FLURY -- William H. In Memory Of William H. Flury (Bill) William Henry, the oldest child of Tempie (Gourley) and Joe Flury was born on March 13, 1909 in Avard, OK. He passed away at his home in Albuquerque, NM on the April 3, 2005 at the age of 96 years and 20 days. He attended the Avard School where he graduated from High School with the Class of 1926. On December 26, 1929 he was married to Thelma Lillian Egan at the Christian Church Parsonage in Alva by Reverend J.T. Wheeler. To their marriage five children, Janice Faye, Yvonne, JoAnn, James, and Scott, were born. Following their marriage they made their home in Avard where they operated Flury Grocery store. On April 20, 1944 he joined the United States Navy serving in the Pacific Theater and on December 2, 1945 he was discharged. He was a proud veteran of WWII and a lifetime member of the VFW. In 1960 they retired and moved to Albuquerque where he was an active Participant in the Palo Duro Senior Citizen's Square Dancing until his 95th birthday. He loved spending time with his family in Oklahoma and New Mexico, square dancing, playing cards and dominoes. Mr. Flury was a member of the Monte Vista Christian Church. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Flury on February 4, 1965; two daughters, Janice Faye Flury and Yvonne Wenzel; his parents; two sisters, Lois Flury and Germaine Bixler; and a brother, Herbert. Bill is survived by his companion of 29 years, Stephanie Posen of Albuquerque; a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Bill Dupree of Amarillo, TX; two sons, James of Seattle, WA, and Scott and his wife, Lilija of Chama, NM; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Justine Lancaster of Alva, OK, Betty and her husband, Chuck Stewart of Avard, OK; and a brother, Joe Dan Flury of Guthrie, OK; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Avard Christian Church of Avard, OK or the Monte Vista Christian Church. Memorial Services will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, April 13, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. with Military Honors presented by Co. B 1st Bn. 179 Inf. Interment will be at Avard I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
