BENTLEY -- Loren Blanton Bentley Jr. was born October 4, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota of Loren and Betty Bentley. He received a BA from McMurray College and an MA from New Mexico State University. Loren taught high school and middle school for 35 years in a number of districts throughout Texas and New Mexico and was currently employed in the Roswell Independent School District. He had been principal at Pecos and Sunset Elementary and Mesa Middle School. He was also the 1995 president of the NMMI Parents' Club. His love of computers and travel led him to become a private pilot and to employment with Radio Shack, where he became a district manager, but his greatest love was the classroom. He had been active in judo for 50 years. He was an active instructor for most of that time and had students worldwide. He followed the maxims of judo everyday of his life and exemplified jita kyoei. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marjorie; his children, Michelle Fox and husband Robert, Loren III and wife, Angela; three grandchildren, Chase A. Fox, Loren IV, and Justin Bentley; his father, Loren Sr.; and siblings, Brenda, John, Paul, and Curtis Bentley. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty. Services will be Friday, April 11, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at French's Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE. Albuquerque, NM. CASIAS -- Maria Amelia Casias, 74, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away during the early morning of April 8, 2008 with her husband at her side. She was born June 17, 1933 in Mora, NM. She was the middle child of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Magdalena Cordova, and brothers Fred and Lorenzo. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pat Casias; daughter, Veronica Jaramillo and husband Raymond; son, Henry Casias and wife Kathi; three grandchildren, Jessica Jaramillo-Anaya and husband Louie; Justin and Ryane Casias; and sisters, Viola Cordova and Marcela Valdez. She was a strong, beautiful, and loving woman who adored her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her family's faith in God brings them peace, knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones and resting peacefully in Heaven. Mom, Grandma, we love you so much and we will miss you! COOK -- Pleas M. Cook, "Pop", passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, after a brief illness at the age of 84. EGLEY -- Mary Egley died Friday, April 4, 2008, of Lung Cancer at her daughter's home in Beaverton, Oregon. Mary Egley was born January 12, 1930, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She married Robert Egley in 1952. He died in 2000. Survivors include her two daughters, Beth Pomplun, Patty Van Antwerp; granddaughters, Eve Foster and Amy Van Antwerp; five great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Edmund Irigoyen, Raymond Irigoyen; sisters Josephine Lasswell and Delores Nixon. ELDER -- Floyd C. Elder, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, passed from this life on Thursday, April 3, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ellen; son, David of Albuquerque; step-daughter, Lisa Fletcher of Ohio; six grandchildren; brother and sisters, Everett Elder of Roswell, Maidie Lee Werner of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dorothy Brinkley of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Delbert Hawkins of Las Cruces; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Cecil Elder and Winnie Mae Hawkins. Floyd was born on September 24, 1931 to the late Lee and Bertha Elder. He worked at Sandia National Laboratory for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of B.P.O.E. 461, and the American Radio Relay League. ELLIS -- Marie H. Ellis, 91, of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was born May 24,1916 in Dunkirk, WI. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Fay M. Ellis; two sons, James F. Ellis and Phillip M. Ellis; a brother, Daryl M. Hanson; a sister, Eldean Soward. She is survived by her children, Cathy Irvin and husband, Bill, Janet Elliot; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Ellis, all of Albuquerque. Ted Ellis and wife, Barbara, of Montgomery, TX; Chuck Ellis of Dallas. She is also survived by a brother, Borg Hanson, of Bloomington, MN; a sister, Joan Stanton, of Canton, GA. Marie has eight grandchildren, Keith Ellis, Karli Venable, Cristen Tyson, Justin Irvin, Todd Ellis, Jason Ellis, Lisa Elliot, and Leslie Hughes. Marie has nine great-grandchildren, Ethan and Paden Hughes, Aiden and Avery Ellis, Tyler and Ashlynn Ellis, Jackson Elliot, Lily Tyson, and Noah Venable. FIORETTI -- Dick Fioretti, 70, past resident of Albuquerque, passed away April 5, 2008 at Carlsbad Medical Center. He was born December 1, 1937, in Los Animas, Colorado to Tony R. and Mary Elizabeth (Hudnell) Fioretti. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended the University of Colorado. Dick married Laurie Lane February 11, 1961, in Albuquerque. He served his country in the US Air Force. Dick went back to work for the Gas Company of NM and was transferred to Artesia and then on to Carlsbad in the late 60's. He retired from the gas company in 1988. He enjoyed reading, painting, golfing, and fishing with J.C. He was also an umpire for many years. Dick loved the time he shared with Chanley and J.C. and was a wonderful dad. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laurie, in 2006; and daughter, Stephanie Fioretti Fowler. Survivors are daughter, Tina M. Kartchner and husband, Rodney, of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughter, Chanley Kartchner of Carlsbad, NM; grandson, J.C. Kartchner of Carlsbad, NM; two sisters,Mary Katherine Bliss and husband, John, of Albuquerque, NM, and Frances Anne Horn and husband, Robert, of Albuquerque, NM; and two nephews Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. GELT -- Philip A. Gelt, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years died Saturday, April 5, 2008. He is survived by his sons, Thomas Ven der Gelt, PhD of Germany and Andrew L. Gelt, PhD of Hollywood, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Martha, who died in 1990. Mr. Gelt was an Electronics Technician in the US Navy during WWII, 7th Fleet boxing champion in the navy, amateur radio examiner, retired Electrical Engineer for 33 years at Sandia Lab, licensed private pilot, and a gifted musician and composer. Early in his life, he conducted several bands including his own band that included his two sons and wife as members. His greatest gift to his family and friends was his love of music. Following his retirement from Sandia, Philip performed hundreds of concerts at numerous Senior Centers and Nursing Homes in Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 11, 2008, 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW. HAMMOND -- Juanita N. Hammond died surrounded by family in Albuquerque on April 3, 2008. She was born on August 8, 1924 in Purcell, Oklahoma, and she graduated from Purcell High School in 1942. She married Wayne R. Hammond in 1945, and together they lived and traveled both in the U.S. and overseas in his work as a geologist with Socony Mobil Oil Company. Upon retirement from that job, they relocated to Albuquerque in 1960 and opened Plaza Books, Inc. which continued in business for 27 years. She is survived by her brother, James E. Norvell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her two daughters, Mary and her husband ,Kenny Williams, and Ruth and her husband, Jarrett Galbreth, of Albuquerque. She was predeceased by her son, Mark Hammond; and Wayne Hammond. After retiring from business, Juanita enjoyed cooking, roses, and reading, as well as travel with her husband, especially to archeological sites throughout the southwest, Mexico, and Central and South America. Her passing brings sadness to our family, and her presence is greatly missed. Graveside services in Purcell, Oklahoma will take place on April 12, 2008. HOOK -- James William Hook, Jr., 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, died Sunday, April 6, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Compton Hook; one daughter; two sons; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepson; two stepdaughters; seven step-grandchildren; and six step-great- grandchildren. Mr. Hook was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on May 30, 1912 but lived in New York state and Connecticut from 1916 to 1948. After graduating from the Taft School in 1930 and Yale University in 1934, he worked with the J. Walter Thompson Company advertising agency in New York City prior to his duty in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. In 1948 he moved to Albuquerque and worked at Sandia Laboratories for 24 years. Mr. Hook was Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board during the 60's and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi, the Society of Colonial Wars, and Mensa. LAVANDOSKI -- Theresa L. Lavandoski, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, April 6, 2008. She was a resident of Albuquerque for over 60 years. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Theresa is survived by her two sons, Robert and his wife, Terry and Joseph; four grandsons, David, Steven, Ron and Tom; granddaughter, Jana Henton; great-grandsons, Collin and Nolan Henton; her sisters, Lillian Lyko and Alice Keck; and brother, Edward Koziol. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, daughter, Carolyn and granddaughter, Krista. Theresa lived her life with integrity and generosity. She was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, opening her heart and home to everyone. she helped raise and care for not only her own children, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, determined spirit, and dedication to her family. She will be sorely missed. MARCELLI -- Teresa Anne Marcelli went to be with the Lord at sunrise on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was the beloved daughter of Frank and Ernestine Marcelli; loving mother of Antonio Archuleta and Ricardo (Rico) Bustos; caring sister of Rosemarie Nelson, Mariana and Walt Mestas, Tina and Ed Sanchez, Frank and Kathy Marcelli, John and Lisa Marcelli and Stephanie and Armand Giannini. She was a wonderful aunt to her 17 nephews and nieces. Teresa was born on February 23, 1956 and was a 1974 graduate of Valley High School. She was a generous and loving sister and friend. She loved Jesus and shared that love freely and with much enthusiasm. PASCETTI -- Melio Pascetti, age 95, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2008, in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to Giacinto and Angelina Pascetti, the son of Italian immigrants, and he grew up in Dawson, NM. Melio later moved to Albuquerque, NM and married his childhood sweetheart, Josephine Ann Cimino. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII, where he fought at Normandy during D-Day. Melio will be remembered for his amazing determination, optimism, and deep sense of commitment to his wife and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine; their children, son, George Pascetti and wife, Susan, of Durango, CO; daughter, Angela Scarberry and husband, Ted, of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Damian Pascetti, Ted Scarberry and his wife, Amanda, and Tim Scarberry; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, and Gio Pascetti; three brothers, Angelo, Valentino, and Jack Pascetti; and one sister, Carmen Lozano. POLK -- Sally Eleanor Polk, 78, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008. She was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Palo Alto, Ca., to Dudley and Alice DeGroot. Sal was brilliantly talented, highly accomplished, and touched many lives, both two-legged and four. Sal graduated from Monrovia High School in California, where she was a competitive swimmer and national caliber diver. She moved to New Mexico and attended UNM, where she competed on the rodeo team as a barrel racer. Her father coached the UNM Lobo football team, where she met the linebacker and end, Gene Polk. They were married in Amarillo, Texas, on November 8, 1952. After moving extensively with the oil field, they settled in Farmington in 1959 and resided there until 1976. During her 17 years in Farmington, she was very involved in many young people's lives. She and Gene founded the Farmington Boys Club, where they both coached Silver Gloves boxing. She coached the Tarpons swim team and started and coached the Farmington Fleetfooters AAU track team. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Brownie troop leader, and started a mounted Girl Scout drill team. In addition, she was a member of the Sheriff's Posse search and rescue. Every Halloween she entertained scores of young people as they came to the Polk's house and were greeted by a witch (Sal) and Frankenstein (Gene). While in Farmington, Sal started Polk's Arabians, where she raised and trained Arabian horses. In 1976, she moved to Sandia Park, in the East Mountains, where she continued her horse operation under the new name of Enchantment Arabians. Sal loved singing and became a part of the choir at the Community Church of the Sandias. She also decided to start competing in Senior track and field throwing events. In 1993, she won a bronze medal at the world games in Australia in the throwing pentathlon -shot, discus, javelin, hammer, and weight throw. She competed in the Senior Olympics, winning several medals, and went on to set a world record in the Hammer throw. She helped coach some of the Master competitors as well as coaching the thrillers at several area high schools including Mountaineer, where she moved in 1998. In 1995 she lost her leg due to complications from a horse riding accident. She then turned her attention to another one of her amazing talents, art. She was well known in Farmington for her sculptures and belt buckles she made for High School sports awards banquets. She did sketching, stain glass, ceramic, and Bronze sculptures. Many of her works were produced and shown by nationally famous Name Mills. She decided to expand her artistic expression to include leather and bodywork, in which she won best of show the last three years at the New Mexico state fair. One overriding love of Sal's throughout her life was that of all creatures great and small. She loved animals and would rescue anything that needed it. Her home was never void of many thankful creatures who were given a second chance. She also loved Irish Wolfhound dogs, having owned and bred many throughout the years. She is survived by her love of 56 years, Gene Polk; sisters, Dr. Alice DeGroot. and Nancy Dyeing; brother, Dudley DeGroot.; daughters, Kim Asleep, Line Denton, and Sand Withers; sons, Staff Polk and Fritz Polk; their spouses; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Mountain Christian Church, 12242 Hwy N. 14th in Cedar Crest.

VIGIL -- Consuelo B. Vigil, 28, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born March 2, 1980 in Albuquerque, NM to Henry L. and Lillie M. (Rosas) Romero. Consuelo is survived by her husband, Juan R. Vigil of their home in Albuquerque; her children, Juan Jr. and Alycia of Albuquerque; her mother and step-father, Lillie and Kenneth Orloff of Albuquerque; father, Henry Romero and companion, Ramona Benavidez, of Socorro; brother, Enrique Manuel Romero and fiance, Deandra Rodriguez, of Albuquerque; sister, Gabriella Romero and fiance, Robert Lisenbee, of Albuquerque; grandparents, Patsy Olague of Albuquerque, Helen Vigil of Santa Fe, NM; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharon and Robert Vigil of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father Andy Pavlak as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Luis Lopez, NM cemetery. WALSH -- Rosemary Cowan Walsh, 78, died Monday, April 7, 2008, of heart failure. Rosemary was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on June 8, 1929. She moved to Salida, Colorado where she attended high school, then went to nursing school in Denver. She met and fell in love with Robert K. (Bob) Walsh in high school. They eloped to Raton, NM in 1950. They moved to Albuquerque where they brought up their four children. Bob and Rosemary moved to the Jemez Mountains in their retirement and lived there for 25 years until Bob passed away last fall. Rosemary leaves behind her four children, Rick Walsh and his wife, Melinda, Randy Walsh and his wife, Caren, and Roger Walsh, all of Albuquerque, and Robin Pratt and her husband, Michael, of Swaziland, Africa. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, Austen, Skye, Rory and his wife, Delfina, Jocelyn and her husband, Leroy, Kerri, Casey, Marshall and his wife, Amber, Lee, Tyler, Jori, Beau, and Khetsi, and three great-grandchildren, Judea, Austin, and Beau. Rosemary is survived by her sister, Connie Jackson; and her husband, Walter, of Albuquerque; her brother, Jack Cowan and his wife, Helen, of Colorado; and two nieces, Debra and Tamara; and three nephews, Mike, Bryan, and Craig, and their families. They all brought much joy to her life. Rosemary was a happy and positive person. She was a devoted wife, and a caring mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always had a hug, a smile, and a kiss for all those she loved. She loved to entertain and cook for her family and friends, and made everyone feel welcome, no matter how many showed up for dinner. She was emotionally strong and a source of comfort, understanding, and unconditional love. She fought valiantly until the end. She deserves her rest and is already missed terribly.
