Baklini -- Edward Andrew Baklini of Albuquerque died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Laurel View Healthcare after a long illness. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on July 24, 1919, the youngest of five children of Ayoub and Julia (Maloof) Baaklini. He was of Lebanese ancestry, husband of the late Genevieve (Maloof) Baklini, and a resident of Albuquerque for 44 years. Mr. Baklini was a World War II bomber navigator in the South Pacific in the 5th Air Force's 90th Bomber Group. Later he was an Air Force Systems Analyst and aeronautical engineer, retiring in 1973. He is survived by daughters, Joanne Stewart and her husband, Ronald, Christine Buchalter and her husband, Harvey; sons, Edward Baklini, Jr.; Robert Baklini and his wife, Lynn; as well as grandchildren, Ronald, Alicia, and Rebecca Stewart, Cara and Caroline Buchalter, and Amy, Sean and Susan Baklini. A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2001 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave NE. Father Dennis Garcia will officiate. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is in charge of his arrangements.

Bruyere -- David L. Bruyere, 65, a resident of Corrales since the early '70s, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 42 years, Nancy L. Bruyere; grandchildren, Natasha C. Kowalchuk, Joshua D. Kowalchuk and Patrick S. Kowalchuk, all of Corrales; sisters, Elaine Whatley and Audrey Fred, both of Florida; and many nephews, nieces and cousins of New York, Michigan, Florida and New Mexico. Mr. Bruyere was preceded in death by his daughter, Michele A. Bruyere-Kowalchuk; and brother, Robert Harold Bruyere. He was a Councilman, Fire Chief and volunteer fireman of Corrales. Mr. Bruyere owned a small engine and lawn mower business and he also worked for Ever Ready Oil Company. He was a member of the Senior Citizen Center and the Prostate Support Group. Mr. Bruyere served in the U.S. Marines. Services will be held Thursday, 12:00 noon, at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Cremation will take place and private interment of cremains will be held at a later date. Pallbearers will be John Malone, Jr., Raef Schmidt, John Malone, Sr., Leonard Abeyta, Jim Fritts and Anthony Martinez. Carver -- Joanne M. Carver transcended to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 15, 2001. She is survived by her four children, Phyllis, Andrea, Linus and Jared, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Allan Carver, also of Albuquerque; her beloved Aunt, Grace Sullivan of Calgary Alberta Canada; cousin, Lorie Carveth and daughter, Corey and husband, Frank of Calgary Alberta Canada; many friends, colleagues and relatives in both the United States and Canada. Joanne was born in Regina Saskatchewan Canada to Phyllis M. and Joseph P. Molter, and came to New Mexico to study at New Mexico State University, then to the University of Kentucky to obtain her Masters in Psychology and finally to the University of New Mexico Law School, graduating in 1974. She became one of the first women to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Bernalillo County. She was instrumental in rewriting New Mexico Rape Laws and later, in her private practice beginning in 1977, argued several child custody cases in which she succeeded in obtaining custody for single fathers. Joanne was in private practice from 1977 until July 13, 1999. Joanne will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to share time with her. Cremation has been performed and a private interment will be held at a later date in Regina Saskatchewan Canada, with family in attendance. A Rosary will be recited at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE, on Thursday, March 22, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will also be celebrated for her at St. Charles on Saturday, March 24, 2001 beginning at 9:30 a.m. The family wishes to extend their warmest gratitude for all the prayers, generous personal assistance that was offered by many individuals during the difficult times that Joanne endured prior to her passing on.

Chavez -- Vera Soledad Maria Chavez, 60, a resident of Adelino, NM peacefully passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 while surrounded by her devoted family. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, NM. She was preceded in death by her father, Ramon F. Sanchez. Vera is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Lawrence"Larry" Chavez; her five children, Ruth Groom; Mary Valdez and husband, Randy; Lawrence Pacheco; Dolores Pacheco and her financee, Roman Madrid; and Sheri Chavez; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; her mother, Elisia Sanchez; her brothers and sisters, Emily Castro; Marcella Romero, Adolph Sanchez; Gloria Trujillo and husband, Ernest; Isabel Lovato and husband, Mike; Theresa Humphreys and husband, Terry; and Raymond Sanchez. She is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. A Visitation will be held on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. Coleman -- Nancy Coleman, 59, a longtime resident of the South Valley, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Bud Coleman of the family home; daughters, Darla Davidson and husband, Clint of McIntosh, NM and Terry Ladd of Albuquerque; sons, Matthew Coleman, Michael Coleman, and Marc Coleman, all of Albuquerque; 10 grandchildren; parents, Lorean Mackey and husband, Homer of Raton, NM; and brother, Larry Wingo and wife, Gwendolyn of Des Moines, NM. Mrs. Coleman was born in Raton and then moved to Albuquerque in 1962. She married Bud Coleman in 1977. Mrs. Coleman spent her life raising her five children. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all she met. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at Nancy¯s request. Interment of cremains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Cowles -- C. R. ¯Joe¯ Cowles, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2001. Estrada -- Daniel J. Estrada, 63, passed away March 18, 2001. He was a longtime resident of Bernalillo, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents Ramon Estrada and Margaret Ybarra. Daniel is survived by his sisters, Laura Dominguez, Angie Lopez and husband, Oscar, Martha Carrie Lucero and husband, Frank, Mary Louise Guajardo and husband, Paul; brother Rudy Estrada and wife Karen; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved and will miss him. Garcia -- Lois V. Garcia, 91, a lifetime resident of New Mexico died, Sunday, March 18, 2001. Garlin -- Russell A. Garlin, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Richards and husband, David of Albuquerque, NM; son, Russell A. Garlin, II and wife, Zoe of Gilbert, AZ; grandsons, Craig Richards and wife, Joyce of Albuquerque, Tom Garlin and wife, Kellee of Woodstock, MD, Ted Garlin and wife, Leslye of Germantown, MD and Bill Garlin of Gilbert, AZ; granddaughters, Liz Dahlinger and husband, Kent of Albuquerque and Susan Garlin of Chandler, AZ; great-grandchildren, Joshua Richards, Taryn Dahlinger, Austin Dahlinger, Emillee Garlin and Brooke Garlin and many nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Pauline Garlin. Russell was a member of the Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge in West Pittston, PA. He was an avid ham radio operator known as W5UKA and was a member of the Albuquerque Amateur Radio Club. Hedges -- Lola Mae Hedges, 95, beloved mother and grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2001. Lola was born in Noble County, Oklahoma on July 20, 1905. She married J. W. Hedges and moved to Pecos, NM, and shortly thereafter they started their company known as Hedges Oil Co. Together they grew the company to be the largest independent retail gasoline company in New Mexico. They sold the company to Standard Oil of Indiana. They moved to Albuquerque in 1937. Lola served her family, neighbors and community with endless hours of devotion. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 63 years and worked with the homeless at Central Place and NoonDay Ministry. Lola is survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Mary Vernon and husband, Kenny; sons, Dr. Don W. Hermanson -- Gordon Clyde Hermanson, Lt Col. USAF ret'd, a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Tuesday in a local hospital following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, in 1986. He is survived by his children, Karla Kristine Wonder; Paul Scott Hermanson and his wife, Mitzie; and Dale Lewis Hermanson, of the Fiji Islands; three granddaughters, Valerie Suzanne Hermanson; Shannon Carolyn Hermanson and Erica Kelly Hermanson, both of the Fiji Islands; his brother, Carroll L. Hermanson and his wife, Elaine, of Minnesota; and his beloved partner, Lucille Petersen. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Fitzgerald Chapel, 3113 Carlisle NE. Hunton -- Vera Orilla (Granny) Hunton, 86, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 17, 2001, while surrounded by her loving family. Granny had a great interest in her crocheting; she liked working with flowers and plants, especially"Texas Bluebonnets"; she was employed with the Albuquerque Public Schools cafeteria for several years; she was a very religious person. Most of her life was spent in New Mexico. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. We love you"Granny". She was preceded in death by her husband James; a son, Fred; and a daughter, Helen Leisure. Granny is survived by her loving children, James W. Key -- Beatrice (Sandy) Lavonne Key closed her eyes and went with the Lord on Monday March 19, 2001. Sandy 59, was a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years. She was born in Seminole, OK on Jan 2, 1942. Konitzer -- Monica Marie Konitzer, age 35, passed away in Albuquerque, NM, Friday, March 16, 2001 after a long illness. She was a graduate of St. Pius High School. Monica loved life to its fullest. She was an excellent cook. She loved her nephews and niece like her own. Monica was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Konitzer and sister, Cecelia Konitzer Sanchez. Monica will be forever missed and loved by all who knew her. Leon -- Florence Leon, 81, 15 year resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Boston, MA, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her three children, Rick Leon of Park City, UT, John and Margaret Leon-Danenbarger of Salem, MA and Scott and Karen Hinkle of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Mone and Raina Leon, James, Lisa and Andrea Materese, Whitney and Wade Hinkle; siblings, Grace Hattub, Michael Hattub and Joseph Hattub, all of Newport, RI and Adeline Gray of Stoughton, MA; and special caretakers, Judy Wroblewski and Yvonne Person. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Leon; daughter, Geraldine Materese; and sisters, Lorraine Jabbour and Nuzlie Catalini. She was an avid volunteer for the March of Dimes and Albuquerque Community Foundation for over eight years. Private services will be held in Boston. Lovato -- Mr. Michael David Lovato, born June 16, 1949, a native of Albuquerque has taken the hand of God, Our Lord, and is now at peace. He is survived by his parents, Mary Lovato of Cypress, CA and Mike Lovato of Albuquerque, Silvia Apodaca and Priscilla Aragon; daughter, Melanie Goens of Albuquerque; sons, David Lovato of Albuquerque and Tobias Lovato of Cypress, CA; brothers, Paul Lovato of Moreno Valley, CA, James Lovato of Bernalillo and Phillip Lovato of Albuquerque; sisters, Carol Perez of La Palma, CA, Jeanette Garcia, of San Juan Capistrano, CA and Elizabeth Latten of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, Kyle Lovato, Elizabeth Goens and Alec Michael Lovato Gurule. Paniagua -- Evarista (Eva) Paniagua, 71, beloved wife, mother and grandmother was called home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 18, 2001. Eva was born in Vinton, TX and was a resident of Albuquerque; she was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church; she was an incredible cook who enjoyed cooking for her family. Her hobbies were embroidering; doll collecting; and shopping at antique shops. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jess Paniagua; her children, Roger Paniagua and wife, Yolanda of Albuquerque, Lucy Freeman of San Bernardino, CA, Luis Paniagua of Colton, CA; and a step-son, Michael Castillo of San Diego, CA; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Peterson -- Elizabeth Peterson, 98, of the Sterling House in Urbandale, died March 13 of a heart ailment. The body was cremated and no services are planned. Burial will be at a later date at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque, N.M. Elizabeth Peterson was born in Boone. She graduated from Iowa State University and taught in Iowa. She was the County Extension Agent in Webster County and a part of the Home Economics Extension staff at Iowa State University in 1935. She moved to Wilmington, Del. to work for DuPont in public relations and retired in 1968 and moved to Albuquerque, N.M. She was a member of AAWW, Delta Zeta sorority, Home Economists in Business, Who's Who of American Women, Plaza of Heroines, ISU Chapter AH, and PEO of Albuquerque, N.M. She had conducted speeches across the United States on fabric development. She loved to travel and collected antique glass. She is survived by one sister, Marcia Watson of Johnston; three nieces and two nephews. One niece, Judith Carlson, is from Albuquerque. Sherman -- Dorothy E. Sherman, 83, a resident of Albuquerque for 18 years, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2001. She was born to Charles and Elizabeth Dean Field on October 9, 1917 in Taunton, MA. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frederick L. Sherman; her son, Dr. Frederick C. Sherman and wife, Sam of Albuquerque; her daughter, Susan E. Sherman of Philadelphia; and grandchildren, Dr. Kristen K. Sherman of San Francisco, F. James Sherman of London, Nicole Jennifer Rosenberg of Boston and Sarah Elizabeth Rosenberg of Baltimore. Dorothy graduated from Bridgewater, MA., State Teacher¯s College in 1939. She married in 1940 and raised her family in Taunton, MA and Cranston, RI. She received a MA in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College and returned to teaching 4th and 5th grade in Cranston, in addition to serving as the Vice Principal at Glen Hills Elementary School. She taught for 25 years winning many awards for her excellence in teaching. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2001, 10:00a.m. at French Mortuary, Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Road NW, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield, Officiating.
