BENAVIDEZ, MARIO M. Mario Miguel Benavidez went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 30, 2014. He had a brilliant mind and the golden and courageous heart of a LION. He loved with passion and was loved passionately by his wife, three beautiful daughters, and everyone who was blessed with his one-of-a-kind way of establishing deep relationships with others. He spent endless afternoons at the park with his three daughters and cooked breakfast for them daily. He used his 2004 UNM law degree to counsel many friends and family and answered his calling to strengthen the struggling and underserved through his service on the YDI Board of Directors, as an advocate for access to justice, working for NM Voices for Children, in running a youth detention center mentorship program, as an actor in many local theater productions, and in being such a revered friend to so many. He was a hero to his daughters, his wife, his twin brother Javier (who he consoled on the first day of preschool by reading to), his Mom, and the countless lives in which he had a deeply positive impact. He was predeceased by his Dad Eddie Benavidez and dear cousin Hector DeLeon, several uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his soul-mate wife Sylvia; his three treasured daughters Naylani (4), Giada (2), and Milania (1); his sacred twin brother Javier; his unconditionally loving Mama Margaret; his adoring in-laws Sylvi and Bella; and many cherished friends and families too numerous to list but not forgotten. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, Feb. 8th at 9:00AM at Victory Outreach Church of Albuquerque, 1404 Lead Ave SE, ABQ, NM 87106. He will be laid to rest at 11:30AM at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, ABQ, NM 87102, followed by a gathering for all friends and family at 12:30PM at the Wool Warehouse in Downtown Albuquerque, 516 1st Street. Mario genuinely loved others, is now loving arms of Jesus and will be surrounding us all, especially his three beloved little ones, with his remarkable strength going forward. Gifts to the "Benavidez Family Fund" at www.ydinm.org will help support his wife and three young daughters going forward.

REX, GORDON ELMER passed away on January 31, 2014 at his home in Los Lunas, New Mexico. He was born on March 30, 1934 in Orefield, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Henry and Grace Alice Rex, as well as eight brothers, David, Kermit, John, Ruben, Herbert, Carlton, Wilmer, and Luther Rex. He is survived by his loving partner, Marilyn Stokes; sisters, Arlene Marsteller and Betty Brunner; children, Gordon Rex and wife Lynn, Sandra Masters, Linda Fenstermaker, Gary Rex, Terry Rex and wife Lisa, Jeff Zellner and wife Shelly, Michele Swartz and husband John, Allison Kim and husband Billy, Brad Zellner, Preston Rex and wife Michele, Shirley Gomez and husband Adam, and Mike Dicus and wife Sarah; as well as 40 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Gordon was born, raised, and lived in Pennsylvania until he moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1970. He eventually moved to Valencia County in 1985 where he resided until the time of his passing. When he wasn't enjoying his large family Gordon spent much of his time fixing cars, diesel trucks, farm and construction equipment, pretty much anything on wheels. He was a mechanic by trade and owned many of his own businesses, one of them being Rex Automotive. With his vast knowledge of mechanics and great patience he also taught many others the trade he loved so much. Fittingly, Gordons' greatest love besides his family was being involved with car racing at local dirt tracks. He raced cars himself, sponsored other racers, and was willing to help in any way; if it had to do with dirt racing Gordon was involved. As well as dirt racing he also took on the task of collecting, rebuilding, then selling classic cars. His passion for all things automotive was only one of the things Gordon enjoyed. He also spent his time playing guitar with friends and family, a love he passed on to some of his sons. Gordon was greatly loved and will be missed immensely. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Los Lunas. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday February 9, 2014 at Duncan Memorial Building #8 La Ladera, Los Lunas, NM 87031.

SMITH, MICHAEL WILLIAM (SMITTY) April 28, 1956 - February 5, 2013 It's been one year and not a morning goes by I don't wake up and you are my first thought and not a night goes by that I don't fall asleep missing you. "I wish Heaven had a phone so I could hear your voice again. I though of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and the days before too. I think of you in silence and I often speak your name. All I have are memories and a photo in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake from which I will never part. God has you in his arms and I will have you always in my heart... Love Forever Stacie

Stewart grew up Stamford, CT, the eldest son of Leon and Ethel Tuttle, brother of Larry, husband of Dorothy, father of Cheryl, and grandfather of Cristine, He passed away during the early hours at home in Anderson South Carolina from cancer. WACLAWCZYK, MARY ESTELLE SISTER May 20, 1929 - February 3, 2014 During a rare and beautiful snowfall, Sister Mary Estelle Waclawczyk passes away on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent in Rio Rancho, NM. She was born on May 20, 1929, to William (Willy) and Mary Lee (Dzuik) Waclawczyk of Cestohowa, TX, and was named Edna at Baptism. Edna received her grade school education through the Felician Sisters and by the time she made her First Holy Communion, she had made her decision to become one of them. On July 2, 1943, she traveled to Chicago, IL to begin the first step of this choice as a High School Student at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Upon her graduation in 1947, she entered the Felician Order in Chicago. In 1949 she began her 51 year classroom teaching ministry with a combination of second and third graders. For the next consecutive 21 years she taught either two or three grades at a time. Sister's education ministry sites included Chicago, IL; St. Hedwig, Cestohowa, Panna Maria, Bremond and San Antonio, TX; Aston and Exeter, NE; and Arcadia and Claremont, CA. To this day, her former students, as well as parents, remember their "best teacher" with visits or some other form of communication. Sister did not stop after 51 years in the classroom but when she was transferred to Rio Rancho, she quickly channeled her education skills to tutoring at St. Felix Pantry. Sister Estelle was also an accomplished seamstress and baker. She is well known for her many and varied crochet projects. In addition to her teaching, she also served as sacristan in most of her teaching locations as well as during her years in Rio Rancho. In all things, Sister Estelle was a perfectionist and all her gifts and skills were used to the best of her ability to make life easier and more pleasant for others. Sister had a special gift for growing violets and every year she would start as many plants as she had students so that every child she taught could present their mother with a potted blooming plant on Mother's Day. One of her most cherished experiences was to visit Poland and to kneel on the same kneeler which Bl. Angela had used for adoration. In addition to her strong devotion to Bl. Angela, Sister was a person of prayer who was mindful of the suffering and the needs of others as she prayer for the needs of the world. Sister Estelle was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Frank, and her sisters Magdalene Urbanczyk and Emma Opiela. She is survived by her sister Susie Skloss and brother Otto Waclawczyk and wife Gladys and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
