Alderete -- Melquiades Alderete, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 3, 2001 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 23, 1921 in Willard, NM, was a resident of Albuquerque. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 606 Bomb Squadron from 1942-1945 as a bombadeer/navigator on a B-24 Liberator. He graduated from St. Joseph's College and taught mathematics for the Cuba School System and Bernalillo School System for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wrought iron work, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Josephine Alderete; his children, Anthony Alderete and wife, Mary, Charles Alderete and wife, Deborah, Joseph Alderete and wife, Betty, Raymond Alderete and Catherine Baca, Thomas Alderete and wife, Marie, Therese Samuel-Alderete, Kathryn Alvelais and husband, Ernesto, Phillip Alderete and wife, Jeanette, Florence Lopez and husband, Michael, Steven Alderete and wife, Jeannette; 20 precious grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian Alderete and Canuta Tenorio Alderete and his brother, Melcor Alderete. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is pending and will be announced. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be his grandsons, Julian Alderete, Juan Carlos Samuel-Alderete, Ernesto Alvelais, Joseph Alderete, John Paul Samuel-Alderete, and Anthony Alderete. Cushing -- William "Bill" Cushing, 65, a resident of Cedar Crest, died Saturday, March 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife, of 18 years, Kathleen Cushing, of Cedar Crest; sons, Kenton Walz, of Albuquerque, Jerry Walz and wife, Alisha of Tijeras, Danny Walz and wife, Marcia, of Albuquerque, Robert Cushing and wife, Carole of Kansas City; daughters, Barbara and husband, Bill Johnstad of Cedar Crest, Martha Reid and husband, Mark of Albuquerque, Vicki Cushing of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Christopher Cushing, William Cushing, Russell Walz, Kelley Walz, Devon Walz, Eric Walz, Ryne Walz, MacKenzie Walz, Kathleen Walz, Christopher Johnstad, Philip Johnstad, Brandon Walz, Jordan Walz, Jeremy Reid, and James Reid; four great-grandchildren; sister, Marge Pearsol and husband, Buck; aunts, Bernice Cushing and Margaret Ware. Bill operated a successful construction company in Silver City, NM, throughout the '70s to the early '80s when he relocated to Cedar Crest, NM, where he and his wife, Kathleen, purchased the Burger Boy restaurant on N. Hwy. 14. He was a known and respected friend in the east mountain area. Delgado -- Norma Sheila Delgado, 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971 died Thursday, March 1, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Victor Delgado; sons, John Delgado and Tom Delgado both of Albuquerque and Andrew Delgado of NC; daughters, Susan Delgado, Teresa Frankel and husband, Aaron, and Marianne McDuffie and husband, Monty, all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Eddie, Elizabeth, Brittany, Jennifer, Matthew, Mariah and Trinity; sisters, Pat, Lorna and Irene; brothers, Charlie and Oliver and 11 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Delgado was born in Norwich, England and came to America in 1961 to join her husband and continue to raise their family. She was known to all to be gentle, loving, generous, courageous and was spiritual and had faith beyond all measure. Jameson -- Burton Jameson, 93, a resident of Albuquerque passed away after a short illness on March 1, 2001. He is survived by his two sons, Bob Jameson and wife, Wanda, Joe Jameson and wife, Peggy, all of Albuquerque; four granddaughters, Karen Sloan, Melissa Jameson and Carol Minella all of Albuquerque and Rebecca Jameson-Sisneros of Farmington; and four great-grandsons. Burton was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Pearl. Burton was born in Montague County, Texas December 17, 1907. After coming to New Mexico in 1950, he worked for 23 years as the office manager of Mutual of Omaha and United of Omaha. Memorial Services are scheduled at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel on Monday, March 5, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in Valley Mills, Texas.

Keppers -- Dr. George L. Keppers, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, passed away Friday, March 2, 2001, after a short illness. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Lois of 56 years, who preceded him in death February 22, 1999. He is survived by his daughter; Kathleen Boles (Jerry) of Albuquerque, and his grandchildren, Marie, Jennifer and Stephanie; and great-granddaughter, Denise; his son, Steven Keppers (Robin) of Castlerock, CO and his grandchildren, Andrea and Susie; his son, Bruce Keppers (Bill) of Albuquerque; and his daughter, Barbara Drinkwater (Joe) of Cupertino, CA and his grandchildren, Brad and Bryan"Buster." George was born February 10, 1915 in Avon, MN. He received his Bachelor of Education in 1937. George fell in love and married Lois, his college sweetheart, in June 1941. During the war, he served in the Army Air Corp, as a weather observer and forecaster. He received his master's degree in 1946, and his doctorate in Education specializing in guidance counseling in 1953. George then headed south to New Mexico and made his family home in Albuquerque. He was employed as assistant director of guidance for the Albuquerque Public Schools, after which he took a position as associate professor in the College of Education at UNM. Dr. Keppers received the first certificate awarded to be a school counselor in the State of New Mexico in 1957. At the University of New Mexico he held various positions: professor, department chairman, assistant dean of student affairs and director of Manzanita Center. George retired in 1980 as professor emeritus in counseling. Dr. Keppers organized and served as vice president and president of the New Mexico Counselor Association. He received the Dr. George L. Keppers award from the association for being a pioneer and leader in the counseling and guidance profession in New Mexico. This award is now awarded each year to an outstanding counselor in New Mexico. He volunteered at the Child Guidance Clinic at UNM and UNM Speakers Bureau. George was an honorary lifetime member of the American Counseling Association and New Mexico Counseling Association. Dr. Keppers devoted his entire career to helping people. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Cremation has taken place, and Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, March 7, 4:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Lehman -- Walter Eugene Lehman, age 85, was born on February 5, 1916 and died March 3, 2001 in Albuquerque. He was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Walter was born in Bingham Lake, MN to William and Erma Lehman and raised on a farm in Rock Lake, ND. He graduated from Rock Lake High School in 1934. Walter was a Tech Sergeant during World War II in the 12th Armored Division, 134th Battalion. He married Gladys Mae Baldwin on July 13, 1947 and made their home in Akron, Ohio. Walter was an active volunteer for the Boys Soap Box Derby in Akron for many years. In 1971, Walter moved to Albuquerque with his wife and two children where he was an active member of Monte Vista Christian Church. He was a retired auto technician who specialized in Olds and Cadillac transmissions. Walter was a history buff and enjoyed camping with his family. He will be remembered by his brother, Charles, A. Lehman of California; son, Walter E. Lehman Jr. and wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Marcia Larson and husband, Bill; as well as his grandchildren, Phillip Larson, Angela Corona, and Blair Sallee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys and brothers, John and William Lehman. Memorial Services will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and interment will be later held in Santa Fe National Cemetery. Mayhew -- George Kenneth Mayhew, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Thursday March 1, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Nelssen Mayhew; sons, George Carl Mayhew, Ross Edward Mayhew, his wife, Patty and their children, Axel and Lauren; daughter, Andrea Mayhew Hanson, her husband, Chuck and their son, Elliot. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Mayhew Wohlschlegel. George was born in Flagstaff, AZ on October 25, 1922 to Carl and Ethel Mayhew. They moved to Oak Creek Canyon, AZ in 1924 where the family owned and operated Mayhews Oak Creek Lodge. George attended a one-room school in Oak Creek Canyon and graduated from Flagstaff High School. He attended Stanford University for one year prior to enlisting in the US Army Air Corps in 1942. George was a B-24 pilot and instructor during WWII. He returned to Arizona following the War and graduated from Northern Arizona University. He married Ruth Nelssen on August 19, 1947 and the couple moved to Albuquerque in 1949. He owned a building materials and construction business, The Mayhew Company, from 1954-1991. George was an avid collector of antique tools and restorer of antique furniture. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Albuquerque Petroleum Club. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE with the Reverend Thomas Hart officiating. A private burial will precede the service. Spurgeon -- James C. Spurgeon, 86, a resident of Rio Rancho from 1988 to 1999. James passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2001 in Columbus, Ohio. He had moved to Ohio after his wife, Helen passed away. He was born May 10, 1914 the son of William and Jessie Ray Spurgeon in West Virginia. He had been in Industial Relations with the B. F. Goodrich and North American Rockewll before retiring. James was preceded in death by his wife, Helen in July 1999. He is survived by his children, Thomas E. Spurgeon of Dublin, OH, Nancy Whitman and husband, Thomas of Doylestown, OH, James (Bill) Spurgeon and wife, Judy of San Marcos, CA, Marilyn J. Wilder and husband, Walter of Kettering, OH, Judy Smith of Burbank, CA, and Dr. Gerald Lesniak of Billingham, WA; two sisters; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today, Monday, March 5, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Parlor of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with the Service on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Valverde -- Mrs. Delilia Patricia (Perea) Valverde, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, won her battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends. She was called home to be in the presence of Jesus on Friday, March 2, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. She is survived by her husband, Daniel; sons, Clinton, Christopher and Antonio; granddaughter, Shannon; sisters, Filomena Cordova, Margarita Cline, Vicky Werner and Mary Chavez; brothers, Ignacio Perea, Teofilio Perea, Jr., Bobby Perea, Richard Perea and Thomas Perea. She is now reunited with her parents, Teofilio and Trinidad Perea, who resided in Corrales, NM. Rosary will be recited Monday, March 5, 2001, 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, March 6, 2001, 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery with an auto procession to the cemetery immediately following the Mass. A reception will be held upon return to Albuquerque at the lower-level meeting room of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Helen Flores, Rita Ortega, Isabel Guillen, Delfina Maestas, Anita Garcia and Carlotta Fischer. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the Altar Rosary Society members from St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Weakley -- Marilyn Weakley, 74, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, March 1, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Lauren Deen and husband, David of Littleton, Co; sons, Chris Weakley of Key Largo, Fl and Dana Weakley of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Joel and Stephanie Deen of Littleton, Co, Michelle and Daniel Weakley of Las Vegas, NV; and brother, Leonard Brown of Boise, ID. She was preceded in death, by her husband, Lawrence P. Weakley, in 1991 and sister, Laurene Hawkins. Marilyn was born in Nebraska and raised in Idaho where she met her husband, Lawrence P. Weakley. They were married in 1945 and she accompanied him during his many tours of service in the United States Air Force. They retired in Albuquerque in 1968 where he worked for the BIA. They continued to travel throughout the world and the United States. Marilyn enjoyed painting, volunteering for the Red Cross at Kirtland Air Force Base Pharmacy and working as a judge in elections. She had a great love for the outdoors, the mountains and always had a smile for others. Marilyn loved exotic flowers especially gardenias. She was a beloved mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Paul Gleason officiating.
