Apodaca -- Miguel S. Apodaca, Sr. passed away Sunday, September 20, 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Isidra Apodaca; brothers, Victor and Martin Apodaca; and his two sisters. He is survived by the mother of his children, Dolores Herrera. He is also survived by his children, Ernestina S. Mathers and husband, Richard Mathers, Miguel M. Apodaca, Jr and wife, Dolores Apodaca, Maria Eduvijen Apodaca, Victoria M. Apodaca, Armanda B. Apodaca and Esperanza Apodaca. He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin Mathers, Dakota Mathers, Santiago Apodaca, Mariah Apodaca, Joshua Evans. He is also survived by several aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. A Rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. this evening in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary and cremation to follow. Atkisson -- Maxine Atkisson, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, September 19, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kenneth, of the family home; daughters, Kendra Longfellow of Albuquerque and Gayle Salyer and husband, Bob of Ames, IA; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Atkisson loved her volunteer work with Presbyterian Hospital where she logged several thousand hours. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Reception will be held Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. at Montebello, 10500 Academy Rd, NE. Private Interment will take place at a later time. Ferguson -- Columbus Ferguson, 80, of Taos passed away September 19, 1998, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Ferguson was a WWII Veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars at the Battle of the Bulge. He was Taos County Sheriff in the late 40's and a New Mexico State Corporation Commissioner between 1963-1981. He was very active in Democratic Party politics and was inducted into the NM Democratic Party Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Molly Ferguson; children, Robert Ferguson (Mercy) of La Junta, CO, Bonavita Flores (Erlinda) of Albuquerque, Patty Gonzales of Florida, Dennis Quintana and Adam Ferguson, both of Taos. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. Fidel -- Rose A. Fidel, 91, passed away on September 20, 1998. A resident of Santa Fe, NM for the past 73 years, Rose was born on October 10, 1906 in Lebanon, the daughter of Assad K. Ashkar and Marroon G. Salhabl. She was a member of the St. Francis Altar Society. Mrs. Fidel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Fidel in 1959; and two infant daughters. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Abousleman; Colleen Rose Fidel; and Correen Mae Najjar and husband, Albert all of Santa Fe, NM; and her sons, Michel Fidel and wife, Christine of Santa Fe, NM; Victor Fidel and wife, Dolores of Santa Fe, NM; and Edward Fidel and wife, Jeanette of Raton, NM. She also leaves behind her brothers, Emil Ashkar and Kamil Ashkar, both of Lebanon. Other relatives include her sisters-in-law, Nabeha Koury of Pueblo, CO and Jessie Fidel of Santa Fe, NM. Forney -- Jene L. Forney, 82, died Thursday, September 17, 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Jan F. Hosea and husband, Bruce of Albuquerque; and brother, Bill E. Forney and wife, Sue of Tulsa, OK. Mr. Forney was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy R. Forney in 1991. He recently moved to Albuquerque from Tulsa, OK where he lived for 75 years. Mr. Forney was a veteran of WWII as an Army Air Corps Pilot. He volunteered for the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross. Services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 318 Silver Ave, SW with the Very Rev. David F. K. Puckett, Rev. Canon Byron McDougall, and Rev. Canon Rhonda S. McIntire officiating. Interment will take place Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park in Tulsa, OK. Gallegos -- Tabitha Louisa Gallegos, age 27, and her baby daughter, Samantha Destiny Gallegos, died Saturday in Albuquerque. Tabitha is survived by her father, Thomas J. Kenton; mother, Clementine Kenton; husband, Lorenzo Gallegos; son, Lorenzo Gallegos Jr.; daughter, Amanda Gallegos; brothers, Tomas Kenton Jr., Eli Kenton, Erik Kenton, and Jacob Kenton; grandparents, John and Louisa Gallegos; Jesus Lopez, who was like a brother to her; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Fairview Memorial Park. Griego -- Ruben Griego, 55, a lifelong resident of Tijeras, NM died on Sunday, September 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Betty Griego of the family home; children, Sandra Lovato and husband, Anthony of Albuquerque, John Griego and wife, Sherry, Elaine Abeyta and Andrew Driggers, and Manuel Griego and wife, Yvonne all of Tijeras, NM; grandchildren, Angelo Lovato, Tommy Hohmann, Tara Lovato, Grady Griego, Christopher Griego, Vincent Griego, Alex Griego, Manuel Jacob Griego and Samantha Griego; and sisters, Angelina Gonzales, Margaret Francia and Corina Chavez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Merced Griego. Mr. Griego loved the outdoors expecially hunting and fishing. He was a member of Holy Child Catholic Church. He was a fun loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all especially for his sense of humor. Houston -- Bonnie Erin Houston, 93, passed away Sunday, September 21, 1998, in Socorro, NM. She was born June 24, 1905, to Pete and Alta Brasuel Barnes in Shawnee, OK. Bonnie and her family came to New Mexico in 1911 where they farmed and ranched in Northeast, NM. She and her husband, Ben Lloyd Houston moved to Tucumcari, NM 1945. After the death of her husband, she moved to Socorro in 1955. She was a longtime member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of the Lydia Circle. She was a volunteer at Socorro General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Lloyd Houston, brothers, Joe Barnes, Halton Barnes and Bill Barnes; sister, Frances Schoening and granddaughter, Deanna Houston. She is survived by her sons, Vernon and wife, Betty of Socorro and James Allan and wife, Cynthia of Charlotte, NC; brother, Donald Barnes of Ft. Sumner, NM; sisters, Nellie Hennigan of Palm Desert, CA, Lois Nicholson of Clayton, NM and Judy Rhoads of Logan, NM; grandchildren, Mace Houston, Spencer Houston, Debrah Houston and Darrell Houston; great-grandchildren; Kendall Houston and Allison Houston; and other relatives and friends. Hurley -- Ann Burns Hurley, born 1909, a resident of Albuquerque for six years, died Saturday, September 19, 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Ellen Fisher and husband, Joe of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Cathy Brandt of Boston, MA, Gregory Fisher of Sandia Arabia, Gary Fisher and wife, Holli of Tampa, FL, Andrew Fisher and wife, Christa of Farmington, Colleen Chan and husband, Ty of Newton, IA, and John Fisher and wife, Dierdre of Mountain Home ID; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Walter Burns of LaMarque, TX, Edward Burns and wife, Dorothy of Galveston, TX and Thomas Burns of Houston, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Murawski -- Sister Mary Dematria Murawski, 92, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 1998 in the Felician Sisters Convent. Sister Demetria served the Lord and His people as a woman religious for 74 years. Of these, she spent 60 years teaching elementary school students. For 12 of those years she was both principal and teacher. Sister Demetria is fondly remembered by those she worked with as dedicated, generous with her time, and as possessing a great sense of humor. Sister Demetria was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Josephine Budner Murawski, a brother who died as a small child, and her sister, Sister Mary Alexia Murawski, also a Felician Sister. A Vesper Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, September 22, 1998 in the Felician Sisters Chapel in Rio Rancho. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel on Wednesday, September 23, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. with The Rev. Paul Schneider, OFM, as the Celebrant. Murphree -- Evie E. Murphree, 101, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, and formerly of Houston, TX, died on Sunday, September 20, 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Helen M. Long of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Murphree of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Nancy Long, Marisa and Max Sanchez, and Alexis and Jessica Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Murphree, Sr.; sons, Harold E. Murphree, Jr., and Edward E. Murphree; and son-in-law, Worth Long. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Albuquerque Manor for their thoughtfulness and tender care given to Evie during this last year of her life. Pittard -- Cole Robert Pittard and Carter Bray Pittard, infant twin sons of Q. Lee and Susan Pittard, died shortly after birth on Wednesday, September 16, 1998. Sanchez -- Gilbert (Gibby) Sanchez, 65, a resident of Los Chavez, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 1998. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Gibby was born on March 10, 1993, to Pete and Julia Sanchez in Madrid, NM. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Savela in 1988. Gibby is survived by his wife of 27 years, Barbara, of Rio Communities; his three sons, Daniel and his wife, Connie of Vacaville, CA, Pete and John of Rodeo, CA; his five daughters, Maria Wafe and Justin Horton, of Peralta, NM; Julia Sanchez and Jeff de Vita, formerly of Martinez, CA, and now of Veguita, NM, Sheryl Chrisman and her husband, Kenneth, of Rodeo, CA, Karen Savela of Rodeo, CA, and Shirley Chu and her husband, Joe, of Tracy, CA. Also, surviving are twelve grandchildren; one brother, Marion and his wife, Esther, of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Lena Reyes and her husband, Bob, and Irene Kolek and her husband, Jim, all of Albuquerque, NM. Gibby is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. Velasquez -- Lawrence Velasquez, 64, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died September 21, 1998. He is survived by his son, Rick Velasquez of Rio Rancho; daughters, Kay Velasquez and Myra Soule, both of Albuquerque; son, Orlando Velasquez and wife, Vanessa of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Devynn Velasquez and Jason Velasquez, both of Rio Rancho, and Ian Velasquez of Albuquerque; girlfriend, Paula Dureault of Albuquerque; brother, Arturo Velasquez, David Velasquez, both of New Mexico and Ceyatano Velasquez of Colorado; sister, Vitalia Salas, of Tito, NM. Mr. Velasquez served with the US Post Office here in Albuquerque for over 30 years. His favorite activity was country westing dancing. Whenry -- Julia A. Whenry, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989, passed away Saturday, September 19, 1998. She is survived by her brother, Rev. Merle Whenry of Enid, OK and Dr. Jack Whenry of Edmond, OK; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Julia was born on October 2, 1922, in Stillwater, OK while her father, Roy C. Whenry, was attending Oklahoma A&M University. She graduated from highschool in El Reno, OK and attended college at Cameron College in Lawton, OK before joining the US Navy during WWII. While in the Navy, Julia attended Hunter College, New York Physical Therapy School. After graduating, she was assigned to the Naval Hospital at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where she cared for the servicemen wounded in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. After WWII, Julia attended Oklahoma Baptist University and services as a counselor in the women's dormitory. After graduation, she attended Oklahoma University, completing their program in social work. Julia entered Civil Service and received numerous awards retiring as Recreational Director at Edwards Air Force Base in California where she was responsible for preparing the base for each space shuttle's return. Thousands of people would flood the base to watch those events. Services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church, 417 Palomas Dr, SE, with Rev. Winfred Walker officiating. Womack -- Leldon T. (L. T.) Womack, 68, a resident of Litchfield Park, AZ, died Friday, September 18, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Womack of Litchfield Park, AZ; son, Tom Womack and wife, Betsy of Albuquerque, daughter, Carol Womack of Lincoln, NE; sister, Jenell Bills of Hubbard, TX; brothers, Emmett Womack of Redding, CA and Ralph E. Womack of Capitan, NM; and grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie Butters of Albuquerque. Mr. Womack was born in Merkel, TX and was a graduate of the University of New Mexico. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. He was also a member of the Lincoln Rotary Club #14 and Country Club of Lincoln. Mr. Womack retired after 31 years of service from the accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick. He was active in community and professional organizations and served in leadership roles in many of those organizations. Services will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd Chapel, 1111 University Blvd, NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Worstell -- Hairston G. Graveside services 2:00 P.M., Tuesday September 22, 1998 at the Sandia Memorial Gardens in Albuquerque for Hairston G. Worstell, 78, who died September 18th at Sunset Villa. His cousin, Rev. Fred McDonald will officiate. Mr. Worstell was born January 5, 1920 in West Plains, Missouri, to George Wilbur Worstell, Jr. and Elnora Virginia Hairston Worstell. On April 15, 1944, he and Betty Jane Holmes were married Buffalo, New York. His parents and his wife preceded him in death, as did his only child, Mark Holmes Worstell and his brother, William R. Worstell. Mr. Worstell was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and was a World War II veteran. He was employed as a Mechanical Engineer by the University of California at Los Alamos, New Mexico, for many years before he retired. Before moving to Roswell six weeks ago. Mr. Worstell had resided in Belen, New Mexico. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mrs. William R. Worstell of Roswell and her daughters Patricia Ann Chambers of Richmond, California, and Deborah Lynn Morgan of Portland, Oregon; nieces of his wife, Patricia Weber of Roseville, Minnesota, and Judith Miller of Lakeland, Minnesota; cousins and their wives, W.C. Hairston, Jr. and Phyllis of Union City, Tennessee. and Rev. Fred McDonald and Nancy of Roswell; cousin and her husband, Nan Hairston Roberson and Don of San Antonio, Texas; and Mildred Hairston of Union City, Tennessee, the widow of his cousin Bobby Hairston.
