BASSETT -- Laura Mae (nee Bryan) Bassett passed away on Sunday August 8, 2004, peacefully at home in Alpine TX, surrounded by her loving family in her 75th year. Cherished wife and best friend of Gordon for 54 years. Much loved Mother and Mother-in-law of Lecil and Annette (Huntsville, AR); Alton and Elizabeth (New Zealand); Troy (Alpine, TX); and Gayle and Rayshel (Amarillo, TX). Adored Grandma of Desri; Melissa and Nick, Janelle, Andrea; Tyler, Brett; Linneya, Miranda, Rebecca, and Breanna. A memorial service for Laura was held at Kokernot Lodge, Loop Rd. Alpine TX on Monday, Aug 9, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. A full funeral service will be held in the Canyon Cole Community Center at 300 16th Street Canyon TX, on Thursday Aug 12, 2004 at 3:00 p.m., followed by burial in the Dreamland Cemetery, 2 miles South of Canyon.

BEEKER -- Vivian (Jean) passed away recently. She was born in Funkley, MN on February 29, 1932. She is survived by four children: Gail Carrick Peyton, CO, David, Severn, MD, Darrell, Homer, AK, and Scott Beeker, Severna Park, MD. She is also survived by her three brothers; David Hannigan, Beatty, NV, Jim Hannigan, Bemiji, MN., and Roger Hannigan of Funkley, MN., and four grandchildren; Alethea Beeker, Keene, NH., Gavin Beeker, Keene, NH., Nick Beeker, Homer, AK., and Kevin Beeker, also of Homer, AK. Jean graduated from Blackduck High School, Blackduck, MN. She enlisted in the Women's Air Force as a Radio Operator and retired with her now deceased husband, SMSgt. Samuel F. Beeker (retired) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jean was an active volunteer for the Lovelace Women's Auxiliary and she was also a Republican Committee Volunteer. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Sunrise. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 12th, at 11:00 a.m., also in The Chapel of Sunrise. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. CRAIG -- John T. Craig, 84, of Albuquerque died suddenly at home, July 28, 2004. He was born April 22, 1920 in Fayetteville, AR. He is survived by his sister, Mary C. Hewett, her 5 children and 7 cousins. Jack, as known to all, was a medic in WWII, and graduated from the University of Michigan College of Architecture and Design in 1946. He worked his entire career in interior design at Eckerts of Albuquerque. Jack was a long-time supporter of the Santa Fe Opera and numerous charities. He will be missed by his family and friends. GREEN -- Mrs. Inez Green, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 8, 2004. Mrs. Green is the beloved wife of 65 years to Mr. Herbert Green. Mrs. Green is also survived by one daughter, Barbara Paulos; three grandchildren, Ken Paulos Sr., Paul Paulos, and Shannon Green; four great-grandchildren, Amy Paulos, Steven Paulos, Ken Paulos Jr., and Lena Inez Paulos; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her sons, Ted and Patrick Green. A visitation for Mrs. Green will be Thursday afternoon, August 12, 2004 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Friday morning, August 13, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Casa Blanca Presbyterian Church in Casa Blanca, NM. HERMAN -- Colonel Robert L. Herman, 81 passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 8, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan; daughters, Maud Garrison and husband, Gregg of San Antonio, TX, Marguerite Herman and husband, George Powers of Cheyenne, WY, and Rita H. Smith of Tacoma Park, MD. Robert is also survived by his sisters, Gabrielle Fitzpatrick, Betty Swann, Judy Morris, and Loretta Dula; brothers, George Herman, Carl Herman, and Timothy Herman; eight grandchildren; Dylan Smith, Bridget Stokes, Renee Godinez, Rosemary Powers, Charlotte Powers, Thomas Powers, Scott Garrison, and John Garrison; and three great-grandchildren. Robert was retired from the United States Air Force. Colonel Herman was a long time member of Annunciation Catholic Church and past President of St. Vincent De Paul Society. Robert was a long time volunteer of many civic and religious organizations. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. JANIS -- Beverly J. Janis, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004 after losing her second battle with cancer. She is survived by her three children. Jerry Janis and wife, Ginny, Teresa McCarthy and husband, Jack, and Tim Janis, all of Albuquerque; four granddaughters, Michelle Janis, Stephanie Janis, Katie McCarthy and Colleen McCarthy. Beverly was born and raised in St. Paul, MN where she met and married her husband, Jerome W. Janis. He became a career officer in the U.S. Air Force and they took off on a 21-year journey of being stationed and living in many different places throughout the United States, Japan, Germany and Belgium, before Jerome retired in Albuquerque in 1970. After losing her husband in 1993, Bev's life centered on her children, granddaughters and a close circle of friends. She will be remembered as a person who took a sincere interest in the lives of people she met and was always eager to offer kindness and support. A Celebration Mass will be held Saturday, August 14, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Community Church, 12500 Carmel NE. The family will hold a private Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery where Beverly will be laid to rest with her late husband Jerome. MCDONALD -- Beulah Mary Proctor McDonald passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the age of 94. She was born in the village of Roy, territory of New Mexico on February 19, 1910 to James and Alma Reasor Proctor. She is survived by her sons, Clyde Raymond McDonald and wife, Eileen, of Albuquerque and Thomas Franklin McDonald and wife, Patricia, of King of Prussia, PA; grandchildren, Dianna Giles of Silver City, NM, Deborah Cantrell and husband, Artie of Artesia, NM, Daneen Gatlin of Cliff, NM, Clyde (Tuffy) McDonald, Jr. and wife, Darcy of Fullerton, CA, Michael and James McDonald of Albuquerque, Sherry Capone and husband, Rudy of Audubon, PA, Christopher McDonald and wife, Carole of Collegeville, PA, Thomas McDonald and wife, Kimberly of King of Prussia, PA, and Patricia (Tish) McDonald of King of Prussia, PA. Beulah was very proud to have 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving Beulah was her sister, Christine Beeler of Lakeside, AZ; 3 nieces, Julie Baker Rachlis of Northfield, IL, Sharon Feuer of Minneapolis, MN and Deborah McReynolds of Phoenix, AZ; 2 nephews, Merwin Beeler and Richard Beeler and wife, Karen, of Lakeside, AZ. Her abiding interest was her family, to whom she gave great love and encouragement. NUNEZ -- Dorothy Nunez, born March 7, 1931, has gone home to the Lord on August 8, 2004, in the loving arms of her family after a long battle with lupus. Her son, Richard Dunker, preceded Dorothy in death. Dorothy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, James Nunez; one son, Frank Carrillo; two step-sons, Gilbert Nunez and James Nunez Jr.; three step-daughters, Mercy Chavez, Eunice Benedict, and Katie Chesawella. Also surviving Dorothy are her three sisters; two brothers; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Dorothy was a 17 year Los Lunas resident where she was a member of The Church of the Nazarene of Los Lunas. Visitations will be held on Wednesday morning, August 11, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with Funeral Services to be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. ORTIZ -- Herman L. Ortiz, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 8, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Lexie Ortiz of Albuquerque; daughter, Priscilla Ortiz of Albuquerque; son, David Ortiz of Florida; brothers, Eloy Ortiz of Albuquerque and Ralph Ortiz of Las Vegas, NM; and sisters, Helen Dominguez of Santa Fe and Flora Sanchez of Bernalillo. Mr. Ortiz was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 99. He taught special education for APS. Mr. Ortiz received his degrees from UNM and Highlands University. RYPKA -- Rosemary Rypka, age 84, of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She taught Biology at Manzano High School until 1988. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and former students. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Rypka, and her two daughters, Barbara Hanson and Rosalie Watts. A private memorial service will be held.

SANCHEZ -- PEGGY. Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" C. Sanchez, 74, a resident of Belen, NM passed away at home with her loving family at her side on August 7, 2004. Mrs. Sanchez is survived by three daughters, Mary Agnes Sanchez, Virginia Jaramillo and Donna Sanchez; two sisters, Ellen Garcia and husband, Herman, and Mildred Archibeque; two grandchildren, Mark Jaramillo and wife, Veronica, and Ann Marie Jaramillo; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Andres, Megan, Josef, and Isabella; sister in law, Polly Lyons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Sanchez was preceded in death by her loving husband, Manuel Sanchez; son, Andy Sanchez; a grandson, Larry Jaramillo; parents, John and Agnes Lyons; three sisters, Lina Smith, Florence Chavez, and Dorothy Rubi; and two brothers, John "Buddy" Lyons, and George Lyons. Mrs. Sanchez is a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. TORRES -- Isabel ISABEL (CHELA) TORRES July 31, 1927 - August 8, 2004 Isabel (Chela) Torres passed away on August 8, 2004, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie (Pancho) Torres, and her son, Patrick (Pat) Torres. Survivors include her daughter, Lillian Ortega and husband, Daniel, Leo Torrez and Liz Wright, Robert Torres and wife, Laura, and Bernie Torres Jr. and wife, Minnie. Also surviving Chela are her grandchildren, Dominic Torres, Erika Trujillo, Joseph Torres, Jennifer Trujillo, Christopher Ortega, and Isaac Ortega; her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Trujillo, Austin Torres, Sherie, Evangeline and Jeremy Torres, and Jacob Trujillo. She is also survived by her brother, Pete Valles, her sister-in-law, Jennie Valles; and many nieces and nephews. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Paul La Lefbre on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Hanson on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Anne Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. YASKO -- Nancy Jean Yasko, S.F.O., 72, a resident of New Mexico since 1977, and coming to New Mexico from New York, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2004. Nancy was born May 10, 1932, the daughter of William and Amy Cornell Townsend in New York City, NY. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; she was a lay associate of the Felician Sisters of Assumption Province in Rio Rancho; she was also a member of the St.Felix of Cantalice Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Yasko in 1978; and one brother-in-law, John Yasko. She is survived by three children, Maryann Ford and husband, Von of Cedar Crest, NM, Michael J. Yasko and wife, Nancy of Albuquerque, and Catherine Armendariz of Wrangell, Alaska; twelve grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. ZAMORA -- Angelina O. Zamora passed away on Monday morning the 9th of August, 2004 in Grants, NM. She was 99. Mrs. Zamora was born in Kelly, NM on the 12th of September 1904 to Dominic Oberto and Emilia Thompson Oberto. Mrs. Zamora was a lifelong resident of Magdalena and raised on her family's Ranch near Magdalena. In addition, she was a member of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Magdalena. She is survived by three sons; Robert Zamora and Pete Zamora of Magdalena, NM, Henry Zamora of Luna, NM; two daughters, Emma Montoya of Grants, and Helen Zamora of Magdalena; two sisters; Betty Montano of Magdalena, and Esther Navarro of Merced, CA. Fourteen grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren survive as well. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominico Zamora; her Parents, Dominic Oberto and Emilia Thompson Zamora; her son, Dominic Zamora in 1962; her son, Joe Zamora in 1975. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Magdalena, NM. Rosary will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Mary Magdalene in Magdalena, with Father Matthew Keller officiating. Burial will follow at Magdalena Cemetery in Magdalena. Pallbearers include Adrian Zamora, Michael Zamora, Matthew Zamora, Dominic Zamora, Joaquin Zamora, and Billy McIntyre.
