GILLESPIE -- Tedd P. Gillespie, a resident of New Mexico since his birth in Springer on November 19, 1929, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, January 12, 2004. Preceded in death by his wife, Laurita, he leaves his children Amy and Pete Gillespie and his grand sons Brian Gillespie and Rex Hoeltke. His family members Florence Gillespie and Margy Wienbar of Albuquerque and Alice Hoeltke of Stanley, and Sally Walker and family of Alamogordo, will remember him as a quiet, creative and talented craftsman. He retired in 1994 after being a lifelong member of Bricklayers Local #2. He loved the outdoors and a daily crossword puzzle. Cremation and ennichement has occurred. DOUGHARTY -- Bernard W. Dougharty February 2, 1925-January 11, 2004 The Reverend Bernard Wilmot Dougharty was born in Haskell, Texas on February 2, 1925 and died in Las Cruces, New Mexico on January 11, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret of the family home in Alamogordo, New Mexico; his four children, Philip Dougharty of Buffalo, New York, Bonnie Dougharty of Enid, Oklahoma, Dan Dougharty of Espanola, New Mexico, and Houston Dougharty of Tacoma, Washington; and members of their families, Kristina Dougharty, Adrian Goodwin, Chris Dougharty, Kayla McDuffie, Kimberly Dougharty, Allie Dougharty, and Fen Dougharty; and one nephew, Steve Dougharty of Albuquerque. He also leaves behind many other dear and faithful friends and family members. A graduate of Stamford (Texas) High School, Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, Reverend Dougharty was a Southern Baptist minister for 53 years, serving New Mexico churches in Rosedale, Springer, Anthony, and Santa Fe. He also was Director of Missions in the Northeastern and Mountain Valley Baptist Associations. He and his wife were honored to participate in Partnership Missions in Panama and Great Britain, as well as serving as interim missionaries in France and Germany. A combat veteran of World War II, he received two Purple Hearts, an Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Bronze Star for his service in the infantry. He served as a chaplain in the New Mexico National Guard for 22 years, retiring a Colonel and the State Staff Chaplain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alamogordo with the Reverend Charles Hanks of Alamogordo, the Reverend Bill Ware of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and the Reverend Francis Wilson of Albuquerque officiating. Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo. Pallbearers will be Philip Dougharty, Dan Dougharty, Houston Dougharty, Steve Dougharty, David Wyman, and Eric Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult V Men's Sunday School Class and the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Alamogordo. Should friends desire, Reverend Dougharty requested that memorial gifts be sent to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, P.O. BERNAL -- Antonio D. (Tony) Bernal, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away on January 2, 2004. Tony was born in Tinaja, New Mexico, on January 24, 1924, where he lived until he enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. After leaving the Navy Tony worked for Wylie Brothers Corporation, in Albuquerque. He retired in 1989. During much of this time he and his wife, Nora also ran the Cattleman's Livestock Cafe in Belen, New Mexico. Tony is survived by his wife of 45 years Nora S. Bernal of Belen, New Mexico; five step children, Charlene Bryant of Los Lunas, Cathy and her husband, Lanny Cornell of El Cajon, CA., Sue Bock of Los Lunas, Pat and her husband Bob Richards of El Cajon, CA., Jerry Medley and his wife Susan of San Clemente, CA; three sisters, Elena Bernal and Terecina Jean of Albuquerque, Viola Castillo of Palo Blanco, NM; two brothers, Ignacio Bernal and his wife Lala of Springer, NM, Juan Bernal and his wife Louise of Sherman, TX , thirteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. Tony was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, New Mexico Chapter, 8100 Mountain Rd. NE, Suite 102, Albuquerque, NM 87110. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel from 2:30 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2004. Cumiford -- Robert B. Cumiford, age 92, born July 28, 1911 in Mountainair, New Mexico went to be with his Lord August 27, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters, and one son, Robert Paul. He will be greatly missed by all especially his granddaughter Katrina Thrash and grandson Eric Hornsby. Lloyd -- John H. Lloyd, 76, died Friday, August 15, 2003. He was reunited with his first wife, Betty Lou after she waited three years for him. He is survived by his wife, Zelda Wiggins; five daughters, Mary Ethel Plotner and husband, Will of Farmington, NM; Jeanne Reutner and husband, Charles of Avon, IL; Violet Pavelski of Rio Rancho, NM; Donna Martinez and husband, John of Rociada, NM; Terri Lloyd and husband, Mac Hann of Albuquerque, NM; two sons, John Richard and life partner, Andrew of Vallejos, CA; James Lloyd and wife, Bernadette of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Will and wife, Jada, Becky and husband, Frank, Alicia, Melissa, Diego, Brian, Adrian, Cathy, Victoria, Maria, Melecio, Aedon, and Elaena; six great-grandchildren; niece, Maggie Anaya; and nephew, Tommie Lloyd. John worked for the phone company, Mountain Bell for 35 years, retired from the New Mexico National Guard after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star of Santa Fe and Springer, NM. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1139 and the M.O.W.W. Services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 320 Maxwell Ave., in Springer, NM. Interment will be in Springer, NM. Thomason -- Celia"Jo" Thomason, 67, an Albuquerque resident of 45 years, passed away July 25, 2003. She struggled to recover after miraculously surviving an arterial hemorrhage in May. She is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Walker Failor. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tom W. Thomason, mother Mary Springer Dotts of Honolulu, Hawaii, sister Jane Sage of Denver, Colorado, nieces Amy Vozar and Lisa Powell of Dallas, Texas. She will be deeply missed by her many close friends and co-workers. Jo was a tireless advocate for exceptional children and people with disabilities. With a Doctorate in Education and a Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico and Bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota, Jo dedicated 45 years to teaching special education in New Mexico classrooms and universities world-wide. She was a Special Education Administrator for the Albuquerque Public Schools from 1969 to 1986. She was the Executive Director of the International Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE), and a world leader for the advocacy and education of special needs children. She was the leader of the CASE delegation to the then Soviet Union in 1991 and the Chairperson for the 1987-88 International Conference on Special Education held in the People's Republic of China. This was the first open, multi-national conference for special education held in the world with speakers from over 20 countries. She was the President of the Council for Exceptional Children 1981-1982. She consulted with public school systems, state departments of education, universities throughout the United States, the U.S. Department of Education, the Malagasy Republic, the Mental Health Project, NYC and the White House Conference on Handicapped (1978). She was adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico (1980-1997) and visiting faculty member at the University of British Columbia (1987) and presented at over 200 conferences, seminars and institutes in the United States, Canada, England, Wales, the People's Republic of China and the USSR. Jo's Honors include CASE Outstanding Contributor Award (2002- now named the Jo Thomason Award), CEC Outstanding Contributor (1993), NM CEC Award for Outstanding Leadership (named Jo Thomason Award since 1986), Washington State University Outstanding Service Award, New Mexico School Administrators Outstanding Leadership Award. The Special Education community will miss Dr. Jo Thomason's commitment and expertise. Jo was Chairperson of the Foster Grandparents Advisory Board and served on the Albuquerque YWCA Board. Proud to be a liberal democrat, Jo was also an avid traveler, gardener, cross-word puzzler, reader, cook and loved to spend time with her dogs and cats. She will be missed by all her friends and family. Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. , Friday, August 1 at Sunrise Chapel located at 7601 Wyoming, NE. Baca -- Patricio Baca, 92, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, April 24, 2003. Pat retired from the Albuquerque Police Department as a sergeant with the traffic division in 1972. He then served as Bernalillo County Under sheriff and as a New Mexico State Fair policeman for a few years. Patricio was married to Josephine Sanchez on July 29, 1933. Josephine died on January 8, 2003. They are survived by son, Deacon Rudy Baca and his wife, Juanita; daughter, Patricia Hendren and husband, Philip; the Baca grandchildren, Rudolph Patrick and wife, Mildred, Rodolfo Antonio and wife, Arlene, Carlos Ambrosio and wife, Charlene, Joaquin Francisco and wife, Mindy, Javier Antonio and wife, Beth and Maria Vahtel; the Hendren grandchildren are, Philip Paul, Chris Alan and wife, Stephanie, and Monica Rawson. Pat and Jo were blessed with 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. There are 13 nephews and nieces surviving Pat and Jo. Pat was known for his service to the Albuquerque Police Dept; as an unofficial public relations man when he watched for the safety of schoolchildren at Buena Vista Elementary (now part of TVI) and as a parking enforcement officer where he rode a three-wheeled motorcycle. Sgt. Baca also worked as supervisor of traffic division officers. Pat worked for Springer Transfer Co. as a heavy equipment operator prior to joining A.P.D. Pat and Jo served the Martineztown neighborhood by their active involvement in civic affairs as well as their participation in San Ignacio Catholic Church activities where they assisted as mayordomos in the sixties. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2003 at St. Therese Little Flower Church 300 Mildred Ave NW. Viewing and Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2003 at St. Therese Little Flower Church with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. Jim Suntum, Celebrant. A committal service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel.
