HAMMOND -- Juanita N. Hammond died surrounded by family in Albuquerque on April 3, 2008. She was born on August 8, 1924 in Purcell, Oklahoma, and she graduated from Purcell High School in 1942. She married Wayne R. Hammond in 1945, and together they lived and traveled both in the U.S. and overseas in his work as a geologist with Socony Mobil Oil Company. Upon retirement from that job, they relocated to Albuquerque in 1960 and opened Plaza Books, Inc. which continued in business for 27 years. She is survived by her brother, James E. Norvell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her two daughters, Mary and her husband ,Kenny Williams, and Ruth and her husband, Jarrett Galbreth, of Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her son, Mark Hammond; and Wayne Hammond. After retiring from business, Juanita enjoyed cooking, roses, and reading, as well as travel with her husband, especially to archeological sites throughout the southwest, Mexico, and Central and South America. Her passing brings sadness to our family, and her presence is greatly missed. Graveside services in Purcell, Oklahoma will take place on April 12, 2008. A Private Memorial gathering in Albuquerque will take place in coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her name to the Albuquerque Public Library, 501 Copper NW, 87102.
