Baker -- Bertha L. Baker, died Tuesday, January 5, 1999 in Albuquerque at age 97. She was born July 28, 1901 to Nora and Edgar Knight. She grew up in Temple, OK. Mrs. Baker finished high school in 1919 and later taught school for five terms in Temple, OK. She was married to Z.T. Baker in 1923. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Baker is survived by two sons, Harold and wife, Jeanette and Ronald and wife, Celina; four granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at Sandia Memory Gardens, 9500 San Pedro NE, with Rev. Kathi Hunter officiating. Brown -- Elizabeth Brown, 91, a resident of Albuquerque for 62 years, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 5, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Leon Brown and wife, Jean of Albuquerque, James Brown and wife, Earline of Bloomfield and Charles Brown and wife, Nancy of Navajo Dam, NM; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, C. Ray Brown and daughter, Betty Boatman. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a good Christian woman who always gave unconditional love. Caggiano -- Eleanor Caggiano, 83, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 20 years, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 1999. Eleanor was born May 18, 1915 in Brooklyn, New York. She had been a Dental Hygienist before retiring. Eleanor was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Neilson and husband, Karl of Rio Rancho; one sister, Geraldine Pavia of Maryland; four grandchildren, Kim Hartnett of New York, Robin Almanzar of Rio Rancho, Cindy Sutkaitis of Albuquerque, and Charlie Neilson of Rio Rancho; one great-grandchild, Kevin Montano of Albuquerque. There will visitation today, Thursday, January 7, 1999, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, and on Friday, January 8, 1999, from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary. Carter -- Robert E. Carter, M.D., born July 14, 1923, Minneapolis, MN, died December 31, 1998, Albuquerque. He was a graduate of the Los Alamos Ranch School, received his MD degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, returned to Los Alamos to conduct medical research for the Manhatten Project, did his residency at the University of Chicago in Pediatrics and Hematology. He was the recipient of numerous medical awards and honors, including the Markie Foundation Scholarship. He was Associate Dean at the University of Iowa Medical School; Dean and Director of the University of Mississippi Medical School; and founding Dean of the University of Minnesota-Duluth Medical School. He is survived by his wife, Lota (Chris) Ahrens Carter; brother, Theodore F. Carter; sons, Jonathan and wife, Marisa and David and wife, Anna; and daughter, Ann M.; grandchildren, Christopher, Rosemary and Allison. He is remembered as a distinguished pediatrician, medical educator, artist, philosopher, hiker and loving father and grandfather. Private services. Donations in his memory may be made to the Robert E. Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of Minnesota-Duluth Medical School or to the New Mexico Symphony.

Cheek-Martin -- Cheek- Frances Cheek-Martin departed this life on January 5, 1999 at her home surrounded by family. Born in Union, South Carolina on July 22, 1942. Moving to New York with her mother, she graduated from Andrew Jackson HS and went on to receive her MBA degree from New York University. Moving to Rio Rancho, NM with her husband, Ernest and daughter, Crystal. She was employed as a Buyer for Sandia National Laboratory. She left Sandia Labs for employment in the private sector. Fran was preceded in death by her only child, Crystal in 1990. She is survived by her husband, Ernest; mother, Pauline Treml; sister, Linda and her husband, Tim; brother, George and his wife, Rebecca; and many nieces and nephews. Fran is deeply loved and will be missed by all. We thank God for having Fran with us for as long as we did. Many thanks to Hospice and their staff for all their care and support and to those who contributed help to the family. God bless you all with the love of Christ. Crawley -- Thomas Victor Crawley, Jr., 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, January 4, 1999. Douglas -- Alan Dale Douglas, age 86, of Albuquerque, died Monday, January 4, 1999 in Albuquerque. He was born July 1, 1912 in Aneroid, Saskatchewan, Canada. He married Anna Loch on March 27, 1943 at Deming, NM. Mr. Douglas operated Dale Douglas Advertising Company in Albuquerque for many years. He was a Master in Fencing and taught fencing in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Loch Douglas of Albuquerque; two daughters, Debbie Sjodin and husband, Bob of Seattle, WA, and Daryl Black and husband, Fred of Santa Fe. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, January 8, 1999 at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Logsdon -- Margaret Emma Logsdon was born February 16, 1912 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 1999. She was a precious part of our family who deeply loved her. Mcmullen -- Isabel V. McMullen, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Thursday, December 31, 1998. She is survived by her two sisters, Ruth V. Foster of Annarbor, MI and Peggy Dawson of Albuquerque. Isabel was born in Whitestone Long Island, NY. She was employed as executive secretary with The Basf Corporation. When WWII became vital, she served New York City as an Air Raid Warden, enlisting in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in May 1943. Serving overseas in Naples and Leghorn, Italy. She was awarded the bronze star for her efforts and took her discharge in Leghorn in 1946, in order to remain with the Civil Service. Returning to New York City. She became active with the Seaman's Institute, WOR.TV, and the Golden Hill Chorus, an all women's choral group and the Professional Secretaries Association which sponsored the Retirement Center in Rio Rancho known as Vista Grande. Isabel retired to Albuquerque in 1977 where she became an active member in Chapter 60 of the Women's Army Corps Veterans Association. A memorial service will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Col. Lemuel Boyles, USAF, Ret., officiating.

Olmstead -- Edwin Olmstead, 64, passed away January 6, 1999. He retired from the United States Air Force and was owner of Aardvark Pest Control. Edwin was active in the Spanish Choir of Risen Savior Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Olmstead; children, Eric Olmstead and wife, Suzanne, Janice Romero and husband, Arnold, Tom Olmstead and wife, Patricia; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Jacqueline Romero, Racquel Olmstead, Lisa Wells, Samantha Jimenez, Olivia Olmstead, and Elliot Olmstead; brother, Frank Olmstead; sister, Eva DeLeon and husband, Russell; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Olmstead, Ramona Olmstead; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss him. Pappas -- Annie Virginia Hicks Pappas, age 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away in her sleep on the morning of January 5, 1999. She was born May 10, 1914 in WayCrose, GA, the daughter of the late Benny and Annie Hicks. She grew up in WayCrose, GA and went to Henry Grady Nursing College in Atlanta, GA to become a Registered Nurse. She came to Albuquerque in 1945. She retired from the Department of the Air Force Civil Service as a Registered Nurse on October 10, 1974. She was the widow of Peter J. Pappas who passed away in 1978 following a long illness. She is survived by her two sons, James C. Pappas and Peter J. Pappas; three grandsons, Anthony J. Pappas, Nickolas C. Pappas and Alexander D. Pappas. She was a long-standing member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 1999 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Maxine was Administrative Assistant at UNM College of Pharmacy 20 years, retiring in 1991. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd W. Pierce of Las Vegas; two sons, Michael of Hobbs,NM and Ronald of Woodridge, IL; seven grandchildren; one sister, Christine Turner Yeater of Albuquerque; three brothers, Edward Jones of Garden Grove, CA, Woodrow Jones of Westminister, CA, and Jerry Jones of Albuquerque. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, December 30, 1998 in Las Vegas.

Saiz -- Luciano Saiz died on January 5, 1999. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Veronica; his three sons, Johnny, David and Andres. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Marc Lopez, Lisa and Larry Hendrix; and a very special friend, Danny Saavedra. Storer -- Diana Cristofori Storer, 71, a longtime resident of Liberty, NY and a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, died Saturday, January 2, 1999, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her children, John Storer and wife, Mary, Kathy Helin and husband, Barry, Jim Storer, all of Albuquerque and Kenneth T. Storer of Harris, NY; seven grandchildren, Terry Storer and wife, Cindy of Woodbourne, NY, Toby Storer and wife, Tonya of Pompano Beach, FL, Tracy Russell and husband, Steve of Lighthouse Point, FL, Kirsten Cobb and husband, Eric of Albuquerque, Erik Helin of Muncie, IN and Vincent and Alicia Storer of Albuquerque; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Storer of Woodbourne, NY and Tucker Gage Storer of Pompano Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth j. Storer in 1997. Prior to her illness, Diana was very active with the Hug-A-Bear program through the Telephone Pioneers of America. Tedeschi -- Leo Tedeschi, 77, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 25 years, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 1999. Leo was born October 10, 1921, the son of Angelo and Marianne Caruso Tedeschi in Isernia, Italy. Leo had been an Upholsterer/Interior Decorator for 50 years before retiring. Leo served in the US Army, 94th Infantry during WWII. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Godfrey; and his sister, Lucy. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Rio Rancho; two children, Maryann Edmond and husband, Trent of Rio Rancho and Angelo Tedeschi and wife, Christine of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Vincent Tedeschi of New Jersey and Mario Tedeschi of New York; four grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsay, Jamie, and Michael. Tomlinson -- Peggy Tomlinson, 78, a former resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 31, 1998 in Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Tomlinson and wife, Celia of Albuquerque, Joseph Tomlinson and wife, Bertha of Tucson, AZ, Michael Tomlinson and wife, Jan of Los Alamos, NM, and Gary Hubbard and wife, Mickie of Albuquerque; daughter, Patricia Towsley and husband, Earl of Visallia, CA; sister, Pat Renault and husband, George of Arlington, VA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Tomlinson. Trujillo -- Mrs. Emilia Trujillo died Tuesday in Albuquerque at the age of 89. She is survived by six children, four daughters and two sons, Gregorita Trujillo of Bernalillo, NM, Bertha Montoya and husband, Johnny of Cuba, NM, Tonie Sanchez of Albuquerque, Frank Lovato and wife, Veronica of Denver, CO, Maurice Lovato of Albuquerque, and Emily Garcia of Albuquerque; three brothers, Telesfor Chavez and wife, Celia of Cuba, NM, Eliseo Moreno of Cuba, NM, and Filiberto Moreno of Albuquerque; two sisters, Lila Mora of California, and Patsy Martinez and husband, Gilbert of Washington; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-granchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Trujillo will be held on Friday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Valles -- Mr. Ricardo L. Valles, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on January 5, 1999. Mr. Valles was the beloved father of two daughters, Rebecca Benavidez and Lydia Flores; three sons, Eddie Valles and wife, Margaret, Juan (Johnny) Valles and wife, Gloria and Ernest Valles; two sisters, Cora Giron and husband, Anselono and Viola Lopez; one brother, Nago Valles; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Valles was preceded in death by his wife, Raquel; son, Tommy; four grandchildren, Charlotte, Barbara, Richard and Andrew. Mr. Valles was a member of the Catholic Church, during World War II he worked with the government at Eaton Metal constructing patoon tanks for the Marines, after World War II he worked as a contractor doing construction. Visitation for Mr. Valles will be Thursday afternoon, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel. A Rosary will be recited Thursday evening, 7:00 p.m., at St. Annes Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW, with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Deacon Tibo Chavez, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, 9:00 a.m., at St. Annes Church with final visitation at the church after 8:30 a.m. Monsignor Joaquin Bazan, Celebrant. Wittler -- Hans Otto Wittler, 64, beloved husband, father and Opa, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 4, 1999. Hans Otto was born on April 3, 1934 in Bielefeld, Germany. In January of 1958, Hans Otto moved to Albuquerque and in 1959 he was drafted into the United States Armed Forces. After serving two years of active duty in Panama, he continued his military service in the Reserves. In 1974, Hans Otto and his wife opened Hans Wittler's Automotive. He was a well-respected mechanic and Porsche expert, as well as a founding member of the Porsche Club of America. Hans Otto was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Christel; his sons, Roger Wittler, wife, Kristy and granddaughter, Riley Adell, Andreas Wittler and his wife, Heather; sister, Rosie Wittler of Lengerich, Germany; sister-in-law, Ursula and husband, Ervin, nephew, Rainer Zander, all of Bielefeld, Germany, as well as many close friends. Services will be held Friday, January 8, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Internment will follow at The National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
