaments and known by all as an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Mallory -- Robert A. Mallory, 92, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in Albuquerque, his home for 7 years. He was born near Hampton, Iowa on September 29, 1910. He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, served in the U.S. Army through WWII and the Korean War. He and his wife, Dayle, owned a bookshop in Grand Rapids, MI for 23 years. He held a Life Master in duplicate bridge, won three international awards for hybridizing iris and wrote poetry. He will be missed by his family and many friends for his unique humor, curiosity, and interest in everybody he met. He is precedeased by his wife, Dayle, daughter, Robin Hoth, and sister, Irene Wolff. Pearson -- Linda Gail Schlenker Pearson of Bernalillo was born August 5, 1946 in Portales, NM and she passed away in Albuquerque on Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Linda is survived by her husband, William E."Bill" Pearson of the Bernalillo home; and three children, Angela and husband, Cliff and their children, Coady, Cliff and Ruby of Durango, CO, Aaron T. Price -- Lt. Col. Robert H. Price (USAF retired), 83, born October 20, 1919 in Lawrence, Kansas, died April 23, 2003 in Chandler, Arizona. A Funeral Service will be held at the Berardinelli Funeral Home in Santa Fe, New Mexico at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2003 followed by an Interment Service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Mr. Price graduated from the University of Kansas in 1941 and spent the next 27 years in the Army Air Corps/U. S. Air Force, starting as a Glider Pilot in World War II where he earned distinction as the only Glider Pilot to destroy a German anti-aircraft gun emplacement by landing his glider on top of the gunpit while it was attempting to shoot down other aircraft in his formation. He later transitioned to powered flight, piloting various Air Force aircraft to include a combat tour flying the B-26 aircraft in the Korean War. His military decorations include the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal. He retired from the military in 1968 as a Lieutenant Colonel and spent the next 25 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico followed by ten years in Chandler, Arizona. He was married for over 48 years to Ruth (Rodgers) Price who preceded him in death in 1990. They raised two sons, Colonel Robert H. Price Jr.(USAF retired) of Anchorage, Alaska and Commander Stephen R. Price (USN retired) of Silverdale, Washington; grandchildren, are Susan Davis of Colorado Springs, Major Robert H. Price III of Anchorage, and Eric Price of Silverdale, Washington; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Brendan, Evan, and Megan Davis with a fifth great-grandson, Nicholas Robert Price due in June. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and raised his sons accordingly. Several times he was the Southwestern Field Archery Champion and New Mexico State Field Archery Champion and enjoyed any chance he could get to go hunting or fishing, whether in New Mexico with friends or Alaska or Washington with his sons and grandsons. He spent his final years in Chandler, Arizona with his wife, Geri, who made a wonderful home for him in his later years. He will be missed by his many family and friends and remembered as a kind man, a staunch patriot, and someone with unwaivering convictions. Richardson -- Juanita Raquel Torres Richardson was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 24, 1948.¯ She went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2003, after a courageous struggle with cancer.¯ Juanita graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1966. She attended the University of New Mexico, graduating with a BS in Elementary Education/Special Education in 1970. She started her teaching career in Belen, New Mexico. She later taught in San Jose, California; Pasadena, Texas; and Albuquerque. Her father, Sinesio álvarez Torres and sister, Thelia Patricia, preceded Juanita in death.¯ She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Jim, and her loving children Angela and Tony.¯ Other family members include: her mother, Angelina Calderon Torres; her brothers, Carlos and wife, Patty; Sinesio (Snip) and wife, Mary Helen; Emilio and wife, Midge; sisters, Rose Mary (Redd) Eakin and husband, Randy; and Jo-An Torres and husband, Dean Dye.¯ Many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews were also blessed by being a part of her family. Juanita was a devoted wife and mother. She provided her husband and children with unwavering support and love.¯She will be remembered for her kindness, loving nature, unselfishness, nurturing spirit and abiding strength through her faith in the Lord.¯ She always had a humorous story; she loved to sing; and delighted in enchanting children with story telling, often with her mom.¯ She was known for enhancing her stories and school announcements with appropriate accents.¯ She never met a cat she didn¯t love. Those who knew Juanita felt truly blessed to have her in their lives. The family extends deepest gratitude to the American Cancer Society, the New Mexico Cancer Center, and the compassionate caregivers in the Presbyterian Hospital Oncology Ward and to her supportive neighbors in Tinnin Farms. A Rosary Vigil Service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, at 7:00 pm at Risen Savior Catholic Community Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd., NE (just south of Paseo del Norte).¯ A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 10:00 am at Risen Savior Catholic Community Church. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society¯ ABQ Chapter, 5800 Lomas Blvd. NE, 87108, designated for the ¯Juanita's Joy¯ fund.¯ Your living memorial to this beautiful human being will be used to continue for people affected by cancer, what brought Juanita great joy throughout her life¯helping others to have a better life.

Thomas -- Harold B.Thomas, 81, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2003. Harold was born December 20, 1921 the son of Burton and Nora West Thomas in Mosquero, New Mexico. (Harold served in the US Army during WW II.)¯ He had worked in Quality Control with the Sandia National Laboratories for 33 years before retiring. Harold was an avid sportsman, loved fishing, baseball, softball, and basketball. He had been a pitcher, and had the nick name of"Speed". Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Velma, in July of 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Rogers; one brother, Elton Thomas and wife Gale; grandson, Michael Rogers and wife Taasha; two great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Hunter; also numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express a special"Thank You" to Dr. Matthew Montoya, for his pulmonary special care and his great sense of humor. It has been suggested that memorials be made in Harold's name to the American Lung Association for Fibrosis Research, 216 Truman NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Vales -- Helen D. Vales, born August 20, 1919 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Euna and J.P. Holder passed away in her sleep on April 23, 2003 at the family home. Survivors include her husband, Cdr. (Ret). Robert F. Vales of the family home; children, Sue of Jacksonville, FL, Lynday Eddy and Ron of Charlotte, NC, Michael and Jackie of Minneapolis, MN, Sally of Albuquerque, NM, Frank and Laura of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Carolyn Hopkins of Holiday, FL; grandchildren, Laura, Doug, Mark, Donna, Ron Jr., William and Steven, Laura, Alicia, Lucas, Roberto and David; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Brogan, Tyler, Phillip, Courtney, Brittany and Thomas. Helen was a graduate of the Canal Zone College; She was a devoted Navy wife who made homes in many parts of the world. A lover of fine wines, avid bridge player, silver life master, world traveler and an outstanding gourmet cook. Helen delivered meals on wheels for 17 years, was a member of the Kirtland AFB Chapel, and the Rio Grande Kennel Club and. Memorial Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2003 in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary with Chaplain Amy Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Whitfield -- Alice Hansen Whitfield August 20, 1912 - April 21, 2003Alice Whitfield, 90 years young. She was a resident of Albuquerque since her marriage to James H. Whitfield. She is survived by James Alan Whitfield of Kino Bay, Mexico, Chuck and Kay Whitfield of Silver City, NM, Bill and Charlotte Whitfield of El Paso; five granddaughters, Cindy, Christy, Aimee, Amber, Autumn; two great-grandchildren, Anabella and Hayden.
