HOUGHTON -- Paul Wayne Houghton, 84, passed away November 29, 2006. He was a life long resident on Albuquerque. Paul was a 1940 graduate of Albuquerque High and attended UNM. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America for 16 years, YMCA and Indian Guides for 9 years, ASQC, and also a graduate of the Air War College. He worked his way through his military career in the Air Force, starting off as a Buck Private in the Army Air Corp and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, U.S.A.F. Paul is survived by his daughter, Florence K. Houghton and husband, Peter Anders of Los Alamos, NM; two sons, Paul W. Houghton Jr. and wife, Enong of Woodside, CA, and Woods Houghton and wife, Cindy of Carlsbad, NM; six grandchildren, Jannetta, Joshua, Jerimiah, Duston, Forrest, and Serena; along with other family members and friends. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday December 7, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors, burial to follow with military honors at Sunset Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to The Ranch's of New Mexico, the Salvation Army, or to any of the Albuquerque Homeless Shelters. CARAH -- Lt. Col. John P. Carah, USAF (Ret.), age 91, passed away on September 21, 2006 in San Antonio, TX. Col Carah was born in Houghton, MI, and raised in Birchwood, WI. He graduated from North Dakota State University, with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he joined the military and served during World War II and the Korean War. Retiring after 30 years of service, he and his wife spent most of their time in New Mexico. He was a quiet man who loved sports, reading, current events, and the Green Bay Packers. He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Carah. He is survived by his wife Katharine Carah of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Katharine Schlosberg and husband Richard of San Antonio, TX; son, John G. Carah of Neenah WI; daughter, Susan Davie and husband Neil Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Dr. Richard T. Schlosberg IV, Deborah Rich, Angela Davie, Adam Davie and Melissa Davie; four great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth Carah; and numerous nieces and nephews. TEUBER -- Ross L. Teuber, 88, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2006 in Sikeston, MO and was born January 28, 1918 in Des Moines, IA, son of Verne L. and Mabel Frances Houghton Teuber. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Larry R. and Suzanne Teuber of Davis, CA; his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Ann and Thomas L. Jennings of Sikeston, MO; four granddaughters, Stephanie and Melissa Teuber of Davis, CA and Katherine and Kimberly Jennings of Sikeston, MO. Mr. Teuber graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Forestry, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On October 16, 1942, he married Clara Elizabeth Griffith in Ames, IA, she preceded him in death on April 19, 2004. He was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. After his retirement in 1978 he did many hours of volunteer work at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge and Sevillita National Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Teuber was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, was an usher, and was active in the Emmaus Alumni Group. He was very active in the New Mexico Ornithological Society for many years. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2006, 3:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield of St. John's United Methodist Church officiating. HOUGHTON -- Donald K. "Hoot", 81, born February 8, 1925, peacefully passed away April 29, 2006 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Graduated from Albuquerque High School, a Pacific Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, retired from PNM after 31 years as a line foreman, worked at Hope Schools, and taught Sunday School at Faith Chapel for 18 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Florence; sisters Cecile and Sibyl; and grandson, Jonathan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Houghton; children, Albert, Donna, Janetta, Cynthia Houghton, Pamela and husband, Allen Kirkpatrick, Tina and husband, Wayne Sieg; seven grandchildren; brother, Paul; nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Faith Chapel, 1726 Girard NE at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Mable Dawe and Rev. Tom Salmon officiating. Interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park. MARTIN -- Irene Martin, of Albuquerque, passed away on March 6, 2006 at the age of 92. Irene is survived by her daughter, Eileen M. Whitaker and son-in-law, William Whitaker of Albuquerque; her sons, Rik Martin of Placitas, NM and Allen Martin of Las Vegas, NV; and her granddaughter, Ashleigh Martin of Albuquerque. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Martin; a son, Larry Martin; her parents, Samuel and Agnes Orr McCance; and her sisters, Lily Senter and Sadie Batchelder. Irene was born in Sparta, Wisconsin and grew up in Houghton, Michigan where she met her husband, Ralph Martin. They were married August 6, 1937. She and Ralph relocated to Albuquerque in 1945 and she lived until her death in the house she and Ralph built with their own hands upon their arrival in Albuquerque. Irene retired in 1980 from the Albuquerque Public School system following 17 years as a bookkeeper at Albuquerque High School. She had also worked as bookkeeper in Houghton for the local newspaper. Irene was a proud charter member of Rio Grande Presbyterian Church of which she was the last survivor. Irene was very active in Rio Grande Presbyterian Church until the day of her passing. She was serving as a church deacon, church financial secretary, treasurer of the Presbyterian Women's Association and treasurer of the Martineztown House of Neighborly Service Auxiliary. Irene was also an active member of the Albuquerque Association of Educational Retirees. Many of Irene's friends have been treated to her wonderful cookies and other baked goods or products from her crochet needle. Irene also loved to travel. She enjoyed four trips to Europe and had traveled extensively in the western US. The UNM Lobo basketball teams can be certain that Irene will be listening to or watching their games from above. Irene's charisma immediately captured the hearts of both friends and strangers alike. She always put the interests and welfare of others ahead of her own. Funeral Services for Irene will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11 at the Rio Grande Presbyterian Church, 600 Coors SE with The Reverend Doctor Robert Shepperson officiating. LUCERO -- Emily C. Lucero, a resident of Albuquerque for 6 years, died Thursday, August 5, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Arlene Smith and husband, Bob of Helena, MT and Evenly Lopez of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Robert Smith, Barbara Schultz, Fred Lopez, Bernadette Houghton, Diana Shapiro and Mike Lopez; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandsons and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Lucero was born and lived most of her life in Santa Fe. Her home was open to everyone and she was known for her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Mrs. Lucero raised her family and helped in the upbringing of many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Fred Lucero. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Emily Casados Lucero of Santa Fe; daughters, Arlene Smith and husband, Bob of Helena, MT, and Evelyn Lopez of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Robert Smith, Barbara Schultz, Fred Lopez, Bernadette Houghton, Diana Shapiro, and Mike Lopez; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Gomez and Delia Sedillo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Fred was born in Los Luceros, and he lived in Santa Fe most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and dedicated his life to being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 27, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
