SHIRLEY -- Donald O. Shirley, age 88 of Delmont, PA., died Wednesday, August 18, 2004. He was born on October 27, 1915 in Nowrytown, PA, a son of the late James O. and Ruth E. (Libengood) Shirley. Don retired in 1978 from the maintenance staff at the University of Pennsylvania, New Kensington Campus. He enjoyed Square dancing, Hunting at his camp in Elk County, PA, traveling, and playing the organ. Mr. Shirley was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Delmont, PA and was a proud member of the NRA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah J. "Sally" (Irwin) Shirley on June 16, 2004; and a grandson, Kevin Scott Shirley on May 29, 1999. Surviving are a son, K. Wayne Shirley and his wife, Joan of Albuquerque NM; two daughters, Donna Earnest and her husband, Barrett of Delmont, PA, and Joy Morsaint and husband, Dane of Carnegie, PA; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and a step-brother. Friends will be received Saturday and Sunday at the Wolfe-von Geis Funeral Home, Inc., in Export, PA, where Services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to the Greater Albuquerque Compassionate Friends C/O Kristi Grubb, 6813 Cherry Blossom Ln., NE, Alb., NM 87111; New Mexico Survivors of Homicide, Inc., 12400 Menaul Blvd., NE, Suite 100, Alb., NM 87112; or to St. John's United Methodist Church Bluegrass Band, 2626 Arizona St., NE, Alb., NM 87110.

FLORES -- Mr. Richard Flores, 75, a resident of Albuquerque passed away at home in the loving arms of his family on August 20, 2004. Mr. Flores is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Madge F. Flores; four children, Irene Valdez and husband, Robert, Donna Gunderson and husband, Glen, Felipe Flores, and Oscar Flores and wife, Christine; eleven grandchildren, Sharon, Sheila, Rick, Adrian, Erika, Pablo, Dominic, Merlinda, Matthew, Gabriel and DeeAnna; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Flores was preceded in death by his son, Paul Flores. Mr. Flores was a member of the Catholic Church, and a Veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was the past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and an Usher at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A visitation for Mr. Flores will be on Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of The Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5411 Fortuna NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by the Legion of Mary. Final visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Gene Gries. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Robert Valdez, Glen Gunderson, Rick Ortega, Adrian Ortega, Dominic Flores, and Matthew Flores. TAFOYA -- Johnny Abraham Tafoya, Jr., age 24, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 18, 2004. He was born on June 19, 1980 in Las Vegas, NM to Johnny M. Tafoya Sr. He was united in marriage to Charity Astle - Tafoya on August 19, 2003 in Las Vegas, NV. He was employed as a technician for Nobel Satellite Country. He was a guy that had a huge heart and was very loved and very loving to others. His hobbies included computers, roller blading, camping, fishing, weightlifting, and electrical work, and he loved his dog, Pharaoh. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Ann Tafoya; grandfather, Jose Andres Tafoya; grandparents: Eusebio Jaramillo and Lilia Jaramillo; aunt: Peggy Saiz; great uncles, Ben Soza and Richard Catanach. AUGUST -- Marie J. (Kump) August, 92, passed away on August 14, 2004. She was born in Baltimore, MD on April 19, 1912, and spent most of her life on the east coast of Maryland and Virginia. Marie moved to Albuquerque to live with her daughter, Helen, in 1991. She was the oldest of seven children. She was married to Mathew (Jake) Kump from November 1933 until April 1965, at which time Jake succumbed to cancer. She is survived by her sister, Helen Franz of Baltimore, MD; one son, John R. Kump and wife, Rachel of Big Fork, MT; two daughters, Helen Alessandrelli and husband, Joe, of Albuquerque and Donna M. Puckett and husband, Ronnie, of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren, James Kump and wife, Sherry, Alice Voigt and husband, Zane, Tami McMahon, Tina Powell and husband, Matt, Lisa Dirnberger and husband, Richard, Lara Ciasulli and husband, Carl, and Ian Puckett; and ten great-grandchildren. She was married to Joseph L. August from 1969 until his death in September, 1979. With Joe she became very active in the Lady Lions and received the Senior Citizen "On the Go" award for her efforts of volunteering in Tabb, VA. She enjoyed her second family of two daughters, Jean Thomas and husband, Billy of Poquoson, VA and Frances Goetz and husband, Bob of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Teresa Bryant and husband, Clyde and Carrie Coram; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two grandsons, Joseph and Cecil Thomas. The family wishes to thank the staff at Laurel View Healthcare for their eight years of kindness and care toward Marie. The Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m., followed by Mass at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2004 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. N.W. Cremation has taken place. SANCHEZ -- PEGGY. Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" C. Sanchez, 74, a resident of Belen, NM passed away at home with her loving family at her side on August 7, 2004. Mrs. Sanchez is survived by three daughters, Mary Agnes Sanchez, Virginia Jaramillo and Donna Sanchez; two sisters, Ellen Garcia and husband, Herman, and Mildred Archibeque; two grandchildren, Mark Jaramillo and wife, Veronica, and Ann Marie Jaramillo; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Andres, Megan, Josef, and Isabella; sister in law, Polly Lyons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Sanchez was preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Sanchez; son, Andy Sanchez; a grandson, Larry Jaramillo; parents, John and Agnes Lyons; three sisters, Lina Smith, Florence Chavez, and Dorothy Rubi; and two brothers, John "Buddy" Lyons, and George Lyons. Mrs. Sanchez is a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.
