Obituary for Brown

Rev. Richard H. (Dick) Brown, 88, of Regina, NM, passed over on April 29, 2000, at the Albuquerque Manor Nursing Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth, daughter Lynda Carol both of Regina, two sisters, Ava Steiner of New Brighton, PA, Elizabeth Morse of Santa Cruz, CA, two brothers, Elvett Brown of Wenatchee, WA, Thomas Clio (T.C.) Brown of Clackamas, OR, daughter-in-law Lucy Daniels and husband Mike, grandson Nick Brown and wife Cindy, Grandson Justin Daniels, all of Albuquerque, NM, and grand-daughter Ellen Lockhart of Flint, TX, great-grandchildren, Curtis, Cody, and Madisen Brown of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his sister Eva Brown, parents Laura M. and T. Clio Brown, son Richard Harold Brown Jr., and brother Oscar N. Brown. Richard was born in Mocane, Oklahoma, on July 16, 1911, and moved with his family to the Willamet Valley in Oregon in his early teen years. There he attended Portland Bible Institute in Portland, Oregon, where he met his beloved wife, Ruth Scoville, an R.N. They were married on December 22, 1940, in Medford, Oregon. Together they pastored Quaker (Friends) churches in Central Washington, moved to League City, TX, on to Ramona, OK. They were called to Cleveland, Ohio, where Richard attended Cleveland Bible Institute, earning a degree in Theology. Both their children were born during this time. They moved to the Midwest, where they continued to serve as pastors for rural community Quaker churches. They served as missionaries on the Navajo Indian Reservation at Rough Rock, AZ and also served on many Boards of the Rocky Mountain Yearly Meeting of Friends. Richard enjoyed his retirement by rockhounding with the club at Palo Duro Senior Center, lapidary work and silver smithing, volunteering for many years at the International Balloon Fiesta. He was also on the advisory board at Palo Duro, a Grey Gladiator and Rent-a-Granny, volunteer, and an accomplished finish carpenter. Richard was dearly loved and will be missed by his family, friends, and those he served in his 50 years of ministry. Cremation will take place Monday, May 1,2000 and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at 5 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd NE, with Pastor Terry Ash officiating.
