Obituary for Alderete

Melquiades Alderete, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 3, 2001 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 23, 1921 in Willard, NM, was a resident of Albuquerque. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 606 Bomb Squadron from 1942-1945 as a bombadeer/navigator on a B-24 Liberator. He graduated from St. Joseph's College and taught mathematics for the Cuba School System and Bernalillo School System for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wrought iron work, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Josephine Alderete; his children, Anthony Alderete and wife, Mary, Charles Alderete and wife, Deborah, Joseph Alderete and wife, Betty, Raymond Alderete and Catherine Baca, Thomas Alderete and wife, Marie, Therese Samuel-Alderete, Kathryn Alvelais and husband, Ernesto, Phillip Alderete and wife, Jeanette, Florence Lopez and husband, Michael, Steven Alderete and wife, Jeannette; 20 precious grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian Alderete and Canuta Tenorio Alderete and his brother, Melcor Alderete. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is pending and will be announced. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be his grandsons, Julian Alderete, Juan Carlos Samuel-Alderete, Ernesto Alvelais, Joseph Alderete, John Paul Samuel-Alderete, and Anthony Alderete. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Melquiades Alderete, LULAC Scholarship Fund, Attn: Lucy M. Gabaldon, LULAC Council 8020, (505) 243-3787.
