CHAVEZ -- Larry Anthony Chavez, 21, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 7, 2008. COOK -- Pleas M. Cook, "Pop", passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, after a brief illness at the age of 84. "Pop" is survived by his loving wife, Lilian; his best friend and twin brother, Pearl Cook and wife, Jo; three sons, Martian and wife, Rusty, Richard and wife, Cindy, and Don and wife, Liz; grandsons, Chris, Ken, and Donnie; granddaughters, Shirley, Chevonne, Therese, Heidi, and Jaimee; and great-grandchildren, Jaricah, Kieran, Brendon, Breanne, Brylen, Tamyra, and Chastin. Mr. Cook is preceded in death by his loving grandson, Chad Cook. Pop touched many, many lives with his gentleness, kindness and generosity. He will be extremely missed by all who knew and loved him. EGLEY -- Mary Egley died Friday, April 4, 2008, of Lung Cancer at her daughter's home in Beaverton, Oregon. Mary Egley was born January 12, 1930, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She married Robert Egley in 1952. He died in 2000. Survivors include her two daughters, Beth Pomplun, Patty Van Antwerp; granddaughters, Eve Foster and Amy Van Antwerp; five great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Edmund Irigoyen, Raymond Irigoyen; sisters Josephine Lasswell and Delores Nixon. ELDER -- Floyd C. Elder, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed from this life on Thursday, April 3, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ellen; son, David of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Lisa Fletcher of Ohio; six grandchildren; brother and sisters, Everett Elder of Roswell, Maidie Lee Werner of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dorothy Brinkley of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Delbert Hawkins of Las Cruces; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Cecil Elder and Winnie Mae Hawkins. Floyd was born on September 24, 1931 to the late Lee and Bertha Elder. He worked at Sandia National Laboratory for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 461, and the American Radio Relay League. Floyd was an avid Ham Radio Operator, forever known as WD5HDY. Memorial Services will be held for Floyd on Saturday, April 12, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. ELLIS -- Marie H. Ellis, 91, of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was born May 24,1916 in Dunkirk, WI. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Fay M. Ellis; two sons, James F. Ellis and Phillip M. Ellis; a brother, Daryl M. Hanson; a sister, Eldean Soward. She is survived by her children, Cathy Irvin and husband, Bill, Janet Elliot; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Ellis, all of Albuquerque. Ted Ellis and wife, Barbara, of Montgomery, TX; Chuck Ellis of Dallas. She is also survived by a brother, Borg Hanson, of Bloomington, MN; a sister, Joan Stanton, of Canton, GA. Marie has eight grandchildren, Keith Ellis, Karli Venable, Cristen Tyson, Justin Irvin, Todd Ellis, Jason Ellis, Lisa Elliot, and Leslie Hughes. Marie has nine great-grandchildren, Ethan and Paden Hughes, Aiden and Avery Ellis, Tyler and Ashlynn Ellis, Jackson Elliot, Lily Tyson, and Noah Venable. Marie was long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and founding member of the Albuquerque Scandinavian Club. A Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Cemetary on Friday, April 11, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. The family requests that memorials be made in Marie's name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P.O. FIORETTI -- Dick Fioretti, 70, past resident of Albuquerque, passed away April 5, 2008 at Carlsbad Medical Center. He was born December 1, 1937, in Los Animas, Colorado to Tony R. and Mary Elizabeth (Hudnell) Fioretti. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended the University of Colorado. Dick married Laurie Lane February 11, 1961, in Albuquerque. He served his country in the US Air Force. Dick went back to work for the Gas Company of NM and was transferred to Artesia and then on to Carlsbad in the late 60's. He retired from the gas company in 1988. He enjoyed reading, painting, golfing, and fishing with J.C. He was also an umpire for many years. Dick loved the time he shared with Chanley and J.C. and was a wonderful dad. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laurie, in 2006; and daughter, Stephanie Fioretti Fowler. Survivors are daughter, Tina M. Kartchner and husband, Rodney, of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughter, Chanley Kartchner of Carlsbad, NM; grandson, J.C. Kartchner of Carlsbad, NM; two sisters,Mary Katherine Bliss and husband, John, of Albuquerque, NM, and Frances Anne Horn and husband, Robert, of Albuquerque, NM; and two nephews Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at St. Edward Catholic Church, 201 N. Guadalupe Street, Carlsbad, NM with Fr. Cyprian Uline, OFM, Conv. officiating. GELT -- Philip A. Gelt, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years died Saturday, April 5, 2008. He is survived by his sons, Thomas Ven der Gelt, PhD of Germany and Andrew L. Gelt, PhD of Hollywood, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Martha, who died in 1990. Mr. Gelt was an Electronics Technician in the US Navy during WWII, 7th Fleet boxing champion in the navy, amateur radio examiner, retired Electrical Engineer for 33 years at Sandia Lab, licensed private pilot, and a gifted musician and composer. Early in his life, he conducted several bands including his own band that included his two sons and wife as members. His greatest gift to his family and friends was his love of music. Following his retirement from Sandia, Philip performed hundreds of concerts at numerous Senior Centers and Nursing Homes in Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 11, 2008, 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. HAMMOND -- Juanita N. Hammond died surrounded by family in Albuquerque on April 3, 2008. She was born on August 8, 1924 in Purcell, Oklahoma, and she graduated from Purcell High School in 1942. She married Wayne R. Hammond in 1945, and together they lived and traveled both in the U.S. and overseas in his work as a geologist with Socony Mobil Oil Company. Upon retirement from that job, they relocated to Albuquerque in 1960 and opened Plaza Books, Inc. which continued in business for 27 years. She is survived by her brother, James E. Norvell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her two daughters, Mary and her husband ,Kenny Williams, and Ruth and her husband, Jarrett Galbreth, of Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her son, Mark Hammond; and Wayne Hammond. After retiring from business, Juanita enjoyed cooking, roses, and reading, as well as travel with her husband, especially to archeological sites throughout the southwest, Mexico, and Central and South America. Her passing brings sadness to our family, and her presence is greatly missed. Graveside services in Purcell, Oklahoma will take place on April 12, 2008. A Private Memorial gathering in Albuquerque will take place in coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the Albuquerque Public Library, 501 Copper NW, 87102.

HOOK -- James William Hook, Jr., 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Sunday, April 6, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Compton Hook; one daughter; two sons; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepson; two stepdaughters; seven step-grandchildren; and six step-great- grandchildren. Mr. Hook was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on May 30, 1912 but lived in New York state and Connecticut from 1916 to 1948. After graduating from the Taft School in 1930 and Yale University in 1934, he worked with the J. Walter Thompson Company advertising agency in New York City prior to his duty in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In 1948 he moved to Albuquerque and worked at Sandia Laboratories for 24 years. Mr. Hook was Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board during the 60's and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi, the Society of Colonial Wars, and Mensa. As per his request, a private graveside service will be held at Sandia Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
