Austin -- Don G. Austin, age 83, passed away on April 24, 1999. He was born to Lloyd and Essie Austin in Scottsville, KY on January 31, 1916. He is survived by his wife, Betty of the family home; children, Diantha Vallentine and Keith Austin of Albuquerque; sister, Joyce Faulknor of Alexander, VA; grandchildren, Amber, Casie and Ashelie Austin and Courtney and Kayla Vallentine; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Austin. Before retirement, he was employed as a tool and die maker. He lived in the Rio Rancho area for 14 years and the Albuquerque area for 38 years. He served in the US Army during WWII. Visitation was held on Monday, April 26, 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Si Budagher officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Ball -- Douglas R. Ball, 47, a native of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 after a long illness. A devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, he was preceded in death by his parents, Myrl W. and Gladys F. Ball; and his oldest sister, Anne Marie Ball. He is survived by his sister, Alice C. Rakes of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; three brothers, Roy E. Ball and Nelson T. Ball of Albuquerque, and Kenneth M. Ball of Conifer, Colorado; three nephews; two nieces and many wonderful friends and relatives of all ages. Doug was a graduate of Valley High School and the University of Albuquerque, a Sunday school teacher and a choir member at Harwood United Methodist Church. Arrangements are pending. Bowen -- Jimmy Bowen, 80, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Weeta A. Bowen of Albuquerque; sons, Jimmy Leroy Bowen and wife, Shirley of Roswell, NM, Douglas Bowen and wife, Mary and Dan Bowen and wife, Carri, all of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Vangundy of Mesa, AZ; and many other family and friends. He was a member of the International Union of Operation Engineers Local #953 and served his country during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge. Bowman -- Billy Paul Bowman, age 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, loving husband and father, passed away April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet Bowman; three sons, Mark and wife, Jessica Bowman of Los Lunas, William and wife, Kim Bowman of Albuquerque, Rodney and wife, Cindy Rutledge of El Paso; daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Lou Jaramillo of Dallas; two brothers, Wilson Bowman and wife, Verna of Scottsdale, AZ, George Bowman and wife, Loree of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Faye Goracke Bowman of Casa Verde, AZ, Jenny Meller of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Eleanor, Brandi Bowman of Albuquerque, Lucas Bowman of Albuquerque, Ryan and Meghan Rutledge and Corina Jaramillo of Dallas, TX; preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and George Bowman of Arizona. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him for his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family. Our hearts are broken for losing such a wonderful man, but we were blessed to have had him in our lives. Boydston -- Margaret V. Boydston, 73, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1975, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 1999. Margaret and her family came to New Mexico from Pine Mount, New York. Margaret was born September 18, 1925 the daughter of Arthur and Helen McNiece Jacobs in Queens, New York. She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Boydston and one brother, Arthur Jacobs. Margaret is survived by her husband, William"Bill" Boydston of Rio Rancho; four children, Bill Boydston, Jr. of Highland Mills, NY, Ginny Boydston of Jackson, MS, Richard Boydston of Verman, NJ, and Patricia Dietrich of Ft. Gann -- John W. Gann, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth F. Gann; sons, Jay Gann and Robert Gann; and other family including Gracen Johnson, Carole Gann, Kimberly Garber, Melinda Reeder, David Gann, Sybil Evans; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Gann served his country during WWII in the US 8th Air Force. He was a former resident of Dallas, TX, where he was a member of Urban Park Baptist Church and worked 45 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mr. Gann was also a member of the original Dallas Newsboys Club. He loved to attend Hoffmantown Church on television. Geoffrion -- The family of Henry E. Geoffrion would like to thank their family and friends for their loving support during their recent bereavement. A heartfelt thank you to Robert Montoya and the Albuquerque Fire Department Honor Guard for Henry and his grandson's last ride on his last alarm with the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. A most sincere thank you to Aunt Marie Ulibarri and family for allowing Henry's final resting place with his Grandma Pina who taught him Christ's presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Griffin -- Bernett E. Griffin, (Ed), 60, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 24, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Geraldine Griffin; two sons, Tony Griffin, Tracy Griffin and wife, Sandra; a daughter, Trulee Griffin and fiancee, Randy Lucero; four grandchildren, Sam, Chad, Adrian, and Nicole. Also, surviving are parents, Bernett Griffin and Ava Bassham; sisters, Ruby Nichols and husband, Marvin, Cauletta Stumbaugh; brother, Perry Bassham and wife, Kelly; many nieces, nephews and friends. Ed was a retired Lieutenant form the Albuqueque Police Department where he served 27 devoted years. He was also a past president and member of the Fraternal Order of Police for the past 39 years. He served in the US Army and was a graduate of Northwestern University. Services will be held at Hillside Community Church, 435 Jefferson SE on Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. with Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A gathering to honor Ed Griffin will be held at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge following the Interment. Hamm -- Jeraldine E."Jeri" Hamm, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Friday, April 23, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Shaun Newton and wife, Nina of Albuquerque and Steve Newton and wife, Linda of Des Moines, IA; granddaughters, Natalie Newton, Dawn Barreras and husband, J.B., all of Albuquerque, Niko Newton of Santa Fe, and Lisa Newton and Kathy Newton of Des Moines, IA; grandsons, Mike Newton and Bob Newton of Des Moines, IA; brother, Delbert Madsen of Merrit Island, FL; and sisters, Jean Zaccagnino of Flemington, NJ and Phyllis Berling of Middleton, NJ. Henningsen -- Montelle Bearden Henningsen, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, April 22, 1999. She is survived by her sons, Thomas J. Henningsen and wife, Kate of Albuquerque and Myron H. Henningsen II and wife, Sandy of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, T. Michael Henningsen, Timothy Henningsen and wife, Susan, Kristin Henningsen, all of Albuqueruque, Mark Henningsen and wife, Deana of Hot Springs, AR, Todd Henningsen and Chris Henningsen, both of Scottsdale, AZ; and great-grandson, Connor Henningsen of Hot Springs, AR. Mrs. Henningsen was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Henningsen. The youngest of four sisters, Montelle danced professionally with her sisters in Washington, DC from 1930-1940. The Yates Sisters, as they were known professionally, performed in the White House for President Roosevelt in 1934. After moving to New Mexico, Montelle and her husband, Myron owned and operated Resort Publishing Co. in Albuquerque and the Sleepy Hollow Ski Lodge in Red River. During that time, Montelle was active in choreographing town plays and other special events in Red River. She later wrote a regular entertainment column in the popular Albuquerque magazine, Albuquerque This Month. Mrs. Henningsen was a member of Daughters of the Nile. Maurer -- Doug Lou Maurer passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999 at a local hospital in Albuquerque. She was born January 10, 1930 in Grand Junction, Colorado, just three months after her father, for whom she was named, died as a result of an accident. She married Edward E. Maurer September 18, 1949 and they would have been celebrated their 50th anniversary this years. Doug Lou and Ed lived in Grand Junction, CO, Grants, NM, and Tooele, UT prior to retirement in Rio Rancho. The Maurers are members of St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Grand Junction. Doug Lou loved playing golf with the Rio Rancho Country Club"Niners" and as an avid bridge player, was a member of three bridge groups. In addition to her beloved husband, Ed, Mr. Maurer is survived by their cherished daughter, Laura Freeman and her husband, Greg and her grandson, Paul Ryan Freeman, all of Littleton, CO. Also surviving is her darling westie named Dollie. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho, with Fr. Walter F. Smith, officiating. The church is located on Golf Course Rd. at 19th Street in Rio Rancho. Mccampbell -- Carroll Beecher McCampbell, beloved husband and father, grandfather and friend, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 1999 after a long, full and loving life. Born on the first day of June 1924 in Julesburg, Colorado, he received his engineering degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder. On his first engineering job he surveyed the Sinai Peninsula and discovered huge oil fields there. He joined Sandia National Laboratories in 1949, became a Department Manager and received numerous patents. He distiguished himself in many projects, including lunar module separation systems for the Apollo Moon flights, and nuclear detonation technologies. He retired from Sandia Labs after 33 years. He then became a founder and the President of SCB Technologies where he technically directed the development of a semi-conductor explosive detonator that is targeted for use in mining, air bag and pyrotechnic industries. He retired from SCB in 1995. Carroll was an avid outdoorsman who fished the streams from New Mexico to Montana. He greatly enjoyed his second home on the Yaak River in Montana, and the fabulous friends he made on the tennis courts in recent years. He and his first wife, Martha Ernestine Frehse raised two children, Joan Ellen and Jeffrey Carroll in the East Mountains of Albuquerque. He married New Mexico artist, Doris Steider in May 1972, with whom he spent 27 loving years, and with whom he traveled the globe and pursued their spiritual journey. Carroll was known by his friends as"Mac" and had a cutting intellect, delightful wit, and beautiful piercing blue eyes. He will be loved and missed by his wife, Doris Steider McCampbell; son, Jeff with his wife, Patty; daughter, Joan with her husband, David; step-son, Robert with his wife, Brenda; step-daughter, Kristen with her husband, Gerald; step-son, Timothy with his wife, Amy; 15 grandchildren, Connor, Mallory, Ryan, Justin, Amy, Jenny, Scott, Tami, Kristy, Shanna, Jay, Lindsey, Cameron, Haley and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Richie and Quinlan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Presbyterian HOSPICE Foundation, who have been so wonderful in our time of need. Neff -- Daniel E. Neff Jr., 74, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosemary; son, John Callan and wife, Connie of Corrales; daughter, Judy Callan of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Bart and Danelle Callan of Corrales; sister, Mary Ann Stubbs and husband, Robert of Tucson, AZ; niece, Michelle Neubeck and children, Robbie and Rachael of Tucson, AZ; and grandniece, Tess Hogan. Pettit -- Mary Belle Locust Pettit, age 79, of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, April 24, 1999. She was born in Braggs, OK and spent over 40 years in Arizona and New Mexico as an educator at various reservations. She was a member of St. Francis Cathedral Parish. She is survived by her loving children, Mary Susan Gano and husband, Leroy of Texas, Carlisle Pettit of Alaska, David Pettit and wife, Beverly of Alaska, and Phyllis Nassi and husband, Walter of Salt Lake City, UT; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Luanna Jehne of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter-in-law, Ton Pettit of Phoenix, AZ; and many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 27, 10:00 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Francis Cathedral. Entombment will follow at Rosario Cemetery. Smith -- Alma Hanson Smith, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 49 years, passed away Friday, April 23, 1999. Alma was born on April 11, 1914, in Perry's Landing, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel M. Smith, Jr., her brother, Douglas, Weems Hanson, Jr., and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hoge and her husband, Jim Hoge of Albuquerque; her sons, Daniel M. Smith III and his wife, Sharon Smith of Santa Fe, Gaylord E. Smith of Prunedale, CA, and Paul H. Smith of Chatsworth, CA. Also surviving is her sister, LaMay Adamson of Michigan; five grandchildren, Deborah D. Pierson of Albuquerque, Cheryl L. Ferren and husband, Tracy Ferren of Birmingham, Alabama, Jon A. Pierson of Houston, TX, James E. Smith and wife, Mary Smith of Lamy, NM and Patrick Smith of Chatsworth, CA; and three great-grandsons, Ty Smith, Benjamin Ferren, and Sam Ferren; together with many other relatives and friends, and her loving cat,"Honey," who brought her much joy. Alma attended the University of Texas and worked for the Freeport Sulphur Company in Freeport, Texas, where she met her husband, Dan. They were married in New Orleans on April 10, 1938 and moved to Albuquerque in May, 1950. Alma worked many years as the office manager/secretary of her husband's CPA firm. With her husband, Alma started and ran her own travel agency, Atlas Travel Service, which she sold upon retirement in 1980. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The burden of advancing Alzheimers Disease in her last years never diminished her smile, laughter, and happiness. The family is especially grateful to the staff of St. Francis Place, a very special residence, for their loving care in this last period of her life. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE, with Dr. Paul Debenport officiating, following private burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association, New Mexico Chapter, 1330 San Pedro NE, #205, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
