Baros -- Mrs. Nora E. Baros, 43, a resident of Albuquerque, born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away on November 27, 1999. Mrs. Baros was the beloved wife of 15 years to Augustin Baros. She is also survived by one daughter, Patricia Baros; two sons, Andres Baca and Lawrence Baros; her parents, Ramon and Lugarda Trujillo; six sisters, Helen Olivas and husband, Julian, Dolores Jiron and husband, William, Mary Ann Gonzales, Rita Bulger and husband, Leon, Marcella Bartley and husband, Robert and Lucy Lopez and husband, Jesus; three brothers, Ray Trujillo, Michael Trujillo and wife, Patricia and David Trujillo; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Baros was a member of the Catholic Church and graduated from West Las Vegas High School. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening, 7:00 p.m., at St. Edwins Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. SW, with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Julian Olivas, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning, 10:00 a.m., at St. Edwins Church with final viewing at the church after 9:30 a.m. Father Hernandez, Celebrant. Beserra -- Mr. Frank Beserra, longtime resident and political leader of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 1999. A Rosary is being held on Tuesday, November 30, 7:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 4th and Stover SW. Internment services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 1, 9:30 a.m., at National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Mr. Beserra is survived by his wife, Beatrice; his sons, Frank Beserra Jr. from Washington, DC, Rudy and Lois Beserra from Atlanta, GA, Carlos and Angie Beserra of San Antonio, TX; four granddaughters, Andreaa Bencomo, Nicole Beserra, Alana and Olivia Beserra; and two sisters, Ruth Griego, Lanny Apodaca and her husband, Richard. Mr. Beserra was a veteran of World War II, a life member of the American Legion, and former Commander of Post 13. He also served as a member of the Model Cities Board. Mr. Beserra, through his actions, instilled in us to always be proud of who we are and where we are from. The Beserra family would like everyone to know that the comfort and support that all our family and friends have given us during the past week is very much appreciated. Blumenthal -- Mary Jean Blumenthal, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1938, passed away at home on November 28, 1999, after a long illness. She was born on April 24, 1920 to Ellery and Verda Worthen in Wellsburg, WV. Mary graduated valedictorian of her high school class in Wellsburg and came to New Mexico in 1938 to study anthropology at the University of New Mexico. She participated in field schools at Chaco Canyon and other notable archaeological sites around the state and received her degree in anthropology in 1942. She married Ernst H. Blumenthal, Jr. on September 14, 1946. Mary was employed by the University of New Mexico Zimmerman Library for 24 years, retiring in 1985. She was responsible for the Clinton P. Anderson Reading Room, and her knowledge of the exact location and subject of every book in that repository of Southwestern history and literature was legendary. While working at the Anderson Room, Mary made a valuable contribution to the oral history of New Mexico by transcribing hundreds of hours of old reel to reel audio tapes recorded by the Pioneer Foundation in the early 1950's. Before her illness, Mary enjoyed hunting wild mushrooms and collecting antique crocks. She was a highly skilled seamstress, quilter and grower of extraordinary African Violets. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Ernie of the family home; son, Ernst H. Blumenthal, III and wife, Cynthia; daughter, Susan Jane Blumenthal, all of Placitas; grandson, Aaron David Dixon of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Aedriel Verda Mulliniks and husband, Mike of Las Cruces; and grandson, Soren Ernst Gaiser of Placitas. She was preceded in death by her brother, William H. Worthen; and sister, Susan Jane Hanna McMahon. Cremation has taken place and a memorial reception will be held Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Cillessen -- George Henry Cillessen, Sr., 73, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, November 27, 1999. He is survived by his son, Butch Cillessen and wife, Margie of Albuquerque; daughter, Charlotte"Susie" Cape and husband, Dave of Bosque Farms; son, Billy Joseph Cillessen and wife, Patti of Flora Vista, NM; daughter, Laura Marie Johnson and husband, Earl of Bosque Farms; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special thanks to Shirley. Cornelison -- CALLIE L. CORNELISONCallie was born in Blanchard, OK, December 28, 1907, and died on November 26, 1999, in Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph B.; and son, Joe Carroll; also six sisters; and one brother. Survivors include daughter, Shirley (Frank) Alfano of Tucson; son, Wallace of Seoul, Korea; grandson, Zane (Donna) Heard of Rio Rancho; granddaughter, Leslie (Mark) McCullough of Albuquerque; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Callie was a longtime resident of Albuquerque and a devoted member of the Church of Christ at Netherwood Park and Mountainside Congregations. Callie is fondly remembered by many for her sense of humor and ever-present positive outlook on life. She will be greatly missed. Doyon -- Mike Doyon, 51, following a long illness, died at home of Saturday, November 27, 1999. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Alfred Doyon and Mary M. Doyon, respectively. He is survived by his wife, Amelia Lopez Doyon; and son and best friend, Marcos; and daughter, his pumpkin, Nichole; along with his sisters, Susan Ballard and Patricia Doyon, both of Manchester, NH. Also surviving is his step-mother, Lorraine. Mike was born in Manchester, NH, and went to school there, graduating in 1966. Following, he enlisted in the US Army, and after serving four years, he was honorably discharged. Shortly afterwards, he moved to Albuquerque, where he enrolled and graduated from the University of New Mexico. After working in New Mexico for many years as a purchasing manager, his company relocated him to Sugarland, Texas, where he continued his job and resided with his family until he passed away. The praying of a Rosary will be held Wednesday, the 1st of December, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th St. NW. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the name of Mike Doyon, at the Church of the Risen Savior at 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, in Albuquerque, Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:00 noon. Duran -- Luis Duran, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, was called home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 28, 1999. Mr. Duran was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque; son of the late Antonio and Agatha Duran; he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; he loved family gatherings; and will always be remembered for his great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Duran on August 6, 1999; and a brother, Tony Duran. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Natalie Duran of the family home; seven sons, Joe Duran and wife, Liz, Daniel Duran, both of Albuquerque, Michael Duran of Edgewood, Manuel Duran, Henry Duran, Tony Duran and wife, Judy, and Louis Duran, all of Albuquerque; four daughters, Loretta Garcia and husband, Gregorio of Hernandez, NM, Elise Muller and husband, Frankie, Diana Pacheco and husband, Arturo and Angela Duran, all of Albuquerque; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Henry Duran and wife, Rose of Albuquerque; one sister, Mary Marquez and husband, Silviano of Moriarty; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all those who knew him. Kelley -- Sam Kelley Jr., 87, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 28 years, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 1999. Sam was born on January 10, 1912 in Brazal, Mississippi, the son of Sam Sr. and Julius Freeman Kelley. He had worked for General Motors in Flint, Michigan before retiring and coming to New Mexico. Sam is survived by his son, Jessie Keller of Rio Rancho; one sister, Leatrice Cleveland of Flint, MI; two grandchildren, Craig Keller and Floraindo Berrough of Flint, MI; five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; three nieces, Joann Keller, Rita Ward, and Betty Clarke; two nephews, C. McClainton and Jesse Galleon, all of Flint, MI. There will be a graveside service held on Thursday, December 2, 1999, at Vista Verde Memorial Park, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Kelton -- Jeanne Renick Kelton died November 26, 1999 and has been cremated. Memorial Services will be held in Belton, Texas. She had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1968. Jeanne was born at home in 1909 in Waco, TX to Samuel Renick and Lota Campbell Renick. She was a member of a well-known Texas pioneering family. She had a lifelong interest in history and was an officer in Daughter's of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy. She was the the fifth vice president of the Daughter's of the Republic of Texas and served on the board for The Alamo. She was very proud of her work during the Korean War when she was the Flag Chairman and made sure the boys from Texas had an Texas Flag. Jeanne studied at the New York School of Design and the Chicago Art Institute. In the 1930's she worked as an artist and had a studio in La Vieta in San Antonio, TX. In the 1960's she owned Kelton's Antiques in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Her life spanned the most profound and signifcant century in human history. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Boyd Johnson and their daughter, Jeanne Renick McDowell and her second husband, Horace Kelton and their son, Paul Bruce Kelton and her granddaughter, Heather Hickman. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Kelton-Born of Albuquerque, two sons, Peter Kelton and his wife, Sarah of Albuquerque, Michael Kelton and his wife, Eunice of Virginia Beach, VA; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She gave an appreciation of music, books and laughter to her grandchildren.

Kierst -- Alice Curran Kierst, 84, passed away at her daughter's home in Raton on Thursday, November 25, 1999. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on July 6, 1915, the daughter of John Curran of Glenmor, Ireland and Alice (Shea) Curran of Providence. She graduated from Pembroke College of Brown University in 1937. She was a social worker and teacher. She married David W. Kierst in 1941, who preceded her in death in 1985. She lived in Albuquerque from 1967 until moving to Raton in 1997. She is survived by her large family, to whom she was deeply devoted; one daughter, Katie and her husband, Byrch Williams of Raton; five sons: David and his wife, Julie Kierst of Kansas City, Missouri; Michael and his wife, Margaret Kierst of Arroyo Seco, NM; Gregory and his wife, Cindy Kierst of Rio Rancho, NM; Kevin and his wife KC Kierst of Arroyo Hondo, NM; Peter and his wife, Debra Kierst of Albuquerque, NM; 11 grandchildren: David and his wife, Shannon Kierst, Rachel, Alison, Sarah, Joseph, Noah, and Mary Kathleen Kierst, Nicholas, Elliot, Daniel and Emily Williams; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Kierst. Alice was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation parish in Albuquerque. She was a dedicated teacher for many years at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School in Albuquerque. She touched and enriched the lives of many students who remember her with great love and respect. The family will receive visitors at Magdalene Hall (the old convent) at Annunciation Church on Thursday, December 2, 1999 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am, to be followed at 11:30 by the celebration of a Funeral Mass in the church. Burial will immediately follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by the Errington Memorial Chapel in Raton, New Mexico.

Major -- James Arthur Major, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died November 25, 1999 in Denver, CO. He was born January 5, 1911 in Pilot Point, Texas and was married to Vera Burt, December 20, 1932 ,in Socorro. He is survived by his wife; son, James Major and wife, Bobbi of El Paso, TX; daughter, Camille and husband, Pershing Rexroad of North Highlands, CA; son, Steven Major of Denver; and brother, Charles Robert Major and wife, Lena of Albuquerque, plus many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services were held in Denver and the cremains will be placed with his parents, John E. and Winnie F. Major in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Albuquerque.

Mcknight -- E.B. (Ed) McKnight, of Helena MT, passed away Friday, November 26 at Fort Harrison VA Center after a long battle with cancer. Ed was born January 4th, 1929 in Winnsboro, LA to Estol Bridges and Minnie O. McKnight. Ed joined the Air Force in 1945 and served as a Flight Engineer throughout his career, retiring from active duty in 1966. During that time, he served in WWII, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He then served an additional two years in the A.F. Reserves from 1966-68. From 1968 to present, Ed had lived in Albuquerque and Chama, New Mexico, where he owned and operated an excavating and underground utilities company, and moved to Helena, MT in 1997. During his time in Chama, Ed served as Commander of the local American Legion Post. He is survived by his wife, Patricia McKnight of Helena, MT and her step-children; his former wife, Jo Ann Martinez of Chama; one son, C. Wayne McKnight of Tijeras, NM; daughter, Dee Ann Hessler of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Alamae Hattaway, Fae Perry, and Evelyn Maes, all of Monroe, LA; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy McKnight; and sister, Erlene Wollerson. Military services are pending arrangement and will be attended by immediate family. Ed was a man of strong character and fast friendships who was always there for his friends. We love you and will deeply miss you!

Oliver -- Earl D. Oliver, Major General, United States Army, Ret., peacefully became"our two star angel" on November 28, 1999, after a very brief battle with cancer. He will forever be loved by Pauline, his wife of 48 years, as well as his eight children, David D. Oliver and wife, Pam of Albuquerque, Deborah L. Pearce and husband, Chuck of Ft. Worth, TX, Dianna M. Sigler and husband, Michael of Albuquerque, Douglas P. Oliver and wife, Joanna of Albuquerque, Duke R. Oliver and wife, Linda of Albuquerque, Denis J. Sigler and husband, John of Boone, CO, Donna E. Burkhammer and husband, Elden of Albuquerque, and Dawn R. Trujillo and husband, Moses of Albuquerque; 30 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. General Oliver was born August 14, 1931 in Quincy, IL to Glenn and Vivian Oliver. He met his Polly in 1947 while in high school in Quincy. They married June 12, 1951, shortly after he joined the US Army. They moved their growing family to many army bases across the country before they decided to settle in Albuquerque in 1966. General Oliver served in Korea and Vietnam. He desperately loved and defended his country. Retiring from active duty in 1972, he found he wasn't quite ready to put his military career behind him and continued with the New Mexico State Defense Force until 1994. His love for music, his beautiful singing voice, reading, traveling the roads of his country and his never ending love, strength and guidance kept him very occupied and made him the love of our lives. He's now enjoying a walk with the Lord, his mother, father, his brother, Bruce, and his buddy dog,"Mr. D." Mr. Oliver was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. The family will be visiting with friends on Tuesday, November 30, 1999, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Oritz -- Connie Eloisa Ortiz. Words cannot express the love, devotion, and joy Connie Eloisa Ortiz showered on her family. Connie passed away very peacefully Saturday morning, November 27, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father, J. Willie Ortiz. She is survived by her mother, Flora Ortiz; her daughter, Deborah James Ortiz; her brother, Bobby Ortiz and wife, Eva and their children, Cynthia Coward, Roberta Murray, Denise Lujan, Sandra Ortiz, Geraldine Lugo, Ellie Ortiz and Sheila Romero; and several great-nieces and nephews. Porter -- Marie W. Porter died of cancer on Friday, November 26, 1999, at the age of 61. She died very peacefully and was surrounded by many friends and family. Marie was born December 12, 1937 in Poteet, TX. She graduated from Pleasanton High School in Pleasanton, TX in 1955. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX in 1970. She moved to Santa Fe in 1979 and was retired from the State Department of Corrections, where she worked as the volunteer coordinator from 1980 until 1998. She created the volunteer services program that exists today in New Mexico prisons. Marie was very much loved by all the volunteers, staff and inmates at correctional institutions statewide. She worked with the first lady, Alice King, to establish the Visitor Hospitality Centers at all of the state's prisons. She conceived of and organized,"Outta Joint at the Joint", a fun family visiting day with picnics and music at the state penitentiary. Marie is survived by her mother, Lois Wolfshohl of San Antonio, TX; her daughter, Margaret Porter of Albuquerque; her son, Peter Porter and wife, Amy and children, Brian and Amanda of Silverdale, WA; and her brother, John Wolfshohl and wife, JoAnn of Houston, TX. Marie was an extraordinary person who loved life. She loved adventure, traveling, and the wilderness. She recently complete a solo road trip to Mexico, Beliz and Guatemala with her sea kayak. Marie had driven to the tip of Baja, Mexico and beyond the arctic circle in Alaska. Friend to many--Loved by all. Robinson -- Susan Inez Robinson, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 26, 1999. Susan was born on March 31, 1943 to John and Susan Adkins Hudson in Sumter, South Carolina. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother, and considered herself a professional grandmother. She is survived by her husband, William; sons, Edward and his wife, Kathleen of St. Louis, Steven and his wife, Wendy of South Carolina; daughters, Catherine and her husband, Fred Russell Jr. of Alabama, Donna Lutes and her husband, Sam of Rio Rancho; four sisters; six brothers; and 12 grandchildren, Angela Mickile, Suzannah, Alexandria, Alexander, Spencer, Stefanie, Emily, Fred III, Linda, Jenifer, and Benjamin. Umberson -- J. Kenneth Umberson died November 5, 1999 at Valle Norte Caring Center, Albuquerque. Mr. Umberson was born August 14, 1906 in China Springs, McLennen Co., Texas to J. Frank Umberson and Mattie B. Smith Umberson. He became one of the first registered gemologists in the United States, and operated retail jewelry stores in Truth or Consequences, NM and Midland, TX. He lived in Albuquerque for many years and was a wholesale dealer in turquoise and other Indian jewelry. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1979, he retired from the wholesale dealership and moved to San Angelo, Texas. He returned to Albuquerque in February, 1996. Mr. Umberson was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Clara Furgeson; his second wife, Betty Johnson; three brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by a step-son, Otis Johnson; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 4, 199 at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at a later date when his ashes are interred at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, San Angelo, Texas.
