CHAVEZ -- Edith (Vallejos) Chavez, age 69, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. She was born on November 27, 1938, in Albuquerque, NM, and remained a resident of Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Soilo Vallejos and Demetria (Sanchez) Vallejos; and her brother, Paul Padilla. Edith is survived by her loving partner, Juan Gurule; sons, Jake Chavez and wife, Mary, of Tijeras, NM, and Leo Chavez, of Albuquerque; daughters, Carla Chavez, of Pecos NM, Sandra Pacheco and husband, Lawrence, Nancy Chavez, of Albuquerque, and Renee Christian and husband, Dwayne, of Edgewood; 22 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Willie Padilla and Tito Padilla; and sisters, Elma Apodaca, Kathy Padilla, and Sarah Padilla, all of Albuquerque. DANIELS -- Fillmore Watt Daniels, age 85, was born in Gallion, LA, on October 16, 1922. He passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on July 17, 2008. A long-time resident of Albuquerque, he spent 27 years in the Army, serving in the Pacific in WWII and during Korea and Vietnam. A gifted singer and performer, he entertained the troops for many years. Fillmore graduated from the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and recorded radio commercials for the Armed Forces in the 1940's. When singing, he was often accompanied by Andre Previn. After retiring from the Army, he went on to a second career with the US Postal Service. He was an avid Lady Lobo Fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Ann Daniels; son, Michael and wife Gloria; daughter, Mary Beth and husband J.R. Duncan, daughter Nancy, daughter, Jean and partner Kathy Moore, daughter, Laurie and husband Michael Finnegan; son, James and wife Susan, and daughter Barbara Vittitoe. He is survived by five grandchildren: Elora Daniels, Matthew Daniels, Patrick Daniels-Duncan, Mia Daniels, and Colin Finnegan. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Carstens and husband Allan; brother, Ross Jameson and wife Pat; sister-in-law Gerry Cimino; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, daughter Kathleen and son Patrick. Fillmore will be Buried with Patrick at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with full military honors. DECKER -- Diana Decker of Edgewood, NM passed away from breast cancer on July 15, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born August 7, 1963 in Fort Sill, OK, where her father was stationed in the Army. Her parents moved back to Albuquerque later that year. She grew up in Albuquerque, graduated from Valley High School in 1981, and participated in a women's soccer league after high school. Diana was employed by the Albuquerque Journal for 22 years. She moved to the East Mountain area in 1999. Diana became interested in training dogs early in life, starting in 4-H. She was very successful in the Obedience ring and Agility Arena. In 1992, she began training her Australian Shepherd, Suzy, to work cattle, sheep, and ducks and received her first Working Trial Champion. She loved her dogs like they were her children, and her training talents led to many titles and championships on Australian Shepherds, Australian Kelpies, Border Collies and other herding breeds. She was nationally known for her skill in training dogs and teaching other dog handlers to train their dogs to work stock. She became an accomplished dog handler in the United States Border Collie Handlers Association, Australian Shepherd Club of America and American Kennel Club trials. She was a judge in the American Herding Breeds Association and judged many trials. She also qualified dogs for the National Stockdog Finals, placing her dogs in the top ten in the nation. Her training led to travel to Canada and to Western Australia in 2006. Being the first American Handler to visit Australia, she conducted a stockdog training clinic and taught private lessons. She also visited several Australian sheepdog contests. This was her life's passion. Diana loved all animals as evidenced by the variety at her home. She was an expert on geese, ducks, chickens, and other fowl. Many people came to her home to work sheep, cattle, and ducks in her facilities. Diana is survived by her life partner, Robert Campbell; her father, Darrell Decker and wife Patti; her mother, Geneva Faus and husband Robert; sister, Dewette Decker; brothers, Darren, Dane, her other brother, Ryan Morris, her other sister, Brittini Gabaldon, and numerous relatives, friends and her beloved working dogs. Numerous friends across the United States and Australia will deeply miss her. That'll do, Diana Decker, good job. Friends and relatives are invited to a pot luck Memorial Celebration of Diana's life to be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Estancia. The church is located on the North end of Estancia, on the East side of Highway 41. It is a white building with a red roof. GARRISON -- Brad O'Don Garrison, a resident of Albuquerque for over 40 years, died July 15, 2008 in his home in Ruidoso, where he lived since retiring in 2007. He was born October 17, 1952 in Oklahoma City and was the loving son of John Garrison and Betty Mazzio. He graduated from Manzano High School in 1970 and later attended New Mexico State University. He owned Southwestern Dental lab from 1977 to 2007. Mr. Garrison leaves to cherish his memory; his adoring wife, Sandy; his parents, John Garrison and Betty Mazzio; step-father, Frank Mazzio; step-mother, Babs Garrison; younger brother, Gregg; son, Chad Garrison; daughter, Julie Garrison and her partner Paul Cervantes; step-daughter, Shelby Fields; and son-in-law, Dustin Fields. Brad will be known as a man that had a zest for life and lived every day to the fullest. He was an avid golfer and was well known throughout New Mexico. His children considered him their hero and, along with the rest of his family, loved him deeply. He was well respected, loved, and admired by his friends and peers as well. Throughout his life, his generosity touched the lives of many. He had a tremendous influence on all those who knew him and will be missed and never forgotten. MATA -- George Diaz Mata, born April 13, 1918, in San Antonio, TX, was called home by our Father on July 16, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife Luka K. Mata in April 2008. George is survived by five loving children, Mary Alice K. Ayze of Albuquerque, NM, George K.K. Mata of San Diego, CA, Richard K.K. Mata of St. Anne, IL, Roberto T. Mata and Ricardo M. Mata both of San Antonio, TX. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and countless others who became part of his family through deep loving relationships. MATHIS -- Brenda Kay Watley Mathis, 58, after a long illness went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Brenda is preceded in death by her mother, Lou Edith Watley. She is survived by six siblings; Billy Watley and wife, Lequita of Columbus, Georgia, Bobby Watley and wife, Shirley of Klamath Falls, OR, Dottie Watley Hatchell and husband, Mike of Albuquerque, Linda Watley Sanders and husband, Richard of Smith Station, AL, Allan Watley of Pittsview, AL, Gloria Watley Steinhausen and husband, Dick of Phenix City, AL: seven nieces, eight nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and her loving dog, Gus. Brenda, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1982, was a native of Columbus, GA. She graduated from Baker High School, and received her undergraduate degree from Columbus State University. After receiving her Master's Degree from the University of GA, Summa Cum Laude, she moved to Albuquerque to accept a position with the State of New Mexico as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, where she was recognized for her high standard of achievement in providing counseling services to her clients. She ended her working career at Goodwill Industries of New Mexico, where she tested and diagnosed others with disabilities. PAPPAS -- Angeline "Angie" Pappas, 99, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Angeline was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Anthony J. Pappas; and son, Dean Pappas. She is survived by her children, Elaine Arapostathis, Anna Maria Chappell, John Pappas and wife, Becky, and George Pappas; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Pappas; nine grandchildren, Shaun Chappell, Kimberly Chappell, Evan Arapostathis, Mark Arapostathis, Kris Trotman, Toni Brandt, Dean Pappas II, AJ Pappas and Alexia Pappas; great-grandchildren, Ellen Trotman, Tyler Trotman, Grace Brandt, Max Brandt, Eleni Arapostathis, Alexandra Arapostathis, and Arianna Pappas. Angie was born in Sparta, Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1921 and has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1945. Angie will always be remembered for her spirit, humor, faith, and love. PICKLE -- Jose "Joe" Pickle, age 69, born in Nueva Casa's Grandes, Mexico and a resident of Los Lunas, NM passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008. Joe was most proud of his grandson, Mathew who he loves and helped raise from an early age, his nephews and nieces, his early involvement with sports especially bowling where he achieved many trophies and awards. He loved being a Raiders fan, going to the racetrack and being with his family especially on Sundays. Joe's strong, intimidating voice would fill a room, but also express his love and compassion. Many remember Joe Pickle as the Owner and Manager of the kitchen at Gino's Restaurant on Coors and Hanover from 1972 to 1992. The Pickle family would like to thank Phil "Felipe" Jackson for his friendship and support." WATSON -- Roseabel "Rose" Watson, 76, passed away July 16, 2008 at a local nursing center in Abilene, TX. May 9, 1932, Rose was born the daughter of the late Francis Marion Jenkins and Lorein (Tune) Jenkins in Waxahachie, TX. She graduated from North Texas High School in Denton, TX in 1947. In 1952, Rose graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelor's Degree and furthered her education, graduating with her Master's Degree in Elementary Education in 1957. During that time she married Bill Watson in Fort Worth, TX on June 27, 1953. Rose lived in Albuquerque, NM for 33 years where she taught school for 24 years in the Albuquerque Public School District. She was a member of Mountainside Church of Christ in Albuquerque. In 2005, Rose and Bill moved to Abilene, TX, where they are members of Southern Hills Church of Christ. Rose was a faithful Christian woman who loved the Lord. She loved her family, and was a devoted teacher who loved her students. As a teacher, she was interested in developing the whole child. She loved to travel with her husband. They traveled many beautiful places on various cruises. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Lorein Jenkins; one son, Tony Mark Watson in 2007; one brother, "Buddy" Jenkins; and one sister, Gloria Jenkins. Rose is survived by her husband, Bill Watson, of Abilene; one daughter, Kim Rowlands and her husband, Steve, of Abilene; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Watson, of Albuquerque, NM; and four grandchildren, Nate and Will, of Abilene, and Shawn and Kelly, of Albuquerque. WEBSTER -- John L. Webster, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He is survived by nephews, Michael Lowe, Patrick Lowe and Thomas Lowe. John, a First Lieutenant, served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as well as the Berlin Air Lift. He was the president of Mile High Little League for a number of years and a little league baseball field was named in his honor, "Webster's Field." WILLIAMS -- Dr. Cortez H. Williams, Ph.D., age 70, of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Albuquerque VA Medical Center. He was born September 22, 1937, in McKeesport, PA to Walter L. and Mabel E. Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Joyce Williams; daughter, Taneka Williams; son, LaMar Williams and his wife, Tosha; granddaughter, Santana; grandson, Christopher; and countless loving friends and students from UNM. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorraine Williams Lucas and Gwendolyn Williams; and brother, Walter Williams.
