ANDREWS -- Robert F. Andrews, age 82, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 11, 2005 at Valle Norte Caring Center in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Herbert and his parents, Mark Lawton and Blanch Andrews. Robert was born near Urbana, MO, February 6, 1923. He graduated from Urbana High School, and attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield until 1943 when he served his country by joining the U.S. Navy. After marrying his childhood sweetheart, Ida Taylor, in 1945, he left the service in 1946 to return to his college studies. Robert and his family moved to Los Alamos, NM in 1947 when he accepted a job with the Protective Force for the Atomic Energy Commission, having retired in 1978 as Captain in Orders and Publications Office. In 1969, he moved his family to Pajarito Village, south of Los Alamos, in order to indulge in his passion for farming and raising beautiful orchids. He and his wife moved to Albuquerque in 1997 to be close to his son, Paul. Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ida; his two sons, Robert Micheal and Paul Fleming Andrews; his two grandsons, Matias (born of Paul and Maria Andrews) and John Robert (born of Robert Micheal and Louise Andrews); and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He loved camping, fly-fishing, fly-tying, farming, growing gorgeous orchids, and was a Scout leader for many years. Funeral Services will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Road, Albuquerque, NM, on Friday, April 15, 2005. The Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tom Hart will officiate. APODACA -- Augustine D. Apodaca, 56, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2005. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosella Apodaca. Mr. Apodaca is survived by his loving daughters: Dolores Apodaca and Yvette Apodaca. Mr. Apodaca is also survived by one sister, Rafaelita Vigil; eight grandchildren: Josette, Mariano, Martin, Jovonna, DeAngelo, Angel, J.J., Jazmine; one aunt, Alice O'Connor; one niece, Rosie Clute; and several nephews. The family of Mr. Apodaca will be reflecting on his life and celebrating his life with a Rosary, Funeral Service, and Burial. BACA -- Christina S. Baca died Sunday, April 10, 2005 in Albuquerque at the age of 86. Mrs. Baca was a member of the Our Lady of Annunciation Golden Agers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Esquipulo Baca and brother, Miguel Sandoval. She is survived by her sons, Alexander Baca and John Baca; daughters, Rosalia Baca and husband, Kenneth Proch, and Mary Dolores Baca; and her grandchildren, Joaquin Baca-Asay, Paul Ortiz, and Reina Ortiz. CHACON -- Rafelita Chacon, age 81 and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died at her home on Monday, April 11, 2005 following an illness. Mrs. Chacon is survived by her husband, Pete F. Chacon of Albuquerque; three daughters, Nickie Chacon of La Jara, NM, Mercy Chacon, and Yolanda Chacon; one son, Pete C. Chacon and his wife, Charlotte, all of Albuquerque; one sister, Carlotta Eichwald of Cuba, NM; two brothers, Joe Garcia of Belen, NM and Danny Garcia of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. CRISWELL -- Edward Earl Criswell, 93, a New Mexico native, died on Monday, April 11, 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Lela Beth Criswell of Maryland; sons, John W. Criswell of Albuquerque and Raymond Criswell of Las Cruces; sister, Clara Belle Romaine of Albuquerque; nieces, Winifred Kimbrough and her daughters, Jody and Jennifer and Virginia Allison of Texas; nephew, Jim Criswell of Carlsbad; caregiver and friend, Marie Lewis of Laguna, NM. Mr. Criswell was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Oleta Criswell in 2002; and three brothers, Charles, William, and Harold. He was born on the family homestead near Roy, NM on Sunday, March 31, 1912. He graduated from Roy High School and Highlands University where he received his teaching degree. Mr. Criswell started teaching and coaching basketball in Roy and Solano, NM. He moved to Albuquerque and was teaching at Washington Junior High when he met his future wife, Oleta. Shortly after the bombing at Pearl Harbor he was married and entered the Navy where he served as Lt.JG on a minesweeper. After the war he returned to Albuquerque to raise his three children and teach at Washington Junior High. After retiring in 1974, he enjoyed playing golf and painting. DURAND -- Louise Violet Durand, 46, beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, left this world and into the arms of our Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2005. Loved by all who knew her, Louise left behind her precious daughters, Julia Viola and Ann Louise; their father, Martin Eckert; her mother, Mrs. Viola Durand; her sister, Cathryn Durand Mahoney and husband, John Mahoney; her brother, Richard Durand and wife, Nelly; her fiance, Jim Magnarella; niece, Allison Self; nephews, Richard Durand, David Durand and Joseph Self; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Louise gave over 27 years of her life to the airline industry. An avid and gifted artist, Louise painted throughout her life, and opened a small art gallery for her friends to display their works. Her love of life, love of family and love of her precious daughters was evident to all who knew her. She is now in heaven with her Dad and will be waiting for all of us. FLINT -- A. F. Frankie Flint Sr., age 96, passed away on Saturday April 9, 2005 in Tucumcari, NM. Frankie Flint was born May 17, 1908 at Bard in the Territory of New Mexico. He lived his entire life in the Bard, NM community, moving to Tucumcari 5 years ago. He was a rancher and Cattleman. He belonged to the American Angus Assc., the New Mexico and Texas Angus Assc., the ASCS and SCS committee, Crops and Stabalazation Board, the NM Cattle Growers Association, The San Jon, NM School Board for 25 years. He had served at the New Mexico Constitution Convention. He had been chairman of the NM State Livestock Board. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at San Jon, NM. Surviving Frankie Flint are his sons: Quinnie Flint and wife, Shirley of Round Rock TX, A. Franklin Flint Jr. and wife, Betty, and Martenia Flint and wife, Felecia, all of San Jon, NM; his daughter, Ora Lee Robbins and husband, Leslie of Tucumcari, NM; One brother, Earl Flint of San Jon, NM; sisters, Bertie Ragland of Tucumcari NM, Cora White of Bard, NM, Maurine Boatman and husband, Fred, and Earline Paris, all of Logan, NM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Lee Flint; by his parents; and by three sisters, one grandson, and one great-grandson. FLURY -- William H. In Memory Of William H. Flury (Bill) William Henry, the oldest child of Tempie (Gourley) and Joe Flury was born on March 13, 1909 in Avard, OK. He passed away at his home in Albuquerque, NM on the April 3, 2005 at the age of 96 years and 20 days. He attended the Avard School where he graduated from High School with the Class of 1926. On December 26, 1929 he was married to Thelma Lillian Egan at the Christian Church Parsonage in Alva by Reverend J.T. Wheeler. To their marriage five children, Janice Faye, Yvonne, JoAnn, James, and Scott, were born. Following their marriage they made their home in Avard where they operated Flury Grocery store. On April 20, 1944 he joined the United States Navy serving in the Pacific Theater and on December 2, 1945 he was discharged. He was a proud veteran of WWII and a lifetime member of the VFW. In 1960 they retired and moved to Albuquerque where he was an active Participant in the Palo Duro Senior Citizen's Square Dancing until his 95th birthday. He loved spending time with his family in Oklahoma and New Mexico, square dancing, playing cards and dominoes. Mr. Flury was a member of the Monte Vista Christian Church. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Flury on February 4, 1965; two daughters, Janice Faye Flury and Yvonne Wenzel; his parents; two sisters, Lois Flury and Germaine Bixler; and a brother, Herbert. Bill is survived by his companion of 29 years, Stephanie Posen of Albuquerque; a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Bill Dupree of Amarillo, TX; two sons, James of Seattle, WA, and Scott and his wife, Lilija of Chama, NM; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Justine Lancaster of Alva, OK, Betty and her husband, Chuck Stewart of Avard, OK; and a brother, Joe Dan Flury of Guthrie, OK; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Avard Christian Church of Avard, OK or the Monte Vista Christian Church. GARCIA -- Viola G. Garcia, 69, a resident of San Ysidro, NM, passed away suddenly in her home on April 8, 2005. She was born on March 3, 1936 in Ponderosa, NM. Viola grew up in Ponderosa, NM. On June 21, 1958 she married her beloved husband, Robert and together they raised 3 children. Viola owned the VG-Bar Cattle Ranch in Cabezon, NM. She served as the Postmaster of San Ysidro for over 25 years. She enjoyed reading, loved watching American Idol, and was the most incredible cook. Her family believes that she made the best red chili on the planet. Viola was preceded in death by her father, Lucio Sandoval; mother, Corina Ruiz; husband, Robert; and her daughter, Barbara Leal. She is survived by her children, Roberta Bennett and husband, Anthony, James "Jimmy" Garcia; sisters, Agnes Sanchez, Tilla Sandoval, Marcia Brown and husband, Stephen; brother, Ulysis Sandoval; her brother in laws, Phil Garcia and wife, Margaret, Mike Garcia and wife, Margie; sister-in-laws, Tillie Lopez, Martha Alderete, Esther Naranjo and husband, Gilbert, Maria Hartranft and husband; grandchildren, Renee, Steven, James, and Ashley; special friends, Louie and Arlene Santillanes; and a host of loving friends and extended family. KEHR -- Maureen Elaine Sullivan Kehr, 63, has gone to be with the Lord on April 10, 2005, in Pueblo, CO. KIBBLE -- Mabel Eieleen Swaminathan Charles, age 82, resident of Rio Communities, Belen, since September 1980, died April 11, 2005 at home. She is survived by her husband, Stepney Cortez Kibble; a son, Kumar Cortez Kibble, his wife, Laura, and their children, Savana, Samantha, and Christian, of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; and sisters, Lynette and Edith of Nagercoil, India; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews in India. She was predeceased by her parents Rev. Charles and Jeyamony Swaminathan. Mabel was born in Nagercoil, India, on January 24, 1923. She spent the early years of her life in Singapore and Malaysia where her father was in charge of schools established by the Anglican Diocese of Singapore and Malaysia for the education of children from Indian immigrant families in those territories. After the occupation of Singapore and Malaysia by Japanese military forces in February 1942, Mabel, along with her family, underwent the hardships and rigors of the Japanese occupation. After the Allied Forces victory in Singapore and Malaysia in 1945, Mabel, her mother and sisters returned to Madras, India. Subsequently, she became a member of the local staff of the U.S. Consulate General in Madras. In November 1954, her husband, Cortez, a U.S. State Department foreign service officer was sent to Madras on his first Foreign Service assignment. On May 5, 1956, Mabel and Cortez were married. Upon completion of the Madras assignment, Mabel accompanied Cortez to the U.S. and became a U.S. citizen. She then accompanied her husband on assignments to Iraq, Pakistan, Washington, D.C., Argentina, Liberia, Guyana, and Surinam. During her husband's Washington assignments, she studied theater at Howard University, earned a B.A. in History at D.C. Teachers College and participated in a National Security Seminar at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. As a young woman in Singapore, Mabel studied piano and received a diploma in piano studies from Trinity College of Music, London. Upon retirement with her husband to Rio Communities in Belen, Mabel became a piano teacher and gave piano lessons to many young people and adults in Valencia County in the course of her nearly 25 years of residence. She was a member of the Albuquerque chapter of the American Guild of Organists, Church Women United of Albuquerque, Daughters of the King, Society of Mary, Alkalai Anns Garden Club, and American Association of University Women. A Memorial Service will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. John, 3rd & Silver SW, Albuquerque, NM at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2005. KIRK -- William L. Kirk, 74, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went into the presence of the Lord on April 10, 2005. MANIRE -- Mary Helen Manire, 73, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2005. She has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1956. Mary was born to Boone and Helen Killgore in Sweetwater, TX on January 5, 1932. She was predeceased by their son, Michael. She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Bill Manire; her daughter, Holly; son-in-law, David Brown; and grandchildren, Austin Brown and Erin Brown of Flower Mound, TX; brother, Mark Killgore of Dallas and his wife, Joanne; brother, Joe Killgore and wife, Charlene of Maryneal, TX; and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Mary came to New Mexico in 1953 to teach Home Economics at Springer High School. After moving to Albuquerque, she was a Home Economist for PNM and served as Head of that department for a time. Very active in church and civic organizations, Mary served on the boards of The Storehouse, The Chaparral Home and Adoption Agency, was President of Albuquerque Church Women United and in 1999 was awarded the Valiant Women Award by that organization. She served as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship and was a member of Chapter BH of PEO. For 40 years she has served her church in various capacities, including being co-editor of the church newsletter, Financial Secretary and participating in many committees. Mary loved travel, genealogy, handwork and grandchildren. Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Los Altos Christian Church, 11900 Haines NE, Rev. Christopher Wilson presiding (near Juan Tabo and Indian School Rd.). Cremation has taken place. MCSWEENEY -- W. Loretta McSweeney, age 80, a resident of Albuquerque, died April 5, 2005. She was born March 28, 1925 in Salem, MA to Emil and Winifred (McGivren) LaPointe and grew up in Peabody, MA. She graduated from Peabody High School in 1942. Loretta married Paul McSweeney on April 6, 1947 in Peabody. She came to Albuquerque in 1966. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at UNM in the Department of Medicine for 17 years. Loretta was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center. She was also an avid Bridge player. She is survived by her daughter; Gail W. McSweeney of San Francisco, CA; daughter and son in law, Lisa A. and Brian K. O'Connor of Albuquerque; sister, Kathryn A. Lyons of Peabody, MA; brother, Philip LaPointe of Peabody, MA; grandchildren: Sara R. and Morry L. Roybal of Albuquerque and Darrin K. O'Connor of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren: Ethan M. Roybal and Caleb M. Roybal, both of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. McSweeney and her sons, Paul E. McSweeney, Jr. and Francis Arthur McSweeney. PADILLA -- Frank (Pancho) Padilla, one of the last patrons of New Mexico politics, passed away Monday morning at the age of eighty-five. This son of Puerto de Luna, NM was a great American patriot who served his country in WWII. As his son remarked, "he was great at anything he wanted to do, but greatest in the love and concern for his family. He adored his wife (mom) for 63 years. When my wife died last year, he called me almost daily, asking me "Buddy, are you okay?" Politically he was the best. Leaders of both parties loved him. He was "New Mexico's political historian." He is survived by his wife, Helen R. Padilla; his children, Steve Padilla, Frances Marquez, Dolores Marshall, Marianne and Roger Tapia, Linda and John Fay; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His granddaughter, Angela Fay describes her grandpa "as the most determined man I have ever known. His heart was filled with kindness, generosity, and most of all love. He cared so much about the well-being of everyone but himself. He was full of life, and was always on the go. My dearest memories of him were just driving in the car on a Sunday afternoon to basically anywhere just to look at the land. He has always been there, and he has touched many hearts. He will be forever loved and forever missed." Vaya con dios nuestro papa querido, tan carinoso. A Rosary will be prayed Thursday, 7:00 p.m. and a Mass will be said on Friday at 10:00 a.m., both at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, at the corner of Lomas and Morningside Blvds. NE, and the burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in Santa Fe at the National Cemetery.

SERNA -- Demetrio Serna died Monday, April 11, 2005 in Albuquerque at the age of 93. A Rosary for Mr. Serna will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2005 also at St. Francis Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. STOUT -- Hollis Dale Stout, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, was born in Cherokee, OK on September 29, 1935, and passed away on April 11, 2005. He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Stout Jackson and his father, Hollis Stout. He is survived by Joan Stout, his loving wife of 45 years; son, Doug Stout and Penny Bishop; daughter, Sandra Poirier and husband, Steve; and granddaughter, Johanna Poirier, all of Albuquerque. His brother, Floyd Stout and wife, Patricia of Cherokee, OK, and sister, Shirley Staiger of Kaufman, TX; aunts, Thelma Graham of Wichita, KS, and Maxine Stout of Enid, OK also survive him. He has many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dale earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Northwestern State College in Alva, OK in 1957, his M.S. degree in Natural Sciences from New Mexico Highlands University in 1962, and his Education Specialist degree from the University of New Mexico in 1969. He was a longtime educator and administrator in the Albuquerque Public Schools, serving from 1962 until his retirement in 1988. He taught science at Sandia, West Mesa, and Highland High Schools. Prior to joining APS, he taught in Dalhart, TX, and Sperry, OK. He also served as the Science Coordinator at Central Office. During his career with APS he was awarded the Service to Science Award from New Mexico Science Teachers Association in 1986 and the Albuquerque Science Teachers association in 1986. He was a member of the National Science Teacher's Association, Albuquerque Science Teacher's Association, New Mexico Science Teacher's Association, National Science Supervisor's Association, New Mexico School Administrator's Association, New Mexico Academy of Science, Thunderbird R.V. Club, and Phi Delta Kappa. He spent many years helping with Science Fairs and sponsoring bowling clubs. Dale was an avid reader and attended Lobo Men's and Women's Basketball games. He also loved to travel. He was an active member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church, serving as an ordained Deacon and Elder, and a sponsor of the Youth Group. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, Rev. Trey Hammond III officiating, with reception to follow. THORSON -- Ellwood (Al) John Thorson, 90, longtime Albuquerque photographer, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 in Albuquerque. He operated E.J. Thorson Studio on East Central from 1946 to 1972, photographing many young families and university students in the rapidly growing city. He was born in Williston, ND, in 1914 and graduated from high school in Grand Forks. After two years of college, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Marine Reserves. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and trained with the Army Air Corps. While stationed in New Mexico, he met and married Margaret Rebecca Crane, an Albuquerque schoolteacher. Upon deployment during World War II with the 351st Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, at Polebrook Royal Air Force Base in England, he flew as an aerial photographer on 16 bombing missions. Injured during his service, he recovered at the Bushnell Army Hospital at Brigham City, UT, and following discharge, returned to Albuquerque. He is survived by his son, John E. Thorson and his wife, Karen of Oakland, CA; his daughter, Julia Thorson Kirkpatrick and her husband, Joe of Albuquerque; his granddaughter, Kyrstin B. Thorson of Helena, MT; numerous nieces and nephews; and his long-term caregiver, Lynn Otero of Albuquerque. Mr. Thorson was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 1977, and all five of his brothers and sisters. His long-term canine companion, Blondie, also preceded him in death. Services will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 4th and Lead. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE.
