Benson -- John A. Benson, 56, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m.,Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 West 93rd Street, Overland Park, KS. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 1, 2003, at the Church; a Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. In John's memory, contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio, 44720. Contributions can also be made by calling 1-800-diabetes or by visiting www.diabetes.org. John was born December 19, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA, to John Andrew and Bernadette Claire Benson. At 9 years old, John moved from Philadelphia to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After graduating from high school in Albuquerque, John joined the United States Army. John became a veteran of the Army, serving in military intelligence. In 1972, he received his bachelor's degree in sociology from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. He later received a master's degree in public administration from Webster University. He began working for the United States government in the Washington, D.C. area in 1972 as a contract reality specialist. John eventually made Overland Park, KS, his home and continued to work for the United States government in the General Services Administration (GSA). John enriched the lives of everyone who knew him and wanted nothing more than to make the people around him happy. John was a selfless man whose number one priority in life was providing for and loving his family. John was hardworking, generous, devoted, patient, fun-loving, kind, and an avid storyteller. John made friends everywhere he went, telling silly jokes and funny stories. With his white beard and big smile, it was easy to mistake John for Santa Clause himself. He was also a devoted Catholic, serving as both a eucharistic minister and lector at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS. John was preceded in death by his father, Jack Benson. Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Joann Benson, and his three daughters, Lori Delorit and husband Aaron of the Kansas City area, Lisa Determan and husband Scott of Phoenix, AZ, and Amy Benson of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by his mother, Bernadette Benson of Overland Park, KS, his brother, Paul Benson and wife Sue and daughter Sarah, his mother-in-law, Luella Goodnow of Sioux City, IA, his sister-in-law, Kathy Armbright of Sioux City, IA, and his niece, Meghan Armbright of North Sioux City, SD. Cumiford -- Robert B. Cumiford, age 92, born July 28, 1911 in Mountainair, New Mexico went to be with his Lord August 27, 2003. He leaves behind his wife, Leola Cumiford; daughter, Shelia Hornsby and husband, Darrel of Las Cruces, New Mexico; son, Charles Orville Cumiford of Guymon, Oklahoma; sister, Ruth West of Albuquerque New Mexico; brothers, Fred Cumiford of Springer, New Mexico, Harold Cumiford of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters, and one son, Robert Paul. He will be greatly missed by all especially his granddaughter Katrina Thrash and grandson Eric Hornsby. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Friday August 29, 2003 at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 30, 2003 in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. George -- Andrew passed away Sunday night, August 24, 2003 at Lovelace Hospice. He was 43 years old. Andrew was a beautifully quiet soul who was loved by everyone who met him. He was introspective and gentile, fair and caring, compassionate and loving. Andrew's kind presence will be missed so much by his family friends and neighbors. Andrew was the beloved son of Catherine George Monteforte; brother to Marty George; brother-in-law to Dawn Breeze-George; and uncle to Drew George. He is also survived by LeRoy and Christine Freeman, Adam Freeman and Lisa Salazar of Florida. Many thanks to Lovelace Hospice for their care and compassion. WE LOVE YOU UNCLE!!!

Gillespie -- Robert S."Bob" Gillespie, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at his home in Albuquerque, NM, where he was a resident for 54 years. Bob was born in LeMars, IA and after graduating from the public school system, attended Western Union College in LeMars. He graduated from the University of Illinois and later earned an advanced degree from the University of Iowa. He served in the US National Guard, followed by more than three years in the US Army. He was assigned to a Submarine Command serving overseas in the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. He was honorably discharged from the Army with an American Defense Service Medal and an EAME Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal. Bob and his wife, Virginia moved to Albuquerque in 1949 when he became a member of the faculty in the Department of Journalism at the University of New Mexico. After several years with the University, Bob took a position with Sandia Laboratories as a Technical Writer. Following a fulfilling career, he retired from Sandia in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Fleck Gillespie of LeMars, IA and Dallas, TX. Other members of Robert's family to precede him in death were Dr. James B. Gillespie of Champaign, IL; and sisters, Katherine Troxler of California and Marion Templeman of New Mexico. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia C."Ginger" Gillespie and son-in-law, William"Biff" Thompson of Albuquerque; and son, Charles S. Gillespie and his wife, Frances of Stagecoach, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Nathan and Kaleena Thompson of Albuquerque and Katherine and Rachel Gillespie of Stagecoach; nieces and nephews, Connie Coates, Kathy Watkins, John and Joan Templeman, and Bill and Barbara Templeman of Santa Fe, Ginger Troxler of California, James and Emily Gillespie of Florida, and Emily Henry and Robin Troxler of Massachusetts. Also surviving are many great-nieces and nephews and many loving friends in Albuquerque, most especially Don and Dora Sylvester, Bob Vales, and Rev. Harold Trott. Graveside Services will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, August 29, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's On The Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in memory of Bob Gillespie to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St, New York, NY 10032. Bob was a very special man and was deeply loved and will be missed very much by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He left on the wings of an Angel, placed gently in the hands of God. Hall -- Donna Marie Hall died Wednesday, August 27, 2003 in Albuquerque at the age of 45. Donna was a caring person who dedicated herself to helping others. She was a loving caregiver to disabled children and the elderly. Donna is survived by her mother, Ramona Hall of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughters, Katy Steele and Rhiana Hall, of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Marshall and husband, John of Colorado Springs, CO, and Lillian Price and Gary of Jones, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services for Donna will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW, 247-4124.

Lopez -- Consuelo M. Lopez, age 83, passed away August 28, 2003. She was Blessed by God and is now in His Loving Care. Consuelo was born in Santa Fe, NM and a resident of Albuquerque since 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband, Celso J. Lopez and her loving companion, Phillip Delgado. Consuelo is survived by her sister, Conchita Lopez; son, Carlos Lopez and wife, Laura, of Austin, TX; son, Chris Lopez; daughter, Carmela Einspahr and husband, Gary all of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews--all of which were very dear to her heart. O'toole -- Blanche West O'Toole, 86, a resident of Albuquerque, N.M. since 1948, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2003. Mrs. O'Toole was the beloved wife for 51 years of Vincent O'Toole who preceded her in death. She is survived by two children, Vicki Gosda of Golden, CO; and Marty O'Toole of Albuquerque, NM; two grandchildren, Christina Almond and Andrew Dodds. Mrs. O'Toole was born in Clarksville, GA and moved with her parents and three sisters to Hydro, OK. She married Vincent O'Toole and resided in Weatherford, OK until moving to Albuquerque in 1948. Mrs. O'Toole was a homemaker, devoted wife and mother. From 1965 to 1976 she worked in sales for ladies read to wear. She will be remembered by those who loved her for her sense of humor and devotion to family. Special recognition and gratitude is expressed to the staff of the Heart Hospital who provided dedicated and compassionate care to Mrs. O'Toole in the last years of her life, they include B.J., Jennifer, Jessica, Debbie, Norma, Rocky and Donna. Vicki and Marty express special appreciation and love to her devoted friends; Dolores Colby and Meredith Davis. Russell -- Henry Thomas Russell, Jr., 62, a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2003. The most treasurable memory about Henry was he was a fun-loving husband, father, brother, and most of all grandfather ("Papa"). Papa always made sure he had a front row seat at every special occasion. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Laurene; his three sons, Tom, Pete, and Kurt; daughters-in-law, Kendra, Jessica, and Melisa; and the three angels of his life, Amber, Brittany, and Madison. Speer -- Dennis Speer, 50, passed away on August 23, 2003 in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he has resided for the past ten years. Dennis was raised in Corrales, NM, and was a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. He is survived by his son, Thomas; and daughter, Denise, who reside in Hobe Sound, Florida with their mother, Dee Dee Myers. In Albuquerque, he is survived by his mother, Mandy Nichols; stepfather, John Nichols; and sister, Glenna Hickman. His brother, Jack Speer of Houston, Texas; and sister, Dena Zwingle of Burlingame, California, also survive him. Dennis is also survived by his stepsister and stepbrother, Kay Griffin and Kevin Nichols of Albuquerque; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, aunts, and cousins. His father, Thomas E. Speer, preceded him in death in 1986. His cremains will be brought to Albuquerque where a private memorial Service for his family is to be held at a later date.
