Aguilar -- Ramon R. Aguilar, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Saturday, October 13, 2001. Ramon was a resident of Bernalillo; a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church; he was a proud World War II Veteran; and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ramon worked for Sandia Base as a Security Guard from July 30, 1956 till he retired on June 30, 1978. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin R. Aguilar; a grandson, Chris Aguilar; three brothers, Desiderio, Monico and Ernie Aguilar; and two sisters, Antonia and Tomasita. Ramon is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Stella Aguilar of the family home; his son, Charles J. Aguilar and wife, Barbara of Bernalillo; a daughter-in-law, Mannie Aguilar; his precious grandchildren, Lawrence, Charles, Martin Jr. and Roberta; one great-grandson, Joseph; three nephews which he considered as sons, Lawrence Navarro, Tony Navarro and Jerry Nieto. Survivors also include his sisters, Aneda Aguilar, Maria Feliciana Dominguez and husband, Dan, Consuelo Montoya and husband, Sefe; brothers, Desiderio Aguilar and wife, Juliette, David Aguilar and Vicky, and Johnny Aguilar and wife, Frances; two sisters-in-law, Anita Miera and Lala Aguilar; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ramon will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. at our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Lawrence Aguilar, Charles R. Aguilar, Martin Aguilar Jr., David Aguilar, Desiderio Aguilar, Johnny Aguilar, Tony Navarro and Lawrence Navarro. Aragon -- David A. Aragon, 47, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend and a resident of Albuquerque since 1973, died Sunday, October 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rose Aragon; daughter, Joslynn Aragon and significant other, Nic DeHerrera; son, Antonio Aragon, all of Albuquerque; parents, Rafael and Pauline Aragon of Santa Fe, NM; brothers, Leroy Aragon and finance, Grace of LaMessilla, NM, Michael Aragon and wife, Sylvia of Pecos, NM, Ralph Aragon and wife, Anna of Albuquerque and Peter Aragon and finance, Carmela of Santa Fe; sister-in-laws, Diana Rivera and husband, Floyd and Elizabeth Lovato and husband, Jerry, all of Santa Fe; his dog, Noche; and numerous relatives, friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete and Erlinda Sandoval. David loved hunting, fishing and the Denver Broncos. Barela -- Mr. Victor Barela, 51, a resident of Albuquerque and formally of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on October 12, 2001. Mr. Barela is the beloved husband of 30 years to Mrs. Margie Barela. He is also survived by his two loving daughters, Jerri Barela-Phillips and husband, Stephen of Pine Hill, New Mexico and Toni Barela, of Albuquerque; one grand daughter, Shea Phillips; five sisters, Connie Barela of Las Vegas, NM, Anna Vasquez and husband, Albert of West Minister, Colorado, Pauline Whittit and husband Rick of Colorado, Elizabeth Barela of Las Vegas, NM and Rose Barela of Las Vegas, NM; three brothers, Frank Barela of Las Vegas, NM, Richard Barela of Albuquerque and Anthony Barela of Las Vegas, NM; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Candelaria -- Samuel Candelaria. Beloved husband and devoted father, grandfather and brother went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 14, 2001, at home surrounded by his family. He passed on after a long and valiant struggle. He was a model of generosity, kindness and nobility. We cherished him and were privileged to have cared for him during his illness. His legacy of love will endure through all the lives of those he touched. Samuel was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque's North Valley. He was born in Los Griegos on October 6, 1924 to Rosaura Jaramillo-Candelaria and Aurelio Candelaria. He was one of eight children. Samuel enlisted in the Army and served his country in WWII in the Army's 5th Infantry Division. He participated in the June 6, 1944, invasion of Normandy, France. He received the Purple Heart having been wounded in Luxemburg on January 21.1945. He received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat. He was also awarded "The Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty" by the French Government for his participation in the Liberation of France. Upon his return home, he asked for Neome's hand in marriage. On October 7, 2001, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Samuel then began a 45 year career of federal service retiring from the United States Post Office in 1988. Samuel was a lifetime member of both the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He also had a passion for all sports, particularly baseball. He played for many years as a catcher in the Twilight League for the Hawks, Macaron and Wells' Supermarket. Samuel enjoyed Senior Softball well into his 70's. He and his wife, Neome enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with their children and grandchildren. He took a great joy in doing things for his family and friends. Samuel was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where he served in many capacities over the years including Marriage Enrichment Program, Sponsors for Engaged Couples, Usher, lector, and president of the parish council. He was currently serving as treasurer of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Samuel is preceded in death by his son, Edward Paul; and his brother, Perfecto. He is survived by his wife, Neome; his children, Christina Candelaria, Candice DeMar and husband, Dan, Sam and wife, Marcella, Carol Ann Candelaria and husband, Nick Fillah, Patrick and wife, Diana, Mary Margaret Hartley and husband, Van, Consuelo Candelaria-Barry and husband, Kevin; and 12 grandchildren, Santiago, Danielle, Catherine and husband, Dax Lujan, Elizabeth, Nathan, Sara, Gabriel, Jared, Rosanne, Armando, Dustin and Capree. Also survived by Rosela Garcia and husband, Epifano, Frances Candelaria, widow of Perfecto, Margaret Garcia and husband, Richard, Ambrosio Candelaria and wife, Anita, Josefita Barreras and husband Benny. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with full military honors provided by the DAV and The Military Order of the Purple Heart. Carter -- Lee Carter, 84, Commander, USNR (Ret.), a resident of Rio Rancho and formerly of Kirkwood, MO, passed away on October 13, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Janet Clark Carter; his sons, Robert Clark Carter and Thomas Lee Carter, both of Denver; his daughter, Margaret Carter Ludewig, of Corrales; and six grandchildren. Lee was a chemical engineer. He served his country in the Navy during WWII using his chemical engineering and explosives training as an explosives research officer. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be announced. Lee will be buried with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery.

Chavez -- Adelino "Abe" F. Chavez, 73, went home with the Lord on October 14, 2001. He was born in Willard, NM on July 30, 1928. Mr. Chavez was the founder of Abe's Glass and Glazing in Albuquerque and Socorro. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa G. Chavez. Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife, Rosa S. Chavez; two sons, Jerry Chavez and fiancé Josie Barboa, Anthony Chavez and wife Debi; four daughters, Bernadette Lloyd, Kathy Saavedra and husband Fred, Viola Morones and husband, Randy and Rosemarie Olguin; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five stepsons, Raymond Sigala, Phil Sigala and wife, Valerie, Roger Sigala, Alfred Sigala and wife, Patricia and Ben Sigala; three stepdaughters, Virginia Valencia, Frances Munoz and husband Eulogio and Rita Sigala. Mr. Chavez will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Cordova -- Frank A. Cordova, 72, a resident of Rio Rancho for over 40 years, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2001. Frank was born June 5, 1929 in Arizona. He served his country in the US Army and Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict. Frank loved boxing and was a boxer in the Navy. He was the owner of Franks Masonry Incorporated for over 40 years, and owner of Rio Rancho Stone for 20 years. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Cordova; ten children, Steve Troglia, Rick, Shea, Darren, Shawn Cordova, Randy Blatt, Tammy Shaffer, Craig Blatt, Brian Haynam, and Shannon Gleason; 16 grandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters. Crooks -- Lily M. (Baca, Bond) Crooks, a lifelong New Mexican, and one of the few angels on earth, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2001. She was born May 4, 1925 in Las Vegas, NM to Helena and Ignacio Baca, Sr. Lily was married to Oberly Bond who preceded her in death in May, 1958. She later married James Crooks, who also preceded her in death in November, 1989. She is survived by her children, James Oberly Bond and wife, Charlene, and Sylvia Anne Kinkaid and husband, Roger. Lily also leaves behind two grandchildren, Amanda Kinkaid and Heath Kinkaid, as well as her brother, Ignacio Baca, Jr. and wife, Rosie, and her sister, Helen Regensberg and husband, Leroy, and countless family and friends. Lily was an incomparable wife, mother and friend. Her devotion for her loved ones and compassion for people earned her the respect and adoration of everyone she knew. Dolan -- Helen V. Dolan, 82, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 13, with her family and loved ones at her side. Helen was born in New York City, the daughter of Raymond and Catherine (Teller) Glover both of New York City. Helen is survived by her sister, Ann Turtell, and brother, Ray Glover both of New York City, and three sons, Daniel R. Dolan, a local attorney, and his wife, Carol, V. William Dolan, Jr., a local bank officer, and his wife, Kathie, Kevin P. Dolan, a systems analyst for Intel and his wife, Natalie. Helen also leaves seven grandchildren, Sean, Becky, Drew and Kaela Dolan and Chris Conger, Susan Vest, and Catherine Davis in Albuquerque, San Diego, San Jose, Pinetop, AZ, Tuscumbia and Montgomery, AL, plus seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. All the sons are longtime residents of Albuquerque. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Vincent Dolan, Sr. (USAF ret.). Helen and Vince were married during WWII when he was a B-24 pilot in North Africa and Italy. She traveled the world with her husband, a career military officer, and settled in Albuquerque in the 1950s. Helen was active in the Catholic Church; first at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and later, Church of the Risen Savior. She was a longtime member of the Retired Officers Wives at Kirtland AFB, the Dominican Retreat League, Alter League, and Pedal Pushers Garden Club. She was a master garden for a period of years and took great pride in her garden and flowers. In addition to gardening, quilting and children were large in her life for years. We will all miss your kind and quiet support and prayers. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00 a.m. Helen will rest beside her husband, Vince, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe later in the week. Embree -- Raymonde "Josiane" Embree, 59, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed away on October 15, 2001. She is survived by her two sons, David Embree and wife, Tate of Virginia and John Embree of Albuquerque; her daughter, Graziella Singleton and husband, Dennis of Hawaii; grandchildren, Sara and Jessica Embree of Florida, Adam D. Embree and MaCayla Servais of Virginia, and Austin, Alexandra and Adam T. Embree all of Albuquerque; sister, Regine Marigo of France; uncle, Jules Marigo of France; niece and nephew, Valerie and Patrick Balduini and numerous other relatives on Embree side of the family. Josiane was employed as an R.N. at Lovelace Hospital for 20+ years, after Lovelace Hospital, she went to work for the V.A. Hospital for 10+ years. She had a very special way she cared for her patients which is reflected by the number of calls of support the family has received. Estes -- Etta Estes, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990, died Sunday, October 14, 2001. She is survived by her sisters, Mattie Hunter and husband, Cecil of Sun City West, AZ, Florence Hunter and husband, John, Jessie Rinks, all of Albuquerque and Berta Schmidtke and husband, John of Sun City West, AZ; sisters-in-law, Leota Wood of Clayton, NM, Goldie Wood of Huntsville, AR and Gladys Wood of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law, Hugh Cosby, of Sun City West, AZ and Joe Loghry of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; stepsons, Roger Estes and wife, Sheila and Robert Estes, all of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Eunice Kinney of Artesia, NM; several step-grandchildren; and many friends. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clyde Painter and Claude Estes; brothers, Roy, Ralph and Raymond Wood; and two sisters, Melvina Loghry and Floy Cosby. Etta was a librarian at Belen High School for ten years and retired from the School for the Blind in Alamogordo. She was very active with the Methodist Church and their Women's Missionary organizations. Etta graduated high school in Clayton, NM and was valedictorian of her class, Panhandle A & M, in Goodwill, Oklahoma. She received a library science degree from UNM. Her memberships included the New Mexico Retired Teachers Association, the American Association of University Women, the New Mexico Conference Library Association of the Methodist Church and Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society. Helton -- Thomas Helton-Gaynor, 76, a resident of McIntosh, NM, and formally a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, October 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, La Verne Gaynor of McIntosh; son, David Gaynor, of Albuquerque; sister, Ruby Jones, of Tennessee; and brother, Bob Helton of Ottawa, Canada. Mr. Helton-Gaynor was the owner and operator of Atlas Transmissions in Albuquerque for 36 years. He was an avid golfer, sports fan and car enthusiast and genuinely loved life. Jones -- George Wesley Jones, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1969 died on Friday, October 12, 2001 while in the loving and compassionate care of Sandia Hospice In-Patient Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 94 years young. Mr. Jones was born on February 15, 1907 in Inman, Kansas the son of George Wesley Jones, Sr. and Marie (Finch) Jones. He attended the University of Kansas where he distinguished himself on the University of Kansas Jayhawk track team. He was also a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1933 with a BA in Economics. Additionally, Mr. Jones was a Free Mason and a member of the Shrine. Following a short business apprenticeship with the Ford Motor Company in California, he traveled to Shanghai, China where he was the advertising agent for Comacrib Press. His assignments there took him to many countries throughout the Far East. Then he was an Instructor of History and Mathematics and Director of Athletics at the Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, Korea. In 1935, he joined the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Seoul, Korea as Assistant Office Manager where he supervised the activities of the central office staff. He was also responsible for sales and promotions work in Korea and Manchuria, China. In 1939, he was transferred to the United States because of war conditions in the Far East. He joined the Cincinnati, Ohio branch of Singer Sewing Machine Company and served in the capacity of Regional Auditor for Singer¯s Branch Offices. In 1942, he was appointed as a Special Agent for Foreign Funds Control, United States Treasury Department. He subsequently joined the US Army Intelligence Corps and served the remainder of WW II in the Far East supporting military activities there. During post-hostility occupation of both Korea and Japan, he served on General MacArthur's staff. In 1946, he rejoined the Far East Division of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. He spent two years at the New York headquarters training and was subsequently assigned as Office Manager for Singer in Shanghai, China. He rose through the managerial ranks of Singer serving as General Manager for Singer's operations in Japan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. He retired and moved to Albuquerque in 1969. He was married on July 16, 1936 to Rachel (Glenn) Jones who died on November 3, 1970 in Albuquerque. He then married Eula (Cole) Jones on February 14, 1973. He is survived by his wife, Eula of Albuquerque; his daughter Jackie, his son-in law, Dan March; two grandsons, David March and Steven March and their wives, Stacey and Tracy all residing in Northern Virginia; his sister, Esther Rauh, who currently resides in St. Charles, Missouri. His stepchildren are Jack Cole and his wife, Barbara of Farmington, New Mexico; Carole Nickell and her husband, Bill of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jimmy Cole and his wife, Barbara of Wichita, Kansas. He also has 12 step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. Melendez -- Daniel C."Danny" Melendez, age 54 and lifelong resident of Albuquerque, continued his journey on Friday, October 12 2001, following a long battle with cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Danny's generous and kind spirit is carried on by Josephine, his loving wife of 32 years; his daughter Elizabeth of Atlanta, Ga,; father Jose Cardenas; foster mother Pauline Ornelas; sisters Gloria Miller of Waterford, Calif., and Helen Marianello of Oceanside, Calif.; and many friends who loved and respected him. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 17 at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 318 Silver Ave., SE where he had been employed for the past six years. A reception will follow at St. John's Kaseman Hall. Mohr -- Jerry A. Mohr, 76, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2001. Jerry was born July 26, 1925 the son of Arden and Nettie Vance Mohr in Metamora, Ohio. Jerry had been a school teacher, teaching in the Junior and Senior High Schools. He loved to golf, and was a member of the Rio Rancho Country Club, member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. in Michigan, belonged to the Michigan Education Association, and served his country in the US Air Force. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Clare, of Rio Rancho; three daughters, Teri DePlonty and husband, John of Escanaba, MI., Susan Mohr and husband, Ken of Lansing, MI., and Betty Fallstich and husband, Rick of Maryland; five grandchildren, Michael, Alan, Jessica, Erich, and Chelsea. Strohl -- Merritt Barton Strohl (Bart) July 28, 1934 - October 12 ,2001Bart was born in Paradise Township, PA. after his graduation from Easton High School, Bart joined the Air Force and was stationed in Korea. He was discharged in 1960 in Albuquerque and attened UNM for his music and teaching degree. Bart had many interests including a 32nd Degree Mason, the Second Gear Racing Club, American Legion Post 13 Drum and Bugle Corp. Bart performed for Music Theater, ACLOA, and Vortex Theatre. Bart was musically active with Die Polka Schlingles, and various other musical groups including SPEBSQSA Barber Shop singing. He was also the founder, director, and instructor of the Mid-Rio Grande Homeschool Band. (He was very proud of all his students.) Bart owned Uncle Bart's Music Shoppe. and was the consumate paternal figure. He is survived by his children; Mark , Barbara and husband Mark, William, and Joseph and wife Nancy Strohl. He is also survived by his dear friend and former wife, Roz Strohl, his mother Jean Strohl, sister Diane and husband David Funk, his grandchildren Adam, Alyssa, Tara and Jennie, and his neices and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his family, many friends, and students. Bart was truely the"Leader of the Band". Shalom, and Thank you from all of us. Trujillo -- Mrs. Ernestine (Tina) Trujillo, 69, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 14, 2001. Mrs. Trujillo is the beloved wife of 37 years to Mr. Felix Trujillo. She is also survived by her two loving daughters, Andrea Bonney and husband, Ronnie and Marti Gurule; one sister, Irene Castillo and husband, Nap; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one uncle, Rueben Sanchez and wife, Terry; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Valdez -- Ramon Eduardo Valdez, age 51, lifetime Tucumcari, NM resident, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, October 11, 2001 following a brief illness. Ramon was born September 25, 1950 in Rainsville, NM. He was employed with the New Mexico Veteran's Service Commission of 28 years and retired on September 28, 2001. He was a board member of the Father Hammond's Scholarship Fund, a member of the Delfido Gonzales VFW Post 2528, a member of the American Legion Post #20, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was an 18 years member of the Selective Service Board. He was a lifetime member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church. Surviving Ramon Valdez is his wife, Margarita of Tucumcari, NM; three sons, Armando Valdez and family of Tucumcari, Christopher Valdez and wife, Heather of Tucumcari, and Anthony Valdez and wife, Joella of Clovis, NM; three grandchildren; five sisters, Lupe Marquez, Lila Aragon and Ruperta Tafoya all of Albuquerque, Eva Archuleta of Las Vegas, NM, and Annie Regansburg of Santa Fe, NM; three brothers, Fares and Julian Rains of Las Vegas, NM and Manuel Valdez of Texas; several nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited in the St. Anne's Catholic Church on Tuesday evening, October 16, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. with Mass of the Resurrection being offered on Wednesday morning, October 17, 2001 at 8:30 a.m. in the St. Anne's Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. John C. Daniel of St. Anne's Catholic Church as Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Bill Villanueva, Sal Dimacali, Rick Apodaca, Eric Martinez, Dwayne Austin and Johnny Marquez. Villane -- Gerald "Jerry" Villane passed away Thursday, October 11, 2001 after a brave battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Villane; three children from his first marriage with Carmella Villane, Michael Villane and wife, Cheryl of Corinth, TX, Susan Linhart and husband, Mac of San Angelo, TX, and Scott Villane and wife, Candy of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Aimee and Valerie Villane, Jeff Sill, Alexandria and Lucas Linhart; and brother, Joseph Villane and wife, Virginia of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Catherine Villane and brother, Jimmy Villane. Jerry was born January 20, 1932 in Milford, NH. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Currituck. Jerry was employed at Sandia National Laboratories from 1958 to 1988. Following his retirement from Sandia, he was employed with the US Air Force at Kirtland AFB until 1996. Woods -- Lowell Groberg Woods, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Sunday, October 14, 2001. He is survived by his son, Richard L. Woods and wife Barbara of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Joan Chapel and her husband, William, and Jean Armijo, all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Jennifer Bliss and her husband, John, Jeffrey Woods and wife, Lisa, Lowell Conley and wife, Stacey, Sharon Chapel, and Cathy Chapel-Copher and her husband, David; six great-grandchildren, David, Alexis, Matthew, C.J., Sean and Katheryn Helen; brother, Parker J. Woods and wife, Lucille and sister-in-law, Marjorie McVicker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen; sisters, Antonette, Nell, Dorothy and Velis; and one brother, Francis. Mr. Woods was a graduate of Utah State University. He worked for 40 years with the USDA Forest Service and his assignments included working in the Western United States and Washington, D.C. Mr. Woods retired as Director of the Watershed Management, Southwest Region in 1969. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. Mr. Woods was also a member of the Society For Range Management. Gardening, fishing and golfing kept him in the outdoors he loved so much. Mr. Woods was a grand storyteller and a true gentlemen. Services will be held Thursday, October 18, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Chester T.
