DOUGHARTY -- Bernard W. Dougharty February 2, 1925-January 11, 2004 The Reverend Bernard Wilmot Dougharty was born in Haskell, Texas on February 2, 1925 and died in Las Cruces, New Mexico on January 11, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret of the family home in Alamogordo, New Mexico; his four children, Philip Dougharty of Buffalo, New York, Bonnie Dougharty of Enid, Oklahoma, Dan Dougharty of Espanola, New Mexico, and Houston Dougharty of Tacoma, Washington; and members of their families, Kristina Dougharty, Adrian Goodwin, Chris Dougharty, Kayla McDuffie, Kimberly Dougharty, Allie Dougharty, and Fen Dougharty; and one nephew, Steve Dougharty of Albuquerque. He also leaves behind many other dear and faithful friends and family members. A graduate of Stamford (Texas) High School, Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, Reverend Dougharty was a Southern Baptist minister for 53 years, serving New Mexico churches in Rosedale, Springer, Anthony, and Santa Fe. He also was Director of Missions in the Northeastern and Mountain Valley Baptist Associations. He and his wife were honored to participate in Partnership Missions in Panama and Great Britain, as well as serving as interim missionaries in France and Germany. A combat veteran of World War II, he received two Purple Hearts, an Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Bronze Star for his service in the infantry. He served as a chaplain in the New Mexico National Guard for 22 years, retiring a Colonel and the State Staff Chaplain. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 15, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alamogordo with the Reverend Charles Hanks of Alamogordo, the Reverend Bill Ware of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and the Reverend Francis Wilson of Albuquerque officiating. Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo. Pallbearers will be Philip Dougharty, Dan Dougharty, Houston Dougharty, Steve Dougharty, David Wyman, and Eric Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult V Men's Sunday School Class and the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Alamogordo. Should friends desire, Reverend Dougharty requested that memorial gifts be sent to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales, New Mexico 88130; or to the Boys and Girls Ranch, P.O. Box 5000, Boys Ranch, New Mexico 87002; or to The Gideons. Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home, Alamogordo.
