Bender -- Mary Louise (Reeser) Bender was born on January 9, 1925 in Joplin, MO to Malcom and Mary Reeser. She moved to Albuquerque in 1969 with her family. She sang with the Symphony Chorus, the Albuquerque Civic Chorus, and in the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church. Her great loves in her life were: her family, classical music (especially opera), her roses, and baseball (especially her Chicago Cubs). She volunteered her time, first at the UNM Hospital newborn nursery, and later at the St. Joseph's Hospital Northeast. Mary died on April 30th surrounded by her family. She is survived by Lynn Bender; her sons, Mark Bender and wife, Scone of Newport, Washington, Gary Bender and wife, Susan of Tijeras, NM; daughters, Marilyn Large and husband, James of Albuquerque, and Rita Garcia and husband, Victor of Albuquerque. Her grandchildren are Willow Fodor and husband, Luke of Chicago, IL, Esther Bender of Spokane, WA, Colin, Nathan and Scott Large of Albuquerque, Kari Garcia of Albuquerque, and Whitney Bender of Tijeras, NM. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Carmain and husband, Harold of Escondido, CA, and Dorothy Thomas of Mesquite, TX. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bernstein -- Estelle Bernstein, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1933, died Sunday, April 30, 2000. She is survived by her son, Mel L. Bernstein and wife, Dorothy of Albuquerque; daughter, Fernie Caplan and husband, Reuben of Albuquerque; 9 grandchildren, Jeff Bernstein, Ellen Bernstein, Dana Pulliam and husband, Randy, Rachel Bernstein and husband, Richard Waugh, Susanna May and husband, Don, Mindy Caplan, Connie Wareham and husband, Mark, Susan Caplan, and Pamela Henderson and husband, Michael; and 7 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bernstein was a member of Congregation Albert B?Nai Israel. She was past president of B?Nai Isreal Sisterhood. Mrs. Bernstein, along with her family, were owners of the Central Supermarket for many years here in Albuquerque. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2000, 11:30 a.m., at Fairview Memorial Park, B'Nai Israel section, with Rabbi Isacc Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman officiating. Brown -- Rev. Richard H. (Dick) Brown, 88, of Regina, NM, passed over on April 29, 2000, at the Albuquerque Manor Nursing Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth, daughter Lynda Carol both of Regina, two sisters, Ava Steiner of New Brighton, PA, Elizabeth Morse of Santa Cruz, CA, two brothers, Elvett Brown of Wenatchee, WA, Thomas Clio (T.C.) Brown of Clackamas, OR, daughter-in-law Lucy Daniels and husband Mike, grandson Nick Brown and wife Cindy, Grandson Justin Daniels, all of Albuquerque, NM, and grand-daughter Ellen Lockhart of Flint, TX, great-grandchildren, Curtis, Cody, and Madisen Brown of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his sister Eva Brown, parents Laura M. and T. Clio Brown, son Richard Harold Brown Jr., and brother Oscar N. Brown. Richard was born in Mocane, Oklahoma, on July 16, 1911, and moved with his family to the Willamet Valley in Oregon in his early teen years. There he attended Portland Bible Institute in Portland, Oregon, where he met his beloved wife, Ruth Scoville, an R.N. They were married on December 22, 1940, in Medford, Oregon. Together they pastored Quaker (Friends) churches in Central Washington, moved to League City, TX, on to Ramona, OK. They were called to Cleveland, Ohio, where Richard attended Cleveland Bible Institute, earning a degree in Theology. Both their children were born during this time. They moved to the Midwest, where they continued to serve as pastors for rural community Quaker churches. They served as missionaries on the Navajo Indian Reservation at Rough Rock, AZ and also served on many Boards of the Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting of Friends. Richard enjoyed his retirement by rockhounding with the club at Palo Duro Senior Center, lapidary work and silver smithing, volunteering for many years at the International Balloon Fiesta. He was also on the advisory board at Palo Duro, a Grey Gladiator and Rent-a-Granny, volunteer, and an accomplished finish carpenter. Richard was dearly loved and will be missed by his family, friends, and those he served in his 50 years of ministry. Cremation will take place Monday, May 1,2000 and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at 5 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, with Pastor Terry Ash officiating. Coffman -- Esther Mae Coffman, 78, mother to Carol A. Bell, Linda J. Stephens, John A. Coffman and Judy L. Hauger passed from this world Saturday, April 29, 2000. She was cradled in the loving arms of her children as she left. Besides her children, who were her life, she is survived by her sons-in-law, G. Eric Bell and Michael Hauger of Albuquerque; her daughter-in-law, Terri Horton Coffman of Edgewood, NM; and grandchildren: Stephanie John Spray, Jennifer Stephens, Casey Coffman, Kimberly Coffman, and Alex Hauger; and by great-grandson, Elijah Spray; her sister, Doris Flowers of Oklahoma and dear friend, Diana Fein. Her husband, Abram L."Johnny", preceded her death in 1976. She and her husband packed their four children in their '48 Mercury and moved to Albuquerque from Long Beach, California in 1956. There was never any question that their children would have the education that was not afforded to them. Thus, they choose Albuquerque because of the University. She loved learning. She worked for many years at Sandia National Laboratories, retiring in 1988. She developed COPD shortly after retirement and spent the last years of her life batting the disease. She never complained. She moved to Sun Bridge Mission Manor in July where she was lovingly cared for. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the Hauger's house. Garcia -- Mrs. Charlotte (Maez) Garcia died Sunday in Albuquerque at the age of 74. She was a very special mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Mrs. Garcia was an employee of the Elks Club for many years. She is survived by four sons, Joe Garcia, David Garcia, Ted Garcia, and wife Flor, and Anthony Paiz; sister, Teordorita Garcia and husband, Martin; five grandchildren, Dennis Y., Theodore P., Mark I., Joseph D., and Masael Garcia; and one great-grandchild, Izaiah Garcia. Gentzler -- Robert"Bob" Francis Gentzler, 79, a 36 resident of Edgewood, NM passed away Friday April 28, 2000 on his ranch. He was born to Solomon and Gertrude (Stevens) Gentzler September 4, 1920 in Portis, Kansas. Bob graduated from Pilot school in Fort Sumner, NM and served in the Air Force during WWII as a B-17 bomber pilot. He also graduated from UCLA and got a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, he went to MIT and got his masters in Meteorology, he attended University of Denver in 1940 and the South Dakota School of Mines Tech in 1942 and 1946. He was a member of the National Arabian Horse Assoc., and is asked he would say"I am just a cowboy" He is survived by his long time Companion Donita"Doni" Carpenter of Edgewood, NM; his son Tim Gentzler of Anthony, NM; his daughter Victoria and husband Russell Williams of Edgewood, NM; his neice Judy Ilhi; nephews James Hackett, Richard Hackett, Charles Rausch; his 6 grandchildren Grady Gentzler, Zane Gentzler, Mitzi Gentzler, Jason Labb, Alex Haddad, Joshua Haddad, Michelle Williams; his 5 great-grandchildren Anastasia Haddad, Nicklos McNeese, Anthony Haddad, Joshua Haddad, Cora Williams; and also Doni Carpenter's children Kitty, Trish, and Rick. He was preceded in death by his former wife Mary Katherine Gentzler; his sister Clarabeth Rausch; brother Jack Gentzler; and grand-daughter Ashley Smith. Green -- Betty Jane Green, 70, a resident of Belen, was peacefully called hom to be with the Lord on Monday May 1, 2000. She was a member of the Peralta Methodist Church. Irving -- Vera L. Irving, 89, a resident of Belen for the last 47 years, peacefully passed away on Sunday April 30, 2000. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Belen, the Belen Sewing Club, and was an active participant in Belen Senior Citiznes. Vera was a people person and enjoyed receiving visitors at her home. She had many, many friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Vera was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel R. Irving in 1965; her daughters, Betty in 1935; Beverly Wagoner in 1932. She is survived by her loving children, JoAnn Howey and her husband, Hugh L. of Albuquerque, NM; Kenneth Jay Irving of Globe, AZ; Karen Jones and her husband, John L. of Miami, AZ; 9 loving grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. Jaramillo -- Lena B. Jaramillo, our Beloved Mom and Wife, went to be with our creator on April 7, 2000 after a long illness. She was from Cochiti Pueblo and made her home in Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband of 44 yrs, Joe Sr.; two daughters, Barbara and Eileen; one son, Joe Jr.; eight grandchildren, Dominic, Edduina, Kimberly, Donald, Timothy, Modesto Jr., Paul, and Kyle; one great granddaughter, Arabella; two brothers, Clarence and John Bowannie. Rosary and Mass was celebrated at St. Bonaventure Church on Sunday April 9th and interment followed at the Cemetery at Cochiti Pueblo. Lauser -- Suzanne Lucille, a special gift from God, was born September 10, 1943 in Albuquerque, and passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 28, 2000, due to complications following surgery. She is survived by her parents Kent and Marta Lauser, her sisters Kenna del Sol and Linda Hunter, and her brother Don Lauser; nieces Ohnah and Ariel and nephews Tony, Markom, Jed and Austin, and grandniece Akira Lynn. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dean Lauser. Her parents were founding members of the Albuquerque Association for Retarded Children, now known as Association of Retarded Citizens of Albuquerque. Sue was a pioneering student in the special education program taught by Pearl S. Thompson. This program was started by AARC in conjunction with Albuquerque Public Schools in the early fifties. Sue, a longtime member of Harwood Methodist Church, was much loved by family and friends and touched many lives with her unconditional love. She spent her days singing, dancing, playing piano, creating her Homemade Handmade by Sueî greeting cards, helping her friends at Cornucopia, worshipping at Rio Grande Baptist Church and visiting with family and friends. She lived in an Intercare home in the South Valley associated with ArcA. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo Ave., NW, in Albuquerque, with reception to follow. Mound -- John James Mound III, born August 2, 1978, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on April 25, 2000. He was an especially loving son to Jay and Kathy, and adored by Tyler, his little brother. His biggest desire was to be able to return home to live with his family and be able to interact with all members of his extended family. He was a talented boy and aspired to resume full participation in his education, employment, and live an ordinary life. He had a passion for nature and all of its beauty and loved to feel the wind in his face. Jon was a gifted athlete, especially in basketball and soccer. Always a team player, he displayed sportsmanship, win or lose. Seldom has there been a child who was loved so much by so many in so short a life. Loving survivors include his parents, John"Jay" James Mound II and Kathryn Lynn Mound; brother, Tyler Marcial Montgomery Mound; great-grandmother, Vina Atencio; great-great-aunt, Vangie Huchamala and husband, Archie and family; grandparents, John"Jack" James Mound I and wife, Betty, Suzann Trout, Kelo Martinez and Antoinette Sanchez, and Anna Belle Miller and husband, Rod. He is also survived by aunts, Karen"Marie" Mound and daughter, Lindsay, Shannon Bonness and husband, Rik and sons, Eric and Alex, Suzy Mound and son, Nathan, Deanna Firebaugh and husband, Jeffery and children, Erika and Hunter, and Karen Kelly and daughter, Kristina; and an uncle, Lee Kittell and wife, Frances and children, Callen and Heidi. Surviving great-aunts include Carol Perkins and husband, Marvin and children, Ron and Tammy, and the children of Elizabeth Atencio, who preceded John James in death, Eugenia, Joseph and Tessie, Rosemary De La O and husband, Leo, Josie Counce and husband, Dwayne and children, Chuck, Michael and Joni. Surviving great-uncles include Archie Atencio and children, Jessica and Thomas, Melvin Atencio and children, Anthony, Melanie, and Matthew, Leonard Atencio and wife, Denise and daughter, Jamie, Delfie Atencio and children, Michael, Delouise and Andrew, Johnny Atencio and wife, Nelly and children, Scott and Robinson, Joseph Atencio and wife, Karen and children, Jolene and Matthew, Anthony Atencio, Michael Atencio and children, Michael J. and Aaron, and Dick Mound and wife, Carol and sons, Rick and Sean. Also surviving is a special friend, Serina Robinette and many special friends whose lives were touched by John. Potts -- Clair George Potts, 67, an Albuquerque resident since 1963, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 30, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Randy Kelley of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Gary Purser of Rowville, Victoria, Australia; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Kathy Potts of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Ryan and Jeremy Kelley, Brittany and Taylor Purser, Timothy, Kara and Jacob Potts, and Becky and Ben Edwards. He is also survived by brothers, Dean and his wife, Martha; Meredith and his wife, Betty; Clyde and his wife, Vivian; and Wayne and his wife, Janet; a sister, Wadna Dillon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him greatly. Mr. Potts served his country well for 20 years with the United States Air Force, and 26 years as a civilian employee of Kirtland Air Force Base, having retired January 1, 2000. He was a USSSA and ASA umpire and supervisor at Bullhead Softball Complex. As a member of First Baptist Church, he faithfully served in many areas. Services celebrating his life will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Dennis Lihte officiating. Riley -- John T. Riley, 87, died Saturday, April 29, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hildegarde Riley of Albuquerque; daughter, Patti Curry and husband, Patrick of Albuquerque; son, Michael Riley of Upwey, Victoria, Australia; grandchildren, Candi Poole, Casey Curry, and Kelley Curry; great-grandchildren, Joshua Poole, Jacob Poole, Stephanie Curry, Katie Curry, Taylor Curry, and Cassandra Curry; and brother, Dalton C. Riley of Oklahoma City, OK. He was born in Stoneburg, Texas on a ranch on February 22, 1913. Mr. Riley spent his early childhood in Capulin, New Mexico on a ranch before moving to Norman, OK where he graduated from high school and the University of Oklahoma. After receiving his degree in Business Administration, he became the deputy county treasurer of Cleveland County, Oklahoma. In 1941, Mr. Riley became a civil service employee for the US Air Force and continued until his retirement in 1972. His career in the civil service took him and his family to several different places including Oklahoma, Germany, North Carolina, Alabama and Sacramento, California. Upon retirement he moved to Hesperia, CA where he enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and playing bridge. Mr. Riley was an active member of Church of the Valley in Apple Valley, California until moving to Albuquerque in 1998. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by all of his family. Cremation has taken place and private disposition of cremains will take place at a later date. Santiago -- Final viewing for Mr. Pedro Rodriquez Santiago will be this morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Schwass -- Laura Haines Schwass, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, died Sunday, April 30, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Wymer and husband, Fred; son, Charles E. Schwass all of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and very dear friend, Dorothy Launius of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband,Paul Jensen and Harley Schwass; daughters, Mary Lois, Dorothea; and son, Bruce. She was a member of the Moose Lodge. Sublett -- Paul C. Sublett, 65, a resident of Belen, passed away at the VA hospital in Albuquerque on Sunday April 30, 2000. Paul is the son of the late Paul and Eve Sublett of Fort Worth, TX. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and was a well-known area businessman owning and operating Paul's Signs since 1976. Paul was retired since 1975 from the United States Marine Corps after 22 1/2 years of outstanding service. He proudly served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam War. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Emily of the family home in Belen; his four loving sons, Joel, Stewart, Philip, and Warren; his three daughters-in-law; and nine loving grandchildren.
