Anderson -- Mr. Joe S. Anderson died on Tuesday at the age of 58. He was a member of the Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Anderson; sister, Elsie Anderson; and brother, Benny Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Willie Anderson; one son, Steven Clifford Anderson; four daughters, Debra Schmille, Leslie Saiz, Sharon Anderson, Michelle Anderson; four step-daughters, Melissa Marie Kelley, Heidi Michelle McNeil, Heather Leann Burton and Elizabeth Scoggins; mother, Helen Anderson; two brothers, Jim Anderson and Danny Anderson; six sisters, Terry Anderson, Patricia Martinez, Joann Baca, Mary Helen Anderson, Isabel Anderson and Alvita Sevier; one Godson, Shane Matthew Romero; and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be held on Saturday at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Friday, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Salazar and Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.

Bennett -- Ruth P. Bennett, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, with her family around her at home. She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. George Bennett, USAF Ret., of Albuquerque; daughter, Deborah Bennett of Espanola; son, George Bennett Jr. and wife, Shauna of Heber City, UT; grandson, Ian Bennett; and granddaughters, Anna and Felicia Bennett, all of Heber City, UT; and brother, George Poimboeuf and wife, Lou of West Monroe, LA. Mrs. Bennett was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held Friday, 12:00 noon, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE, with Rev. Charles E. Price officiating. Private interment of cremains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Chavez -- Roger"Bush" Chavez, 40, a resident of Bernalillo, NM, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 1998. Roger is survived by his mother, Carmen Chavez; brothers, Leonard Chavez and wife, Mildred, Mel Chavez, Ralph Chavez and wife, Annette, John Chavez and wife, Rosemary, and James Baca; sisters, Maria Moreno and husband, Larry, Barbara Saavedra and husband, Edwin, Cecelia Padilla and husband, Alex. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Elena, Alysha, Orlando, Evette, Natasha, Robert, Leandra, Melissa, Mark, Janell, Susan, Feliciana, Jose, Victoria, Matthew, Amber, Rachel, Kandyce, Eric and Erica; grandniece, Symone. Visitation will be today, 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, NM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 1998, also at the church. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery. Espinosa -- Lloyd Espinosa, 73, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away July 9, 1998. He is survived by his two daughters, Addie Haberkorn and husband, Vincent of Leadville, CO, Francene Winterboer and husband, Randy of Lakewood, CO; son, Glenn Espinosa and wife, Pauline of Albuquerque; sisters, Marie Nelson of Walsenburg, CO, Adelene DeFoe of Pueblo, CO, Stella Valdez of Oviedo, FL; brothers, Mike Martinez of Pueblo, CO, Ted Espinosa of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; former spouse, Dianne Leal and daughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Al Michael Espinosa; and brother, Eugene Espinosa. Fifield -- Jane Dovie Fifield, 73, passed away July 2, 1998 at her home. She is survived by her niece, Susan Miller; great-niece, Megan; and great-nephew, Troy. Dovie retired in 1979 from the Dept. of the Air Force, Military Air Command, Kirtland AFB. She was a life member of the Soroptimist International since March of 1952 of El Centro, CA and became active in Albuquerque since June, 1963. She was also active in NARFE. Her active collection of special dolls was shared with the Sandia Doll Club. Her many friends will remember her kindness, generosity, and her community commitment. There will be no services. The family requests that those who wish to remember Dovie to make donations to a charity of their choice.

Giessen -- Hazel Giessen, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Giessen of the family home; daughters, Melba Anita Tugwell and husband, Jack of Albuquerque and Ima Mozelle Vermillion of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Vickie Sue McCullough and husband, Tom, Michael Vermillion and wife, Ruth, Patricia Hackney and husband, Ron, Gayle Ruszanuk and husband, Rick, Connie Feery, Jack Tugwell, and Dennis Tugwell; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Howard Buchanan and wife, Lahoma of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jerome Kelver Conoley, who passed away in 1976 and her infant daughter, Norma Ruth. She was a member of Del Norte Baptist Church. Mrs. Giessen was very involved in Palo Duro Senior Center and Bear Canyon Senior Center. She enjoyed participating in singing groups at both places. Hazel was a past member of the group Sweet Adelines. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Pastor Alan Hawkins officiating. Hahn -- Kathleen A. Hahn, 69, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for 26 years died Sunday, July 5, 1998 at home with her family by her side. She fought so hard but lost her courageous battle against cancer. Kathleen is survived by two sons, Dennis Hahn and special friend, Darla Plamondon of Cripple Creek, CO and Jerry Hahn and wife, Cindy of Tucson, AZ; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Geske Baker of Conchas Dam, NM and Lora Y. Lee of Davenport, IA. Kathleen was preceded in death by her son Michael, her mother Grace, her father Ralph and her brother Dean. She was born in Chadron, NE on March 22, 1929 and lived in Davenport, IA for 30 years before moving to Albuquerque in September of 1972. She worked in the printing business since 1962 and was active in the Sunshine Girls of Terrace Park for 12 years. There will be a memorial service at the Terrace Park Mobile Home Recreation Hall, 9000 Zuni SE on Wednesday, July 8, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. Kathleen requested in lieu of flowers you make a gift to someone you know who is needy. Israel -- Esther H. Israel (nee Setzke), 90, a resident of Belen since 1974 and formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away on July 6, 1998. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque. She was a member of AARP, serving as membership chairman for many years. She was also a member of the Alkalai Anns Garden Club. Esther loved gardening and designing, and baking custom event cakes. She was a graduate of the Wilton Cake Decorating Institute. Esther won many ribbons at the County Fair for her flowers and baking. In 1997 she was honored as"Citizen for a Day" because of her efforts on behalf of AARP. She was also a volunteer at the Belen Hospital during the late 1970's and early 1980's. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1978. Esther is survived by her daughters, Donna G. Schodrow and her husband, Otto A. Schodrow of Evergreen Park, IL and Beverly G. Israel of Belen. Also surviving are her grandsons, Michael J. Schodrow and his wife, Debbie of Romeoville, IL and Paul T. Schodrow and his wife, Amy of Broomfield, CO. Visitation took place on Tuesday evening at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Wednesday morning, also at Romero Funeral Home, with Dr. Edward Hackmann officiating. Interment took place Wednesday afternoon in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Dr. Johnson practiced medicine in Albuquerque until his retirement in 1989. He practiced with Adult Health Care Specialists. Kelly -- Brooks B. Kelly, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998. He is survived by his brother, Jarrett Kelly of Charleston, WV; and sister, Genevieve Daugherty Brooks of Elk View, WV and Zelda Litton of Charleston, WV; and brother-in-law, Wyett McGinnis and wife, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Kelly in December 1992. He was a residence of Placitas for about 30 years. Mr. Kelly was a member of Las Placitas Presbyterian Church. Kinney -- Alanson"Al" Ira Kinney, 80, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 21 years, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 1998. Al was born August 10, 1917, the son of Ira N. and Lola Mathias Kinney in Pena, Illinois. Al and the former Betty Packard were married on June 3, 1944 in Syracuse, New York. Al and Betty came to New Mexico from Germany. Al had attended Grove City College in Grove City, PA. He was a Thirty Second Degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge of New York, member of the Rio Rancho Rotary Club, had served on the Executive Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, was very active in the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, had been elected to the Balloon"Hall of Fame". Al was the owner/operator of Sandy's Sundown and Sandy's Hallmark shops. Al is survived by his wife, Betty of Albuquerque; daughter, Sandy Kinney and husband, Mike Sugg of Dallas,TX. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 1998, 2:00 p.m., at the Paradise Hills Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Hills Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, with the Rev. Charles Bader officiating. Mcdonald -- Ralph L. McDonald ("Mac"), 81, was born in Bovina, Texas, February 1, 1917. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ola McDonald; his sister, Mary; and his brothers, Raymond and James. Mac is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita C. McDonald of Albuquerque; his brother, William of Clovis, and his brother, Jack of Albuquerque; his son, Monte McDonald and his wife, Lisa, granddaughters, Leigh Anne and Shaunda, and grandson, Mark of Houston, TX; his grandson, Sean and his wife, Peggy of Manama, WI, grandson, Timothy and his wife, Laurie, and great-granddaughter, Makenna of Walnut Creek, CA; grandson, James and his wife, Sharene, and great-grandson, Zachary of Orinda, CA; grandson, James Owens and his wife, Jennifer of Houston, TX; and his granddaughter, Deborah Owens of Panama City, FL. He served his country with distinction in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, he worked for the United States Postal Service and retired in 1965. Mac was an avid golfer and participated in many local senior events. He particularly loved spending time with his wife, son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at his summer home at Vallecito Lake, Colorado. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 1998 in the Fitzgerald and Sons Mortuary, located at 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE. Relatives and friends may visit Fitzgerald and Sons Mortuary, Friday, July 10, 1998, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 11, 1998. Platter -- Paul P. Platter, 88, went home to our Lord, Thursday, July 9, 1998 in Socorro, NM. He was born January 24, 1910 to Edgar and Cora Platter in Raychester, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Schmaltz Platter. He is survived by his son, Fred Lackey and wife, Marcia of Grants, NM; daughters, Charlotte Monette and husband, Chuck of Socorro, NM and Pauline Barker of Grants, NM; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and many good friends which he has had over his lifetime. He will be dearly missed by all whose life he touched. Paul was a resident of Milan since 1956. Paul made his living as a local butcher. He moved to Socorro, NM after the death of his wife. He had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Socorro, NM for the last eight months. Rosary will be recited Friday, July 10, 7:00 p.m., at Grants Mortuary Chapel in Grants, NM. Reubold -- Arthur Reubold, born October 3, 1903, died in Albuquerque on July 7, 1998. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois at Champaign. He married Jeanne Sawyer on May 10, 1945. Art and Jeanne moved to Menasha, WI after their daughter, Catherine was born. Art worked for Gilbert Paper Company until his retirement. He then started his second career as a volunteer working with children as a school crossing guard and then a playground supervisor in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Albuquerque. His volunteer work lasted 30 years until he was age 93. Because of his volunteer work he was nominated several times for the Jefferson Award. He was also active in senior bowling leagues in Albuquerque until age 93. He was a life member of BPOE 461. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanne; and his daughter, Catherine, both of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; brother; and daughter, Ellen. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2:00 p.m., at the clubhouse of North Hills Mobile Home Park, 7600 Louisiana NE. Sandoval -- Emma E. Sandoval, born January 16, 1909, Cuba, NM, died July 2, 1998, Albuquerque. She is survived by her husband, Abel P. Sandoval; a daughter, Hazel Weitkamp and her husband, Dr. Raymond Weitkamp; daughter, Velma Juergens and husband, Chuck Juergens; son, Dr. Phillip Martinez and fiancee, Erin Morrisey; son, Lee Martinez and wife, Sue Martinez. She is also survived by former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Martinez; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Carmelita Montano and Ida Valdez; and brothers, Max and Alex Eichwald. She worked for many years alongside her first husband, Rev. Uvaldo J. Martinez in the field of Presbyterian missions. Following Rev. Martinez's death she had a long and happy marriage to Abel P. Sandoval who survives her. A memorial celebration of her life will take place Saturday, July 11, 10:30 a.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE, Rev. Anthony Chavez presiding. Smith -- SEAN THOMAS SMITH, 16, ELDORADO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, and a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, was taken on Tuesday, June 7, 1998. He is survived by his parents, Denise Dapolito and Timothy Smith; sister, Julianna Whipple; grandparents, Fred and Betty Whipple, and Nadine Scovil, all of Albuquerque; best friend and cousin, Richard Carlson of Heber, AZ; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his good friend, Joseph Romero of Albuquerque. Sean was entering his sophomore year at Eldorado High School and belonged to the YMCA. He cared nothing more than shooting hoops with his uncle. He had a passion for mountain biking and loved football and basketball. Sean loved animals and had a special way with them. His family called him Dr. Doolittle. His fondest wish was to be a veterinarian. He was a very genuine person who deeply cared for people who had less than him. He had the heart of a lion and a very gentle spirit. Sean knew Jesus and loved God with all of his heart. Private disposition will take place. The family wishes that those who desire, make contributions of love and time towards educating children of the hazards of biking in the city and to the redesign of the intersection of Tomasita and Lomas Blvd. NE. Whitacre -- Bernice M. Whitacre, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed away on Monday, July 6, 1998. Bernice was the daughter of Joseph H. and Mabel Edick Stoker, she was born in Scipio, New York. She was a volunteer with the American Lung Assoc. for 18 years, a volunteer for the Bear Canyon Senior Center, previous member of the Duke City Race Walkers, Senior Olympic Champion swimmer since 1989, won a Gold Medal in 1995. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Richard T. Forrester; parents, Joseph and Mabel Stoker; brothers, Ernest and Edward Stoker; and sisters, Joan Stoker and Marion Gordon. Bernice is survived by her children, Richard J. Smith and wife, Sharon of Danville, CA, Brian V. Smith of Englewood, CO, Patricia M. Lupear and husband, Danny of Concord, CA, Maureen G. Forrester and husband, Terry of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Michael Kevin Smith and wife, Nora, Bridget Wellerstein and husband, David, Dawne Bernice Forrester, Terrence Erik Forrester (Erik); great-grandchildren, Walker Forrester, Christopher Medrano, Rosalind Smith, Samuel Smith, Adriana Marie Smith; sisters, Anita Bergerstock, Alice Minde, Mary Matanle, Isabelle Mason, and Nancy Goodnough. The service for Bernice will be held Saturday, July 11, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, Albuquerque, with Rev. John Schwarting officiating. Interment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association of New Mexico or the Senior Olympics of New Mexico have been suggested.
