Baca -- Ben Baca, 33, a resident of Bernalillo, passed away Sunday, December 5, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Tasha Baca; his father, Juan Baca and wife, Bertha of Los Lunas; his mother, Viola Baca of Bernalillo; two sons, Dominic Valdez and Vicente Baca; one daughter, Francina Baca, all of Albuquerque; two brothers, Andy Baca and Juan E. Baca and wife, Jessica, both of Bernalillo; two sisters, Mary Arrellano and husband, Joel, Veronica Gurule and husband, Greg, both of Bernalillo. Also surviving are nieces, Ashley Arellano, Michele Gurule, Danielle Gurule; and nephews, Jerome Baca, Jesus Gurule, and Richy Arellano; his special friends, Tony Riboni, Antionette Riboni, Brandon Hershey; and many uncles and aunts. Ben attended Bernalillo High School and also served in the Army National Guard. Ben also loved football and card collecting. He was a member of the Calvary Chapel. An evening service will be conducted Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 12, 1999 at the Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at the San Carlos Catholic Cemetery. BBaca -- Belia A. Baca, born in Aragon, New Mexico on July 14, 1944, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 5, 1999. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was a member of the Secular Order of Dicalced Carmelites for 12 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Ramon Aragon; her mother, Beatrice Aragon; and her brother, Bobby Aragon. She is survived by her loving husband, Jake J. Baca; her children, Becky and Darrick Chavez, Judith and John Madrid; her step-children, Beverly Baca and Jackie and Ray Moya; one brother, Andrew Aragon; six sisters, Frances Chavez and her husband, George, Vivian Torres, Rose Aragon, Rudolpha Gomez; sister, Mary Celine, Cecilia Abbots and her husband, Dave; seven great-grandchildren, Julia M. Chavez, Matthew Baca, Lashae Madrid, Andrew J. Chavez, Briana M. Bokamper -- Mildred Ida Bokamper, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1980, died Sunday, December 5, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Bokamper; and her grandson, Thomas Bokamper. Mrs. Bokamper was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She is survived by her sons, Richard and wife, Dorothy of San Clemente, CA., and Thomas Bokamper and wife, Gloria of Collierville, TN.; grandchildren, Kurt Bokamper, Diane Bokamper Ball, Rick Bokamper and Cindy Bokamper Hatchett; great-grandchildren, Erika, Katie and Ben Bokamper, Jennifer and Heather Hatchett and Devon and Dylan Ball. Carpenter -- William R. Carpenter, Jr., 70, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died Saturday, December 4, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathy Carpenter; son, Dennis Carpenter and wife, Carol; grandson, Chad Carpenter and wife, Lindsey; granddaughters, Amber Carpenter and Ashley Carpenter; great-granddaughter, Amanda Carpenter; step-granddaughter, Madline Livermore; step-grandsons, Gannon Livermore and Cameron Livermore all of Albuquerque; sisters, Violet Swords of Akron, OH, Ardeane Milligan and husband, Bill, Laverne Fielitz and husband, Dick and Martha Lee Merten and husband, Bob all of California. Mr. Carpenter retired from the Air Force, fighting in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He managed the Kirtland AFB Officers Club from 1970-1977. In 1977, he became self employed and currently owns Swel's Family Restaurant and Coors Cafe. He was a member of St. Charles Borremeo Parish. He loved people and had a love for life. Clark -- Lola Louise Clark, 71, a resident of Rio Rancho for the last six months, coming from Velva, North Dakota, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 1999. Lola was born June 15, 1928 in Porterville, California, the daughter of James William and Addie Lee Robinson Jenkins. Lola was preceded in death by one brother, Ben Jenkins. Devargas -- Jerome Antonio DeVargas, age 16, of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, December 4, 1999. He was born January 25, 1985 to Rosemarie DeVargas. He was currently attending vocational school and was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Parish in Albuquerque. Jerome is survived by his loving mother, Rosemarie DeVargas of Albuquerque; his brothers, Joshua and Jacob DeVargas of Albuquerque; grandparents, Pete and Geraldine DeVargas of Santa Fe; uncles, Peter DeVargas, David DeVargas and John DeVargas, all of Albuquerque; aunt, Eva DeVargas of Santa Fe; great-grandmother, Adelina Roybal of Santa Fe; and many cousins, uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends. Dodge -- Wilson (Bill) Dodge, age 55, a resident of Albuquerque died in an auto accident in Utah on Saturday. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pammy; children: daughter, Molly and husband, Jason of Nasshua, NH; son, Christian and wife, Amber of San Diego, CA; sons, Jeremy, Christopher, and Phillip; sister, Pat and husband John of Mahopac, NY; and sister Nancy of Beacon, NY; his dear cousin, Richard Foell; numerous family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. He was a retiree of USWest Communications, and a member of Holy Rosary Parish. Bill was a very special and loving man who touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be deeply missed. Dutton -- Karen Dutton, 40, a resident of Albuquerque, and formerly of Ventura, CA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 2, 1999 in her home. She is survived by her fiancee, Leonard Holloway; her beloved mother, Daphne Dutton of Ventura, CA; her sister, Jane Dutton; dear friend, Susan Nest, both of Worcester, MA; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in England and Washington State; and her friends and associates at Sunrooms Plus. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur N. Dutton, who died in 1997. Karen was the controller of Sunrooms Plus, Inc. and owned her own business, Dutton Accounting. She was also highly regarded as an interior designer. Karen was born on October 8, 1959 in Maine and her early childhood was spent in England, Holland and Italy. The Dutton family came to Ventura, CA in 1966 and Karen attended Mount Elementary School, Balboa Junior High, Buena High, and graduated from Ventura High School. She continued her education in Santa Barbara. Karen touched many lives in her short life. She had an amazing spirit that was constantly giving to others. She had a wonderful sense of humor that came through in her hearty laugh. Her kindness to business associates, friends and animals were legendary. Karen will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister and friend. She was a bright light in this world and she will be forever missed. Hames -- Wanda Lee Hames, a very dear and much loved aunt, died December 1, 1999 at her home in Mesa, Arizona. She was born May 8, 1926 in Melbourne, Arkansas. She went to Nursing School in Little Rock, Arkansas and then joined the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, she went on to become the Head Psychiatric Nurse the Veteran's Hospital here in Albuquerque for many years. After retirement she traveled in her motorhome and eventually landed in Solano Beach, California, where she co-owned the Mon Ami Restaurant. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Pleas and Ruth Hames; and by her brother, J.C."Jake" Hames. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Hames of Albuquerque; her nephews, Jim Hames of Kansas City, MO and Hal Hames of Albuquerque; and her niece, Penny Hames Kouri of Albuquerque, their spouses and children. She is also survived by her dear friend, June Berridge of Mesa, AZ; and her daughter, Shane Berridge of Bonsall, CA. She had countless friends all over the United States. Her great sense of humor, her determination, and love of life will be missed by everyone who ever met her. Turner and husband, Charles of Hallsville, TX, Sandra K. Knudsen of Albuquerque and Karen R. Gmyr and husband, Daniel of Albuquerque; 21 grandchildren; sisters Dona Miller and husband, Ray of Logan, UT, Lavone Stokes of Salt Lake City, UT, Georgia Dalton and husband, David of Salt Lake City, UT, and Maridean Bean and husband, Hardy of Orem, UT; and brothers. She was a graduate of Brigham Young University and a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had served in numerous church positions, including serving in the Family History Center. At the time of her death, she was serving as a teacher in the church's institute program and as a church service missionary, together with her husband, at the construction site of the new Albuquerque New Mexico Temple. Services will be held Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at the Montano Stake Center, 1100 Montano, NW with Bishop Carl Osborn of the North Valley Ward, officiating. Montoya -- Jose Domingo Montoya, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 6, 1999. Mr. Montoya was the beloved husband of 63 years to Mrs. Eugenia Montoya. He is also survived by four daughters, Prudy Holguin and husband, Zef, Eleanor Martinez and husband, Frank, Odilia Romero and Priscilla Darby and husband, Dave; two sons, Edward Montoya and Vidal Montoya and fiance, Chris Parra; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one nephews and two nieces. Mr. Montoya was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, with visitation after 6:30 p.m. A second night Rosary will be Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springer, NM. Navarre -- Billie Navarre, a colorful and prominent area rancher, passed away at age 81 at her Prewitt ranch home in the early morning of December 4, 1999. She came to McGaffey, New Mexico with her family when she was six years old. She was born on November 13, 1918 to Tex and Jo Hargus. She spent most of her adult life in McKinley County. She married Roy"Pistol" Navarre on April 13, 1936. They had been married almost 52 years when Mr. Navarre passed away in 1988. She is survived by her only daughter, Kay Navarre Latham and her husband, Bruce; grandson Brad Navarre Latham and his wife, Jean Ann; granddaughter, Kamey Latham Smith and her husband, Von; one great-great-granddaughter, Lindsey Latham; and her only sister, Mrs. Jack Cooper; two nieces, Mrs. Lee Carver and Mrs. Jon Meyers. Mrs. Navarre was well known for her colorful way of life and her western style hats. She was also a local historian, having written several articles on the early days in this area. She worked with the Forest Service on their research of the logging industry in McGaffey in the early 1900s. In recent years, poor health had kept her confined pretty much to her Prewitt home. And so far as her family and friends grieve and say our farewells, we find comfort in John 3:16, that"whosoever believeth in me shall have everlasting life." She was blessed in knowing where her final ride would take her. There will be a visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Grants Mortuary Chapel and a wake service at 7:00 p.m. that evening. The Funeral will be held at the Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. George Brittain and the Rev. Don Poisson officiating. Pallbearers will be Tom Simpson, Micky Fuhs, Ronnie Elkins, Roy Mark Elkins, Danny Brimhall, John Jekeilek, Larry Smith, and Micky Menapace. Pierce -- Raymond"Ray" Pierce, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1943, died Sunday, December 5, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vivian Tillery Pierce; daughters, Barbara Ann Pierce Moore, and Carolyn Pierce Smith and husband, Mac, all of Texas; grandchildren, Zane Allen Moore and wife, Kathy and William Kurt Moore, all of Texas, and Shawn McDonald Smith and wife, Joy of California; great-granddaughter, Christina Angele McKenzie Smith of California; and many, many loved nieces and nephews. Ray was a longtime member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church and was the first Sunday School Superintendent. He worked with Creamland Dairies for 20 years and was with Ed Black's Chevrolet in truck sales for 17 years, retiring in 1986. Ray loved people and enjoyed life. He was very dearly loved and will be missed greatly. Services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho and Rev. Gerald Farley officiating. Pohlmann -- Bernard H. Pohlmann, Jr., a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 1999 at the age of 86. He was born on April 9, 1913 in Davenport, Iowa. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth J. (Betty) Pohlmann; and son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. B. H. Pohlmann of Augusta, GA; their children, Ben, Jared, David, Jonathon of Augusta, GA and Beth Pohlmann of New Orleans, LA; daughter and husband, Elizabeth (Betty) and Jim Mennes, of Waynesboro, VA; their children, Scott Evans of Richmond, VA and Brenda Carter of Verona, VA; great-grandchildren, Austin and Evan Carter; sisters, Sibyla Rassmussen, Charlotte Thompson, and Lillian Mucha all from Davenport, Iowa. Bern was a graduate of St. Ambrose College and Browns Business College, Davenport, Iowa. He was employed by Rock Island Arsenal, for 12 years then during WWII was transferred to Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. He retired in 1973 at which time the family relocated to Albuquerque. Bern was an avid hunter and fisherman. During his retirement he traveled extensively with his wife Betty in their motor home. Bern was an active member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church. He served the church as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Usher. He was a member of the Knights of the Columbus and served as Grand Knight and District Deputy for the Los Alamos Council. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Ronald Bruckner and Deacon Harry Gogan at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7 at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont, NE. Interment will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens followed by a reception and luncheon at the church community center. Porter -- Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 1999 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Neil O. Porter, who passed away December 3, 1999, at a local nursing home. Dr. Bobby Renfro of the First Baptist Church will conduct the service. Special music will be provided by Richard Lair and Richard Dove. Neil was born May 8, 1932 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, to Roy and Carolyn Dowswell Porter. His parents preceded him in death. His wife of 25 years, Polly Lair Porter survives him at the family home. Neil worked as a professional Jazz Pianist for 45 years and was highly regarded for his superb musical ability. He performed in many fine clubs and lounges all over the U.S., but most extensively in Albuquerque. He also accompanied such greats as famous jazz singer, Anita O'Day and was a studio musician for Glen Campbell. Neil served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956. Neil moved to Roswell in 1983, where he chose to retire. Other survivors are two sons, Derrick Porter of Largo, FL and Kevin Porter of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Susan Porter of Albuquerque. Also surviving is one brother, Lynn Porter of Sapulpa, OK; two sisters, Gail Porter of Cedar Crest, Connie Patterson of Largo, FL; one grandson; and special friends, Bernard Ginsberg, Paul Farmer, Richard Lopez, Dave Featherstone and Hal Olsen. Friends may make memorial in Mr. Porter's memory to the Chaves County Health Center Dental Services, 1511 S. Grand, Roswell, New Mexico 88201. Romankiw -- Daniel Romankiw, my dad. A good man, who worked his entire life. He cherished his family, loved the Lobos and really liked enchiladas. He served his country with the United States Marine Corps in the Korean Conflict. Then he worked for NWEF at Kirtland Air Force Base for over 35 years. He did a lot of yardwork around the home he was so proud of, but he wishes he was at Willow Creek. He finished this leg of his journey on December 4, 1999 at 5:17 p.m. with his best friend and wife, Rosalea Romankiw by his side. Vallejos -- Salomon Vallejos, 93, a resident of Los Lunas, died at the Sun Bridge Care and Rehabilitation Facility on Sunday, December 5, 1999. Salomon was a member of the San Clemente Parish in Los Lunas. He worked for Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, and also served as Valencia and Bernalillo County District Court Clerk, from where he retired almost 29 years ago. Salomon's greatest pleasures in life were working in his garden, driving his tractor and being with his family. He enjoyed the many pleasures of family get togethers, especially having his grandchildren around him. His many grandchildren affectionately knew him as"Gramps". Salomon was preceded in death by his two grandsons, Fred Jr. and Lloyd Luna. Salomon is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Cecilia of the family home; his daughters, Nina Vialpando, Emilia (Mila) and her husband, John Boehler of Albuquerque, Consuelo and her husband, Fred Luna, Nathalie and her husband, Bill Gallagher of Santa Fe; and his son-in-law, Tony Vialpando of Los Lunas; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. The family will be receiving family and friends after 7:00 p.m. at the church. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. at San Clemente Church with visitation at the church at 9:30 a.m. Father Rick, Celebrant. Interment of the cremains will follow at the San Clemente Cemetery. Walsh -- Anna C. Walsh, 90, passed away Sunday, December 5, 1999. She was born Anna Cardoza in East Boston, MA. in 1909 and worked for many years as a schoolteacher there. During WWII, Anna served in the Women's Army Corps. Following the war, she moved to Phoenix, AZ with her husband, Edward, who died in 1951. In Phoenix, she worked for the Veterans Administration until returning to Boston and earning a Masters Degree in Library Science. She then moved to Chandler, AZ where she worked as an elementary school librarian until retiring and moving to Albuquerque. She is survived by a son, Michael, his wife, Theresa; and two grandchildren, Laura and Rachel, all of Albuquerque; as well as many nieces and nephews from the Boston area. All will miss her greatly. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE, with Father Ronald Bruckner, Celebrant. Wayman -- Ellen May Wayman, 90, a resident of Albuquerque for 4 years and a former resident of El Paso, Texas for 40 years, died Saturday, December 4, 1999. Yates -- Louise D. Yates died on Sunday afternoon, December 5, 1999. She was the mother of three sons, Fred G. Yates, and George M. Yates, both of Roswell, and Harvey Yates, Jr. of Albuquerque. In addition to her three sons, she is survived by one brother, Roy Davidson, of Raton, New Mexico. She was predeceased by two other brothers, Earl Davidson of Santa Fe, and Bill Davidson of Carlsbad. Louise lived most of her adult life in Artesia, though she had resided for the last seven months in Albuquerque where she died. There will be memorial services in both Albuquerque and Artesia though those arrangements are pending and will be announced once made.
