Dailey -- Lance Corporal Travis Lee, age 18, born in Plano, TX, August 11, 1982, went home to be with his Savior on June 30, 2001. He was the victim of an ATV accident. He loved God, his family, his country, the United States Marine Corp and had a beautiful smile. He is the son of Patrick and Julia Dailey of Spokane, WA. At the time of his death, he was an active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and serving with Battery"P" 5th Battalion 14th Marine Reserve in Spokane. While growing up in Albuquerque, he was a Life Scout of Troop 185, Cedar Crest, NM; past Master Counselor of the Demolay Metro Chapter, dual member of the Estancia Valley Chapter, he received the NJROTC Outstanding Achievement Award his Senior year 2000, Manzaano High School and was also Company Commander. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Chapel. He is survived at home by his sister Charlotte, Grandparents, Betty Walker of Overton, TX, Tom And Ethel Beene of Arp, TX, Bobby and Jimmi Dailey of Poyner, TX and numerous aunts and uncles in Texas and Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Vera Dailey. Memorial Serice will be held at Grace Baptist Chapel, 12201 Comanche, NE, Albuquerque, NM, Tuesday evening 7:00, 296-7163. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund in honor of Travis.

Overson -- Ray Emmit Overson, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Thursday, June 28, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ila Overson of Albuquerque; daughter, Carolyn Yoss and husband, Charles of Las Vegas, NV; four sons, Ronald R. Overson and wife, Sharon of Albuquerque, Michael Overson and wife, Pam of Overton, NV, Dwane Overson of Albuquerque and Frank Overson and wife, Donna of Moriarty; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Overson was preceded in death by his daughter, Lila. He was a WWII Navy Veteran. Mr. Overson was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- Sage Ward. He was a carpenter for 50 years and a member of Carpenters Union Local 1319. Mr. Overson was an avid beekeeper, hunter and fisherman. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Sage Ward, 813 Sage SW, with David Smith, presiding. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aric Overson, Cord Overson, Kristopher Overson, Curtis Yoss, Dwane Overson, Michael Keaton and Stephen Close. West -- Mattie F. West, 78, born December 21, 1921 passed away Sunday, October 15, 2000 following a brief illness. She was a resident of Albuquerque, NM until February of 2000 when she went to live with her sister in Sacramento, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Brown and Gus Clayton; her husband, L.C. West; her brother, Marvin Whittaker; her daughter, Vera Jernigan; and her beloved Tiny. She leaves behind to celebrate life, her son and daughter in-law, Tony and Gina Overton, and her brother, Billie McCane all of Albuquerque, NM; and her sisters, Jean Adair of Sacramento, CA, and Ruth Hicks of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; a host of nieces and nephews; and an abundance of close friends; and her beloved Lucky. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 am on October 27, 2000 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7500 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87113. Achen -- Ethel S. Achen, 84, a resident of Fort Sumner since 1996 and a longtime resident of Yeso, died Friday, July 14, 2000 at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, TX, following an illness. Mrs. Achen was born May 11, 1916 in Doretta, San Miguel County, NM, to the home of Albert Oliver Smith and the former Mary Cox. She moved with her family to Yeso at the age of seven. She attended school at Buchanan and Yeso until the eighth grade. She attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School. Following graduation, she attended Amarillo Junior College, Highlands University, and Eastern New Mexico University. She married Marcel Hubert Bruce Achen on October 22, 1938. Together they ranched at Yeso. The Achen family continues to operate the family ranch. Ethel began her teaching career at Yeso, NM in 1938, a position that lasted 29 years until the school closed in 1967. While teaching at Yeso she was instrumental in organizing the Yeso P.T.A., a Boy Scout Troop, and a 4-H Club. In 1967, she began teaching third grade at the Fort Sumner Elementary School. She taught at Fort Sumner until her retirement in 1973. Throughout her teaching career she was a master teacher, never accepting second-best from a student. She was honored in 1967 as the Masonic Teacher of the Year. She was also elected to the"Hall of Fame" for the Southeast District of the National Education Association - New Mexico. Ethel was a member of NM Education Retirees, she enjoyed playing canasta with her friends and making crafts. She made the most beautiful carpet hangings. Ethel was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Marcel Hubert Bruce Achen in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Jack Achen and wife, Tammy of Yeso, NM, Tyson Achen and wife, Adie of Las Cruces; a daughter, Marcie Salopek and husband, Mark of Las Cruces. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Laura Smith of Corrales. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2000, from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM. Rev. Jim Peabody will officiate. Burial will follow at Yeso Cemetery, Yeso, NM. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, J.O. Achen, Buddy Achen, Brad Achen, Dustin Salopek, Adam Salopek, Casey Achen, and Clayton Scorzafava. Honorary bearers will include Lewis Hisel, Charlie Overton, Paul Horney, Albert Perez, Ted McCollum, Jose Garcia, F.B. Willis, Bob Smith, and all her friends and neighbors. The family prefers memorials to the Ethel Achen Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Citizens Bank of Fort Sumner, P.O. Box 490, Fort Sumner, NM 88119. The casket will be closed at the church service. Overton -- Lewis M. Overton, Physician, beloved husband of Helen Thomas Overton, father to Nancy Covalt, Lewis Overton Jr. and Mary Pashyo, passed away peacefully at Lovelace Medical System Hospital, where he worked for much of his career and to which he had devoted so much of his energy and emotion. He was 96 years old. A resident of Albuquerque since 1947, Dr. Overton practiced orthopedic surgery, as well as teaching at the University of New Mexico Medical School, which he helped to found in 1960. He retired from active practice in 1974. Dr. Overton was a distinguished contributor to the growth of Orthopedic Medicine in the State of New Mexico. From his arrival in Albuquerque until 1968, he served as Head of Orthopedic Surgery at the Lovelace Foundation. During this period, he also served as President of Medical Staff at the Bataan Memorial Hospital. In addition, he served as staff member and consultant to numerous private and government hospitals around the state. During this period, he was elected President of the New Mexico State Medical Society. He was a founder and acted as President of the Southwestern Surgical Congress and Chairman, Committee on Applicants for New Mexico, American College of Surgeons. He regularly served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the United States Veteran's Hospital. His community activities included the founding, with others, of the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center. He also founded and acted as medical director for outpatient clinics for those suffering from incapacitating diseases. From 1956 to 1981, he was affiliated with the Carrie Tingley Hospital for Crippled Children in Truth or Consequences. He served as Medical Director, 1980-1981, during which time he oversaw the hospital's move to Albuquerque. In recognition of his service, he received the Albuquerque Jr. Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Community Service Award in 1956. He was honored with distinguished service awards from the Southwestern Surgical Congress, the New Mexico Orthopedic Society and Carrie Tingley Hospital. Born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC, he received his BS in Chemistry from Duke University and his MD from the University of Maryland. He also served at the Mayo Foundation, where he received his MS in Orthopedic Surgery from the University of Minnesota. The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery certified him in orthopedic surgery. Prior to coming to the Lovelace Foundation, he practiced medicine in Des Moines, IA for ten years. He served in World War II as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Medical Corps. in both the U.S. and Pacific Theater. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Albuquerque Country Club. Dr. Overton is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Nancy Covalt, Lewis Overton Jr. and Mary Pashyo; brother, Dolphin Overton of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchildren, Cale Carson III, David Carson, Jane Carson, Mary Carson Matteucci, Thomas Overton, Anne Overton, Cyrena Schroeder and Rasila Schroeder; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service in celebration of his life and resurrection will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Dr. Paul Davenport officiating. Waddles -- Jesse Owen Waddles, Jr., age 49, and a native resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 1999. Mr. Waddles was born June 30, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Waddles; four children, Kevin and Sheldon Waddles, both of Albuquerque, Tina and Keva Waddles, both of Memphis, TN; his mother, Mrs. Novella Waddles of Denver, CO; his father, Mr. Jessie Waddles, Sr. and wife, Sarah of Albuquerque; three sisters, Gloria Hunn-Perry and husband, Larry, Diana Waddles and Cheryl Waddles, all of Denver, CO; two brothers, James Waddles and wife, LaJana of Colorado Springs, CO and Donald Ray Waddles of Denver, CO; his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Oliver of Albuquerque; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Tina B. French; eight grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Brannan -- Glen Brannan, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, died Sunday, May 16, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Nena A. Brannan of the home; sons, Dale Brannan and wife, Beverly of St. Louis, MO, Paul Brannan and wife, Jody of Albuquerque, and Gary Brannan and wife, Virginia of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Dina and husband, Jim Patterson Jr., John Brannan, Mark Brannan, David Brannan, Joie Brannan, and Paulette Brannan; brothers, John Brannan of Showlow, AZ and Richard Brannan and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Evelyn of Belen; five nephews; and ten nieces. He was preceded by his sister, Pauline Simason; and brothers, Overton Brannan and Joe Brannan. Mr. Brannan was a member of Mountainside Church of Christ and was a song leader in the Church of Christ for over 60 years. He retired from the USAF and then worked for Hutchison Fruit Company as a bookkeeper and office manager.
