Aragon -- Erlinda M. Aragon, age 70, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, April 16, 1999. She is survived by her three sons, Dennis Aragon, Andrew Aragon, Anthony Aragon and wife, Loretta, all of Albuquerque; one granddaughter, Michelle Aragon; one sister, Emma Alderete of Albuquerque; one brother, Joe Mirabal and wife, Lena of Albuquerque. She is also survived by two aunts; six nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Aurelia Mirabal. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 18, 1999, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. A Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Arreguin -- Nadine G. Zamora Arreguin, 31, beloved mother, daughter, sister and Goddaughter, was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 14, 1999 in Scottsdale, AZ. She was a resident of Los Lunas. Nadine was a brave and loving daughter of Arthur and Lorraine Zamora. She is survived by her only son, Alec Arreguin who she loved so much; her loving parents of Los Lunas; three brothers, Arthur Zamora and wife, Norma of Albuquerque, Jerry Zamora and wife, Darlene of Los Lunas, Thomas Zamora and wife, Bernadette of Albuquerque; one sister, Patricia Sanchez and husband, Ernest of Rio Rancho; and her Godmother, Rebecca Candelaria. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be Sunday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until the time of Rosary, which will be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary, on the corner of 8th and Iron. Avalos -- Henry Avalos, 57, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 1999 in Socorro. He was born September 17, 1941 to Vicente and Dominica Rivera Avalos in Magdalena, NM. He was preceded in death by his mother; and a grandchild, Natasha Avalos. He is survived by his wife, Mary Valenzuela Avalos of their home in Socorro; his father, Vicente Avalos of Socorro; children, Gilbert Avalos, David Avalos, Paul Avalos, Karen Avalos and Michelle Avalos, all of Socorro, and Bridgette Marble of Kingman, AZ; brothers, Pete and Jose Avalos, both of Albuquerque; sisters, Lucy Mendoza of Los Lunas and Rosemary Anzures of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Steadman-Hall Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited Sunday, April 18, 7:00 p.m., at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Brodie -- Christiana"Chrissy" Stage Brodie, 88, died peacefully on April 14, 1999 after a brief illness. Born in Gateshead, England, she lived in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Florida, California, and Idaho before moving to Albuquerque in 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband, Omer in 1984; and her brother, Colling in 1996. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Liddell of Albuquerque and Chris Burk and her husband, Bill, also of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren, John Farrar III of Encino, CA, Breanne and Jay Liddell and Elizabeth and Caroline Burk, all of Albuquerque. She was an accomplished musician, teaching accordion and leading her own accordion band in Santa Monica, California in the 1930s. A longtime Presbyterian, she and her husband founded the Mariners Group in 1941 and were their first Skippers at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica, CA. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, where she was a strong supporter of the Music Program. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria NE on Sunday, April 18, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brodie Music Endowment, Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Cooper -- Gladys May Linneman Cooper, 88, a resident of El Vado Ranch, New Mexico, passed away on Friday, April 16, 1999 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Leigh, Nebraska on May 11, 1910, to August Frederick Wilhelm Linneman and Nora Lucas De Sanno. Mrs. Cooper married Carl R. Cooper on May 23, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl R. Cooper on October 14, 1991; grandson, Jeremy Cooper; brothers and sisters, Nina, Richard, Lila, Oran, Everett, Clinton, Lotus Fredersdorf Schlapper. She is survived by her children, Carla D. McCray of Truth or Consequences, JoAnn C. Richards of Rio Rancho, Karen S. Garber of Grand Junction, CO, and David A. Cooper of El Vado Ranch, NM. She is also survived by one sister, Doris Daly of Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 19, 1999, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Block-Salazar Mortuary Chapel. Custer -- George E. Custer, a highly respected member of the Albuquerque community, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 12, 1999, at the age of 91. George was born in Nebraska City, NE on December 30, 1907, the son of Ellis and Marie Pfann Custer. After attending high school in Nebraska City, he moved to Texas, where he was the assistant manager of Winburn Airfield, now Love Field and studied law at Jefferson University. In 1933, he moved to New Mexico, ultimately taking a position with the New Mexico State Employment Security Commission (NMESC) in Las Vegas. George was instrumental in relocating Basque sheep herders from Spain to New Mexico for the Northern New Mexico sheep industry, in the development of the Tres Ritas ski area (now Sipapu), and in the building of the original boat house at Storrie Lake. In 1939, he married his childhood sweetheart from Nebraska City, Marjorie Musser Duff, in Taos. In early 1940, he accepted a position with the NMESC in Albuquerque and became Assistant State Director, a position he held until his retirement. During WWII, he served in the US Army, stationed at Ft. George E. Mead in Maryland. George was an amateur boxer in his youth and an avid golfer, sports fan and outdoors man throughout his life. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He gave of himself by being involved with and by providing leadership to many organizations. He was a member of St. Mark's-on-the-Mesa Episcopal Church and St. Mary's Episcopal Church (Nebraska City). Other organizations he was affiliated with were the Masonic Lodge Temple #6, Scottish Rite and Ballut Abyad Temple of Albuquerque, BPOE, Kiwanis, founder and president of the Albuquerque Exchange Club, Toastmasters, Knife and Fork Club, 20-30 Club, Lobo Club, Western Senior Amateur Golf Association (President and Director), West Texas/New Mexico Golf Association, New Mexico Senior Golf Association, American Legion in Jemez Springs, Angel Fire Sportsman and Conservation Club, Albuquerque Country Club (Director), Four Hills Country Club (an original founder and board member), Angel Fire Country Club and Albuquerque Petroleum Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marjorie; his sons, Robert and Phillip, their wives, Mollie and Krys; three adoring granddaughters, Sasha, Erin and Nicole; his sister, Dorothy Chaney of Falls City, NE; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dedicated caregivers, Pramod Paudel and Tsering Lhamo. A private funeral service was held shortly following his death. An open house to celebrate his life for friends and family will be held on April 18, 1999, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the home of Robert Custer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given in his name to either the Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Keene -- Mrs. W.B. Keene (Tiny) died April 10, 1999 in El Paso, Texas, where she had lived for the past six months. Before moving to El Paso, she had been a resident of Albuquerque for the past 30 years. She leaves behind a family of friends in Albuquerque who feel a great loss in her passing. We are the richer for having her in our lives. Tiny loved life and lived it to the fullest and she leaves us with wonderful memories. Tiny requested a private service and her wishes have been honored.

Lax -- R. Howard Lax, of Cuba, Missouri (formerly of Jackson, TN), passed away on April 13, 1999 at the age of 71 after a long illness. He was the nephew of the late Hal lax and nephew of Emma P. Hill. Mr. Lax was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, TN and served in WWII in Germany. He graduated from high school in Jackson, TN. He is survived by two children; aunt, Emma; cousins; and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 17, 1999 after 9:00 a.m. at the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, MO. Mikkelson -- DeAnne S. Mikkelson, 61, a prior resident of Los Alamos for 42 years, and a resident of Albuquerque since 1993, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Chuck Mikkelson of Albuquerque; son, Brian Patrick Mikkelson and wife, Lisa of Chesapeake, VA; daughters, Carrie Marie Mikkelson and Lisa Ann Pennycuff and husband, Floyd, all of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren; and brothers, Michael Sands Kelly and wife, Lynn of Santa Fe and John Thomas Kelly and wife, Karen of Albuquerque. Mrs. Mikkelson was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community and a former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. She was well known for her Ojos de Dios (God's eyes) which were sold throughout New Mexico. She was a dedicated wife and mother. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, with Father Antonio Mondragon, Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Moore -- Ivan M. Moore, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died April 15, 1999 of heart failure. Ivan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Borghild (Borgie) Moore; his daughter, Barbara Hand and husband, Ken of Phoenix, AZ; sons, William Moore and wife, Bobbie of Dallas, TX, Michael Moore and wife, Ann of Albuquerque, Douglas Moore and wife, Terrie of Albuquerque, and David Moore of Artesia, CA. Ivan is also survived by brother, Forest Moore of St. Paul, MN; and sisters, Faye Lindaman and husband, Ivan of Applington, IA, Byrdena Schuneman and husband, Ben of Bradford, IL, Fran Cummings and husband, Bob of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Kari and Kristin E. Moore, Katie and Kristin A. Moore, Tim and Peter Moore, and Kimberly Hand. Ivan was born in 1913 in Wadena, Iowa and moved to Albuquerque in 1946 while in the Army. In 1948, he joined Sandia Corporation where he worked until his retirement in 1978. Ivan was active in scouting and loved to garden, raising award winning dahlias. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him and will be sorely missed. Orona -- George Orona Sr., 75, was called home to the Lord on April 15, 1999. Beloved husband of Tocha Gutierrez de Orona; father of sons, Joe Luke and wife, Connie, George Jr. and wife, Sharon; daughter, Carmen Valencia; grandfather of grandsons, Brian Orona and wife, Georgianna, Jody Valencia, Jaime Orona, Billy Orona; and step-grandson, Daniel Vivian; granddaughters, Lisa Lesku and husband, Frank, Jolene Valencia; and great-granddaughters, Olivia Orona and Ashley Lesku; brother to Jack Orona and sisters, Candelaria Gutierrez, Mayme Pineda, and Sylvia Flores. Rice -- Onalee M. Rice died on April 15, 1999 in Albuquerque. She was born in Muncie, IN and moved to Albuquerque in 1954 from Dunkirk, NY. She was a member of the City Beautification Society, served as Home League Secretary, and was a Soldier in the Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin A. Rice, in August 1996. She is survived by two sons, David A. Rice and Don F. Rice, both of Albuquerque; numerous other family members; and grandchildren, Damon Livings of Dell City, OK, Leah Broadbent, JoAnn Conrady, Joseph Rice, and Susan Rice, all of Albuquerque; and a number of great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, at chapel of Sandia Funeral Care followed by services at 6:30 p.m. with Captains Cliff and Lynn Dickinson of the Salvation Army officiating. Sanchez -- Mrs. Beatrice H. Sanchez, born June 27, 1910, passed away on April 15, 1999, left this earth to be with our Lord. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Severo; and dear son, Raymond. Mrs. Sanchez is survived by three sons, Charlie Sanchez and wife, Crusita, Jim Sanchez and wife, Priscilla, and David Sanchez her daughter-in-law, Cordelia Sanchez; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Sanchez was born in Paral, Mexico and had lived in Albuquerque for 80 years. She was a member of the Catholic Church, Holy Family Senior Center, and loved playing bingo. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her and was devoted to her home and family. She lived a good and traveled life. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon in the Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco SW, from 3:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m. by Deacon Santos Abeyta. Final visitation will be Monday morning in the Church from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Jack. Saunders -- Dr. Randall Scott Saunders, 34, a resident of Albuquerque since 1992, died Monday, April 12, 1999. He is survived by his father, Howard Saunders and step-mother, Jean of Ft. Collins, CO; mother, Marvie Lou Durbin-Voss and step-father, Harvey Voss of Longmont, CO; brother, Steven Saunders and wife, Tammy of Longmont, CO; uncle, Kenneth Saunders and wife, Marion of Cheyenne, WY; aunts, Patricia Durbin-Gonzales and husband, Ted of Albuquerque and Darlene Bodnar and husband, Robert of Northglenn, CO; nephew, Zachary Saunders of Longmont, CO; and several cousins. Dr. Saunders received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Colorado State University in 1987 and his PhD in Chemical Engineering from M.I.T. in 1992. He worked as a Research Scientist for Sandia National Laboratories. Szilvassy -- Dr. Rudolph E. Szilvassy, D.V.M., passed away peacefully in Albuquerque during the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 13, 1999. He was born on June 16, 1916 in Hungary. Dr. Szilvassy left Hungary at the time of the Communist takeover and emigrated to the United States. Trained as a physician in Hungary, Dr. Szilvassy became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in the United States and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture. He operated a private practice-the Alameda Animal Hospital on North Second Street in Albuquerque for many years; he also maintained a private veterinary practice in Truth or Consequences, NM, where he retired. He was a member of the United States Archery Team and former United States Champion. Private interment will take place at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery in Truth or Consequences, NM. Dr. Szilvassy received excellent and compassionate care during the last years of his life at Coddington Residential Care, 3212 Wellesley Court NE, Albuquerque. A memorial gathering in Truth or Consequences will be announced later. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Enrique Vigil of Ranchitos, NM; daughter, Josie Abeyta and husband, Alex of Hayward, CA; sons, William Vigil and wife, Dolores of Albuquerque and Jimmy Vigil and wife, Maxine of San Mateo, CA; daughters, Helen Atencio and husband, John of Dixon, NM, Theresa Martinez and husband, Freddie, Barbara Maestas and husband, David, and Annie Maestas and husband, James, all of Albuquerque; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Emily Maes of Vadito, NM and Virginia Martinez and husband, Pete of Grants; and brothers, Alfredo Maes and wife, Elaizia of Espanola, Rafael Maes and wife, Margaret of Vadito, NM, and Joe Maes of San Mateo, CA. She was preceded in death by her sons, Tony Vigil and Henry Vigil Jr. Mrs. Vigil was a member of the Legion of Mary and St. John Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo. Rosary will be recited Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Legion of Mary reciting. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW, with Fr. Vidal Martinez, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvin Abeyta, Larry Vigil, James Vigil, Jonathan Atencio, Kenneth Martinez, Darren Maestas, Jeremy Maestas, and Joseph Vigil. Wasung -- Stanley M. Wasung, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, and a former resident of Detroit, MI, left the world at peace with God and his loved ones, Wednesday, April 14, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Cook Wasung; two daughters, Mary Ellen Gray of Pembrooke Pines, FL and Julie Ann Bauman and husband, William of Deerborn, MI; and son, Joseph Paul Wasung and wife, Barbara of Greeley, CO; step-daughters, Jeanette Smith and Mary Cook, both of Albuquerque; step-son, Don Cook and wife, Kathy of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Cass Wasung, Victor Wasung and Thaddeus Wasung; and sister, Helen Franke. Mr. Wasung was born in Hamtramck, MI. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the European Theater. Mr. Wasung was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He was also a life member of the International Painters Brotherhood; a member of the AFLCIO, Amvets and BPOE #461. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Father Bob Chabot, Celebrant.
