Bunt -- Mrs. Bennie Jane Bunt, a resident of New Mexico for over 60 years passed away Tuesday morning, June 8, 1999, peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clarence Bunt in 1990. Bennie was the last surviving child in her family. She was born in Camp County, Texas October 19, 1912. She is survived by her son, Ron Bunt and his wife, Kathy of Cuba, NM and a warm circle of loving family and friends. Bennie was a quiet, gentle woman whose loving heart touched many lives. She will be greatly missed by those she left behind. Services were held Friday, 2:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd, NE with Pastor Eugene Ray officiating. Chouinard -- Richard Raymond Chouinard, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at the age of 38 early in the week of June 6, 1999. Richard had a heart that was simply too big to survive the pain of life in today's world. That world is a much emptier place because of his absence. Richard took pride and pleasure in the simple aspects of this life, but those things eventually failed to sustain him. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Lavonne"Chris"; his beloved son, Brett; daughter, A.J.; and step-daughter, April. He is also survived by his father, Herve Chouinard and wife, Gwen; and siblings, Mark Chouinard, Victoria Chouinard, Jacqueline Murphy, David Chouinard, Patrice Wendlick, and Lisa Chouinard. Other survivors are his grandmother, Guadalupe Vaughn; his mother, Connie Chouinard; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws; and treasured friends. Richard's mother, Margaret"Betty" Chouinard, predeceased him. Richard held an Associate Degree of Science in Judicial Studies. He was also a master coffee baresta, an energetic and devoted Cub Scout leader, and an avid NASCAR racing fan. He brightened all of the lives he touched with his kind, gentle soul and quick wit. He always thought of others and was ready and willing to lend a hand when needed. A memorial service will be held at Quigley Park, located at the 2900 block of San Pedro NE, on Monday, June 14, at 5:30 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at his mother's residence at 2929 Espanola NE. Casual dress is requested (Richard hated suits). All involved express their eternal gratitude for the efforts of the dedicated humans and canines who showed uncommon valor while searching for Richard. In lieu of flowers, donations for Richard's immediate family and/or for Los Alamos Search and Rescue can be sent to Chouinard & Davis, LLC, 2701 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, to be held in trust.

Compton -- Joyce Rosemary Compton, born in London, England, January 17, 1931, died June 10, 1999, after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. She leaves a husband of 45 years, James of Albuquerque; three daughters, Julia of Maputo, Mozambique, Jenny of Encinitas, CA, and Hilary of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Susannah, Anastasia, and James; a sister, Audrey; a nephew, Miles; and a niece, Margaret of England. Thanks to all at Lovelace Medical Center, Albuquerque, where she had the best and kindest care imaginable through the whole course of her illness. Custer -- Opal Fay Custer, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, June 10, 1999. She is survived by her son, Jerry Custer and wife, Malena of Albuquerque; daughter, Sharon Bentley of Albuquerque; grandsons, Michael Custer of Springfield, IL, David Custer and wife, Rae of St. Louis, MO, Robert Bentley and wife, Jennifer of Albuquerque, Darrin Bentley and wife, Rita of Auburn, IL, Martin Custer and wife, Gloria of California, Wayne Custer and wife, Terri, also of California; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Kelley and Pearl Ahrenkiel, both of Springfield, IL. Opal was preceded in death by her son, Grant D. Custer Jr. in June of 1994; and her husband, Grant D. Custer Sr. in January of this year. Opal was also a member of Mesa View United Methodist Church. Duffy -- Frances Rita Duffy died Friday night, June 11, 1999. She died in her own home in her own bed surrounded by a large extended family who loved her very much. She was 84 years old. Fran was born Frances R. Holler on December 7, 1914, in West New York, New Jersey. She taught Physical Education at Memorial High School there for almost 40 years before moving to Albuquerque in 1980, to be near her children. Fran is survived by her loving husband, William J. Duffy, her brothers, Edward and Richard Holler; her sister, Roseanne Gherken; her children, Lemuel Browne and Jeanette Ross and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Gardner -- Justin T. Gardner, 25, passed away Thursday, June 10, 1999. Justin is survived by his mother, Fern I. Harboldt -- Pauline C. Harboldt, 75, of Albuquerque, died June 10, 1999 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born March 14, 1924 to Edward Lee and Dovie Mae (Morris) Covington. She worked as a legal aid. She is survived by her husband, John Harboldt of New Mexico; step-children, Jaima Harboldt Carton of Kansas, J.W. Harboldt of Rhode Island, Diane Alson of Pennsylvania, and Pam Auber of Virginia; brothers, Wendel Covington of California; sisters, Dorothy Chafin of Muskogee and Wanda Jay of Oklahoma City, OK; and nine grandchildren. Hascup -- Daniel Hascup, 76 a resident of Los Lunas formerly of Ringwood, NJ passed away Tuesday, June 8, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Hascup of Eastborne, UK; six children, Martin Daniel Hascup of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Kenneth J. Hascup of Wanaque, NJ, Theresa Ann Hall of Mt. Arlington, NJ, David W. Hascup and wife, Janet of Clayton, NC, Audrey Christine Glacken and husband, Gerard of Taylors, SC and Lorraine Romero and husband, Michael of Rio Rancho, NM. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hascup was a veteran serving in the US Army during WWII; he was a plumber for 50 years where he was a member of the Plumbers Local #14 in Lodi, NJ. He was also very involved in the Board of Education at the George D. White Elementary School in Hillsdale, NJ. He was also a former manager with the Skyline Lakes Little League Association. The wake will be Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary on the corner of 8th and Stover. Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Robert Templeton officiating also in the chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Martin Hascup, Ken Hascup, Dave Hascup, Jerry Glacken, Michael Romero, Michael Hascup and James Jefferies. Hood -- Owens C. 64, passed away at home June 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hood; two sons, J. David Knight and wife, Susan, Randy A. Hood and wife, Shannon; daughter, Kathryn L. Garcia and husband, Jerry, two sisters; Dolores Harris and husband, Jack, Elanore Hood, of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Sherman Hood, Ronald Hood and wife, Martha of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren, Jerrod Garcia, Justin Hood, Michael Knight, Stephanie Hood, Jesse Knight, and numerous family and friends who will miss him. Owens was a Veteran who serviced in the U.S. Air Force and retired from General Electric. Services will be held at Mt. Jaffe -- Saul Joseph Jaffe, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1994, passed away on June 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Claire Dankner Jaffe; by his daughter, Elizabeth J. Roll and husband, Samuel Roll and their two children, Julia and Eric of Albuquerque; by his son, Allan Jaffe of Syracuse, NY; and his children, Seth and Devorah; by his son, H. Ari Jaffe and wife, Gitie of Chicago, IL; and children, Aaron and Michael; and brother, Hyman Jaffe and wife, Miriam of Concordia, NJ. He was born in 1907 in Passaic, NJ. He attended Harvard College and Law School, as in the Army Corp of Engineers and worked for the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, DC as Associate Solicitor for 35 years. He was a member of Ohr Kodesh Synagogue in Chevy Chase, MD for 47 years and of Congregation B'nai Israel Synagogue in Albuquerque for 5 years. He loved sports, classical music and life of the mind. He was a man of generosity and kindness to all who knew him. Services will be held Monday 1:00 p.m. at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Road, NE with Rabbi Issac H. Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Jenkins -- Velma M. Jenkins, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1944, died Saturday, June 12, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Frank Jenkins and wife, Maxine, Cliff Jenkins and wife, Carol, both of Albuquerque, Richard Shanks and wife, Betty of El Paso, TX; daughters, Helen Fabian, Beverly Jean Kausrud, of Highland, IN, Laverne Long of Albuquerque and Phyllis Plant and husband, Bill of Stanley, NM; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sisters, Leona Treadway of East Alton, IL, Yvonne Wiseman and husband, Bradford of Woodriver, IL, Virginia Layton Dunkin and husband, Doyle of Albuquerque; and brother, Gerald Edelen and wife, Jean of Virginia Beach, VA. Johnston -- Leslie Paul Johnston, a resident of Las Cruces, died on June 11, 1999 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on January 30, 1917 in St. Louis, MO to L.B. and Estelle (Boyster) Johnston. In his early career Paul worked as a jeweler and watchmaker. Later he became a quality control manager, working in weaponry and missiles for Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, Hercules Powder Company in Magna, UT, and White Sands Missile Range. He was also involved in the space program at the NASA White Sands Testing Facility. Some of the projects he worked on included the Manhattan Project, the Sargent and Polaris missiles, the Gemini Project, the Apollo emergency escape system, the cooling system for the astronauts space suits and the heat-resistant tiles for the Space Shuttle. Paul loved a good bargain and frequented estate sales and auctions throughout the area. After his retirement, his love of antiques led him to operate Johnston's Antiques and Johnston's Oldies and Goodies. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Ray Johnston of St. Clair, MO and Dale Johnston of Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by his loving wife, Terry and son, Brion and wife, Lisa of Artesia, NM. No funeral services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Lung Association in Paul's memory.

Mather -- Thomas Paul Mather, born May 28, 1957, passed away on his 42nd birthday, Friday, May 28, 1999. Tom was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, son of John W. and Nola E. Mather. He is survived by his life partner, Juan Sanchez of Albuquerque; his father, John Mather of Burnet, TX; his brother, Robert Mather of Albuquerque; and his sister, Susie Barlow of Canada. Tom was a son, brother, an uncle, and friend to all. He always touched those who knew him either in passing or as soon-to-be friends, never putting himself ahead of others. Tom was always by everyone's side during their times of need, lending a hand or giving them his last penny if he thought it would help. Tom was a truly exceptional individual the world will likely never be blessed with again. Tom would like us to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. Tom, were thankful that you were, and always will be apart of our lives. You will be missed by all, and we love you dearly. Mcfall -- Glen F. McFall, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Georgann R. McFall of Albuquerque; sons, George R. McFall and wife, Carol of Albuquerque, Jeffrey G. McFall and wife, Paula Maynes of Santa Fe; daughter, Jane Ann Davenport and husband, John of Bernalillo, NM; four grandchildren, Jenifer Metz and husband, Brett of Portland, OR, Zoe McFall of Albuquerque, Hugh McFall, and Guy Patrick McFall, both of Santa Fe. He was an active member of Hoffmantown Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. McFall was a decorated veteran of the US Army Air Corps. He served with the 455th Bomb Group as a Radio Operator/Gunner during WWII. Mr. McFall retired from Sandia Labs after 37 years. The family would like to thank the staff of Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice for their loving care of Glen and their thoughtfulness to his family. Newton -- Mark A. Newton made his transition on June 10, 1999. He was born in Fort Worth, TX, June 20, 1927. He is survived by his wife, Marianne; dog, Boris; and step-son, David Kern. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific. His life's occupation was forestry and he loved the trees, animals, and being outdoors with nature. Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Those wishing to remember Mark may do so by a contribution to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, UT 84741. Pace -- Marilyn J. (Phillips) Pace, 65, a resident of Albuquerque died Friday June 11, 1999. She is survived by her mother, Edra Phillips of Raton; sister, Sandra Chavez and husband P.J. of Arizona; brother, Ray Eugene Phillips and wife, Glenna of Mississippi; special friends Vi Jeys of Albuquerque, Dan Penney and wife, Joyce and Kim Riffle and husband, John and family, all of Alamogordo; brother-in-law, Lloyd Nauta of Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Pace; sister, Betty Nauta; and her father, Ralph Phillips. Marilyn was a telephone operator for AT&T and US West for 44 years. She was a great lover of animals, especially cats. Marilyn was a member of New Covenant Church of Albuquerque. Padilla -- Augustine Ramon Padilla, 42, a resident of Albuquerque passed away June 11, 1999. Perea -- Don Perea, 93 years of age, was called home to rest in God on Sunday, June 13, 1999. Don was born in Valencia on July 3, 9105 into the large Ferminio Perea family. Don Perea was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Aragon Perea; and by two daughters, Lillie Perea Jacquez and Rosa Perea; and a dear son-in-law, Maurice Royal. Survivors include one sister, Victoria Chavez of Oakland, CA. Don's surviving children are, Joe and Louisa Perea, Dan and Nellie and Clarence Perea of Albuquerque, Prudy Perea Mondragon and Ramon, Bea Perea Aragon and Tony, and Frances Roybal of Albuquerque, and Palmira Perea Hay and Steve of Lubbock, TX. He is survived by 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. One additional survivor is Joaquin Lopez, the primary care taker of Mr. Perea for more than two years. We thank God that we were blessed to have our Daddy for almost 94 years. Daddy will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A Rosary for Mr. Perea will be be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 14, 1999 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Fr. Roger Bourgeois, Celebrant. Rendon -- Rev. Horacio Rendon, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 1999. He was born and reared in Dixon, NM. Rev. Rendon was a very caring and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Arabella Jones and husband, Johnnie; son, Jimmy Atencio; grandchildren, Manuel Ortiz, Miguel Ortiz, Luis Ortiz, Jimmy Atencio Jr. and Tanya Atencio; four great-grandchildren; a special honorary grandson, Aaron Bachicha; brother, Gilbert Rendon; and sisters, Viola Rendon of California and Carlota Romero of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Delores Rendon. Rev. Rendon served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was stationed in Northern France, Central Europe and Ardennes Rhineland. Rev. Rendon received numerous medals during his Army career, including four Bronze Stars and a WWII Victory Medal. After he was discharged from the Army in 1945, he moved to Albuquerque and began working at Presbyterian Hospital, where he spent the next 27 years working in various departments in the hospital. His last position was in Supply Services. After Rev. Rendon's retirement, he enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital where he made many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. Prayer services will be held Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Anthony Chavez officiating. Rice -- Harwood T. Rice, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Friday, June 11, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Genevieve Rice of Albuquerque; sons, Truman Rice and wife, Joanne, and Harwood Rice and wife, Patricia, all of San Angelo, TX; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his son, Barron Rice. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Rice began adult life in the potash industry in Carlsbad. He moved to Albuquerque in 1950 and began a construction and land development business. Mr. Rice owned and operated Riviera de Sandia Mobile Home Park in Cedar Crest for 34 years. His work, family and friends were his life. He loved life and always maintained a positive outlook on life. Rios -- Mr. Gerardo Rios, 44, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 8, 1999. Mr. Rios is survived by his beloved wife of 11 years, Maria de Jesus Rios; three sons, Gerardo Rios Jr., Vicente Rios and Rodrigo Rios; his parents, Vicente and Herminia Rios; four sisters, Juana, Chela, Chefa and Laura; six brothers, Raymundo, Pedro, Angel, Dionicio, Frumencio and Juan; many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends. Mr. Rios was a member of the catholic church.
