Bassett -- George L. Bassett, 83, a lifelong resident of Edgewood, died Sunday, August 27, 2000. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Cooper of Albuquerque, Linnie Malott of San Dimas, CA, and Eunice King of Amarillo; brother, Carl Bassett of Edgewood; and 15 nieces and nephews. George was born October 1, 1916 in what was then known as Venus, NM, but was later renamed Edgewood. His parents, William Oscar and Clara May Bassett homesteaded their land in 1912. George completed his formal education at Venus Number One School. He then enrolled in a technical program in California, where he specialized in welding and mechanical work. When he returned to Edgewood, George started a welding shop. Through the years, he acquired extensive land holdings and he was engaged in ranching and farming for over 55 years. In 1991, Mr. Bassett was awarded a certificate of recognition for his many years of service with the Edgewood Soil and Water Conservation District. He operated much of the equipment that built numerous earthen dams throughout the Estancia Valley. In later years, he developed several residential sub-divisions. Mr. Bassett was a WWII veteran in the Army Air Force and he was a longtime member of the American Legion in Moriarty. Services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Edgewood, with Pastor Richard Crow officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Loran Hill, Paul Switzer, William (Buddy) Dunn, Carl R. Williams, Eugene Bassett and Glen Bassett. Bonjour -- ROSEBUD BONJOUR August 5, 1915 - August 23, 2000Edith Rosebud Bonjour, age 85, was born August 5, 1915 in Thomas, New Mexico. Rosebud is survived by her daughter, Sheree Cannon of Floydada, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Sara Bonjour of Amarillo; brothers, Vincent Crisp of Clayton, Norman Crisp of Amarillo, TX; three sisters, Martha Wood of Mountainair, Lorrenne Rigsby of Austin, TX, and Loretta West of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Bonjour; and her son, Buddie Bonjour. Rosebud was the daughter of the late Ira Nain and Minnie A. Crisp, early Union County homesteaders. She attended school in Mansker, New Mexico and married Virgil on January 16, 1935 in Clayton. She was a longtime employee of Fedway Department Stores in Amarillo. Having lived in Amarillo for many years, she moved to Floydada in 1994. She died in Floydada Rehab and Care Center on August 23, 2000. Rosebud's grandson, the Reverend Darrell Bonjour, officiated at her Funeral service held on Saturday, August 26, 2000. She was interred in the Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas, next to her husband, Virgil.

Bowers -- Wayne Emerson Bowers, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Sunday, August 27, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Ruth G. Bowers; sons, Ira W. Bowers and wife, Nadine, all of Albuquerque, Nathan W. Bowers and wife, Victoria of Loveland, CO; daughters, Leanna K. Bowers and Rosalinda Bowers, both of Albuquerque; brothers, Don Bowers and wife, Vivian and Neil Bowers, all of Indiana; step-daughters, Peggy Vallecorsa and husband, Marius, Dianna Hargis, Jimi Gonzales, all of Albuquerque, Debbie Kay Hatley and husband, Jerry of Lindrith and Karen Musser and husband, Pat of Pennsylvania; stepson, Michael McDaniel and wife, Lori of Albuquerque; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Wayne devoted his life to helping others and was tolerant, strong willed and never intended any harm. He was a perfectionist and that reflected in every aspect of his life. Mr. Bowers was a longtime former member of Northside Gospel Tabernacle Church. Wayne and Ruth helped many, many foster children. His hope was to have his own church and minister to others. He left this earth only after making peace with the Lord. Wayne played his harmonica and communed with the Lord in spirit and he has been a living testimony to many. Services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Joe Lowry officiating. Brooks -- Adella A. Brooks, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000. She is survived by her son, Edwin S. Brooks and wife, Jean of Albuquerque; grandsons, Wayne A. Brooks and wife, Patricia of Bosque Farms, Jeffery Scott Brooks of Albuquerque, Stephen Snook and wife, Brenda of Louisville, KY and Robert Snook of Franklin, NJ; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Llawayne Snook of Newton, NJ. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Faith in Christ Lutheran Church. Services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Rev. Brown -- Surrounded by his family, Theodore R. Brown, 94, passed away peacefully as he slept August 27 at 4:00 a.m. At his bedside was his beloved wife, Ruth, his sons James Brown, Ted F. Brown, Charles F. Brown all of Albuquerque and his daughter Ellie Rucker of Albuquerque and Austin, Texas, his sister Hazel Brown, adopted family member Mildred Benton, and brother Clarence"Brownie" of Pueblo, Colo. Preceding him in death were, his brothers Carroll of Colorado Springs and, Fay of Fresno, Calif., and his sisters Myrtle T. and Ruth K. Brown. A resident of Albuquerque for 80 years, Ted was born in Waubaunsee, Kansas August 31, 1906 to Lyon James Brown and Mary Letty McAlister. Ted's family left Kansas in a covered wagon, headed for the Land of Enchantment. His father opened a second hand store on Gold Avenue. At age 14 Ted took his first job in Albuquerque, delivering telegrams on a bicycle. He built New Mexico's largest highway construction company, Brown Construction Company. His orange colored equipment built much of New Mexico's Interstate highway system. He broke new ground by beginning the first employee profit sharing plan in NM construction industry. During WWII he built airports, bunkers, towers, and runways for the domestic war effort. At one point he was building one airfield every 90 days. He was selected to build the top secret project at Trinity Site where the first Atomic bomb was exploded. Ted had a special interest for the underprivileged, the underdog, and those who couldn't help themselves. He supported the Navajo Indians financially, spiritually and medically at a time when few people had even heard of a Navajo, much less a Hogan. He supported Albuquerque Rescue Mission, as well as missions in Guatemala, Mexico, India and Africa. He was a founding member of Albuquerque's Grace Church, President of Associated Contractors of New Mexico, and a founding director of Mountain States Mutual Casualty Co. Services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at Hoffmantown Baptist Church, 8888 Harper NE, with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Eldon Banks, Charles Bennett, Melvin Fitzgerald, Bynard Fox, Jim Rightley, and C.D. Thurston. Cavalier -- Matthew George Cavalier, 34, was called home by our Lord on Sunday, August 27, 2000. Matthew will be missed by his loving mother, father, caring brothers, and all of his family and friends. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elsie Castillo Cortez, who he joins in heaven. He is survived by his mother, Flora Cavalier; father, George Cavalier; brothers, Gerald Cavalier and wife, Joyce, Thomas Cavalier and wife, Deana, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Gerald Jr., Jacob, David, Thomas Jr., Chris, Adrian and Sean. Survivors also include many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Also, Matthew's spiritual advisor and longtime friend, Pastor Tony (Porky) Apodaca. Matthew was known for his love and devotion to his family and our Lord. Services will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW, with a Rosary to be recited by James Rael at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2000. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2000. Eulogy will be given by Pastor Tony Apodaca. Burial will follow at San Pedro Cemetery. Gentry -- Fern Christine Gentry, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home Monday morning, August 28, 2000. She was born October 28, 1920 to John and Mamie Simpson in Wilderness, MO. Fern married Thomas P. Gentry on January 15, 1941 in Bernalillo. She spent most of her life in El Paso, TX and was a former resident of Albuquerque before moving to Oklahoma City five years ago. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Lewis and Arnold Simpson; and a sister, Sybil Hughes. Fern is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Thomas P. Gentry of the home; daughter, Tomilou Fern Gentry Liddell of Oklahoma City; brother, Rex Simpson of Raymore, MO; two grandchildren, Luci Belinda Liddell, Jesse Duncan Thomas Liddell; and a nephew, Dick Hughes of Ft. Davis, TX. Graveside services will be officiated by Dr. Guy Ames, 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2000, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City. Griego -- Johnnie Lee Griego, 48, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, August 28, 2000. He is survived by his two sons, Johnnie Lee Griego Jr. and Derek Paul Griego, both of Albuquerque; parents, Celestino and Margaret Griego of Albuquerque; two sisters, Geri Ortega and husband, George of Westminster, CO and Helen Quintana and husband, Charles of Albuquerque; and two brothers, Celestino (Tino) Griego and wife, Carmen of Albuquerque and Danny Griego and wife, Evelyn of Westminster, CO; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Griego graduated in 1969 from Albuquerque High School. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Bishop Orlando Trujillo reciting. Gurule -- Santiago Gurule, born January 24, 1960 in Albuquerque, died August 24, 2000 in Dallas, Texas. Santiago attended Albuquerque Academy, Austin College, Texas Wesleyan University and Middlebury College. He lived in Mexico, France and Japan, and traveled extensively throughout the world. His accomplishments include the mastery of eight languages. He was a gifted teacher and committed voice for diversity and multiculturalism. He taught at St. Pius High School in Albuquerque, and in the last years of his life, Santiago worked as the Director of International Students at the University of Texas at Dallas, and most recently, as the Director of Multicultural Life at the Episcopal School of Dallas. He also taught Spanish and French at ESD as teaching was always his passion. Santiago was preceded in death by his father, Frutoso Gurule; his brother, Jesse Gurule; and his sister, Lorraine Valles. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Gurule; his sister, Isabel and husband, John J. Vigil; and his brother, Rudy Gurule and countless devoted family members and friends. Santiago expressed a special devotion to his nieces and nephew. Services will be held at St. Edwin's Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. SW, at 12:00 noon. Lucero -- Tony M. Lucero Sr., 89, passed away at home with his family, August 28, 2000. A native New Mexican since before statehood, he was born in Las Vegas to Jubencio and Adela Lucero. He was a former captain in the Red Cross, served as Motor Vehicle Commissioner, loved carpentry and gardening. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Henrietta G. Lucero on December, 1998; and son, Tony M. Lucero Jr. in June, 1955. Tony is survived by his children, Ludger Lucero and wife, Judy, Robert Lucero and wife, Joan, Darlene Pientka, Tandy M. Lucero and wife, Terri, Louella C. Lucero, Donna M. Lucero; and adopted daughter, Brenda Powell; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Aurora Garcia, Viola Ortiz, Consuelo Trujillo; brothers, Ignacio Lucero, Frank Lucero, and numerous other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Sandoval -- Dennis G. Sandoval, 41, passed away on Sunday August 27, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia (Sissy) Sandoval; two daughters, Valerie and April Sandoval; one son, Mario Sandoval; and a granddaughter, Destiny Gonzales. Also surviving are his parents, Johnnie and Jennie Sandoval; four brothers, Pat Sandoval, Ronnie Sandoval, Moe Sandoval, and Julian Sandoval; grandmother, Maria Sandoval; a Godson, Jeremy Torres; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning, 10:00 a.m., at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. Silva -- Edith (Edie) Silva passed away August 28, 2000 at her residence in Socorro. She was born July 12, 1927 in Nogalas, NM. She is survived by her husband, Nick Silva of the home; her sons, Sonny and wife, Cecelia, James and wife, Rosie, Nick Jr. and wife, Amanda, Bobby and wife, Georgia, Timmy, Larry and Tino Silva, all of Socorro and Jerry Silva of Hopewell, VA; daughters, Mary Ann Ruiz and husband, Jose of Socorro, Bonnie Montoya and husband, Max of Belen, Jeanette Chavez and husband, Esteven of Socorro, Cindy Anchondo and husband, Lazaro of Los Lunas and Peggy Camacho of Socorro. She is survived by 54 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at San Miguel Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be recited at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2000 at San Miguel Church. Interment was in the San Miguel Cemetery. Pallbearers were her eight sons. Twaddle -- Ruth E. Twaddle, 78, resident of Albuquerque for 58 years, passed away Friday, August 25, 2000. Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert Twaddle; one son, Steve Twaddle of Mojave Valley, AZ; one daughter, Barbara Twaddle of Irving, TX; two granddaughters, Lauren Elkins of Dallas, TX and Sydney Rose Twaddle of Mojave Valley, AZ; and many friends. Ruth retired from AT&T. She was active many years in Junior Rodeo. Memorial services will be held at the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2000.
