Valdez -- Ramon Eduardo Valdez, age 51, lifetime Tucumcari, NM resident, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, October 11, 2001 following a brief illness. Ramon was born September 25, 1950 in Rainsville, NM. He was employed with the New Mexico Veteran's Service Commission of 28 years and retired on September 28, 2001. He was a board member of the Father Hammond's Scholarship Fund, a member of the Delfido Gonzales VFW Post 2528, a member of the American Legion Post #20, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was an 18 years member of the Selective Service Board. He was a lifetime member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church. Surviving Ramon Valdez is his wife, Margarita of Tucumcari, NM; three sons, Armando Valdez and family of Tucumcari, Christopher Valdez and wife, Heather of Tucumcari, and Anthony Valdez and wife, Joella of Clovis, NM; three grandchildren; five sisters, Lupe Marquez, Lila Aragon and Ruperta Tafoya all of Albuquerque, Eva Archuleta of Las Vegas, NM, and Annie Regansburg of Santa Fe, NM; three brothers, Fares and Julian Rains of Las Vegas, NM and Manuel Valdez of Texas; several nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited in the St. Anne's Catholic Church on Tuesday evening, October 16, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. with Mass of the Resurrection being offered on Wednesday morning, October 17, 2001 at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Anne's Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. John C. Daniel of St. Anne's Catholic Church as Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Bill Villanueva, Sal Dimacali, Rick Apodaca, Eric Martinez, Dwayne Austin and Johnny Marquez. Honorary Pallbearer will be all close friends and neighbors. Burial will be in the family plot of the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.

Wilks -- Alice Teresa Wilks, 84, longtime resident of Raton died unexpectedly on October 4, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque. She was born on February 23, 1917 in County Mayo, Ballyhaunis, Ireland the daughter of the late Andrew and Alice Kenny. She was a member of the American Legion, and the Raton Humane Society. She was a member of the St. Patrick's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Wilks; brothers, Andrew, Johnny, Patrick and Martin; and sisters, Kathleen and Annie. She leaves behind many relatives and dear friends. Her daughter Kristina and husband, Curtis Eckhart of Albuquerque; nephew, Alan Kenny and wife, Naomi of Raton; niece Eileen and husband, Mike Marquez of Amarillo, Texas survive her; and nephew, Patrick Kenny and wife, Gloria of Long Island, New York survive her. Recitation of the Holy Mass was held on Monday, October 8, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's /St Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton. Solemn Mass of the Resurrection followed at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Sipio Salas as the celebrant. Interment followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements for Alice Teresa Wilks were under the direction of the Alderette- Pomeroy Funeral Home. In lieu of the flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Raton Humane Society.

Candelaria -- Mr. Eddy (Pito) Candelaria, 60, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 1, 2001. Mr. Candelaria is survived by his mother, Julia Garcia; three sisters, Pita Candelaria, Teresa Torres and husband, Enrique, and Frances Candelaria; one aunt, Candy Apodaca; two nephews, Bobby Marquez and Enrique Torres III; two nieces, Angela Torres and Christina Torres; two cousins, Amanda Marquez, and Anthony Marquez; special friends, Garrito Moya, Shorty Chavez, and Rabs; and many other cousins and friends. A visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Pablo Lucero officiating. Interment will follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Marquez, Enrique Torres, Enrique Torres III, Gilbert Chavez and Johnny Gallegos. Ortiz -- Edna Ortiz, 65, Our Most Precious Beloved Mother, has gone to rest June 27, 2001. She was born July 13, 1935 in Santa Fe, NM., where she lived most of her life. Edna was preceded in death by her mother, Tomasita Padilla; adopted mother, Amanda Cordova; husband, Pedro Ortiz Sr.; sons, Paul Ortiz, Leroy Ortiz, and Johnny Isaac Ortiz. She is survived by her children, Catherine Villavicencio and husband, Jorge, Diane Archuleta, Pedro Ortiz Jr. and wife, Victoria, Joanne Rodriguez and husband, Jose, Raymond Ortiz and wife, Darlene, Andrew Ortiz and wife, Henrietta, Esperanza Ortiz and wife, Liza, Santana Chavez and husband, Michael, Rick Ortiz and wife, Angie, and Anita Ortiz; 29 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernie Cordova and wife, Lola, Thomas Padilla and wife, Virginia, Johnnie Padilla and wife, Gerry, Valentine Padilla, Armando Gonzales and wife, Cecilia, Joe Jr. Cordova, Modesto Cordova, Raymond Cordova and wife, Rosenda; sisters, Rose Marquez, Josie Cordova, Gloria Cordova, Betty Arguello, numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Hernandez -- Ray A. Hernandez Sr., 44, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 28, 2001. Mr. Hernandez is the beloved husband of 25 years to Mrs. Laura Hernandez. He is also survived by four daughters, Melissa Marrufo and husband, Michael, Valerie Herrera, Renee Herrera and fiance, Shawn Pertner and Melissa Hernandez; one son, Ray Hernandez Jr.; eight grandchildren, Nikki, Stephanie, Johnny, Brandon, Alyssa, Bubba, Nano and Angelica; one sister, Debbie Anaya; sister in law, Pam Marquez; brothers-in-law, Joseph Marquez and Robert Marquez; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Molly Compos. Mr. Hernandez was a member of the Catholic Church. Torres -- Mr. John J. Torres Sr., 70, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 27, 2001. Mr. Torres is the beloved husband of 47 years to Mrs. Amelia Torres. He is also survived by one daughter, Theresa Y. Torres and companion, David T. Stewart; two sons, Lawrence M. Torres Sr. and wife, Mary Lorraine, Martin R. Torres and wife, Carolyn N.; five sisters, June Gonzales and husband, Luis, Dorothy LaMondy and husband, Walter, Mable Gutierrez and husband, Joe, Mary Padilla and husband, Leroy and Pauline Shainin and husband, John; two brothers, Floyd Torres and wife, Dora and George Torres; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Lawrence Jr., Johnny Lee, Filemon, Starr, Viviana and Manuel; one great-grandson, Marquez. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Carol JoAnn Torres and a son John J. Torres Jr. Mr. Torres was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War ll. Zamora -- Margarito A. Zamora, age 92, passed away January 4, 2001 in Santa Rosa following an illness. Margarito was born January 29, 1908 in Potrillo, NM to the home of Pablo and Adelaida Alarid Zamora. He was reared in Potrillo and Puerto De Luna. Margarito married Faustina Lucero on February 15, 1935 in Santa Rosa. He worked as a sheepherder and for the Southern Pacific Railroad for over 33 years. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and the Railroad Union. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Faustina, his son, Raymond Zamora, a granddaughter, Marlene Zamora, his brothers, and sisters, Transita Sandoval, Rosa Chavez, Conrada Marquez, Otilia Sandoval, Genoveva Serna, Filiberto Zamora and Fermin Zamora. Survivors include his grandchildren, Raymond Zamora and wife, Susan of Santa Rosa, Johnny Zamora and wife, Maria of Tierra Amarilla, Jake Zamora and wife, Sylvia of Albuquerque, Roberta Nimmons and husband, Winslow of Tucson, AZ, Christine Sanchez and husband, Gilbert of Santa Rosa, Robert Zamora and wife, Sunshine of Santa Rosa and Justin Zamora of Santa Rosa; a daughter-in-law, Julia Zamora of Santa Rosa; and a sister-in-law, Otilia Zamora of Fort Sumner; also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Ray Zamora, Daniel Zamora, Michael Zamora, Katie Zamora, Bianca Zamora, Antoinette Zamora, Victoria Zamora, Mariquita Zamora, Jacob Zamora, John Zamora Christopher Sanchez, Veronica Sanchez, Joaquin Sanchez, Robert Zamora and Adrianna Zamora. Sanchez -- Rosie "Nana" Sanchez went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 5, 2000 after a long illness. She was born on November 22, 1925 to Juan and Margarita Sedillo. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, Henry R. Sanchez Jr. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Henry G. Sanchez Sr. She is also survived by her sons, Johnny and wife, Gloria, Leroy and wife, Yolanda; her daughters, Annabell Perea and Margaret Lopez. Also survived by 16 grandchildren; 23 great-granchildren; and one sister, Ruth Sedillo and husband, Fred. She has gone on to be with our Lord where there is no longer pain and suffering. She will be dearly missed. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Ladera Nursing Center for the care and love they have provided the last ten months; also to the New Mexico Kidney Foundation. She loved you all.
